Florida based death metal legends MALEVOLENT CREATION have revealed the artwork from their upcoming 11th studio outing entitled Invidious Dominion. The cover art was brought to life this time around by renownedartist Pär Olofsson (THE FACELESS, IMMORTAL, ABYSMAL DAWN).
“Pär Olofsson was recommended to us by our label manager, Gerardo Martinez, and after checking out some of his work we knew he was our guy,” commented the band. “Our initial thought was to have a world in chaos and destruction, or an Invidious Dominion, which then led us to remember the Ten Commandments album cover, and how cool it would be to have the demon make a return appearance but from a frontal view! Pär‘s totally brutal interpretation couldn’t have exceeded our expectations any more! We are stoked with his work and can’t wait to see it on a bunch of cool merch and more than likely everyone in the bands skin!”
Invidious Dominion was produced and recorded by Erik Rutan (CANNIBAL CORPSE, VITAL REMAINS, KRISIUN, GOATWHORE) at Mana Studios in Florida and will be released on August 24 in North America via Nuclear Blast. Watch a video clip of the recording process:

WHOLE LOTTA LOVE: An All-Star Salute To Fat Chicks
Twisted Sister guitarist Eddie Ojeda has joined the roster of the upcoming tribute album “WHOLE LOTTA LOVE: An All-Star Salute To Fat Chicks.” Eddie appears in conjunction with his solo project Eddie Ojeda’s Band of Steel, featuring vocalist Andre Vanchot (X Factor X, Joe Stump), bassist Chris McCarvill (Dokken, House of Lords, Jeff Scott Soto) and drummer B.J. Zampa (Dokken, House of Lords, Yngwie Malmsteen). Eddie and company contribute a new incarnation of the Spinal Tap favorite “Big Bottom,” a tongue-in-cheek tribute to the well-padded posterior. “Big Bottom” is infamous for featuring three separate bass parts (bass, lead bass, rhythm bass) with no guitars whatsoever. A bass-centric tune with a lot of low end, it’s a bottom-heavy ode to the bottom-heavy girl. A sample of the song is now available at the official “WHOLE LOTTA LOVE” MySpace page: http://www.myspace.com/WholeLottaLoveTribute
“When I was first asked if I wanted to cover ‘Big Bottom,’ I thought it was a joke! I mean, why would you ask a guitarist to play on a song with no guitars?” commented a bewildered Eddie Ojeda. “That’s like hiring Dee Snider to record a song and then telling him not to sing on it! I just figured I’d stumbled into an easy gig, since my band would end up doing all the work. In the end, I did find a way of adding my own personal touch to the song, while also being respectful to the bass-heavy sound of the original.”
“It wasn’t hard playing all three bass parts,” added Chris McCarvill, “but it was hard playing them all at the same time. There has to be an easier way to do this!” The exhausted McCarvill then passed out from his exertions and declined to comment further.
“Remember, you can’t spell BASS without ASS!” remarked singer Andre Vanchot, moments before dropping trou and mooning hapless bandmate B.J. Zampa.
Summing up the band’s collective pride in the finished product, Ojeda beamed, “I think our version is absolutely killer. On a scale of 1 to 10, I give it an 11!”
Game Features a Skull that Eats your Ball and Spits it Out Through its Eye Socket
LOS ANGELES, CA – June 22, 2010 — One of heavy metal’s most respected and influential bands, Slayer is about to enter the “app age” with the launch of Slayer: Pinball Rocks, a new pinball game app developed in conjunction with American Recordings/Columbia Records, Sony Music Entertainment and Gameprom.
“As a life-size pinball player, this looks so awesome,” said Slayer’s Kerry King. “It looks really fun and entertaining, with a shot of evil, and it could definitely keep me up all night with a few shots for myself…”
Slayer: Pinball Rocks continues the rich legacy of iconic metal and rock bands making pinball tables, and for the first time extends that experience into the app world in a meaningful way, by offering fans an exciting and realistic gaming experience that immerses players in Slayer’s legendary sound and dynamic visual aesthetic.
Slayer: Pinball Rocks appeals to both long-time and new Slayer fans, as well as any pinball enthusiast, by giving gamers multi-ball play and full tap-along mini-game, as well as exciting visual elements like spinning razor blades, guitars, amps, concert lights, and a skull that eats your ball and spits it out through its eyeball. And of course, this is all accompanied by music that rocks courtesy of Slayer.
“We are excited to be premiering the Sony Music Pinball Rocks franchise with one of the great metal bands of all time,” says Matt Kozlov, Vice President, New Products and Services, Global Digital Business, Sony Music Entertainment. “We think fans are going to love this exciting new way to live the Slayer experience.”
Slayer: Pinball Rocks is available worldwide for $2.99 from the App Store or at www.itunes.com/appstore/ . The game will include original voiceovers from Slayer members as well as songs from Slayer’s latest American Recordings release, World Painted Blood. Slayer – guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, bassist/vocalist Tom Araya, and drummer Dave Lombardo – is currently on a massive European tour that includes several Sonisphere Festival dates where they are performing as part of the “heavy metal dream” Big Four – Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax. Slayer will return to North America in late July to co-headline (with Megadeth) the east coast Canadian Carnage tour, and then, starting August 11, the American Carnage tour. Slayer’s entire summer tour schedule can be accessed at www.slayer.net.

