Evile 2010

Evile 2010

British thrashers EVILE are set to enter the studio this weekend to begin recording their third album.

EVILE will be playing a show in London this Friday, 18th March with CHTHONIC, before heading to Prestatyn, Wales on Saturday for a performance at Hammerfest.  The band will then be heading into Parlour Studios on Sunday to begin recording the follow-up to 2009’s INFECTED NATIONS, and will once again be working with producer RUSS RUSSELL (NAPALM DEATH, DIMMU BORGIR).

EVILE lead guitarist OL DRAKE comments:

“This has been one hell of a 2011 already.  We’ve been working non-stop on the material for Evile’s third album since early last year, and the past few months saw the workload pile up drastically.  We’re on top of it though.

“Tomorrow we play London with our friends Chthonic from Taiwan, then we head over to Prestatyn for Hammerfest.  Just like with Infected Nations, we’re again heading to the studio shortly after playing Hammerfest, though this time it’s the very day after.  To the great Parlour Studios we will venture along with the even greater Russ Russell.  He was at the helm/desk/brain for ‘Infected Nations’, and we see him as a member of the band, even more so on this third offering.  We’ll be in there for approximately a month, and we’ll be focusing on roughly ten tracks to delight your ears.

“If I was to say what the direction of this third album would be, I’d have to say a mix of the approach to ‘Enter the Grave’, the ideas on ‘Infected Nations’ and an amalgamation of brand new ideas we can’t wait to try out.  We have to try out new things as artists; we don’t ever ever want to stick to doing the same thing all the time.  It will be aggressive yet mature, in my opinion, and before your ask – yes, fast.”

Catch EVILE live at the following shows:

March 18 – London, UK – The Underworld
March 19 – Prestatyn, UK – Hammerfest
June 10-12 – Donington, UK – Download Festival

WRETCHED Debut Music Video, Embark on Exodus of America Tour

March 18th, 2011
by EvilG

Near the beginning of the ‘Exodus of America’ tour, WRETCHED have debuted the video for “My Carrion.” WRETCHED may have begun as a jam band in 2005, but Steven Funderburk (guitar) and Marshall Wieczorek (drums) knew the first time that they played together there was a strong connection. Throughout the past few years, the band has progressed in awareness of music theory and composition, allowing them to create distinctive, quality music. “We always make sure our songs and music are structured very well and are carefully thought out,” states Funderburk, “we put feeling and soul into our music.”

This is no more evident than in their new video for “My Carrion.” The band brings vicious guitar solos, masterfully crafted drumming, and commanding vocals to the desert – allowing nothing but the ripping musicianship to shine. WRETCHED’s Beyond The Gate is available on Victory Records.

KALAMAZOO, MI – Michigan-based black metal group, Winterus, has announced an April 26th release date for its Lifeforce Records debut, In Carbon Mysticism, a record the band hopes will push the boundaries of black metal further than ever before, by creating a genre-defying psychedelic landscape built upon pummeling metal textures.

“We expect this album to change the way metal is heard from ear to ear,” said vocalist, Christopher Erich Neu. “With an honest delivery, including three live tracks, you can feel the passion of ever-maturing musicians that strive for something new and brilliant.”

In Carbon Mysticism consists of six studio tracks and three live recordings. The record was self-produced and engineered last winter in Battle Creek, MI, and mastered in Los Angeles by Maor Appelbaum (Cynic, Therion, Rob Halford).

“We wanted a lo-fi, self-produced sound, not polished and strict or hiding behind Pro Tools,” added Neu. “Sonically, it’s a very honest approach.”

Artwork for In Carbon Mysticism comes courtesy of Joshua Davis, an artist the band had previously worked with, who was able to help achieve the simplistic and calm atmosphere Winterus was looking for.

“From the start we want people to understand the uniqueness of not having a flashy MySpace layout displaying unnecessary tweets about what a member is eating at what restaurant. As it is almost a necessary handle, in the same sense it feels out of touch.”

The track list for In Carbon Mysticism is…

01. Lone Wolves

02. Reborn

03. No Rest

04. Harmonious

05. Moonlust

06. Eternal Ghost

07. Christ Reign (recorded live)

08. Dusk Unveils (recorded live)

09. Through The Mist (recorded live)

Winterus originally formed in December 2009 under the name The Ancient, and quickly released an EP, ‘A Frozen Path’, in May 2010, which led to its signing with Lifeforce Records.

