Video footage of drum sessions with Paweł “Paul” Jaroszewicz, drummer for Poland’s extreme metal band VADER, is now available online here for viewing.  States Jaroszewicz:

“We started our session showing up in the studio on March 14th, at 9 p.m. after a few hours’ drive on our perfect Polish roads with a trailer full of gear – I really recommend it!  This day we only managed to do the load-in and hit the sack – as we were dead on our feet. The real session started the next day with setting up the drums, changing the skins, placing microphones and tuning the drums. Then… we were adjusting the sound looking for ‘this is it’ in each element of the set.  It lasted for the whole day and a half but it was definitely worth it.  The sound of the drums just kicks asses! For the next few days the schedule of work was practically the same – breakfast, setting the recording plan for the day, preparing a pilot for the drums, recording, monitoring plus corrections if needed, recording, supper and going to bed . . . For 7 days, we recorded 9 new songs, 2 covers and a re-make of veeeeeery old VADER track. The results of our work will be available probably in August. For now, look forward to the studio reports and the pictures from the further recording of WTTMR.

Quite recently I’ve also become the official endorser of Paiste’s cymbals. These are definitely the best sounding cymbals on the market and they were my wildest dream since I started to play the drums. I’m proud that now I can join the Paiste family. Of course you will hear them on the newest VADER album.”

VADER entered Hertz Studio in Bialystok, Poland with Wojtek Wiesławski and are recording their new album, Welcome To The Morbid Reich. As previously stated by VADER mainman Peter W., draft titles of a few tracks include: “Lords of Thorns,” “I Am Who Feast Upon Your Souls,” “Only Hell Knows,” “Return to the Morbid Reich,”and “I Had A Dream.”  Fans attending VADER concerts and summer festivals will have a chance to listen to one or two new tracks from the new album.  Additionally, the band is resurrecting the use of their old logo.

VADER’s last album, Necropolis, debuted at #19 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart the week after its release.  It was also recorded at Hertz Studios in Bialystok, Poland with the Wieslawski Bros., mixed by Tue Madsen (Halford, Kataklysm, Behemoth) at Antfarm Studios in Denmark, and featured cover artwork by Jacek Wisniewski.

MORBID ANGEL – New Album Tracklisting, Various Formats Revealed

April 5th, 2011
by EvilG
MORBID ANGEL - Illud Divinum Insanus

MORBID ANGEL - Illud Divinum Insanus

French label Season Of Mist will release the new studio album from Florida extreme metallers MORBID ANGEL, entitled Illud Divinum Insanus, on June 6th internationally, June 7th in North America. The album will be released in Japan via JVC (date TBA).

Illud Divinum Insanus is the band’s eighth studio album, and the first since legendary frontman David Vincent rejoined the fold. Below is the cover artwork of this new opus, designed by Gustavo Sazes:

The artist stated: “To create this cover we worked from several references, ideas, elements, and I would say a ”world” of options and paths. After a long brainstorming period and some [good and bad] ideas left behind we came up with the concept of this organic surreal insane being; a fallen God or a weird mirror image of our own madness. It is a different Morbid Angel cover for sure, but I think that’s how Morbid Angel is… Deviant and different on each new release. They never repeat themselves. They are always pushing the boundaries and setting new standards. I’m really proud of the final results and hope the fans appreciate my work, while listening to the new album!”

Illud Divinum Insanus tracklisting:

‘Omni Potens’

‘Too Extreme!’

‘Existo Vulgoré’

‘Blades For Baal’

‘I Am Morbid’

’10 More Dead’

‘Destructos VS The Earth / Attack’

‘Beauty Meets Beast’

‘Profundis – Mea Culpa’

Illud Divinum Insanus will be available in the following formats:

– Wooden foldout box

– Metal starpak CD (outside North America)

– Deluxe digipak CD (North America only)

– Double gatefold LP with download card

– Jewel case CD

– Digital download

Most of these formats are already available for pre-order on Season Of Mist’s e-shop.

The wooden foldout box is a triptych made of solid fine wood with all panels engraved, and includes the following items:

– Illud Divinum Insanus CD in real leather-bound book

– Illud Divinum Insanus double gatefold LP in coloured heavy weight (180 grams) vinyl, different from the regular LP edition

– 2 black candles with red wax Blasphegram and their holders

All above items are exclusively made for this limited box and will not be available separately.

Season Of Mist will release a single, ‘Nevermore’, on May 16th as 7” collectors edition vinyl and digital download. The B-side is an exclusive version of new song, ‘Destructos VS The Earth’, remixed by COMBICHRIST.

“Of all the remixes I’ve been asked to do I never expected one of the world’s most notorious death metal bands to have an interest in hearing their music on the dance floor”, Combichrist mainman Andy LaPlegua comments. “However, ‘Destructos’ is one of those tracks that are so versatile that it could have been recorded as a folk song and it would still sound amazing. I’m honored to be a part of this project and am excited to see how the Morbid Angel fans react to this unusual new direction.”

