TRIPTYKON TO RELEASE NEW EP IN WAKE OF FIRST EVER US TOUR; Shatter’ EP out next month on Century Media Records

Triptykon’s ‘Shatter’ EP

Triptykon’s ‘Shatter’ EP

ZURICH, SWITZERLAND – Triptykon, the group formed by former Hellhammer/Celtic Frost singer, guitarist, and main songwriter, Tom Gabriel Warrior, will follow its highly acclaimed debut album, Eparistera Daimones, with the release of ‘Shatter’, an all-new five-track EP, to be released on Century Media Records on October 25th.

Triptykon’s ‘Shatter’ EP will be available through Century Media Records (under license from Prowling Death Records Ltd.) as a CD, digital download, and 12″ vinyl. The EP will further contain the lyrics to all songs as well as detailed liner notes and credits.

The EP’s track listing is…

01. Shatter

02. I Am The Twilight

03. Crucifixus

04. Circle Of The Tyrants (live)

05. Dethroned Emperor (live) – Featuring guest lead vocals by Nocturno Culto of Darkthrone/Sarke

‘Shatter’ will consist almost entirely of previously unreleased music, and it will hit stores toward the end of Triptykon’s first ever North American tour, the “Weltenbrand Tour 2010”. Decibel Magazine and Stereogum/Haunting the Chapel have teamed up to present Triptykon’s headlining North American debut, set to kick off in New York City on October 6th. 1349 and Yakuza will round out the bill on what is sure to be this fall’s heaviest tour.

Tom Gabriel Warrior (vocals, guitars) describes his emotions of anticipation on this new undertaking:

“Ever since my earliest days in Hellhammer and Celtic Frost, I have been extremely fortunate to be able to count on the support, fanaticism, and immense loyalty of the North American metal scene. The recognition my work has received there eclipses anything I have ever encountered in my own native country. Of the 125 concerts performed on the final Celtic Frost tour in 2006 and 2007, for example, a full 71 were played in North America. Some of these performances rank among the most memorable ones in my entire career.”

“It is thus an immense honor for me to now bring my new group Triptykon to North America for the first time. Triptykon is further pursuing the path I once began with Hellhammer and Celtic Frost, and I am looking forward to continuing to forge this darkest of musical alliances with all of you. We shall all celebrate masses of unleashed heaviness and morbidity. Only death is real!”

The main purpose of Triptykon is to continue where Celtic Frost left off and to satisfy Warrior’s undying passion for extreme music. Next to Warrior, Triptykon features V. Santura (guitar, vocals), Norman Lonhard (drums, percussion) and Vanja Slajh (bass).

SYMPHORCE – “Unrestricted” in October!!

September 17th, 2010
by EvilG
Symphorce - UNRESTRICTED

Symphorce - UNRESTRICTED

Some bands just don´t allow limitations or restrictions. Experiments are necessary for them to discover the depth of their visions. SYMPHORCE are one of those bands. The hard working group around singer Andy B. Franck (also Brainstorm) and guitarist Cede Dupont is known for only releasing first-class material as well as breaking stylistic borders and playing the hottest up-to-date Power Metal that one has heard in the last 10 years.

What better title could have been found for the new SYMPHORCE album than “Unrestricted”? It sums up the band´s attitude perfectly and is underlined by a scenario of breaking chains on the cover artwork. “Unrestricted” comes at you like a hammerfist wrapped into a velvet glove. Powerful, modern, melodic, traditional, angry and sensitive, all at the same time. Undoubtedly it is the most “catchy” piece of work that the band has ever created – and it´s all hits! This album is highlight-filled from start to finish, delivering a strong dose of gutsy Power Metal that whether lacks balls nor melody. Cleverly integrated electronic elements and the forceful executed and creative guitar work make SYMPHORCE something special amongst the Metal scene. “Unrestricted” was recorded in the Studio 22 (Ludwigsburg, Germany), mixed and mastered by Axel Heckert.

