Jon Nödtveidt was best known for being the founding member of the Swedish black/death metal group Dissection, which was strongly associated with Anti-Cosmic Satanism and the Occult. The group disbanded in 2006 after Nödtveidt after his sudden death. Not many people know that Jon was involved in a number of musical projects, such as The Black, Nifelheim, Ophthalamia, Siren’s Yell an Terror (with members of At The Gates). De Infernali was also one of those projects but this time the music ventured into an entirely different dimension of brutality…
De Infernali was an extremely short-lived affair, lasting only two years in total. It started in 1996, when Nödtveidt begun experimenting with dark ambient sounds, writing music for no particular purpose. It wasn’t until his roommate Damien Midvinter was let into this project that De Infernali became a more serious creation (which it was never intended to be in the first place). Nödtveidt wrote the core of the material, while Midvinter contributed the songs “Ave Satan” and “Sign of the Dark”, and helped with some of the other compositions. Soon the duo had enough tracks for a full-length album. They decided to record it with the famous Swedish producer and musician Dan Swäno (known from working with Therion, Opeth, Katatonia, Marduk, Bloodbath and others) who also did the vocals on “Sign of the Dark”. The album was released by Nuclear Blast in 1997. The musical content of “Symphonia De Infernali” left a lot of listeners familiar with Nödtveidt’s previous works (especially Dissection) genuinely puzzled. The songs were completely deprived of any guitar sounds, focusing on dark ambience and haunting electronics. Some of the tracks were purely piano-driven (like the opening “Into The Labyrinths of Desolation”, as well as “Orcus Lursus” and “Revival/Paroxysmal Winds/Forever Gone”), other were more mechanical (“Atomic Age”, “Liberation”), taking a slightly more industrial direction. Although not really associated with metal music in general, the album showcased a unique black metal atmosphere. The lyrics were strongly connected to Nödtveidt’s beliefs, dealing with themes of Satanism, Anti-Christianity and death. De Infernali disbanded shortly after releasing their debut offering.
“Symphonia De Infernali” remains an obscure, yet fascinating release, revealing a side of Nödtveidt that not many of his fans knew before. This exclusive reissue brings back a true dark ambient gem in all its despicable glory. The new digipak edition of the album is limited to 2000 copies. Remastered using tube technology, digitally edited on a golden disc. Metal Mind Productions set the release date for 7th October in Europe and 7th December in USA (via MVD).

Canada’s modern metal masters, THREAT SIGNAL, have parted ways with drummer Norm Killeen and are currently auditioning new members for the position. The band has issued the following statement:
“After three amazing years together the THREAT SIGNAL camp has decided to part ways with drummer Norm Killeen. This was a mutual decision and there are no hard feelings towards each other. We will still continue to work with Norm’s graphic design company NME Studios. We wish you all the best with your future endeavors Norm, much love and respect.
So now the drummer search begins! We’re looking for someone preferably with touring experience, but if not, that’s fine. We have quite a bit of dates coming up in October and November through out North America and Europe, so we’re looking for someone that can really nail these songs quick and hit the road.
To audition we’re going to need a video of you playing the songs ‘As I Destruct’, ‘To Remember’, and ‘Beyond Recognition’. Post these songs on YouTube or wherever you’d like and send them to email@example.com. Any further questions please feel free to contact us.“
Vigilance, the groups 2nd outing, was produced by vocalist Jon Howard and mixed by Greg Reely (FEAR FACTORY, FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY). The record was released on September 8th 2009 (N. America)) via Nuclear Blast Records and sold around 1,100 copies in its first week of sales in the United States. The CD landed at position No. 32 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
The video clip for the track “Through My Eyes” can be viewed below:
SF Bay Area Power/Thrashers IMAGIKA has commenced writing of their 8th album. The follow up to their critically acclaimed “Portrait Of A Hanged Man” will see the debut appearance of new members Guitarist Rob Kowolski and Drummer Wayne DeVecchi. The CD will be engineered again by Guitarist Steve Rice and mixed by Andy LaRocque. Sole founding member Steve Rice discusses the approach to the new CD,
“The band is definitely ready to kick ass with the new material that has been developing since we’ve been back from our US tour this past Summer. 13 new songs are in the works and as usual it will be a departure from our past releases. The original idea was to approach this as a concept album, but we agreed that it’s been beat to death by so many other bands that there is no point. I mean how can you top some of the great Metal concept albums like Operation Mind Crime or Abigail? It’s very hard to accomplish and not really our thing at the end of the day. But after hearing our singer’s seemingly endless collection of fruity, flowery Euro Power Metal while on the tour bus and sparing his iPod a horrible asphalt death I definitely knew what I didn’t want to do! HA! A CD full of progressive, complex and melodic Thrash Metal is more appealing to me and the band at this point and decidedly the definitive goal for this next release. By bringing new blood into the band there’s an aggressive attitude for making a bold statement with a lot to prove! Also being able to approach the recordings as a 2 guitar band is inspiring since we haven’t done that since our “My Bloodied Wings” 2006 release. It’ll be cool to kick it up a notch and bring more shred and harmony to the table this time. All in all I’m expecting nothing but the best from the band.”
