Lethal monsters from outer space, frozen inside Antarctica for millions of years and defrosted in the 80s due to the hairspray fumes from hair metal fans? Or “only” a band from Virginia with a stageshow even crazier than the music? Either way, Gwar have released twelve albums since 1988, most recently last year’s “Bloody pit of horror”. Their sound has varied, with influences from punk, Frank Zappa-like experimentation and, obviously, brutal metal. The latter ingredient dominates the Gwar sound of today. Other important components of the Gwar concept is the mixture of explicite genitals-related humor (beware of fluid-spraying from the stage) and, indeed, political commentaries. Plus “murders” of objectional individuals – don’t be surprised if you see someone like Mr. Lordi get “executed” on stage during Gwar’s SRF debut. An experience you won’t easily forget!

RAM – New album mastered!

March 3rd, 2011
by EvilG

The yet untitled new RAM album has been mastered by Dragan Tanskovich at Bohus Recordings and is ready for release. RAM are currently in negotiations with a number of record companies concerning the release of the new album.

Oscar Carlquist, vocals has the following to say about the new album:

Again we are pushing the envelope of the RAM sound, this album differs quite a bit from our 2009 release “Lightbringer”, the sound is rawer and has a strong nerve and honest live like feel but still it is extremely powerful it was produced by me and Harry Granroth (guitars) and Per Stålberg and Olle Björk and recorded at Welfare Studios here in Gothenburg, Dragan Tanskovich is also a huge part of this by contributing massive power in the mastering process.

Songwise we are showing new sides of the band, the album is a 10 song sonic rollercoaster displaying an array of  different styles, emotions tempos and agressions but all within the concept of traditional Heavy Metal of course. In all honesty I can’t choose one single song that is representative of the sound of the album as a whole. We are really pleased with this album that feels like a really cool direction to take from Lightbringer and we can’t wait to blast these new song live!

SYMFONIA – Vocalist Andre Matos

March 3rd, 2011
by Arto Lehtinen

Symfonia. Does that name of the band ring any bells out there yet? Maybe not for everyone as Symfonia is basically a new band on the metal map. But behind Symfonia there are well known names and persons involved in the band. When unveiling names such as Andre Matos, Timo Tolkki, Uli Kusch, Jari Kainulainen and Mikko Harkin it is quite obvious the interest toward this five piece may increase tremendously. The team had an nice and pleasant task to witness the debut show of Symfonia at the Finnish Metal Expo. After the show we were lucky enough to have an opportunity of doing an interesting and in-depth interview with vocalist Andre Matos regarding the birth of Symfonia, Avantasia, and plenty of other topics including Symfonia’s future activities. Ladies and gentleman, the first Symfonia interview here at

KAOTEON released through the much respected OSMOSE PRODUCTIONS their debut album “VENI VIDI VOMUI”.

VVV was recorded and mixed at Mixdown Studios in the bullet-scarred city of Beirut, while mastering took place at Unisound studios (Sweden) by none other than Dan Swanö (BloodBath, Unicorn, Edge of Sanity, Diabolical Masquerade, Pan.Thy.Monium, Nightingale, Katatonia, etc…).

Osmose states:

“Forged in the Middle East where Terror and War never rest; the Lebanese Extreme Black/Death Metal band KAOTEON brings forth their first full length record with Osmose Productions to blast your ears and damage your minds. This kaotik opus is titled Veni Vidi Vomui, which translates to I came, I saw, I vomited.

KAOTEON’s full length is a statement of anger and disgust towards civil wars, terrorism, invasions, sectarianism, and deceit. These themes are dissected throughout their lyrics to project Lebanon’s daily life.

Several bands wrote about the ripping political and religious instability in the middle east but KAOTEON lives it to this day. From Shrieks, Low Grunts, and High Pitched vocals to fast and mind blowing blasts, this is a not to miss record for every Extreme Metal fan that enjoy uncompromising metal riffs.

This is going to be an unmatched statement of hatred. Zero tolerance.”

Words from the band: “Expect nothing but utter brutality, unseen anger and solemn disgust. The black hearted beast of KAOTEON is back and will burn everything that stands in its way, for the fires of hell rages within our hearts.”

“Imagine the blasting sound of supernovae compressed on a disk to serve as the soundtrack for the end of this wretched universe – This is what Veni Vidi Vomui sounds like!”

1. Veni Vidi Vomui

2. Jihannam Wa Bi2sal Massir

3. Wartimes

4. Hateforged Retaliation

5. Provenance of Hatred

6. Anthem of the Dead

7. One by One (Dogs Heed the Call)

8. Decrepitude

9. Wrenched

Vogg with Malta @ Soundboard

Vogg with Malta @ Soundboard

Polish technical death metal band DECAPITATED continue their work at Radio Gdańsk Studio in Poland recording their Nuclear Blast debut and follow-up to 2006’s Organic Hallucinosis.

Guitarist & founding member Wacek “Vogg”Kiełtyka checks in once again from the studio:

Hi Everyone,

We are half-way through with guitar tracking. All is going according to the plan and in a few days we are starting with the bass. The guitars sound heavy yet very selective. I must admit we have come up with a very original sound that in my opinion resembles ‘black storm clouds.’  Heinrich [bassist] is coming to the studio the day after tomorrow and we will crack on with the bass then. Malta is a very demanding engineer and he is controlling the whole situation meticulously. The new material is beginning to take its shape and it is getting more and more interesting. Take it easy folks!”