Already with their debut “Truth To Promises” (1999 – Noise Records) Andy and his band delivered a strong piece of work which immediately gained the band a lot of attention and fantastic reviews. Andy, guitarist Cédric “Cede” Dupont and bassist Dennis Wohlbold became the creative core of the band, producing razor-sharp riffs and catchy melodies as if there was no tomorrow. Following a tour supporting MERCYFUL FATE, the band released their sophomore album “Sinctuary” (2000 – Noise Records), which managed to spread the name SYMPHORCE even further. Both fans and press hailed SYMPHORCE as one of the most promising and hopeful bands of the future, and they were right… The last few line-up problems were solved when guitarist/songwriter Markus Pohl and drummer Sascha Sauer joined the band. After playing a number of shows and festivals, the band devoted itself to the creation of new songs.
Now working with Metal Blade as their new partner, SYMPHORCE recorded their following two albums, “phorcefulAhead” (2002) and “Twice Second” (2004) at the House of Music Studios with Achim Köhler (BRAINSTORM, PRIMAL FEAR etc.) producing. “Energetic”, “modern”, “with real bite” are just some of the descriptions that the worldwide press gave the band. Through tours supporting the likes of KAMELOT and GRAVE DIGGER, as well as several festival shows, SYMPHORCE established themselves as a first-class international live act. Despite the difficulty of following up the press’ and fans’ favorite “Twice Second”, SYMPHORCE delivered once again. Everybody, from the last few skeptics to the true “phorceheads”, was equally surprised: “GodSpeed” showcased a band that had become a staple in the music world of 2005. Working with producer Dennis Ward (ANGRA, PINK CREAM 69) at the House of Music Studios, the band created a modern yet timeless album, far beyond the confines of so called power metal. A tour with SONATA ARCTICA and SYMPHORCE’s US live debut followed, making the band a worldwide name. February 2007 was set for the release of “Become Death”, the sixth album, featuring new drummer Steffen Theurer. Produced by Dennis Ward and mastered by Achim Köhler once again, “Become Death” was a true and unexpected progression for the band. In 2009 SYMPHORCE then signed a new deal with AFM Records. With “Unrestricted” the band now ultimately climbs the metal Olympus!

September 17th, 2010
by EvilG

Arielle Castillo from Miaminewtimes.com spoke with Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian recently about a number of topics. A few excerpts from the chat follow:

On Metallica’s Lars Ulrich telling an Australian radio station there were more Big Four shows planned for 2011 and 2012:

Has Joey Belladonna rejoined the band for the longer term?
Ian: “I don’t know. I think if I’ve learned anything is that I’m just gonna go with it. Joey’s kicking ass, the shows in Europe were great, and that’s about as far as I can go with ansewring that question. I don’t know what’s gonna happen next week.”

OBITUARY’s John Tardy Confirms Longtime Bassist Frank Watkins Is Out Of The Band

September 17th, 2010
by EvilG

Norman McCann from Tomb Of The Opinionated spoke to OBITUARY singer John Tardy this week about the rumours long-time bassist of 21 years Frank Watkins has left the band.

”Frank is no longer in the band and Terry Butler (SIX FEET UNDER) will be doing all the shows that he can with us. Right now we are happy with that and if Terry’s schedule does not allow him to play with us we can always lean on Stever DiGiorgio (SADUS) or Kenny Andrews.”

As for an update on their new album Tardy added: “We have been doing so much traveling that is has been hard to get much done but, we have managed to get some songs started. We now have some time set aside to get some writing done so we will know more in the next couple of months. We are in no hurry and are going to take our time and enjoy the writing and recording process!”

The follow-up to 2009’s Darkest Day will be the first Obituary album not to be recorded with longtime bassist Frank Watkins since their 1989 debut Slowly We Rot.

September 17th, 2010
by EvilG

Chicago deathcore heavyweights, OCEANO are unleashing a brand new album on November 9th entitled CONTAGTION. Unmerciful in its utter viciousness, CONTAGION takes the band’s signature sound to new levels of backbreaking heaviness. However, underneath the chunky breakdowns and terrifying growls lies a story about absolute power, absolute corruption and the evil that exists when everything is put together. “Contagion surrounds the listener in a story of a highly contagious epidemic purposely spread upon the population by corrupt positions of power” says vocalist, Adam Warren. “Contagion’s concept further unfolds as the agenda of these actions are exposed and the real chaos ensues.”

Take one look at the track list and fans will get a brief taste of the destructive tale to be unfolded on CONTAGION:

05. The Contaminated
06. Exist In Confinement

Cradle Of Filth – new video blog

Cradle Of Filth – Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa

New video blog added to www.peaceville.com/cradleoffilth

A new video of Cradle Of Filth discussing their forthcoming album Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa is now streaming on the album’s mini-site at www.peaceville.com/cradleoffilth. The album is released through Peaceville Records on the bands own AbraCadaver imprint on November 1st 2010.