A Spring 2011 release on an undetermined label is expected.
Ralf live with PRIMAL FEAR in Toronto, Canada (May 24, 2010)
As posted earlier, guitarist Henny Wolter has quit both PRIMAL FEAR and SINNER. He commented: “It just didn’t feel like a band anymore. I am looking forward to work with my buddies Klaus (Sperling – ex-Primal Fear) and Oimel (Larcher – vocals) in my new band NITROGODS. It’s a mean little three-piece and we are working on the debut album which should be released in early 2011.”
Primal Fear have commented on Wolter’s departure: “The split happened seven weeks ago. There was no reason for us to make a sensational headline or bad mouth each other. We feel sorry about this, but we have no more comments on the situation.
At the moment we’re rehearsing for the forthcoming European Tour that kicks off on Saturday in Warsaw, Poland and takes us through nine European countries. Be sure, we are well prepared and definitely ready to hit the road with five very common faces on stage, looking forward to meet you all. The band is thrilled to play a different new set-list incl. Some nice surprises and we will start working on a new studio album right after the tour ….. and as a friend on Facebook commented – yes it is the two headed guitar monster.
We wish Henny, his wife and kids all the best for the future and good luck on his forthcoming musical projects.”

Mesopotamian thrashing black metal pioneers MELECHESH have uploaded the track “Grand Gathas Of Baal Sin” to their Myspace page www.myspace.com/Melechesh. The track comes from the bands highly anticipated new album The Epigenesis.
Guitarist/Vocalist Ashmedi commented: “For all the nomadic souls out there, we realize that the anticipation for the release of The Epigenesis is building up. Here you have it, ‘Grand Gathas of Baal Sin’! A song which represent but one aspect of the album since the album itself is diverse and comprehensive. About this track well, it is extreme, it is tribal, it is Sumerian Sonic Magick” The Epigenesis was recorded in the newly built first class Babajim Studios in Istanbul, Turkey. The album was mixed by Reuben de Lautour and mastered by Pieter Snapper. In an unprecedented move in metal, the band chose to record the album entirely in Istanbul in an attempt to capture the inspiring surroundings. Babajim Studios is run by some of the most elite sound engineers in Turkey.
The artwork (attached) to their long awaited 5th album was handled by renowned UK based occult artist John Coulthart, whom the band has previously collaborated with before.
The Epigenesis will be released on October 1st in Europe and on October 26th in North America via Nuclear Blast Records.
After five demos and six years of anticipation, Bay Area black metal tyrants NECRITE have finally unleashed their debut curse upon us… The Flenser is proud to present NECRITE’S brooding full-length Sic Transit Gloria Mundi. Seamlessly fusing elements of droning doom, funeral ambience, and thrashing black metal, Sic Transit Gloria Mundi is a monument in the legacy of West Coast black metal along with the likes of Weakling’s Dead As Dreams and Leviathan’s Tenth Sublevel of Suicide. NECRITE has created something very special and very creepy on Sic Transit Gloria Mundi, brandishing over 66 minutes of horrifying, ambient black metal of the most oppressive and bleak type.
