You could say that Anthrax has made the metal comeback of the year. After the veteran band of East Coast thrashers stood poised to release their first new album in seven years, their then-vocalist Dan Nelson abruptly left the band leaving Anthrax’s launch date for their new record on ice. When the band was invited to perform as part of the "Big Four" concerts during the Sonisphere Festival, Joey Belladonna returned to Anthrax’s lineup for a third time and will now be re-recording vocals for the as yet unreleased new album, tentatively titled "Worship Music". A CD/DVD box set comprised of all four sets from the bands that make up the "Big Four" (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax) will be released in early November. Presently the band are performing nightly to sold out arena’s on a bill headlined by Slayer and Megadeth, dubbed the "Jägermeister Fall Music Tour" and referred to by longtime die-hard fans as "Clash of the Titans 2" You will not want to miss this epic billing when it comes thrashing to a concert stage near you.
Drummer/Vocalist/Bassist of Therion, Dimmu Borgir, Mercyful Fate, King Diamond & Dream Evil
Interview by Lord Of The Wasteland
Snowy Shaw is a veteran of the heavy metal wars. Since first surfacing with King Diamond back in 1989, to his tenure with Dream Evil, Therion and briefly Dimmu Borgir earlier this year, Shaw’s multi-instrumentalism and ever-broadening artistic vision have kept him busy both in the spotlight and behind the scenes. Despite his wearing many hats, Shaw has always remained a unique and interesting character.
This interview, conducted initially to showcase Snowy Shaw’s joining Dimmu Borgir, was consequently forced to change direction after the rather sudden announcement that Shaw was leaving Dimmu Borgir and re-joining Therion. This shift was even more confusing given the fact that both bands were set to release their latest CDs within days of each other.
As Snowy does his best to diplomatically explain the various moves, it is clear that there is more to the story, but we will have to wait to hear that. In the meantime, enjoy this lengthy chat with one of metal’s more charismatic personalities.
Produced and presented by the team behind cult hit, Heavy Metal Parking Lot (Jeff Krulik and John Heyn), Heavy Metal Picnic is a celebration of mid-80s Maryland rock and roll and heavy metal, by those who lived – and survived – it.
The film focuses on the 1985 Full Moon Jamboree, a weekend field party bacchanal that took place at The Farm, home to a cast of colorful characters who lived and partied alongside unamused neighbors in the McMansions of Potomac.
The Full Moon Jamboree, an affair so raucous that it made the evening news, was the farm party to end all farm parties, and much of it was recorded using a home video camera and a stolen CBS News microphone swiped from the Reagan Inauguration earlier that year.
Twenty-five years later, we revisit the scene and meet people behind the party, as well as the musicians who performed there, including mid-Atlantic doom metal icons ASYLUM.
Details will soon be available in regards to screenings of the film in 2011. Check out a trailer below and find out more about Heavy Metal Picnic at this location.

Paragon Records will unleash the third album from DIMENTIANON, New York’s masters of chaotic metal, on October 19th, 2010. Entitled Collapse The Void, the album epitomizes the turbulent mixture of black, death and doom metal that has become the band’s trademark style.
DIMENTIANON have been a force in New York City’s extreme metal scene since their formation in 1995, the band then known as The Forgotten. With countless regional concerts under their belts, and backed with a solid resume of releases including the band’s fist two full-lengths, multiple demos and a split release with funeral doom merchants Rigor Sardonicous, the DIMENTIANON of 2010 is by far the most powerful expression of the band’s chaotic nature to date. Founding member vocalist Mike Zanchelli has led the unit through many lineup changes, currently rounded out by returning bassist Maureen Murphy, drummer Pete Christopher and guitarist Zoltan Valter (Sectioned).
Collapse The Void was recorded and produced by producer Pete Rutcho (Revocation, Graveheart, Frozen, Ravage) and features five massive tracks;, the shortest being just over three minutes, yet with the two longer tracks running closer to nine minutes. A maniacal yet well-orchestrated display of crushing haunting black/death metal with plenty of unexpected twists throughout, the album will surely arouse interest in any diehard fan of underground extreme metal.
Collapse The Void track listing:
2. Breathe Deep
3. Fragmented Nostalgia
4. The Forgotten
5. All Good Things End
Stay tuned for more news on DIMENTIANON activities to be posted throughout the year and well into 2011. View the cover art for the new album, live footage of the band opening for Marduk and more at this location.

