I.C.S Vortex Returns To BORKNAGAR

April 22nd, 2011
by EvilG

I.C.S Vortex officially announce his return to BORKNAGAR. To mark this grand cooperation between Vintersorg and ICS Vortex, Norway’s Inferno Festival is announcing that Borknagar will headline the 2012 edition with both vocalists on stage.

Over the past months, there has been a wide array of rumors and speculations about I.C.S Vortex’ involvement with Borknagar, so now it’s time for us to bring this out from the dungeons and into the plains of clarity: Vortex is back as a permanent member of Borknagar. Vortex will handle the bass as well as doing vocals together with Vintersorg.

Borknagar is confirmed to next year’s Inferno Festival, doing a rare concert with both these renowned singers on stage. You will also find the band signing autographs at this year’s Inferno (tomorrow – Saturday, April 23rd at 20:00)

ICS Vortex was reintroduced to Borknagar in 2010 after a ten-year break with his participation on Universal as guest vocalist, and also stepped up to help out the band on a tour of South America that was later canceled. After this, the rumors and speculations have been many, and here is the confirmation that so many have hoped for.

I.C.S Vortex comments: “I am chuffed and proud to be part of the Borknagar universe once again. Hailing the dawn of a new era, I lionize their splendorous glare ”

Øystein G. Brun comments: “Even though Mr. Vortex has been absent from the band for almost a decade due to other musical endeavors, he has always remained a good, loyal and supportive friend of the band. Personally, I have always had a feeling that our paths would cross again – and now they do. I would like to welcome Mr. Vortex back in the fold, and I am really exited to get another opus done with the strongest line-up BORKNAGAR has ever had. Just imagine the musical potential having two of the best and most renowned vocalists in the scene in the same band. This is surely a huge step forward and another exciting chapter in the musical legacy of Borknagar – and I feel like a lucky bastard being part of this. The new album will surely knock your socks off and set some new standards in the world of metal!“

Lars A. Nedland comments: “Vortex and Vintersorg in the same band! Can you imagine the possibilities here? Can you imagine the choirs? The vocal duels? The sheer musical potential? Let me tell you: If you are a Borknagar fan, these are exciting times.”

Vintersorg comments: “The Vortex has made a touchdown in the Borknagar camp again. It feels very inspiring just to think about starting to shape vocal lines with this in mind. Time to make some epic music!”

David Kinkade comments: ”Nothing can describe the potent amount of excitement that has been flowing through my veins since this became a reality for Borknagar. Having two of the most talented, unique and well rounded singer/ musicians that I’ve ever known….now together in the same band. The creativity behind this effort is off the chart. Be ready. Limits don’t exist.”

Jens F. Ryland comments: “What more is there to say? I can now lean back and enjoy the ride!”

Borknagar recently signed a worldwide recording deal with Century Media Records and the new album is scheduled for an early 2012 release.

Kamelot statement on Roy Khan’s Departure

April 22nd, 2011
by EvilG
KAMELOT - North America 2011

KAMELOT - North America 2011

“With a heavy heart we can now announce that Roy Khan has chosen to leave the band. We wanted to give him ample time for this kind of decision, due to his recent burnout and also the amount of amazing times we have shared with him in Kamelot. We respectfully accept his resignation from the band and wish him the best in his future endeavors. The timing is actually good since we feel the uncertainty the fans have had can now be laid to rest and the band can move on to finding a new singer. “The tour is going great so far and the fans have been amazing throughout this entire process” – adds keyboardist Oliver Palotai. With the new tour already in progress, Kamelot has already begun the search for a new vocalist. “I have a few guys in mind”, said band founder Thomas Youngblood. “And as you can imagine, it is a very important decision. There are some amazing singers that have already contacted us on this but we will take our time to find the right person”. Due to the overwhelming success of the recent shows in South America, we are pleased to announce new shows in November/December for Europe (stay tuned).

* The band headlines the Print de Temps Festival tonight and will play a Amsterdam (nearing sold-out) concert tomorrow followed by a full headliner tour with special guests Evergrey, Amaranthe and Sons of Seasons. (* Guest vocalists Fabio Lione and Tommy Karevik). Thank you for your support and see you on tour!!