The cover artwork for the single was designed by French artists Valnoir and Fursy Teyssier for Metastazis. Check it out below:

Morbid Amgel - Nevermore (single)

Morbid Amgel - Nevermore (single)

As previously reported, Illud Divinum Insanus will include ten songs, at least three of which stretch the boundaries of what is conventional Morbid territory. was privy to a sneak peek of four tracks, including the more traditional ‘Nevermore’ and the bizarre guitar that sounds like a keyboards of ‘I Am Morbid’, which begins with live crowd chant.

Morbid Angel’s ninth album begins with the letter I, keeping with the band’s tradition of naming their albums in alphabetical order beginning with 1989’s Altars Of Madness through 2003’s Heretic. The album was tracked at Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida with engineer Erik Rutan (HATE ETERNAL; former Morbid Angel guitarist).

Posted in Death Metal | Comments (0) To Release Exclusive Peter Steele Tribute Album “All For None, None For All: A Tribute to Peter Steele”

Peter Steele

Peter Steele

Last year the musical world was dealt a serious blow when gothic metal titan Peter Steele tragically passed away at the age of 48. While Peter may be gone, his music and his legacy live on, and they continue to inspire musicians around the world.

To honor Peter’s memory on the anniversary of his passing, and lead a new generation of metalheads to his music, heavy metal news site has teamed up with a dozen underground bands from across the globe to release an exclusive tribute album. The tribute, entitled “All For None, None For All: A Tribute to Peter Steele,” was done in collaboration with Dan Mitchell of Beneath The Woods Studio and features twelve stellar cover songs from many stages of Peter’s career in both Type O Negative and Carnivore.

The songs covered, which include interpretations running the gamut from depressive rock to power metal to death metal and many stops in-between, are as follows:

1. Auvernia – “I Don’t Wanna Be Me”

2. Fairytale Abuse – “Black No. 1”

3. In.verno – “Everything Dies”

4. Dead Shape Figure – “Dead Again”

5. Revilement – “Sex and Violence”

6. Emancer – “Girlfriend’s Girlfriend”

7. A Band of Orcs – “Green Man”

8. Enthrope – “Wolf Moon”

9. Stabbingback – “Halloween in Heaven”

10. Dark Hound – “Life Is Killing Me”

11. Autumns Eyes – “Love You To Death”

12. Blind Greed – “Christian Woman”

A final track listing is still being determined.

Discussing his own exposure to Type O Negative, Fairytale Abuse vocalist Simon Pederson explained, “I remember very clearly when one of my friends introduced me to Type O Negative back in the early 90´s. I was quite impressed by the ambiance and melancholia of the music but even more by the depth and character of Peter Steele´s vocals. Since then their albums still regularly find their way to my CD player.” Simon then went on to add, “Peter Steele is for us without doubt one of the most significant forefathers within the entire melodic metal genre. So when being asked to deliver a song for his tribute we were doubtless that we had to participate and are honored to do so.”

The tribute includes a complete digital booklet including words from the band members themselves about Peter’s influence.

“All For None, None For All: A Tribute To Peter Steele” will be available in digital format through for a small price, required to cover the mechanical licensing fees and transaction fees. content manager Ty Arthur further commented, “Ideally, we wanted to give this tribute away for free and let it spread like wildfire, but when distributing cover songs there are licensing fees involved since the original compositions belong to the artist and/or label. This tribute is meant to honor Peter Steele and Type O Negative’s impact on his fans and the metal landscape. We do not intend to make a penny off of this release and any earnings we may have at the end of the day will be donated to charity.

British crossover thrashers SSS recently finished recording their new album, PROBLEMS TO THE ANSWER, which is due to be released later this year on Earache Records.

SSS frontman FOXY discusses the artwork for the forthcoming new album:

“Finally we have some art!  Our good friend PUTRID did it for us (  No airbrushed neon unicorn slop here.  It’s straight up black and white pen and ink.  The art shows two dogs, they are joined and are fighting against themselves.  No matter which way they turn, they can never escape each other.  They’re going round in circles, trying to survive, putting up with aggravation on the way.  The back of the record shows the outcome to this life-cycle situation.”

SSS recently released a new track from PROBLEMS TO THE ANSWER, to give fans a taster of what’s to come from the album.

FOXY discusses the new track, titled “Painting By Numbers”:

“Painting by Numbers deals with learning through memorization and repetition.  It’s about going through the motions, going up to the borders of what’s expected and not beyond.  The same elements being cut and pasted into a different order appear new but are really the same, tired and watered down.  Memorize, learn, repeat, stagnate.

“Nothing should ever be a given – break down imposed barriers and always scrawl over the lines.”