New Jersey/New York’s ILL NIÑO is pleased to announce the release of their highly-anticipated VICTORY RECORDS debut, Dead New World, on October 26th, 2010. The album is self produced with co-production coming from Clint Lowery (Sevendust) and Sahaj Ticotin (RA) and mixed by Eddie Wohl (36 Crazyfists, Anthrax, Smile Empty Soul). Dead New World also serves as the follow up to the band’s critically-acclaimed 2008 release, Enigma.
See above for the newly released album art, illustrated by Tim Butler of XIII Designs (Disturbed, Slipknot, Metallica, Slayer, Michael Jackson). “It was our pleasure to work with Tim Butler, who designed ILL NIÑO’s Dead New World CD cover,” states drummer Dave Chavarri. “We wanted to have a tribal ethnic looking cover, and Tim’s recreation design of a picture of three South American shrunken heads was everything we wanted. The Dead New World cover definitely touches on our ethnic roots and history.”
To date, ILL NIÑO has sold more than 500,000 albums in the United States alone, and over 1 Million albums worldwide. The band has shared the stage with the likes of Linkin Park, Avenged Sevenfold, Korn, Disturbed, Guns N’ Roses, and more! The band plans to embark on a full United States tour this fall, and will head into Asia and South America by the end of 2010! Stay tuned for more tour updates on ILL NIÑO!
ILL NIÑO’s Latin roots run bloody and deep. Their original and refreshing sound covers the gamut of musical influences, including melodic vocals, bilingual lyrics, flamenco guitars, tribal drums, Latin percussion, and salsa-infused bass lines, all while providing a pummeling dose of modern hard rock and metal. ILL NIÑO formed in late 1999 and became the epitome of Latin metal in 2001 with their monster debut album, Revolution, Revolucion. Strong airplay for their first single ‘What Comes Around’ and slots on both Ozzfest, and Jägermeister tours in 2002, helped the album sell nearly 430,000 units worldwide.
In 2003 ILL NIÑO returned with their sophomore release Confession and managed to surpass their debut sales, selling over 500,000 copies worldwide. The success of Confession also spawned the top 10 single ‘How Can I Live’, which became the featured single on the Freddy vs. Jason soundtrack and film. Awaiting the arrival of One Nation Underground in 2005, and equipped with the highly-acclaimed single ‘What You Deserve’, ILL NIÑO landed the #1 Most Added track at Active Rock radio, four weeks prior to the album’s release!
ILL NIÑO shows no signs of slowing down with their plans to dominate and epitomize the forefront of true Latin metal. For more information on ILL NIÑO, please visit these websites:

Hetfield commented, “We’ve gotta do something; there’s no doubt about that. There are quite a few bands that have made it 30 years, but these days, I think it’s getting a little harder to survive 30 years. The fact that we made it 30 years is pretty unbelievable.”

A new In War And Pieces press release reads as follows:
For Tom Angelripper, his thrash metal band Sodom is a perfect vehicle to bluntly take a stand. Like few other musicians on this scene, he personifies – along with down-to-earthiness and honesty – a healthily critical position on political authorities and decision-makers from finance and industry. On their latest album, In War And Pieces, Sodom focus on the worst excesses of power: arrogance, greed, spotlight-seeking, fanaticism, corruption, cowardice and oppression. Tom: “I’ve always written about what’s going on in the world, about the injustice and mistakes that happen everywhere. I know that you can’t change anything politically that way, but I would like to at least comment on the situation and generate an awareness of this deplorable state of affairs. Being a singer in a metal band allows me to voice my anger to a large audience.”
This uncompromising attitude marks the eleven songs on Sodom’s latest album which could hardly sound more dynamic and violent. In War And Pieces owes its bloodcurdling energy largely to producer Waldemar Sorychta (GRIP INC, ENEMY OF THE SUN), whose great skill and commitment were instrumental in creating the album’s – as Tom calls it – “phat, brutal and open” sound. With Sorychta’s support, Angelripper (vocals, bass), Bernemann (guitar) and Bobby Schottkowski (drums) succeeded in adding new impulses to their music without watering down the band’s long tradition. “Waldemar is a great musician himself and has done some brilliant work, especially on the guitar sound,” Tom explains. “He knows how to get the absolute maximum out of a speaker.”
As brutal as the production is the diverse songwriting on In War And Pieces, a kind of tour de force through the whole history of thrash metal, featuring harsh arrangements, melodic solos and raging vocal attacks. “I feel that we sound more contemporary and structured than we did on our recent releases,” Tom analyses. “At the same time, there are also references to recordings such as Persecution Mania and Agent Orange. After Venom, Sodom were the world’s first angry band, and nothing has changed that.” Tom lists as examples the impressive title track, as well as ‘The Art Of Killing Poetry’ with its ultra-deep guitar atmospheres and the German-language song, ‘Knarrenheinz’, which holds up the tradition of classics such as ‘Bombenhagel’ and ‘Ausgebombt’.
“Knarrenheinz is the mascot on the album cover, that’s why I felt he deserved his own lyrics,” Tom grins.
Talking of album covers: the artwork was designed by Eliran Kantor, who enjoys an excellent reputation on the scene thanks to his work for renowned acts such as TESTAMENT, GWAR and MEKONG DELTA.
EPICA To Release 'This Is The Time' Digital Single
“This Is The Time”, the new single from Dutch female-fronted symphonic metallers EPICA, will be released digitally on October 15. A video for the song, which was written for the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), was filmed in March was in Hilversum, The Netherlands and can be viewed below.
For more than 45 years, WWF has been protecting the future of nature. The world’s leading conservation organization, WWF works in 100 countries and is supported by 1.2 million members in the United States and close to 5 million globally. WWF’s unique way of working combines global reach with a foundation in science, involves action at every level from local to global, and ensures the delivery of innovative solutions that meet the needs of both people and nature.
Commented EPICA: “The awareness that we should be more careful with the earth, increases every day. We should also try to live in closer harmony with nature. EPICA is lyric-wise strongly connected to these themes and would like to devote themselves to this cause for a better world!”
Added WWF’s Jörgen van Beem: “WWF’s mission is to stop the degradation of our planet’s natural environment, and build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature. A planet where people and nature can thrive together, in a stable environment, now, and for generations to come. For more than 40 years, WWF has been at the forefront in protecting the Amazon and are therefore enthusiastic that EPICA decided to raise funds for the Brazilian forest programs of WWF, which ensure conservation and sustainable development throughout the world’s largest rainforest.”
