A four-minute video message introducing Adam Pierce, the new drummer for the Oakland, California extreme metal band ALL SHALL PERISH, can be viewed below:
ALL SHALL PERISH recently parted ways with original drummer Matt Kuykendall. The group stated at the time, “It’s always tough to part ways with a longtime member and friend, but it was absolutely necessary in order to maintain forward progress.”
The band’s most recent lead guitarist, Jason Richardson, left ALL SHALL PERISH and has since been temporarily replaced by Francesco Artusato from Treviso, Italy.
ALL SHALL PERISH will support the legendary DANZIG on 4 shows of his upcoming mini-tour this June.
“Our jaws dropped when DANZIG personally requested ALL SHALL PERISH to join him on tour,” stated the band recently. “It’s a true honor to open for such a musical legend. We hope to get the crowd excited and pumped up for him!”
Tasmania’s technical death metallers PSYCROPTIC have announced a series of North American headlining dates in the middle of and following their tour with NILE. Confirmed tour dates for the „Those Whom The Gods Detest Tour II“ and their headlining shows are as follows…
Santa Cruz doom ‘n rollers DUSTED ANGEL have just completed their debut full-length, and are putting the final touches on this beast, planning for it to be set loose this late this summer.
The burly, self-titled, 7-track melee was put to tape in San Francisco by sludgemonger Billy Anderson (High on Fire, Neurosis, Sleep) in April, mastered at TrakWorx Studios, and will see release mid-late summer on Mankind Records — a division of Revelation Records. A solid year of live shows along the west coast have the members of DUSTED ANGEL conditioned to jam tighter than ever, building upon the rocking hardcore-meets-stoner/doom dynamics fans of the band already love, and taking these songs to massive new levels of crushing groove. The official release date, as well as the album’s track listing and cover art, will all be announced in the coming weeks.
Several strings of California gigs, including record release shows and more, are being scheduled for the coming months building towards the album’s release, and the band will also relocate to the east coast for a battery of shows sometime later this year.
DUSTED ANGEL contains members of crucial skatecore legends Bl’ast, metal experimentalists Spaceboy, sonic mindfuckers Gargantula and more. All longtime friends from time spent in previous bands, or just from growing up in the Santa Cruz skate/surf/slam scene together for the past 20 years, brought the band together in 2008. They’ve done nothing but rock ever since…
Stay tuned for more updates on the album, the shows, the chaos, of DUSTED ANGEL.

Los Angeles, CA (June 18, 2010) – It’s not uncommon for a musician to record more work than they release. In Vai’s case, the Grammy® award-winning guitarist has a digital ocean of snippets in various degrees of completion. Some are leftovers from assorted sessions, projects that were never completed, soundcheck jams, or songs that were specific to a particular venture. “There are enough lonely, unreleased notes in my world to fill an infinity shelf,” says Vai. In between composing new scores for his upcoming performance with the North Netherlands Symphony Orchestra, Vai has transformed these snippets into full, lush songs and these rarities are being released as a series of single digital downloads called VaiTunes.
Each release comes with a PDF booklet containing detailed notes about the creation of the song, the story behind the recording, and gear involved. The latest release from the series, “The Moon and I” evolved from a soundcheck jam in Athens, Greece in the spring of 2000. The PDF liner notes allow the listener to follow Vai as he birthed the chord changes in Greece and subsequently watered and fertilized the song ten years later half way around the world in his Encino studio. Equally fascinating is the story of the guitar used to finish “The Moon and I.” Under unique circumstances, Vai recently purchased an original Desert Yellow Ibanez JEM 777DY guitar, a guitar he designed in 1987, from a local pawnshop and named the guitar “Moon.”
Vai plans to offer one track every month or so, each one representing a unique moment in his personal musical history. The releases can be purchased via iTunes and other digital music providers worldwide through www.vai.com/vaitunes.
SCORPIONS guitar legend Rudolf Schenker spoke with New York Magazine’s Vulture recently about a number of topics. A few excerpts from the chat follow:
Vulture: Why are you stopping now?
Schenker: “Now we can say we’re doing a last tour and giving the people a complete picture of the Scorpions. How often did you go to a party and you had a feeling around one o’clock to leave but then you met one of your friends, who says, ‘Let’s have one drink together,’ and then it’s five o’clock, and the next morning you said, “How stupid I was to not find the right moment to leave.” I think that’s the most important point. We want to make a decision when we finish, not the people.”
Vulture: What do you plan on doing with all your time off?
Schenker: “For me, it’s a way of creating new music, maybe doing an album with my brother (MICHAEL SCHENKER). I wrote a book called Rock Your Life, which is released already in other countries, so I could promote that. There are lots of things to do.”
Vulture: You lived the dream. You were on top of the mountain. What did you see while you were up there?
Schenker: There is not much to see up there because everything down there is very small. You don’t have to stay up there. By seeing where the best place is, then you have an orientation of where you can go.”