In the new video Dani and the rest of the band discuss the recording process, the meaning behind the title, the album artwork and more. In addition to this the mini-site features also info about the album, a gallery featuring new band pics and elements from the album artwork, a link to download a MP3 of the track Lilith Immaculate, downloads and more. The site is being updated on a weekly basis with new video blogs, fan competitions, promo videos, an Iphone app, new downloads and more. From September 22nd we shall also be adding previews of a different track from the album every Wednesday.

Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa is the bands ninth studio album and in the words of Cradles infamous frontman Dani Filth is without doubt the fastest and most brutal album we’ve created to date. As an acquaintance of the band so aptly noted, this is like Iron Maiden on crack in a graveyard of angels!

This album is Cradle at our most sinister and darkened fairytale, continues Dani. A gothic horror themed slay-ride of fervour and perversion; yet amidst the orchestral melodrama and lush, cinematic production, there sits stalwart a ravening beast of furious riffing, flesh ripping vocals and monstrous, unstoppable percussion.

Grammy nominated Cradle of Filth have been pioneers of extreme music since their debut in 1994 and have continued to evolve with each of their subsequent releases. Unafraid of ruffling a few feathers, the band have continually refused to bow to convention or to conform to prevalent trends and fads. Yet despite this uncompromising stance the band are still the most successful British heavy metal band since Iron Maiden, with legions of fans around the globe.
Never shy of embracing the epic, Cradle have constantly sought to push the boundaries of their art. Whether through elaborately theatrical stage shows (incorporating giant lumbering puppets, fire-breathing dancers, freaks and stilt-walkers from the notorious Circus Of Horrors), provocative merchandise (including the now legendary Jesus Is A C*** t-shirt), breathtaking artwork or the weighty subject matter of their albums (their previous one was a concept album telling the story of a French Lord who fought alongside Joan Of Arc, before embarking on a horrific killing spree), this is a band who have refused to be confined by the labels that have been placed on them.
The band (comprising of Dani Filth-vocals, Paul Allender and James McIlroy-guitars, David Pybus-bass, Martin Skaroupka-drums and Ashley Ellyllon-Keys) recorded Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa, the follow up to 2008s Godspeed on the Devil’s Thunder, at Monkey Puzzle studios near Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk. Cradle of Filth remain stalwarts to the satanic horror ethos by again composing a fully blown concept album, this time based on Adam’s first wife, the lascivious Demoness Lilith; throwing Medieval nuns, Knights Templars, Greek mythology and lashings of sex, occult lore and violent bloodshed into the smelting pot, to create a darkly erotic nightmare set to their unique scope of supreme vampyric metal. And with an as-near-as-dammit release date of All Hallows Eve 2010, Cradle of Filth are snarling at the leash to get out to all of their fans across the world. We can’t wait to play this shit live, admits Dani. Long live the Filth!

ENSLAVED COMMENT ON UPCOMING NORTH AMERICAN TOUR WITH DIMMU BORGIR

September 16th, 2010
by EvilG

Progressive/psychedelic Norwegian black metal band ENSLAVED will soon be returning to the western hemisphere as direct support for fellow countrymen DIMMU BORGIR.  The 32-date “Darkness Reborn World Tour” across the U.S. and Canada launches on Friday, November 5th in Worcester, Massachusetts and ends Tuesday, December 14th in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada.  The tour includes Blood Red Throne and Dawn Of Ashes.  ENSLAVED’s new album, Axioma Ethica Odini, is scheduled for release in North America on September 28th.

Nuclear Blast caught up with rhythm guitarist/songwriter Ivar Bjørnson and bassist/vocalist Grutle Kjellson to ask a few questions about the upcoming trek:

There are THREE Norwegian bands on ONE North American bill. Why does this tour make SO MUCH SENSE?

IVAR BJØRNSON: “Norway has always offered a varied selection of extreme Metal bands – something this bill clearly showcases!  There seems to be a two-way affinity between Norwegian musicians and North American listeners, and we’re sure this tour will solidify this bond.  We’ve known DIMMU since the early days and are sure we’ll have a blast on the road with these guys!”

Will ENSLAVED be playing any new North American markets that you haven’t played in before?

GRUTLE KJELLSON: “We will be playing in some areas that we´ve never been before, and we are particularly looking forward to perform in Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver in Canada. We´ve only been playing in Ontario and Quebec before, and we always meet some fans that travel a long way from other provinces in Canada when we are playing in Toronto and Montréal. It will be nice to travel around a little bit more in Canada, too + the metalheads there are really nuts!!  Heh, heh.  Also, we have never been to Las Vegas and I´m looking forward to see [lead guitarist] Ice [Dale] go apeshit with gambling.”

