The Haunted have returned with THE DEAD EYE, their second album since reuniting with original vocalist Peter Dolving. The new album may surprise some, but not those who listened closely to their previous album, rEVOLVEr. We talk to Peter about the new album’s sound, direction, and lyrics; his recent infamy thanks to his blogging on Myspace; touring; and of course his "love" of shredding…ha! Enjoy!

Rowan Robertson
Interviewed by Crashtest

Rowan Robertson made a big splash on the international metal scene in the early 90s when, at the tender age of seventeen, he assumed the lead guitar duties in the legendary Dio. Rowan’s subsequent work on the LOCK UP THE WOLVES album was jaw-dropping and proved to the metal world that he belonged on it’s stage. During the tour in support of that album, he again proved himself more than worthy to follow in the footsteps of Vivian Campbell and Craig Goldy. When Ronnie James Dio rejoined Black Sabbath to record DEHUMANIZER, many in the metal community lost track of Rowan’s musical pursuits. I had the opportunity to catch up with Rowan recently and talk to him about his new band, the Los Angeles-based band DC4. In addition to Rowan, DC4 features Jeff Duncan (Armored Saint, Odin) on lead vocals and guitars, along with brothers Matt Duncan on bass and Shawn Duncan (Odin, Bird of Prey) on drums.

By Brat, Jacobo and Arto Pics by Brat, Arto and Toni “Eldiablo” Salminen
Brat: It was a year filled with tradition as the 17th Wacken Open Air offered us something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.
Old bands came in from hard and long slogs, reunions and reformations—Scorpions, Mortal Sin, Celtic Frost, Carnivore, Morbid Angel, Ministry and Rose Tattoo.
Organisers introduced a compulsory 15 Euro metal bag filled with handy goodies (a blow up drink holder, raincoat, torch and of course, garbage bag, in a lightweight drawstring bag that doubled as a mini backpack) printed with the longhorn logo in an attempt to reduce the garbage left on the campsite at the end of the festival. In theory, when you returned a filled garbage bag to the depot, 5 Euro was refunded, but somehow our car didn’t seem to receive the mystery token which “authenticated” the garbage, depriving us of our 5 Euro “deposit”. The new overbridge connecting the festival and press areas constantly tested people’s sobriety. If nothing else, my butt and leg muscles got a great workout over the three days.

THERUPY is the name of the new Kottak album that’s out in stores now. Kottak is named after the bandleader and frontman James Kottak but the band went earlier under the name Krunk and with the new bandname there were a few line-up changes going on so when opportunity showed up I took it and interviewed James Kottak about his band and new album.