In Carbon Mysticism sees the band further developing its blackened death metal with a subtle atmospheric edge, drawing influence from such acts as Immortal, Enslaved, Napalm Death, and Nachtmystium.

The forthcoming album combines dark and intense atmospheres with unbridled attacks of grim and raw attitude dealing with themes of brutal honesty, isolation, philosophy, and real human emotion.

Stay tuned for more information on Winterus and In Carbon Mysticism, and be sure to tune into: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B87AAV5zf6Y for even more background on the exciting new group.

Winterus is…

Christopher Erich Neu – vocals

Nathan Barnes – guitar

Dominic Simmons – guitar

Cody McCoy – drums

That Sweden is one the most important countries when it comes to black metal should be well known for most heavy metal-connaiseurs – but if you’ve missed out on this fact Nifelheim, formed in the small town of Dals Långed in 1990, are as good as evidence as it can get. The band’s original take on the genre gets its inspiration both from classic heavy metal as well as from old school black metal-acts such as Bathory, Tormentor and Master’s Hammer. They’ve released four albums, with “Envoy of Lucifer” from 2007 being the latest. Nifelheim visited us in 2004 and have since been one of the most requested re-runs of their genre. With an odd, original sense of melody, uncomprising, raw vocals and unusally catchy songs considering their style their gig well most definitely be a highlight at this years festival for any fan of black metal.

No Gravity release debut album ‘Worlds In Collision’ released

March 18th, 2011
by EvilG

No Gravity

No Gravity

No Gravity are a new progressive power metal outfit and the brainchild of renowned guitarist Simone Fiorletta. Their debut release ‘Worlds In Collision’ features some of the most illustrious vocalists in the power/prog metal field and sees release on Lion Music on 18th March 2011.

Conceived in early 2010 from the ashes of Italian progressive metallers Moonlight Comedy, Simone Fiorletta’s intention was to enclose in a single album the best singers of the Power/Prog world with each track tailored for each vocalists individual style; and what a selection of vocalists No Gravity have enrolled!

With Andy Kuntz (Vanden Plas), Michele Luppi (Killing Touch, ex Vision Divine), Fabio Lione (Rhapsody Of Fire, Vision Divine), Mark Basile (DGM), Roberto Tiranti (Labyrinth) and Emiliano Germani (Moonlight Comedy) providing the vocal angle this release makes a serious statement of intent from this new band.

The No Gravity line-up is completed by an equally skilled band. In addition to Simone Fiorletta’s virtuoso guitar work we have second guitarist Davide Perruzza, keyboardist Andrea De Paoli, bassist Andrea Casali and drummer Marco Aiello who all form a formidable unit with instrumental prowess and the delivery to rival the genre’s big names.

Lion Music celebrates 300th release on 15th April 2011 of Lars Eric Mattsson’s “Aurora Borealis”

March 18th, 2011
by EvilG

Lars Eric Mattsson - Aurora Borealis

Lars Eric Mattsson - Aurora Borealis

Marking Lion Music’s 300th release, guitar virtuoso / composer Lars Eric Mattsson returns with the ultimate neo-classical experience in which metal and rock guitar, bass and drums meets classical music for the harmoniously rich ‘Aurora Borealis’.

This new wholly instrumental 12 track release takes a fresh approach to the blend of guitar and orchestra for a musical experience as uplifting as seeing the wonder of the northern lights, from which the album gets its title.

Whilst the combination of orchestra and guitar may have been done before by amongst others one of Mattsson’s influences Uli Jon Roth; ‘Aurora Borealis’ takes the range of sound and expressions further that what has been heard before and places as much emphasis on each tracks backing as with its guitar work. The result is a highly captivating and listenable experience. Lush in textures and timbres, ‘Aurora Borealis’ comes across at times like a film score; sometimes fast and exotic whilst at others sweet and luxurious. Many moods are covered and all of which see Mattsson deliver impassioned guitar work in his own inimitable style.

