OZZY OSBOURNE Documentary God Bless Ozzy Osbourne

Rick Warner from Bloomberg reports that the OZZY OSBOURNE documentary, God Bless Ozzy Osbourne, will be shown at the 10th annual Tribeca Film Festival, which runs from April 20th to May 1st in New York.

God Bless Ozzy Osbourne (originally given the MUCH BETTER title ‘Wreckage Of My Past: The Story Of Ozzy Osbourne’), directed by Mike Fleiss and Mike Piscitelli, recounts the turbulent career of the heavy metal musician turned reality-show star. The 91 minute film is also the first release from his son Jack Osbourne’s Jacko Productions.

Ozzy Osbourne’s four decade track record as a culturally relevant artist is unprecedented, but his personal struggles have been shrouded in secrecy, until now. Featuring never before seen footage uncovered from the archives and interviews with PAUL McCARTNEY, TOMMY LEE and others, God Bless Ozzy Osbourne is the first documentary to take viewers inside the complex mind of rock’s great icon. Emerging from a working class family in war torn England, Osbourne and his neighborhood friends formed BLACK SABBATH and invented heavy metal. Plagued by self doubt, Osbourne the solo superstar went on a binge that lasted 40 years. God Bless Ozzy Osbourne will relive the highs of his triumphs as well as his journey to sobriety, which Ozzy regards as his greatest accomplishment.

Filming for God Bless Ozzy Osbourne began in January 2008. The documentary will reportedly include additional interviews with all the principal members of Black Sabbath, the various incarnations of Ozzy’s solo band, family and friends.

Jack Osbourne recently completed God Bless Ozzy Osbourne and talks about it with Artisan News below:

Crocell inks deal with Ultimhate Records

March 15th, 2011
by EvilG

The Danish death metal band Crocell have inked a deal with Ultimhate Records, who will release the band’s second album, “The Wretched Eidola”, on April 26 in Denmark and April 29 in the rest of the world.

During the last months Crocell have negotiated with several labels, which is why the follow-up to 2008’s “The God We Drowned” has been delayed a while. But now Crocell have agreed on a deal with the Belgian label Ultimhate Records, who recently also released the debut album by the fellow Danes in Essence.

Guitarist Smukke Ken comments: “Ultimhate Records is a fairly small and new label but after a personal meeting with the A&R boss we had a great impression and they are very eager to release “The Wretched Eidola”. They are dedicated and willing to put a lot of effort into presenting this new album to as many people as possible – and now we are just looking forward to finally releasing it as well as getting out there on stage and present the new songs live!”

A few videos of Crocell’s performance at the Musik Aarhus Festival in January can be found on the band’s Youtube channel (www.youtube.com/crocelldk).

BLIND GUARDIAN Update from Hansi!

March 15th, 2011
by EvilG

Another year, another message. Here, as promised a little while ago, the ultimate report about what we were dealing with the past few months and what to expect for the upcoming year.

I assume everyone reading these lines has had a chance to discover At the Edge of Timeand hopefully still enjoys it as much as we do. The very positive feedback we have gotten worldwide is of course a strong motivation for us. As said at other places before, we consider this album as the perfect connection between new and old. It contains a little bit of everything but still has a strong musical thread running throughout and offers us many options for our next projects.

It is no surprise when I tell you that the next journey will certainly lead us into an even more classical direction. There will be a few more trips to Prague necessary to finalize all orchestral recordings for our classical project but all things must come to an end eventually. The result of the stuff we have already recorded keeps me in a very good and optimistic mood, even though I consider the wait until the project’s completion very painful. Charlie [Bauerfeind] and I nonetheless will start working on the first vocal recordings during the next days. Since we will be interrupted by quite a lot of upcoming shows I would be happy if I were to find myself in a position to finish the first five songs vocalwise before the year is over. It is challenging stuff for everyone. One fine day, all of a sudden, when no one expects it, I will announce its completion. Certainly not within the next twelve months, but one very, very fine day.

From one long-term project to another. As we had time to share some serious moments with each other during the 70000 Tons of Metal cruise (somewhere on the oceans of time) Jon [Schaffer; Iced EarthSons of Liberty] and I had finally found the chance to put our minds together for a possible next Demons & Wizards album. We cheerfully simultaneously announced our wish to start working on it as quickly as possible. Although time is an issue for both of us we nonetheless decided to start songwriting together during the European summer festival season when Jon will be in Europe for Iced Earth performances. During that season we will use every possible moment to complete as much material as possible. To guarantee a good-mood-songwriting feeling I have already saved some good bottles of red wine and a smaller amount of Johnny Walker black label in our studio. Things are still in the mist but we are about to recognize structures of a busy future.