Ukrainian black metallers BALFOR are proud to unveil the cover art and track listing of their upcoming Pulverised debut Barbaric Blood. Designed by Martin Saavedra at Uruguay’s Spina Studio (Aborted, Daath, Divinity etc.), the cover is at once dark, brooding and apocalyptic.
Barbaric Blood was recorded at Blacklight Studio, Ukraine in August 2009 and mixed and mastered by Shaddar.
Barbaric Blood Track Listing
1. “From The Ashes (…The Beginning)”
2. “Behold My Hate!”
3. “Shadow Of My Raven Wings”
4. “In A Thunder Of Ancient Glory”
5. “Pure Barbaric”
6. “Light’s Demise”
7. “Kingdom’s Blood”
8. “Voices Of Wilderness”
9. “The Perfect Fire”
Comments BALFOR frontman/guitarist Thorgeir of the cover: “It’s always a long journey making an album. First it has to be written and rehearsed. Then it has to be recorded and mastered, and that’s where most people think it ends. But it doesn’t quite end there. An important factor that everyone forgets about is the artwork, and yet this is often what people notice first. So we are particularly pleased that the artwork for Barbaric Blood has been so well executed by Martin of Spina Studio. He has captured both the concept behind the album, and the band itself.”
BALFOR will release Barbaric Blood later this year via Pulversied. Further info TBA.
Metal Blade Records reissuing two of Behemoth’s classic EP’s as a double disc set!
Masters of blackened death metal, BEHEMOTH, just shot a new production video for the track Alas the Lord Is upon Me off their latest release Evangelion, which was released August 11, 2009. The video was produced and directed by Rafal Szermanowicz and Grupa 13 who also shot BEHEMOTH’s videos for Ov Fire and the Void and At the left hand ov God.
Vocalist and guitarist Nergal comments on the band’s upcoming video for Alas the Lord Is upon Me:
“First of all, we’ve overcome ourselves with this new video clip. Period. It’s something we’ve wanted to do for a very long time. Pretty much no digital intervention, no blue boxes, no fake shit this time, but great filming, good acting, and a fuckin’ awesome storyline. It’s disturbing, crazy, and evil. We’ve had over 70 people working for us on this video so we can easily say it was the biggest production so far. I’m beyond excited! Wait and see.”
Dariusz Szermanowicz of Grupa #13 comments:
“This time we decided to make something different. We’d like to make video in ‘cinematic’ style without so many VFX like in last two videos. We found great location, we had dozen of actors and extras and awesome stylizing. During the 16 hours of hard work we’ve created amazingly killer video!”
In other news; this fall Metal Blade Records will be releasing BEHEMOTH’s early EP’s Conjuration and Slaves Shall Serve as a double disc CD set. More info on this release will be made available in the coming weeks.
Evangelion landed at #56 on Billboard Magazine’s Top 200 Chart with 8,500 units scanned during its first week of release.
Other chart numbers for Evangelion are as follows:
#5 Billboard Hard Music Albums
#6 Billboard Independent Albums
#61 Top 200 Current Albums
#6 Independent Chart
#10 Hard Music Chart
Netherlands: #5 (Indie Charts)

Refusing to be pigeon-holed into any metal sub-genre, VEKTOR employs an array of intricacy, virtuosity and a wholly unique sound which few others can claim. Diabolical space metal? Prog? Jazz fusion? You decide. Welcome to the future; prepare to have your brains melted.
AGOURA HILLS, Calif. – June 18, 2010 – The technical death metal band AEON, who formed in Östersund, Sweden in 1999, are pleased to release their first production video from the band’s new release Path of Fire that just dropped in the states on May 25. The video made for the track Forgiveness Denied was directed, filmed and edited by Standard Film Team Umeå HB and was shot in April in two different locations; band scenes being filmed in Östersund, Sweden and the storyline in Umeå, Sweden. Head over to MetalUnderground.com, who is hosting the exclusive premier, to check out the new video.
Guitarist Daniel Dlimi comments: “There have been a lot of scandals revealed lately, regarding priests (especially catholic ones) who have been abusing children sexually. In my world, there is nothing more innocent than a child, and the ones who abuse a child sexually will never be forgiven. In my opinion, they deserve to die a horrible, painful death. We want to dedicate this song/video to them, the filthy fucking priests who have laid a hand on a child sexually; we hate you, and want you dead.”
“In the race to create ever more brutal death (and black) metal, Aeon has wisely eased off the acceleration pedal whether they meant to or not. By slowing down and bringing more than just riffs and blasts, Aeon and has created an album that is heavy and brutal, but also listenable and enjoyable – Aeon can definitely bring the brutality” MetalUnderground.com
Managing to combine the sounds of ‘80s era first-wave thrash and ‘90s era power metal, Albany, New York’s Addicted to Pain will appeal to a wide variety of heavy metal connoisseurs. Comprised of Leo Curley (vocals, guitar), Bob Horvath (bass), and Gregory Nash (drums), it all started when Bob and Leo met in a band called Eyesore (which included a pre-Shadows Fall Jason Bittner in its ranks), before finding the missing piece to the puzzle with Gregory. But come 2010, the trio has unleashed their first-ever release – a self-titled four-song EP – which is available for purchase via iTunes, as well the group’s official site and myspace page.
And to get that extra added crunch to their sound, the boys enlisted the aid of a gentleman that was there at the dawn of the thrash metal movement, Alex Perialas. “Most amazing/draining recording experience ever,” recalls Curley. “We worked with Alex Perialas (Anthrax, S.O.D., Testament, Pro-Pain, etc.). He really pulled it out of us. It was like working in a piece of metal history – living in the band house and studio where all that happened was humbling. We had a lot to live up to.”
And it turns out that the Perialas/Addicted to Pain union has certainly reaped metallic dividends, as evidenced from all four of the EP’s tracks. But the group has specific favorites in mind. Curley – “For me it’s ‘Trust Me.’ This song was a skeleton when we brought it to Alex. He really had a lot to do with the formation of this sweet little ditty. Many vocal rewrites. All the hard work gives me a real sense of pride on this one.” Nash – “‘Here and Now,’ ‘cause it’s in 7.” Horvath – “‘Trust Me’ is brutal and ‘Abigail’ for its sound and its lyrical content.”
Addicted to Pain is also gearing up to tour the US in the fall. It won’t be long until headbangers coast to coast will get to experience this fearsome threesome head-on. Or as Curley explains the group’s live show, “Blood, sweat, and tears all over the stage!”