Mattsson made a big point during the albums compositional stage to deliver an album that could theoretically be performed live within the right setting. To achieve this there is only ever one guitar heard at a time, sometimes playing the lead part but not always. Lars Eric Mattsson comments, “I tried to compose the music with enough variations and the right flow from start to end and keep things listenable by using the right arrangements”.

To ensure his guitar would work as cleanly as possible with the orchestral parts Mattsson kept his signal chain as pure as possible with only the occasional wah pedal between guitar and amp (with some delay and reverb added in post production). The result is a clean sounding release with strong dynamics and a wide tonal palette.

Despite its relative complexity ‘Aurora Borealis’ may well be easier on the listener than some of his previous vocal progressive metal releases such as 2010’s critically acclaimed ‘Mattsson – Tango,’ although Lars concedes with a smile, “It might sound less complex though I am not sure it actually is!”.

As a final comment when asked to sum up the new release Mattsson responds, “Classical music and rock has been mixed before with various results but never this way, I tried to create something very unique and I don’t think it’s fair to label this as just another instrumental guitar album”.

‘Aurora Borealis’ sees Lars Eric Mattsson almost halfway through his third decade in the music business with a new release that is testament to his vision and appetite to ever expand his musical horizons and does so in fine style.

‘Aurora Borealis’ sees release on Lion Music on 15th April 2010.

AERIAL RUIN Sign With Vendlus Records; East Coast Dates With Agalloch This Week

March 18th, 2011
by EvilG
Vendlus Records is proud to announce the confirmed release of Portland, Oregon-based AERIAL RUIN’s upcoming full-length album Valleys Of The Earth, set for official release on April 26, 2011.

AERIAL RUIN is the solo project of Erik Moggridge, formerly of Bay Area rockers Old Grandad, Drift of a Curse, Epidemic and other heavy West Coast acts within the metal and rock spectrums, though the mesmerizing output of AERIAL RUIN is vastly different than his previous acts. Here, Moggridge focuses on beautiful, minimalist, organic passages in a very stripped-down singer/songwriter approach. Crisp acoustic guitars and harrowing layers of clean vocals combine in an engulfing culmination of simplistic, atmospheric bliss.

In support of the album’s coming release, AERIAL RUIN will be joining Agalloch and Worm Ouroboros on a trio of East Coast tour dates, hitting Raleigh, Baltimore and New York City this week.

AERIAL RUIN East Coast Dates:
3/20/2011 King’s Barcade – Raleigh, NC w/ Agalloch, Worm Ouroboros
3/21/2011 Sonar – Baltimore, MD w/ Agalloch, Worm Ouroboros, Vindensang
3/22/2011 Le Poisson Rouge – New York, NY w/ Agalloch, Worm Ouroboros

Full album details and promo copies of the new album Valleys Of The Earth will be available shortly. Stay tuned for further updates on the album and more AERIAL RUIN  live appearance to be announced shortly.

GRAVE DIGGER – Euro Tour Line-up Changed

March 18th, 2011
by EvilG

We’re very sorry to tell that GRAND MAGUS and SISTER SIN have been forced to cancel their attendance at the GRAVE DIGGER European tour.

Because of deep vein thrombosis, GM drummer Sebastian had to enter the hospital together with a strict stage veto. A substitute could not be found within this short period of time. And finally, 2 weeks before tour start, the financial tour
calculation of SS has been blown away as well … So, until yesterday, we’ve been left alone without any tour support.

But we’re lucky to tell that we’ve found an equal value act named ORDEN OGAN, who will take the slot of GM for the complete tour dates. The alternate for SS will be the band DOWNSPIRIT, who will enter the stage for 8 shows. Mastermind of this band is Cede Dupont, some of you might know his name by former activities with acts like Freedom Call or Symphorce. Some shows will be supported by local acts as well.

We worked pretty hard to get the package together with GM on the road, so you can imagine our disappointment regarding this sad news. But of course all of you, especially the lads and lasses who saw our performance at the Wacken Open Air 2010, know that GRAVE DIGGER is the pure force and a guarantor for teutonic German metal at it’s best!

We’ll stretch out set for a few more songs to give you the final smash, so nobody will return home disappointed.