Preliminary song titles used for the recording sessions include:

-Riff 1 Clean
-Fast One (Need More!!!)
-7 Idea
-Witek Idea
-Chilis Assasin
-Clean Song

DECAPITATED’s fifth studio album is being produced by Wacek Kiełtyka and sound engineered by Malta Arkadiusz Malczewski.  Drums have been recorded with Daniel Bergstrand (BEHEMOTH, MESHUGGAH, DIMMU BORGIR, KEEP OF KALESSIN, DEFLESHED), who is also handling mixing duties.  The band will be self-releasing the new album in their native Poland.

DECAPITATED’s line-up includes: Wacław “Vogg” Kiełtyka on guitar, Kerim “Krimh” Lechner (Thorns Of Ivy, Tone Intimacy) on drums, Rafał Piotrowski (Ketha, Forgotten Souls) on lead vocals, and Filip “Heinrich” Hałucha (Vesenia, Rootwater, Unsun, Masachist) on bass.

Most well-versed metalheads will be very familiar with the Rods and their contribution to heavy metal. Such classic albums as 1981’s ‘The Rods’ and 1982’s ‘Wild Dogs’ fit perfectly in with the sound of the burgeoning “New Wave of British Heavy Metal” scene (despite the fact that the Rods were New York natives!), and resulted in shows with such big-time acts as Iron Maiden, the Scorpions, Twisted Sister, and Ozzy Osbourne, as well as taking a then-unknown Metallica out as support on the Rods’ first headlining tour.

Now, Texas fans will be able to not only catch the Rods in full concert flight, but also get to the meet the band at a record store appearance. On March 19, the band (singer/guitarist David “Rock” Feinstein, bassist Garry Bordonaro, and drummer Carl Canedy) will be performing, meeting fans and signing merchandise at Cheapo Records in Austin at 11:00 am. Then, later in the evening (10:15 pm, to be exact), the band will be performing at Rusty Spurs in Austin (as part of the SXSW Festival).

May 10 will see the official release of ‘Vengeance,’ a recording that includes the first single “The Code,” featuring lead vocals from Feinstein’s cousin, Ronnie James Dio (which was one of the very last songs Ronnie ever recorded, before his passing last year). ‘Vengeance’ will be released via the Niji Entertainment Group, and comes hot on the heels of Feinstein’s recently-released solo album, ‘Bitten by the Beast.’ 2011 also marks the 30 year anniversary for this veteran metal band.

As renowned Quiet Riot/Ozzy/Dio/Whitesnake/Blue Oyster Cult bassist Rudy Sarzo remembers, “The Rods opened up for Ozzy during the 1981 ‘Blizzard Of Oz’ tour. I was blown away by their no holds barred metal onslaught performance and became an instant fan!” With a full US tour planned for the summer, fans will soon be able to experience the mighty metal of the Rods first hand themselves.

Mastiphal confirms release date of „Parvzya” and first live show in India!

March 2nd, 2011
by EvilG

Musicians of black metal act Mastiphal set the release date of their new effort entitled “Parvzya” for 15th May 2011. In Sweden’s Necromorbus Studio (Watain, Funeral Mist, Destroyer 666) the band has just finished working on all new songs which will be featured on „Parvzya” The album was mixed by Sverker “Widda” Widgren.

„We were working for almost one year on the new songs. But we didn’t want to rush things up. „Widda” is a patient guy, who took our opinions into consideration during final mixing. Previously the album was to be released in autumn, but fortunately there was no pressure from the label’s site, which trusted and supported us. Thanks to those conditions we’re now for the first time fully satisfied with our work. In the 90’s we definitely didn’t have such comfortable conditions. This time the album sounds perfectly and reflects fully what we’re capable of” – comments Flauros, band’s singer.

„Parvzya” will be released by Witching Hour Productions on 15th May as exclusive digibook CD and gatefold LP.

Mastiphal also recently confirmed their appearance on “The Underground Unleashed” festival, which will take place in September in Darjeeling, India. During three days’ festival fans will have the chance to see another Polish band, dark metal Darzamat, one of the headliners together with American Incantation. The festival will take place between 30th September and 2nd October.

New in the line-up are second guitarist Daamr, with whom Flauros cooperated in Darzamat and InDread Cold, bass played Oppressor and drummer Senator.

Mastiphal recorded 11 new songs. However only 9 of them will be featured on CD version. One extra track was recorded exclusively for vinyl version, another one for special compilation entitled Silesian Black Attack. – This compilation features most important black metal bands from our region. For this album every band (among them as well Besatt, Furia, Massemord or Throneum) will record one new song. The release date is also set for 2011 – adds Flauros.

Mastiphal together with Christ Agony, Behemoth and Graveland, is one of the oldest black metal bands in Poland. In September 2009 Witching Hour Productions released retrospective double CD entitled „Damnatio Memoriae” which contained all recorded Mastiphal releases from the past. The band returned to stage activity this year playing two shows with Mayhem, first after over a 10-year break.

Current Mastiphal line-up:

Flauros – vocal

Daamr – guitars, bass

Oppressor – guitars, bass

Cymeris – guitars

Senator – drums
