The Scumdogs of the Universe are sharpening their axes and stoking the fires of their great war engines in preparation for the fall 2014 GWAR Eternal Tour. Global leaders had hoped the bouts of terror accompanying GWAR‘s annual rampages would finally come to an end with the passing of the group’s monstrous captain, Oderus Urungus. But tonight politicians, religious leaders, and citizens around the world are asking, “Why?! Why won’t GWAR just leave the Earth in peace?”
The band’s toothsome guitarist, BalSac the Jaws of Death had this to say: “Something is wrong, unspeakably wrong. It feels as if the very fabric of reality has been ripped from belly to taint. And it all centers around Oderus’ disappearance. One moment, life is fantastic, as we celebrate the near sinking of Japan as a result of our recent journey across the Pacific; and the next, he is just gone. Suddenly the world is a dark, vile place with hordes of trolls biting at my hooves and daring to spit poison in my face. There is a great evil behind this, and I will not rest until I know what has become of my brother!”
The fall season sees a handful of releases from FnA Records, one of the leading “re-issue” labels on the scene. Everything we release comes from the heyday of the 80’s and early 90’s hard rock scene.
The newest release for this fall is Naughty, But Nice by Knoxville/Nashville Rockers JUSTIN HEAT. JUSTIN HEAT was formed when Hard Knox bassist Don Murray teamed up with local rocker Mark West in 1986. One of the interesting things about the Naughty, But Nice release is that it features 3 different singers, who came from 3 different incarnations of the band. Most notable, Rick Ruhl, who would later go on to form EVERY MOTHER’S NIGHTMARE sings on 5 of the tracks. Gene Hadley, from Hard Knox sings on 2 of the tracks, and Robert Leath sings on the rest. Drummer Jim Phipps, who also went on to be in EVERY MOTHERS NIGHTMARE plays drums on the majority of these songs. JUSTIN HEAT were definitely one of the hometown heroes who were just a smidgeon away from getting signed by a major label. Naughty, But Nice features 19 tracks, including 3 live tracks, an alternate take track, and an instrumental track. Do yourself a favor and check these guys out atwww.FnARecords.net.
Two monster releases on the roster are by the New Jersey band KIDD SKRUFF. KIDD SKRUFF started as a side project for then Lead Singer/Guitarist Jimmy Forest who was performing with the popular New Jersey band “PUSH” in the late 80’s and early 90’s. At that time, Jimmy was the Drummer/Songwriter for “Push”, and had a plethora of musical ideas that he wanted to express but they just didn’t quite fit the style of his current band, so KIDD SKRUFF was born. They had that well defined New Jersey sound like Skid Row and Bon Jovi. The first album released is entitledAngels With Dirty Faces, a 10 track album comprised of high quality recordings and demos which were only sold in cassette form back in the day. The second album entitled Perfect Disaster is another solid 10 track release in the vein of Skid Row. The album includes a 2014 version of the fan favorite “Best Friendz”. KIDD SKRUFF was a fan favorite of the New Jersey rock scene for many years. If you are a fan of Skid Row, definitely check out KIDD SKRUFF.

Dublin’s finest metal exports, PRIMORDIAL, will release their long-anticipated new studio album, “Where Greater Men Have Fallen“, later this Fall via Metal Blade Records.
Commended by Pitchfork for their meticulously composed “folk and black metal-inflected classic metal that spirals and extends and, somehow, keeps getting bigger,” and crowned the, “most vital heavy metal band on the planet,” by Last Rites, “Where Greater Men Have Fallen” serves as the followup to PRIMORDIAL‘s critically-adored, 2011-released “Redemption At The Puritan’s” Hand full-length and boasts some of the band’s deepest, most meticulously composed compositions to date. The eight-track, fifty-eight minute epic was tracked at Grouse Lodge in Dublin with Jaime Gomez (Cathedral, Angelwitch, Grave Miasma).
Singer A.A. Nemtheanga elaborates: “Some time at the end of 2013 we sat and began to plot a course for album number eight. We moved camp to a new rehearsal room and the ideas began to take shape. We felt it was time to try a new studio and engineer so we went to Grouse Lodge deep in the middle of Ireland and employed Gomez to come over and work on the new album.” The band’s idea was, of course, to keep the PRIMORDIAL trademarks intact while incorporating a broader, heavier more organic sound. “We feel revitalized, the hunger never left and we are ready for another chapter to be written in our history!”

Currently in the midst of a successful US run with Theory of A Deadman, FOZZY announce “THE CINDERBLOCK PARTY TOUR” a headlining run in support of their new single and title track of their most recent album, Do You Wanna Start A War.