Thomas, Casey, Oliver and Sean”

Hydria - Promo Pic 2011

Brazilian symphonic metallers HYDRIA had their second album, “Poison Paradise”, released in Japan on April 13th via Spinning (www.spinninginc.jp). The album was originally released in Brazil in November/2010, two years after their debut, “Mirror of Tears”. The japanese edition features new artwork and two bonus tracks, “Chasing Dreams” and “Face It All”. The track list can be viewed below, and also features two songs composed in 2009 for the soundtrack of “2012 Onda Zero”, a sci-fi webseries.

01. Time Of My Life (Center of my Universe)
02. The Place Where We Belong
03. Whisper
04. When You Call My Name
05. Finally
06. Prelude
07. Distant Melody
08. The Sword
09. Queen Of Rain
10. Sweet Dead Innocence
11. Poison Paradise
12. In The Edge Of Sanity – (2012 Onda Zero soundtrack)
13. The Only One – (2012 Onda Zero soundtrack)
14. Chasing Dreams (Bonus Track)
15. Face It All (Bonus Track)

The album is already being promoted in Japan, and received a great review by Young Guitar magazine, which commented: “The Brazilian symphonic metal band Hydria has great highlights like the beauty of Mrs. Schüler, who, with only 21 years old, charms us with her melodious voice, along with the loud male voice, which creates the feeling of agony and explosion by the guitarist/vocalist, giving an aggressive approach to a melodic and catchy atmosphere.”

Hydria is formed by Raquel Schüler (vocals), Marcelo Oliveira (guitars and vocals), Márcio Klimberg (keyboards), Turu Henrick (bass) and Fabiano Martins (drums). Samples of the band’s work are available at http://www.myspace.com/HydriaOfficial

JUDAS PRIEST Drummer Scott Travis – “We Have To Go On”

April 22nd, 2011
by EvilG
Judas Priest

Judas Priest

The Artisan News Service caught up with JUDAS PRIEST drummer Scott Travis and asked him about the news that shocked the metal world, the departure of guitarist K.K. Downing:

“You have to have that burning desire in your heart to play heavy metal music,” Travis stated. “We all start at a young age and it’s not because of money, fan or girls, you start because you love the music. So if he’s not feeling that anymore, I give him props for taking himself out of the game.”

Check out the entire chat below:

K.K. Downing issued the following press release earlier today:

“Dear friends,

It is with much regret that I will not be with you this summer. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your concerns about my health. Please rest assured that I am O.K.

There has been an ongoing breakdown in working relationship between myself, elements of the band, and the band’s management for some time.

Therefore I have decided to step down rather than to tour with negative sentiments as I feel that this would be a deception to you, our cherished fans.

However I would urge you to please support the Priest as I have no doubt that it will be a show not to be missed.

All my love and respect.”

JON OLIVA’S PAIN Pay Tribute To Guitarist MATT LaPORTE – “That Great Band In The Sky Just Got A Whole Lot Better”

April 22nd, 2011
by EvilG

“It is with great heartache and sorrow that we relay the passing of our dear friend, band-mate, guitarist and brother Matthew LaPorte. Matt passed away in his home shortly after 6:00pm on Wednesday, April 20th No information regarding his cause of death is currently available.

MATT LaPORTE - May 3, 2008 Photo by http://www.flickr.com/photos/theoceanking/2477075876/

Matthew Davis LaPorte- September 11, 1970 - April 20, 2011. MATT LaPORTE - May 3, 2008 Photo by http://www.flickr.com/photos/theoceanking/2477075876/

Matt was a brilliant guitar player on all levels. He understood that instrument better than almost anyone. His knowledge of music in general was just amazing. His contributions to JOP and every band he ever played with was also without measure. He was truly a one-guitar army when he needed to be and his solo performances on all the JOP CDs will forever send chills down our spines. A near 20-year history and friendship with one of the true greats has now ended and we are deeply saddened.

Matt was a fan of all kinds of music and instruments, having even embarked on a mission to conquerthe hammered dulcimer…one of the hardest instruments to play. He was always tryingto expand his musical horizons and influences. He marveled at the musical greats, both old and new. He was never one to rate his talents above others and often commented about the great new music and artists he had just discovered.

Criss Oliva was without a doubt his most profound influence, and anyone who saw him play SAVATAGE songs knew that Criss was channeling his talents via Matt. Matt’s attention to detail and always striving to play everything perfect is without comparison. We would sit for hours during rehearsals with him muddling over whether a guitar chord was played exactly as recorded. Sometimes frustrating, but always appreciated in the end. He was the professionals’ professional when it came to his guitar skills, and the loss of such a talent will be forever felt.