As for the people who have bought the limited edition and may have started wondering about the promised additional stuff on the connected media page I can, one more time, promise that your waiting will soon be over and all your doubts about the value of having such questionable access will be erased. We have several things we are about to accomplish during the next days. Once finished we will make an official announcement telling you when the material will be available for download.

Apart from having worked on some remixes of the new stuff we obviously were able to catch a lot of impressions from our time on the road during the last months. Touring in all these European and Northern American venues was a definite blast and we cannot wait to hit the next countries and cities fairly soon. As we recorded most of the shows we have played so far, I can tell you that there have been a number of outstanding magic moments. I mostly was impressed by the great response the new stuff has gotten. Even when we toured in the early nineties it usually took one round to establish new material. But that is not the case with any of the new ones we played. They immediately got very significant responses each night. Another approval for their quality, I dare to say. Of course, we will try to come up with more new songs for the shows we are going to play during the next months. Since we have some time to waste until then we have decided to work on even more songs to be performed for these shows. I will keep it a secret which songs we are working on… though it won ‘t be many, I have to confess. Yes, I know how to spoil a story. It ‘s one of my best qualities – apart from looking cool while sitting on a chair.

Enjoy life.

Prepare to be “Infected” by HAMMERFALL on May 20th

March 15th, 2011
by EvilG

In May, 20th, HAMMERFALL is going to release their new album called Infected.  Laying down the foundation themselves in their own studio in Sweden, the band then traveled to Nashville, TN, to finish it up with acclaimed producer James Michael (MÖTLEY CRÜE, SCORPIONS, MEAT LOAF). He also mixed the album, giving it a decisive updated edge without losing anything of the essence of the band. “James helped us create something that was new and exciting while still in the line of our heritage”, Oscar Dronjak, guitar player and founder of the band, explains.

“Never before have we sounded this fresh and up to date without losing the essence of what HammerFall is all about: Pure “Infected” Heavy Metal!”, comments vocalist and frontman Joacim Cans.

You will experience us like you’ve never done before! We’ve got a lot of fresh influences shining through in the music, but everything you love about HammerFall will still be there“, says Oscar. “This is HammerFall in 2011, the legend has been reborn!”.

On March 12th, the album was introduced for the first time to an international group of press people in Göteborg, where the album received a great response. Metal Hammer Spain calls it “the HammerFall of the future“, while British Powerplay Magazine comments: “Infected will have the name HammerFall spreading like a virus. Prepare for an epidemic!”.

HammerFall - Infected
The slipcase cover.

The album consists eleven songs, and the limited first edition will also include a bonus DVD with unreleased video material of five of the Infected tracks.

A compete track listing of the album reads as follows:

Patient Zero

One More Time

The Outlaw

Send Me A Sign

Dia De Los Muertos

I Refuse

666 – The Enemy Within

Let’s Get It On

The first single will be One More Time, released on April 6th, digital only. A video will be shot by Patrick Ullaeus, who is also responsible for the cover artwork of Infected.

Kings of Black Metal location changed from Giessen to Alsfeld

March 15th, 2011
by EvilG

The Kings of Black Metal Festival location is changed from Giessen to nearby Alsfeld.
Beside the decreasing number of available tickets for the festival, following reasons led us to this decision:

– optimal transport connection (the railway station is just a few minutes away from the venue)
– free parking space in front of the hall
– more space inside of the hall for a more relaxed atmosphere
– better sound- and view conditions

All in all we consider these advantages decisive to displace the festival from Giessen to the town hall of nearby Alsfeld. We are sure that we are able to offer both the fans and the bands a higher quality festival there.

Kings of Black Metal Festival 2011
16.04.2011: Stadthalle Alsfeld, Alsfeld / Germany

/w WATAIN (Sweden), DORNENREICH (Austria), ENDSTILLE (Germany), TAAKE (Norway), CORPUS CHRISTII (Portugal), INQUISITION (USA), TROLL (Norway), ALCEST (France) and as special guest CHROME DIVISION (Norway)

SABATON – Drummer Leaves Tour

March 15th, 2011
by EvilG
Sabaton - Coat of Arms

Sabaton - Coat of Arms

Unfortunately our drummer Daniel Mullback had to leave the current tour due to problems with his knees.

But… The show must go on, and this Swedish War Machine cannot be stopped that easy…

We stole Nightmare´s drummer Kevin, did some rehearsals during the day and were able to do the whole show yesterday.

For the last shows we have recruited our old friend Robert Bäck from Falun to handle the drums.

With less then 24 hours to learn a complete Sabaton show we want to dedicate a huge thanks to Kevin who saved the day!

Achtung Panzer, we’ll never fall!