Sic Transit Gloria Mundi Track Listing:
1. A Mass for the Harvest of Death 16:04
2. Bereft of Hope (11:33)
3. Bathing Open Wounds with Shards of Glass (7:55)
4. Sic Transit Gloria Mundi (27:07)
5. Worship the Sunn ((O)) (7:33)
NECRITE is a three-piece: Thrull (vocals, guitars, studio bass), Tenspyr (guitar, live bass), and Malick (drums, vocals). Thrull himself recorded Sic Transit Gloria Mundi in a basement hole over the course of two and a half years, Thrull along with Eric Medina mixed and mastered the album. Since their debut, NECRITE have shared the stage with acts such as Watain, Destroyer 666, Enthroned and more, and has become a well-kept secret in the San Francisco black metal community. NECRITE has managed to craft some of the most visceral and demonic audio terror around, forgoing traditional song structure and predictability in lieu of a pure unflinching devotion to creating the aural essence of death bathed in a drone of tingly creepiness. The Flenser is most pleased to unleash this aural vomit into the ears of the unsuspecting… Sic Transit Gloria Mundi will be unleashed on November 2nd, 2010, but promos are available now for journalists seeking vile, anti-human music.

The track list for ‘The Tomb Within’ is…
1. The Tomb Within
2. My Corpse Shall Rise
3. Seven Skulls
4. Human Genocide
5. Mutant Village
Autopsy decided to make an official comeback after working together on two songs for the special 20th anniversary edition of their debut album, Severed Survival, in late 2008. The band had originally decided to split before the release of their 4th album, Shitfun, in 1995.
Autopsy emerged in 1987, and had an almost immediate impact on the global underground heavy metal scene. Frontman Chris Reifert was already known due to his work as drummer with Florida’s highly respected extreme metal combo, Death, along with Chuck Schuldiner. Autopsy’s debut album, Severed Survival, was unleashed in 1989 on Peaceville Records, and the band went on to become true legends in the death metal scene, recording four studio albums in total, before splitting up in the mid 90’s.

In the third of nine installments, bassist/vocalist Grutle Kjellson and rhythm guitarist/songwriter Ivar Bjørnson of the progressive/psychedelic Norwegian black metal band ENSLAVED offer commentary on the songs that will appear on the band’s new album Axioma Ethica Odini, which is scheduled for release in Europe on September 27th and in North America on September 28th.
Grutle on “Waruun”:
“This was one of the songs that took the longest time to get into. It also turned out to be the biggest surprise and among the songs I enjoy the most on this album. This was among me and [keyboard player and clean vocalist] Herbrand’s biggest difficulties when figuring out what to sing over things, and one of the last we recorded. It became quite experimental on all layers, but at the same time weirdly catchy! The best of those two worlds, one might say! A killer song, in my maybe not too humble, opinion.”
Ivar on “Waruun”:
“This is one of the first songs written for the album. The way the songwriting process starts is that I go away somewhere with my mobile recording rig. This time I didn’t go far, but far enough out of Bergen [Norway] to start forgetting some of the mundane distractions that can block creativity (rock-blocking?). The title is a construction of mine, and people can put whatever they want into it; I know vocalists Grutle and Herbrand have made their own interpretations. It is one of our heaviest song openers and shows how focused ENSLAVED’s musical energy can be, contrasting the more floating, ‘spacey’ parts that follow the opening. This is one of the songs that really benefitted from our heavy focus on working out arrangements in the rehearsal room rather than in the pre-production studio. The dynamics vary a lot and ‘solving’ the song requires finding the transitions between these dynamics. To be able to do that requires working in a ‘real’ environment, i.e. rehearsal room. Studio work only reveals so much of the inner life of the song.”

Fans interested in creating an official entry for ENSLAVED’s video contest for the track “Ethica Odini” can obtain details here. Contest ends Thursday, September 30th.

QUIET RIOT BACK IN BUSINESS WITH NEW SINGER AND UPCOMING TOUR
After the tragic passing of co-founding Quiet Riot singer Kevin DuBrow in 2007, many figured that the band was over. But while going through the vaults of vintage video material for an upcoming documentary of the band’s history, the spark was reignited once more for drummer Frankie Banali to kick QR back in gear. The easy part was filling the guitar and bass slots – as former members Chuck Wright (bass) and Alex Grossi (guitar) promptly signed on. However, having to fill DuBrow’s large shoes was no small task.