Given that you’ll be supporting your new album, Axioma Ethica Odini, what sort of process will the band undertake to come up with a set list?  Will it be democratic, totalitarian, via dictatorship, or a coupe?

IVAR BJØRNSON: “ENSLAVED has a unique form of internal government; we call it ‘Contributocracy.’ The more you know about something (example: playing drums, singing, writing lyrics), the more your vote counts in questions directly relating to your field of ‘expertise.’ This is also adjusted by the good old ‘effort’ measurement: If you take time off from your hobbies / social life and work hard with preparing a tour, you will have more to say in the decisions made for that tour. We have a few guys in the band that really know a lot about the live-format (particularly Ice Dale and Grutle) from their life-long interest in live albums, videos, and going to shows, so perhaps they have a little more leverage in our discussions; we know they know what they’re talking about. Then there’s the labor of planning and execution; that’s where my vote gets fattened up, heh heh.”

You’ll be touring during the holidays.  Any requests from family members or friends for U.S. or Canadian souvenirs?

GRUTLE KJELLSON: “Maybe I´ll buy my father a Canadian Police uniform? Or a Boston lobster hat? That would really be something, huh? Last year I got him an Elvis shirt from Graceland and he seemed to enjoy that one. Well, let´s hope they do not ask for full size statues of John Candy in bronze or a ‘Build Yourself A Washington Free Mason Temple Kit.”  I would rather prefer CDs, vinyl, books, etc.  Father, are you reading this?”

Confirmed “Darkness Reborn World Tour” dates are:

Ray Gillen BLACK SABBATH’s Eternal Idol to be Released – FOR REAL!

September 16th, 2010
by EvilG
Ray Gillen

Ray Gillen

The below news was posted to the news page of the ultimate Black Sabbath fan site:

I’ve been running this site now for a little over 15 years. In all that time, I get a LOT of requests for bootlegs and whatnot. I generally don’t participate in that stuff, since I do not have time for it. However, it doesn’t stop people from asking. And in all that time, by far the thing I’ve been asked by people if I can send them is the version of the 1987 album “The Eternal Idol”, but with Ray Gillen on vocals.

A short story: After just a handful of dates on the 86 Seventh Star Tour, Glenn Hughes was let go, and Ray Gillen was brought on board. He finished the tour, and work began on the next album, and it was mostly completed. But Ray Gillen left to found the very under appreciated band Badlands (with Eric Singer also from Sabbath), and this left Black Sabbath with a mostly completed album, and no singer. Tony Martin was brought in, and re-recorded all the vocals in two weeks. The album came out with Tony Martin, and the only remaining bit of the Ray Gillen original vocals was some laughter in the track “Nightmare”.

The original Ray Gillen version has been traded in bootleg circles for ages now, but no more! I almost fell over when I was told this news..

TONY IOMMI HAS GIVEN PERMISSION FOR THE RAY GILLEN ETERNAL IDOL ALBUM TO BE RELEASED – FOR REAL!

NOTE: The cover art shown here is NOT the cover art that will be on the final release - that's the bootleg cover art.

NOTE: The cover art shown here is NOT the cover art that will be on the final release - that's the bootleg cover art.

I actually said the the record label guy who told me about this, “Holy shit – are you kidding me?” It’s for real folks. This is the latest entries in the multi CD expanded series of Sabbath remasters that have been released over the last year or two. The most recent ones were the early 80’s Dio albums. That left Born Again, Seventh Star, & The Eternal Idol to go. (Headless Cross through Forbidden were on IRS, and are a separate record deal – which I’m told will eventually happen too). Anyway, the next two albums to be released are going to be Seventh Star & Eternal Idol. Born Again I’m told is not until 2011 sometime, but it will be happening (I’m told with a proper mix, too – but it’s still being worked on).

Anyways, about Eternal Idol. The first disc is the album we’ve known for awhile, with the additional tracks “Some Kind of Woman” & “Black Moon (demo)” included. That’s Disc 1. Disc 2 will comprise the Ray Gillen Eternal Idol album. I mean, WOW. That’s like stupid exciting news!