After a busy year with intense studio sessions as well as incessant international touring activities, UK Grindcore legends NAPALM DEATH have checked in with an update in regards to their much anticipated next album release. Vocalist Mark ‘Barney’ Greenway had the following to say:
“When we say that we’ve been working on the album recording for nearly a year, people might be thinking that this all sounds a bit too extravagant for Grindcore-type behaviour. The full story is though that we’ve been recording it in segments to try and achieve varying types of sonic assault. There is a belief in certain quarters that you can only do so much with our particularly noisy strain of music. We think otherwise, so as well as a few stylistic quirks on the album (that are sometimes happy accidents), generally it’s rawer, perhaps a little looser and of course always dense, nasty and, hopefully, invigorating too. Certainly not more polished – yuk!
Russ Russell helped us to give lots of people headaches down the years. He doesn’t mind us adopting certain, erm, techniques with studio equipment that most producer-engineers would find somewhat distasteful. So back we went again with Russ to Parlour Studios in the comparatively serene surroundings of Northamptonshire to do damage. There’s possibly some of the fastest and spazziest stuff we’ve ever done and, on the other end of the scale, some of the weirdest, most oppressive and adventurous no-wave-type stuff too.
Some song titles for you to chew on: “Copulating Snakes”, “Dear Slum Landlord” (aired at Roadburn 2014), “What is Past Is Prologue”, “Stunt Your Growth”. We’re nearly finished – we promise!”
In August of this year, from the Main Stage at Bloodstock Festival, UK melodic extreme metallers Bloodshot Dawn announced mid set that their new album was to be entitled ‘Demons’ and would be released on 26th October. The band then went on to debut a brand new song called ‘Smoke and Mirrors’. Today that very song is being unleashed to all as it features in the brand new Bloodshot Dawn music video.
Reactivated Seattle metal band, SANCTUARY, has released the video to their track, “Frozen”, which was filmed in Germany and directed by Dirk Behlau. The track comes off their upcoming album, The Year The Sun Died, which is due out October 6th in Europe and October 14th in North America via Century Media Records. To watch “Frozen”, click the link below:
Guitarist Lenny Rutledge comments: “This video shoot was a blast. The location was an abandoned coal mine processing plant near Essen, Germany. You can see many bizarre birdcage size baskets hanging from the ceiling. There were thousands of them. We were told that they were some type of ‘laundry management devices’. They appear as something much more creepy and ominous in my opinion. Almost as if they were some sort of medieval torture devices. The entire building seemed to have a very haunting vibe.”
STARKILL are set to release their second album VIRUS OF THE MIND on October 14 and will be doing a run of shows with label mates ARCH ENEMY starting in later this month. The band has just completed a video directed by Dave of Music Media Group (Sevendust, Butcher Babies) for the song “Before Hope Fades” and it’s streaming now on the Century Media YouTube channel. LORD ANNOUNCES NEW RELEASE ‘THE DUNGEON ERA’ BOX SET
Australian melodic metal masters LORD have announced their latest box set release ‘The Dungeon Era‘ comprising of all 4 official Dungeonalbums (Resurrection, A Rise To Power, One Step Beyond and Pariah) re-recorded with the current band and modern production. The release is also accompanied by a USB ‘all access’ pass packed with retrospective Dungeon nostalgia as well as digital versions of the re-recordings and remix/remasters of the original releases.
Slated to be released November 1 to coincide with their appearance at the ‘Steel Assassins True Metal Festival‘ in Sydney, the band has announced exclusive pre-orders for fans through their online webstore.
Commented by Lord Tim:
“From a business point of view, we are doing this to regain control of our rights and make sure the writers of these great songs get their well-deserved time in the spotlight. Due to labels folding or not really getting behind these albums the first time, a lot of this material was lost in the background noise. This release gives us the opportunity to give these songs a second chance, and hopefully for the ex-Dungeon members who wrote a lot of this material to see something back for all of their amazing work. From an artistic point of view, while we’ve been proud of everything we’ve ever done and it was the best we could do at the time, there was always a desire to hear this done not just “as good as we could do” but “exactly as we always imagined it.” Due to budget or technology restraints, there was always a level of compromise. This release answers the question: “What if it wasn’t like that?”
And from a continuity point of view, we really consider Dungeon to be the first era of the band we’re currently calling LORD. We still play the Dungeon back-catalogue live, and now with this being Dungeon’s 25th anniversary, it was a good opportunity to expose new fans to these awesome old songs, and formally unite both eras of the band.”