3 INCHES OF BLOOD are excited to announce that they have won the 2011 Indie award for “Metal Artist/Group Of The Year”. The 11th annual Indie Awards – or the “Grammys-of-the-Canadian-Indie-Scene” – took place on Saturday, March 12 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto, marking the closing festivities of Canadian Music Week. Century Media, EMI Music Canada, and 3IOB’s entire Canadian team would like to congratulate the band on an incredible year!

3IOB vocalist Cam Pipes comments, “We’d like to thanks all our fans for voting for us. As a metal band, it’s nice to be recognized on a national scale. Congrats also to our friends in Cancer Bats who also picked up an Indie award the same night. Both bands winning sets up our upcoming tour together with a little extra notoriety.”

3 INCHES OF BLOOD will team up with fellow Canadians CANCER BATS for a cross- Canada run in May. Right before that they will hit the U.S. with SKELETONWITCH for a two week run through the Midwest and East coast, which will include a stop at New England Metal and Hardcore Festival in Worcester, MA on April 16th.

Born out of a love for pure metal, weaned on a diet of fantasy and mythology, Vancouver’s 3 INCHES OF BLOOD are one of the biggest defenders of traditional heavy metal and have been slaying the infidel for nearly a decade. In that time, they’ve released three albums and splattered the ground with crimson streaks while on tour with such acclaimed acts as Satyricon, The Black Dahlia Murder, Motorhead and Cradle of Filth, to name a few. The band’s latest album, the monumental Here Waits Thy Doom (September 8, 2009, Century Media) has set the standard for new heavy metal.

TERMINATRYX – unique South African Industrial-Metal band

March 14th, 2011
by EvilG
TERMINATRYX > Rare South African Horror-laced music video / short film combo
“Virus” the Horror-inspired music video of Cape Town based female-fronted Industrial-Metal band TERMINATRYX is in fact a three-pronged project breaking South African boundaries and expectations.

Originally in October 2009 a werewolf transformation promo clip was produced by Paul BlomSonja Ruppersberg for their South African HORRORFEST Film Festival (est. 2005).  It was directed by Paul (also a Fangoria contributing writer), stars Sonja (who is the HorrorFest postergirl) and features make-up FX by Clinton Smith.

A woman finds an unmarked envelope on her doorstep containing an old Betamax tape.  She digs an old player from her cupboard and views it. A full moon appears on screen – and things get hairy(!)

See the uncensored TERMINATRYX “Virus” music video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDiRabFQXvg
Watch the original HorrorFest trailer at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFh62j-3IpI
Catch a teaser of the expanded movie & music video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2pVRqC5Has

The outcome of this promo clip was very well received, and even American Werewolf In London director John Landis was impressed when it was passed on to him. With a very tight shoot of a single night for the original promo clip, some of the prosthetics by world class make-up FX artist Clinton Smith (from Cosmesis) could not be utilized.  (Smith has done exceptional work for movies like The Last House On The Left remake, Laconia, and Death Race 2).

So, mid-2010 they loaded up and head down the Cape Town east coast to Betty’s Bay, to expand upon this exciting clip.  This was transformed into the impacting “Virus” music video for Paul & Sonja’s band TERMINATRYX, as well as an even more involved short film, “Marked” (featuring soon at: http://www.YouTube.com/FlamedropProductions)

The bulk of this expanded shoot was done over a single weekend with very little sleep in the middle of the Cape Town winter (with a few pick-up shots in July and October). A grueling shoot had Sonja running around the woods in the cold night, and naked in a freezing mountain pool. The movie was shot on the Canon 5D MKII camera by Marnus Tredoux – camera supplied by Visual Impact / Magus, chosen for its superior quality and user friendly handling – http://www.visuals.tv This multi-purpose project is unlike any South African music video, short film, or promo clip, and was produced by Paul & Sonja’s Flamedrop Productions, in co-operation with Cosmesis Advanced Prosthetic Studio, Visual Impact / Magus, Magic Hour Productions, Furry Wood Productions and Silver Bullet Lighting. Both TERMINATRYX “Virus” and “Marked” made their debut at the 2010 South African HORRORFEST Film Festival over Halloween season, and got the Audience Choice Award, plus Best Special Make-Up FX.

Paul & Sonja are currently gearing up for another short film and music video, as well as writing a feature film screenplay. Another audio-visual project they spearhead is THE MAKABRA ENSEMBLE, creating new soundtracks for silent classics silent movies and performing it live to the screen. The next boundary-stretching TERMINATRYX release is a full remix album of their self-titled album incl. Sigue Sigue Sputnik, Sheep On Drugs (both UK), Industriezone (Austria), Modern-e-Quartet (Greece), The Awakening (RSA / USA), and local remixers like Battery 9, Mr. Sakitumi, Nul & more.