Metal On

NeraNature reveal new details on the debut album

March 18th, 2011
by EvilG

Nera, the vocalist of the Polish metal band Darzamat, reveals new details on her forthcoming debut solo album “Foresting Wounds”, which will be released under the moniker NeraNature by Metal Mind Productions on the 9th of May. Earlier, in April, a radio single entitled “Shattered” will be released to promote the album, along with the cover song “The World is Not Enough” from the repertoire of Garbage.

NeraNature was founded by Nera in 2009. The project appeared as a space where the air is filled with matters lingering in her head, a bit more intimate, private and sometimes bizarre and freakish. “I’ve been waiting for a long time for the right place and time to find an outlet for my personal thoughts and beliefs. This is the time and place” – explains Nera.

The name of the band is a combination of two words: Nera, the nickname of the vocalist, and Nature, referring to a reflection on a deep connection with the environment. It can also be interpreted as the nature of Nera – a diversity of views reflected in the songs. The feminine character of lyrics imbued with the feminist outlook on life constitutes one of the most significant elements of the projects, touching upon such issues as man’s detachment from nature and running away from himself/herself.

The debut album entitled “Foresting Wounds” contains 11 compositions. Today, Nera reveals its tracklist:

1. Shattered

2. Precious Now

3. The World is Not Enough* (Garbage’s cover)

4. Woman Soul

5. Oblivion

6. Broken

7. Disappointed

8. Some Air

9. Scar

10. Before

11. Dormant

12. Someone

On THIS Youtube website you can find a short trailer promoting the album.

OZ were formed in Finland in the late 70’s and between the years 1982 and 1991 they released five albums and the cult single “Turn the cross upside down”. The band were praised by the metal community, but their catchy brand of heavy metal never managed to break through to the mainstream consciousness. And then they met that same destiny that so many of the acts that later would come to get up on the stages at Sweden Rock Festival: the bands line-up fell apart, problems with the record label arose and the music scene changed, all while the band would, or could, not evolve. During the renaissance of criminally underrated, genuine heavy metal, that we have seen during the last few years OZ have been discovered by new generations of headbangers; giving classics like “Search lights”, “Black candles” and “Turn the cross upside down” a new lease on life.  2011 sees the band return with the single and video for new the song “Dominator” and the quintet (with classic members Ape De Martini, Jay C Blade and Mark Ruffneck in the line-up) performing their first gigs since their return.

LAZARUS AD - Black Rivers Flow

LAZARUS AD - Black Rivers Flow

LAZARUS A.D. is the most recent casualty in a slew of unfortunate band robberies to claim theft of their personal items and money from their touring van. The incident took place last night in Southampton, UK. After breaking a window to enter the band’s van, the burglars stole roughly $1,500 in cash, all of the bands personal items including Social Security cards, birth certificates, and clothing, and even their personal hygiene items. The band members luckily had their passports in their pockets and their gear inside the venue; otherwise they fear that those items would have been taken as well.

LAZARUS A.D. have many dates remaining on their tour with Bonded By Blood, so having no money or personal items will be a great strain on the band financially and personally. A PayPal donation link has been set up in order for fans to donate to the band in this time of need. Please head to this link to donate what you can spare: http://lazarusad.com/?p=280.

See below for all upcoming European tour dates and please consider donating to LAZARUS A.D. so they can finish spreading their message and metal to their fans in the UK. Any help is sincerely appreciated.

DEATH WOLF: The Death Of One World And The Birth Of Another

March 18th, 2011
by EvilG

They formed in the year 2000 under the moniker DEVILS WHOREHOUSE by Marduk guitarist Morgan Håkansson and Hrafn from another local band. After releasing the highly acclaimed albums Revelation Unorthodox and Blood & Ashes as well as the Howling and Werewolf EPs, the band felt it was time for change as the music and philosophy behind the orchestra had outgrown its name. The end of one world and the birth of another.

The band now continues under the name DEATH WOLF symbolizing the strength, dedication and will shown in its creations. The band recently completed the recording of its upcoming full-length filled with Northern end themes and death hymns. Cold steel over the world’s throat. The band can also proudly announce its first live appearance which will be taking place in June at the Wave-Gotik Treffen in Leipzig, Germany on June 12. Track list, release date info and samples from this imminent release will be unveiled in the coming weeks.