Ash clouds, however metal and majestic they might be, put a stop to our planned U.K. tour back in April. We started working on scheduling new dates immediately, and now we are ready to go! ENSLAVED is a band that enjoys being on the road like nothing else; we do take pride in being a hard working and increasingly energetic and focused live band. Vertebrae also won Terrorizer Magazine’s coveted “Album of the Year” award for 2008. Other “Best of 2008” rankings include:
North America’s progressive metal gods SYMPHONY X have recently entered the studio to begin recording drum tracks for the band’s Nuclear Blast debut and follow-up to 2007’s Paradise Lost, tentatively due before the end of the year. According to the band’s webmaster, “[guitarist] Michael J. Romeo said that the drums and most of the rhythm guitars are all recorded. At the moment, they are fine-tuning the lyrics and melodies, during which time Russ [Allen] will also be recording his vocals.”
SYMPHONY X guitarist Michael J. Romeo has previously gone on record to say this about the group’s new material: “We have over an hour of really good stuff that we really dig; there’s more than enough stuff there that we can choose the best songs to go on the CD… but all of the songs are really strong. One is shaping up to be 10 minutes plus. I think everyone will like it. It has a little bit of everything.”
While SYMPHONY X is busy working on their new album, fans are encouraged to submit questions for the band’s soon-to-be-updated FAQ section of their website. Send questions in to email@example.com with “FAQ” in the subject line.
SYMPHONY X are also asking their fans to submit names of bands they’d like to see tour with/open for them. Send your suggestions to firstname.lastname@example.org with “Tour Suggestion” in the subject line.
Formed in 1994 in New Jersey, SYMPHONY X has seven studio albums and one live album to their credit. Their discography has sold 170,000 copies in the U.S. alone.
Sacrifice '87 - Japan: L to R: Akira Sugiuchi (vocals), Kazuo Nonaka (guitar), Takashi Yazaki (bass), Masanori Kawakami (drums)
Still cited as influences by the younger generations (you can find Joel Grind of TOXIC HOLOCAUST having this album pictured on his MySpace!), this masterpiece of Japanese Heavy Metal by SACRIFICE will finally be available on CD for the first time in July. “Crest Of Black” was originally released in 1987 on Explosion Records, then home for bands like SABBRABELLS, DOOM and JURASSIC JADE, for a limited quantity of 1000 copies. Since then, it’s been a highly sought-after item for metalheads all over the world. Some of the music can be heard on the band’s unofficial MySpace site.
This long-awaited official reissue will also feature two bonus tracks, taken from the band’s self-released demo from 1986. Distribution outside of Japan of this SACRIFICE CD will be helped by SPIRITUAL BEAST.
The founder and singer Akira Sugiuchi is still in the singing business, fronting SOLITUDE who has released a new album “Brave the Storm” earlier this year. Check them out on their MySpace
One of metal’s most intriguing, ominous and immensely talented figures, the mighty Devin Townsend, is extremely excited to announce that for the first time in his solo career he will be embarking on a headlining tour. This will be a special evening exploring a 15 year musical journey with Townsend performing songs spanning his entire vast catalog. Supporting acts will be announced soon along with East Coast shows, but see below or visit www.myspace.com/devintownsenddtb to view the initial headlining tour itinerary.
Addicted was released in Nov. 2009 and has become his fastest selling solo record in his career. Townsend is currently working on two new albums for 2011. The new, mind-blowing offering, Addicted, was met with worldwide critical praise and scored very impressive first week numbers debuting at #168 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and #2 on the Billboard Heatseakers chart.
Townsend further states: “Sitting here at the airport after months of preparation for the European festivals, getting this material ready to be heard the way it’s meant to be heard has been a pretty mean task. Last night’s epic rehearsal was one of those moments when you realize the work put into making it right results in an awesome sound. I have been given the opportunity now to bring this music to North America in my first ever solo headlining tour. It’s not a huge tour, but I really would appreciate seeing some of the familiar faces and hopefully some new ones as well. It’s cheesy to announce your touring plans as ‘the biggest or best’ of anything, but I love this music, we’ve worked really hard to get it right. If you’re one of the folks that dig it, then this should be a great, heavy and fun time that sounds the way it should.
“I’m honored to be able to play for you after all these years. There’s a ton of great tours coming up, and here is my contribution. Rock the fuck out, stay positive.”

North Carolina doom brigade, BLACK SKIES, who announced their US tour throughout July earlier this month have added three more confirmed dates to the trek. Those dates include June 12 at Jambalaya in Arcata, CA , June 19 at The Nightmare in Dallas, TX and July 21 at Checkpoint Charlie’s In new Orleans, LA. Updated tour itinerary below.
The band will hit the road with a new lineup, new songs and a high energy live display of sonic power they’ve built their name upon. Founding members Kevin Clark and Michelle Temple will be joined by ex-Des Ark drummer Tim Herzog. Former roommates, Kevin and Tim have remained in contact over the years and are very much looking forward to the opportunity to finally make music together. BLACK SKIES’ new material retains the heaviness of their earlier work, with more dynamic song structures and a psychedelic edge creating a more interesting overall sound. Following the tour, the band will begin preparations for recording what they hope to be their best release to date.
Says guitarist Kevin Clark of the upcoming trek: ” We’ve had our share of ups and downs over the past 12 months, but getting out west last year was without a doubt one of the better moments. We are thrilled to be heading out there again this summer, seeing the faces and places that made it such a blast. We played with a lot of great bands and met a lot of awesome souls with a true love and hunger for music. Those people are a big part of the drive for us to continue doing what we love to do, and we are eternally grateful for them.”