THINNING THE HERD Track Premiere Via The Obelisk; Band To Play NYC Benefit Show

April 5th, 2011
by EvilG

This week online doom/rock/metal outlet have posted a brand new track from bluesy-doom rockers THINNING THE HERD’s upcoming full-length for public consumption. The track “On Fire” is the closing anthem on TTH’s recently completed Oceans Rise full-length, set for release on the band’s own St. Marks Records this Tuesday, April 5th. Check it out here.

THINNING THE HERD are also locking down additional NYC area shows for the coming weeks, and have confirmed an upcoming Rock Against Dystrophy benefit show in Manhattan on May 7th.

5/07/2011 Kenny Castaways – New York, NY

w/ From Out of Nowhere, Gods Green Earth, The Saints of Pain

$10 – all proceeds to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association

The eight-song Oceans Rise album boasts the band’s soulful brew of grunge-fueled, blues-driven, stoner-infused rock, and was put on tape by the engineering masters at Seizures Palace in Brooklyn (Child Abuse, Swans, OvO, Dresden Dolls). The album surges with soul over its 35-minute life span, alive with groove and stories, inciting a trampled but triumphant sense of survival and good times.

“…the five boroughs are awash in acts who blow hipster chunks all over the place in some kind of fashion show of who can out-horrible each other, and quality rock is a boon when you find it — which is why I’m into Thinning the Herd.” – The Obelisk

“‘On Fire’ brings the album to a slow, sludgy close… Man, this track smokes!” – Hellbound

“There is a memorable thread weaving its way through the grungy guitar licks, warm production and soaring vocals of Thinning the Herd, rallying together to create an album experience which is imminently listenable, and ultimately enjoyable.” – Metal Army America

Technical death metal band DECAPITATED have issued the final report from Radio Gdańsk Studio in Poland regarding the recording for their Nuclear Blast debut and follow-up to 2006’s Organic Hallucinosis:

“The session is over!  We are 100% happy with what we have created.  The final effect is mind-blowing and we ourselves are surprised with the outcome of a two-month recording session and a six-month period of polishing the material.  Worth mentioning is that some of the riffs were done in the days of the prior DECAPITATED. People have changed, but the spirit has remained untouched and despite a few innovations, it is still the DECAPITATED you all know.

“As we had mentioned before, we have been consistently striving to get the ‘true,’ organic and natural sound.  The sum of all ingredients has resulted in a staggering power and a crazy adrenaline shot.  Moreover, to our surprise, something else has emerged… insanity, madness, inexplicable power.  This is the factor that most of [the] top ‘trite’ productions lack.  Over the whole music hovers some idea, some concept that infects the listeners like a disease.  This is what the music is always all about and the reason why you return to some records years after years – it’s the emotions… We are damn proud, fulfilled, self-confident and are looking forward to confronting the new material live.  All the best!”

DECAPITATED’s new album has produced by Wacek Kiełtyka and sound engineered by Malta Arkadiusz Malczewski.  Drums were recorded with Daniel Bergstrand (BEHEMOTH, MESHUGGAH, DIMMU BORGIR, KEEP OF KALESSIN, DEFLESHED), who also handled mixing duties.  The band will be self-releasing the new album in their native Poland.

DECAPITATED’s line-up includes: Wacław “Vogg” Kiełtyka on guitar, Kerim “Krimh” Lechner (Thorns Of Ivy, Tone Intimacy) on drums, Rafał Piotrowski (Ketha, Forgotten Souls) on lead vocals, and Filip “Heinrich” Hałucha (Vesenia, Rootwater, Unsun, Masachist) on bass.

Drawing influence from the 70’s prog of King Crimson and Yes, composers Steve Reich and Schoenberg as well as prog-metal masters Opeth, Dream Theater and Cynic, LCTR’s “Level 2” takes the band in awe-inspiring new directions.

Set in a Tron-like virtual world, the album’s concept revolves around the relationship between man and technology, our move from physical reality to virtual spaces and what these changes mean to our lives and our art. The lyrics are expressed from the point of view of an artificial intelligence facing the violent reality of a videogame world.

Since forming in 2005, LAST CHANCE TO REASON has shared the stage with Born of Osiris, Genghis Tron, Periphery, The Red Chord, Daath, Through The Eyes Of The Dead, Unearth and many more.

Mainman & producer Peter Tägtgren recently commented on the artwork: “I really wanted something with a Nightmare Before Christmas meets Alice In Wonderland kind of feeling but with our mascot, the painhead in it. The artist Heile created what I wanted but did it in his own way. It really has this kind of Tim Burton feel to it. It will be really crazy on a big backdrop. Cirith Gorgor replace Troll
Cirith Gorgor will replace Troll on this years Kings of Black Metal. Unfortunately, Troll can’t play at the Kings Of Black Metal Festival, because a band member is job-related occupied that weekend and won’t be able to arrive.

Due to the many wishes, there will be a aftershow-party for the first time this year, with participation of some musicians from the band of the festival billing!

Shuttle-Service: Gießen – Alsfeld
To counter the problem with the train connections, there will be a shuttle bus service from Gießen to Alsfeld and back! Check this site for more information :