A longtime fan of heavy metal, singer Mark Huff came to Banali’s attention while fronting a California-based Van Halen tribute band (that focused on the “Sammy Hagar era”). A true Cinderella story, Huff auditioned via a cattle call audition, promptly blew Banali away, and got the gig. After getting the blessing from DuBrow’s mother to carry on with Quiet Riot (and to celebrate her son’s music), the group was ready to rock once more.
Quiet Riot hit mega-success with their first-ever US release in 1983, the classic ‘Metal Health.’ Spawning two hit singles that have gone on to become synonymous with heavy metal – “Cum On Feel the Noize” and “Metal Health” – the ‘Metal Health’ album went on to become the first-ever metal US debut to hit the #1 spot on the Billboard album charts, and resulted in a solid year of sold-out arena shows and non-stop MTV video airplay. However, it was the DuBrow-Banali-Wright-Grossi line-up that proved to be DuBrow’s favorite touring line-up (and also, most stable).
Quiet Riot is currently firming up plans for a full U.S. tour – their first in three years. And with the aforementioned documentary on the horizon, and the band’s music being used in hit films (‘The Wrestler,’ ‘Tropic Thunder’), video games (‘Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80’s’), and even musicals (‘Rock of Ages’) – as well as QR being name-checked in songs by Weezer and Ben Folds – Quiet Riot remains a major force in heavy metal. And soon, you will get a chance to bang your head once more to Quiet Riot, at a concert venue near you!
(New York, NY) — POWERGLOVE are pleased to announce their participation in a short run of tour dates with power metal titans FIREWIND led by the young guitar sensation Gus G (OZZY OSBOURNE) and THEABSENCE. Dates are scattered through out the northeast and Canada. “We’re very excited to go out on this run. We’re all big fans of Firewind, and the blazing guitar work of Gus G. And with a powerful band like The Absence on board, this should be a diverse and fun lineup. It will be our first time on the road after the release of our new album Saturday Morning Apocalypse, and we have some new shit in store for you!”says drummer Bassil Silver.
November 4th – Volume 11 Raleigh, NC
November 5th – Jaxx West Springfield, VA
November 6th – The Gramercy New York, NY
November 7th – Les Foufounes Electriques Montreal, Quebec, CANADA
The band recently released the morphing album cover and video teaser surrounding their next record “Saturday Morning Apocalypse” which is due out September 28th, 2010 via eOne Music. Combining power metal style with nostalgic theme songs of popular 80’s and 90’s cartoon and television theme songs, the band has tapped into the minds of generation X and Y with their most interesting release to date.
“Saturday Morning Apocalypse came out brighter and darker, faster and slower than our previous releases,” says Silver. This is the band’s first record with eOne Music and this time they’re taking their songs in a new direction. The band had previously stuck to 8 bit Nintendo game theme songs. However, this new release is their take on Saturday morning cartoons and movies that anyone who’s grown up in the 80’s will immediately recognize. Silver concludes with, “No matter what we write, we know all the comments will be about how bizarre we look, how ridiculous this track list is, and the fact that we somehow got Tony Kakko to sing the Pokemon theme for us. We would tell you how clown-rapingly awesome it is, but you can decide that for yourself when the album comes out in September.”
A full track listing of their power metal renditions can be found below.
2. Gotta Catch Em All
3. The Real Adventures of Johnny Quest
4. This Is Halloween
7. Inspector Gadget
8. Heffalumps and Woozles (Winnie The Pooh)
9. The Simpsons (Feat. Tony Kakko)
10. The Flinstones 11. Gotta Catch Em All (Feat. Tony Kakko)
“We are POWERGLOVE and we are here to f*ck with your childhood!” proclaims the band at the beginning of their live shows. After finding success mining the brains of the A.D.D. driven video game generation with songs like “Tetris,” POWERGLOVE have set their sights on the inner child in all of us. To this end, the band has set its blasters from stun to kill; it’s target: the world! The band has recently completed two separate, successful, tours with HAMMERFALL and SONATAARTICA. Watch for them this summer as they continue to add dates for video game festivals and live performances.
POWERGLOVE is composed of four battle-hardened rockers out of Boston, MA: Alex Berkson, Bassil Silver, Chris Marchiel, and Nick Avila. This band shreds metal renditions of everything from old school 8- bit video game classics to contemporary blockbusters, all with a heavy metal attitude – and there’s nothing you can do to stop them!
