SCARRED BY BEAUTY to release their debut album ”Sutra”

April 8th, 2011
by EvilG

The acclaimed Danish five-piece SCARRED BY BEAUTY releases their debut album ”Sutra” in Germany/Benelux June 10th 2011 and in the rest of Europe June 13th 2011.

After the Danish release of the acclaimed debutalbum “Sutra”  the Copenhagen five-piece SCARRED BY BEAUTY has been touring as a co-headliner on the NEW ERA TOUR, which included 11 dates of the finest venues all over Denmark. Check out the tour diary pt. 1 here, pt. 2 here, pt. 3 here and pt. 4 here. The date is now set for the European takeover. “Sutra” will be released in Germany/Benelux June 10th 2011 and in the rest of Europe June 13th 2011.

SCARRED BY BEAUTY was formed in 2006 by the brothers Dennis and Daniel Leszkowicz and the childhood friend Jonathan Albrechtsen (former Hatesphere singer). SCARRED BY BEAUTY won at the Danish Metal Awards 2009 in the category “Talent of the Year”. The band’s debut album “Sutra” follows in the path of their previously released E.P “We Swim”, and clearly shows how SCARRED BY BEAUTY has grown and developed new sides to their music. On “Sutra”, the band combines a range of various styles, in a new and playful way. From pounding punk and hardcore passages, into vast and melodic landscapes the band mixes noise rock, metal and core genres with minimalistic lyrics, in a graceful, unique and refreshing way. “Sutra” stands as a solid and personal product from a young and ambitious band. In 2010 SCARRED BY BEAUTY played both a Danish and a European tour, and have supported Gojira in Copenhagen as well as Berlin.
In total SCARRED BY BEAUTY stands as a strong new name, ready to advance to the international level. The band’s passion is undeniable, and combined with their commitment to take SCARRED BY BEAUTY to a higher level it seems there is no stopping this Danish five-piece.

SLAYER – Dave Lombardo

April 8th, 2011
by Arto Lehtinen

SLAYER – Interview with Drummer Dave Lombardo

Interview by Arto Lehtinen and Marko Syrjala

Slayer has been in the frontlines of thrash metal and extreme metal for nearly four decades. Several classic songs such as Hell Awaits, Raining Blood, South Of Heaven, Dead Skin Mask, Cult etc are immortal and present a well oiled metallic war machine pushing forward relentlessly and show the brutality of thrash metal. However, the thrash metal machine needs a powerful inexhaustible source of intense drumming to create the well-known Slayer tempo. Dave Lombardo is definitely at the core of the unique sounds of Slayer. Despise his absence from Slayer, his role in the world of Slayer has become, and still is, an important part of Slayer. had the great pleasure to have a moment with Dave Lombardo.

Pathology: Slam Bloody Gore

April 8th, 2011
by EvilG

Pathology: Slam Bloody Gore

Interview by Shawn Jam Hill

In the metallic world, some of the most brutal heaviosity can also be the silliest. Nobody can deny the greatness of Cannibal Corpse, for example, but their bloody disgusting lyrics detailing zombies, necrobutchers, plagues and,um, being raped with a knife are slightly less genius than the heavy riffosity at hand.

When I first heard San Diego’s Pathology, the crushing death grunts of vokiller Matti Way were a) totally indecipherable and b) totally awesome. But I figured they were treading the same blood-soaked waters as their Corpse-Grinding peers. Turns out I was completely wrong. When delving into the lyrics printed in the liner notes of the band’s exceptional new album Legacy Of The Ancients (Victory), I found a trove of stories detailing conspiracy theory, giants called the Nephilim who will rise and conquer mankind, freemasons and the inevitable coming of a reptilian race all set to a blistering slam-metal soundtrack rife with sick riffs and Dave Astor’s (ex The Locust) dizzying percussive mastery.

This ain’t your average bunch of heshers.

I recently caught up with new vokillist Jon Huber, a 26 year old super-mellow dude from the Northwest who just happens to love crushing slam. Just like Mark Wahlberg in that classic movie Rock Star, which is loosely based on Tim “Ripper” Owens’ ascendancy to the top of the heap as Halford’s replacement in Judas Priest, Huber loved Pathology, tried out for the vokill vacancy and got the gig. Here’s my quick chat with a very astute and well spoken rocker who enlightened me on the perils of living in a van and the travails of a slamming death metal band on the road for perpetuity.

AMORPHIS – New single and major TV appearance

April 7th, 2011
by EvilG
Amorphis - You I Need

Amorphis - You I Need

The digital single “You I Need” will be released in Finland on April 20 and in other countries on April 22. The song will be premiered on the Amorphis Facebook page and various radio stations on Monday, April 11.

On Easter Sunday, April 24, Amorphis will participate in the charity gala Idols tekee hyvää and perform the new song for a large TV audience (MTV3, 19:15). The proceeds of the event, which brings the popular American format Idol gives back to Finland for the first time, will be directed to education projects for children and teenagers in poverty-stricken countries such as Haiti and Cambodia.

Amorphis recently revealed the title and artwork for their upcoming album. The Beginning Of Times will be released at the end of May (27th, via Nuclear Blast).