I’m told the two CD releases of Seventh Star & Eternal Idol will be released on October 25th. As these are Universal releases, that means they won’t be released domestically in the US. But this shouldn’t matter. You should run screaming for this Eternal Idol release when it comes out. It’s a seriously underrated Sabbath album anyway, and to get the Ray Gillen version as well?? Oh yeah, it should be an autopurchase. Even if I wouldn’t get one for free from the label for running this site, I’d be there on day one to buy it for myself.

NOTE: The cover art shown here is NOT the cover art that will be on the final release – that’s the bootleg cover art.

Seventh Star News: This isn’t all about Eternal Idol, there’s a refresh on Seventh Star as well. The first disc of Seventh Star will include the album we know, as well as the remixed version of “No Stranger to Love”, which appears in the music video of the same. Amazon UK’s site lists a second version of that, but I’m not aware of there being more than one remix on there.

Disc 2 however, is a live concert. It was recorded on June 2, 1986 and has Ray Gillen on vocals. After all this time, some heavy duty love for the Ray Gillen incarnation of Black Sabbath. You should buy both of these the second you can.

This is some seriously exciting news. Sadly, they aren’t being released in the US, but the price in the UK isn’t prohibitive, you should have it shipped here to the US. There are supposed to be official press releases out on these shortly, I’ll make sure and pass them along when I get them.

The Eternal Idol is available for pre-order at Amazon.co.uk right now. Click here to be taken to that page where you can pre-order it. Likewise, the two CD of Seventh Star is available for pre-order as well.

Paiste's Artist Spotlight: ACCEPT drummer Stefan Schwarzmann

With their current comeback album ‘Blood of Nations’, Accept are about to top their success back in the 80’s, when Accept was the most important Heavy Rock Band coming from Germany besides the ‘Scorpions’. Long time Paiste Artist Stefan Schwarzmann (since 1988) proved once again what an outstanding Metal drummer he is, which keeps him busy now touring the States and Japan, following a very successful Summer European Tour.

Stefan already was the drummer for Bands like Running Wild, Skew Siskin and U.D.O. (and for Accept from 94-97), just to name a few. When Accept in their original line-up was disbanding in the late 80’s, Stefan joined forces with Singer Udo Dirkschneider and became a member of Udo’s Band U.D.O. for many years to come. However, Stefan’s drumming is not limited to Metal drumming. With the ‘Duo Mystica’ as well as the ensemble ‘Dirrekt’ and several other groups he discovered the diversity of rhythms from all over the world. Improvisations on all kinds of percussion instruments dominated this phase of his career.

Helloween and Krokus were the next Bands in Stefan’s impressive career until rumors about a Accept reunion proved to be true. With new singer Mark Tornillo, Accept recorded their new album with producer Andy Sneap. The excellent production and the songs speak for themselves. Great reviews all over the world and the chart entry in Germany at Nr. 4 as well as top ten chart entries in most of European countries, make this album a great success.

Stefan’s drumming can be described as powerful, hard and super precise. Check out Stefan and Accept on the current US tour.

World Renowned Extreme Metal Drumming Sensation, Tim Yeung, Checks In With Morbid Angel Report, New Signature Snare and Merch Package

September 16th, 2010
by EvilG

Tim “The Missile” Yeung (Divine Heresy, ex-All That Remains, Nile, Hate Eternal, Vital Remains) is finally getting the notoriety he so greatly deserves upon landing a very coveted gig tracking drums on the much anticipated new Morbid Angel album.

Yeung checks in with the following report: “Hey everybody. I haven’t posted an update in awhile so I thought that I should share with everyone what I’ve been up to lately. As many of you know, I have been working with Morbid Angel for the past 10 months (Pete Sandoval is recovering from a recent back operation). I must say that it has been a huge honor to be playing for one of my favorite bands that I grew up listening to as well as filling in for one of my biggest metal drumming inspirations. I’m currently in Tampa, FL finishing up the new album with David (vocals, bass) and Trey (guitars) and it’s going great. Overall, I think it may be one of their most well rounded albums ever. There are killer experimental electronic parts, as well as some really cool groove parts. Don’t worry there is plenty of blast beats and blazing double bass as well.

“I’ve also been working on a Ddrum signature snare which will be out early next year. It’s a 14×6.5, steel shell, flanged hoops, USA tube lugs, etc. This drum is absolutely perfect. I’ve been beating on the prototype and I’m in love with it. I also have been working with 3rd Degree merch on a Tim Yeung package which includes a T-shirt, my personal sticks and an autographed poster.
“If you are interested head over now to http://thirddegreemerch.com/band_store_detail.php?id=832&band_key=103. There is a limited supply, so don’t wait around.”