The tracklist is as follows:

‘Battle For Light’

‘My Enemy’

‘You I Need’

‘Song Of The Sage’

‘Three Words’

‘On A Stranded Shore’

‘Crack In A Stone’

‘Beginning Of Time’

‘Heart’s Song’ (digipack bonus)

The new album is the most challenging Amorphis album so far in terms of both music and lyrics. Its central character is the iconic hero of Finnish mythology, Väinämöinen, whose tale has been masterfully retold by lyricist Pekka Kainulainen.

The Beginning Of Times was produced by the band; vocals were recorded under the guidance of Marco Hietala in his home studio in Kuopio. Like its predecessors, the album was mixed by Mikko Karmila. Its cover artwork shows Travis Smith’s magnificent interpretation of the mythological birth of the world from a goldeneye’s egg.

In June, Amorphis will embark on the extensive The Beginning Of Times tour, which is scheduled to continue through 2012.

April 7th, 2011
by EvilG

“There’s No Sign Of The Morning Coming, You’ve Been Left On Your Own, Like A Rainbow In The Dark”- RJD

There will never be another Ronnie James Dio but we wanted to keep his music alive!

Dio Disciples are:

Simon Wright (AC/DC, Dio, UFO, Michael Schenker Group and Rhino Bucket) has played drums in Dio since 1990’s “Lock Up The Wolves” album.

On guitar is longtime Dio member Craig Goldy (Rough Cutt, Giuffria, David Lee Roth, Dio) who made his Dio debut on 1985’s “Sacred Heart” album.

On keyboards is 15 year Dio and Heaven & Hell veteran Scott Warren. Scott made his Dio debut on 1996’s “Angry Machines” album.

On bass is the multi-talented James LoMenzo (Megadeth, Black Label Society, Slash’s Snake Pit, HAIL!, White Lion and David Lee Roth).

On vocals is Tim “Ripper” Owens (Judas Priest, Yngwie Malmsteen’s Rising Force, Beyond Fear, Iced Earth, Hail! and Charred Walls of the Damned)

Joining “Ripper” on vocals from Manchester, UK is Toby Jepson (Little Angels, Fastway, Gun and Toby and the Whole Truth).

Because of Rudy Sarzo’s commitment to B.O.C., James LoMenzo will join the band for their European dates until Rudy fulfills his commitment to Blue Oyster Cult

We hope that you will support the band and become a Dio Disciple!

After a successful world tour with more than 100 concerts all over the globe in support of their latest release “Tinnitus Sanctus” in 2008, Edguy have entered the studio to record a new album. Still under the influence of their arena tour as special guests of “the Scorpions” and the latest “Avantasia” world tour (featuring Tobias Sammet and Felix Bohnke), Edguy feel it’s about time to squeeze their energy on tape in a recording studio again. This time the band has chosen the famous Peppermint-Park in Hannover (Scorpions, Phil Collins), according to the band ” a recording temple with a tremendously great sounding room”.

Tobias comments: “We have chosen the Peppermint Park to record the basics there. I had done a few little bits and pieces for Avantasia there, but it’s so great to record drums and stuff like Hammond B3 with a big bad fat mean Leslie there. The room is big and the sound is mean! We were always striving for a powerful but natural sound. I guess we had a good sound recently, but I think there is always room to improve. The more I listen to what’s going on in the Heavy Metal world these days, the more I long for drums that sound like drums. I want them to sound powerful without sounding like Atari. Sascha and I came to the conclusion that we have to start from scratch and do things the way they have to be done, not the fashionable way. I don’t want a distorted master-copy, just so it is loud enough on an iPhone or on PC-speakers. If you talk to your most fancy producer he will say something like: “Well, it’s the sign of the times, you have to be able to compete in the loudness war…” What the fuck?! If I want it to be loud I turn up the stereo. I want dynamics, room, a real big sound, not that distorted trendy compression. Why don’t we all move back a little and record great sounding music, not loud sounding music? Do a Google search for “loudness war” and you’ll see what I mean. Whatever, the new songs sound great, we have thirteen of them, and we’ll pick maybe ten and put them on the album. We have anthemic melodies, although it’s not kitsch. When you record anthemic music, you tend to be dangerously close to kitsch, it’s a fine line and I think we balance on that fine line pretty well. To cut a long story a little insignificantly shorter: I just think it is great, and that’s what counts. Real music, you know? We’ll keep you informed, if you want it or not! 😉

– Tobi

Canadian heavy metal trio CAULDRON have released a brand new music video for the track “All Or Nothing”.

CAULDRON filmed the official video recently in the band’s hometown of Toronto with director KEVIN MACALLISTER.  The track “All Or Nothing” is taken from the band’s new album, BURNING FORTUNE.

Watch the official “All Or Nothing” music video now:

CAULDRON frontman JASON DECAY discusses the video:

“The video is basically a concentrated day, or a final straw in the life of Cauldron.  We based the concept around the lyrics of the song, which is a bit of an ongoing theme with Burning Fortune.  We went for a bit of an edgy type of music video rather than the same old thing ’cause we figured we wouldn’t get played on TV anyway.

“It was directed by Kevin MacAllister who normally does videos for Lush Cosmetics.  We got hooked up through a friend who used to work there and just went for it.  Ian’s scene is actually shot at the Lush factory in Toronto…”

CAULDRON will be joining HOLY GRAIL for a North American tour starting on April 15th.  CAULDRON will be supporting HOLY GRAIL on all US dates, but due to an overwhelming demand from their Canadian fans, the band will co-headline each date and play a longer set each night while in their homeland.