Matt was a gentle soul, and would avoid conflict at all costs. He got along with everyone and greeted all with a smile on his face. There was a shyness and almost embarrassment felt by him from the adoration of his fans around the world…and he had many. He was humbled by the love and respect music fans gave to him, but in a quiet way, that made him work just a little bit harder. His had a hilarious, twisted and often sarcastic sense of humor that was
unique to him. A very funny man indeed.

We miss you terribly Matt, and we will celebrate your music and life each and every day. That great band in the sky just got a whole lot better, and you are in the most peaceful place you could have ever hoped for. Until we meet again…”

“So long!” Says Roy Khan (KAMELOT) on Myspace

April 22nd, 2011
by EvilG
Roy Khan - Kamelot

Roy Khan - Kamelot

So long!

Dear fans & friends,

There have been a lot of speculations around why I am not touring with Kamelot and I want to make a statement although it may not prevent further guessing as to what’s actually going on. It is a fact however that I told the guys in the band already last fall (well after my burnout) that I was leaving the band. Naturally enough they were shocked (as was the label and everyone else working with Kamelot). In addition to risk of dropping ticket sales they wanted to give me time to think things over, and so I did. My decision still stands; It is finished.

I am currently spending time with my family in Norway taking it easy and wondering profoundly what the future is going to bring. Communication with the outer world has been so and so, but I have had several talks with Thomas along the way although I am still called in sick. I am terribly sorry that my decision is affecting so many others and I want you to know I wish the band & associates all the best for the future and that I enjoyed every second in the spotlight. How could I not…they were nourished by the best fans in the world! I am eternally thankful for everything you and Kamelot have given me and equally sorry that it has to end here. The good news is; God was there after all…

Love you to death!!!

All the best & so long,
Roy Khan

PANTERA Facebook Reunion Cause Hits 3,000 Members

April 21st, 2011
by EvilG

3,000 fans on Facebook have now joined the effort in calling for a one-off reunion/tribute concert (or a series of US dates) with the surviving members of disbanded Texas groove metal act PANTERA: vocalist Philip H. Anselmo, bassist Rex Brown and drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott. Despite the ongoing rumor in the press recently that fans wanted the band’s legendary former lead guitarist, Dimebag Darrell Abbott, who was shot and killed on stage in Dec/2004, replaced in a
new Pantera band reformation, the Facebook Pantera Reunion Tour Cause wants to make it clear that they do not support the idea of replacing Dime, for nobody could ever truly replace the late great guitar God.

MELECHESH: Issue End of Tour Statement

April 21st, 2011
by EvilG

Mesopotamian thrashing black metal pioneers MELECHESH have returned home after their first ever tour of North America as direct support to ROTTING CHRIST! Joining them were polish death metallers HATE, as well as ABIGAIL WILLIAMS and LECHEROUS NOCTURNE! Vocalist/guitarist Ashmedi offered the following tour wrap up:

“We have recently completed our North American tour, which took us  all over the place and over several climates. From snow filled mountains and ice cold weather to the pure summer heat of deserts and beaches. We met also a lot of interesting people. From rap gangsters, to crazy fanatic Christians (who seem to hate soup kitchen operators, motor mouth women, sport fanatics), to pastor’s kids who do not seem to know where Jerusalem is, to rednecks who were rather funny and nice, to a haunted venue and its “ghosts(?)”.  It was a pure pleasure to meet our fans, friends and supporters in North America. We thank you all for the warm reception and enthusiasm . You made us hungry for more!

We would like to thank Gerardo and Nuclear Blast records USA for making this tour possible as well as our brothers in ROTTING CHRIST, HATE, ABIGAIL WILLIAMS and LECHEROUS NOCTURNE. Last but certainly not least our crew Vikki, Spud, Jeff, Yannis and Tim.”

MELECHESH recently released the highly anticipated video clip for the song “Grand Gathas Of Baal Sin” from their most recent masterpiece The Epigenesis. The clip was shot at the cisterns in Istanbul, Turkey in late 2010 by Canadian director Rouzbeh Heydari and produced by Tumay Irgas. Check out the clip at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0O5D0A-YHxg

The Epigenesis was recorded in the newly built first class Babajim Studios in Istanbul, Turkey. The album was mixed by Reuben de Lautour and mastered by Pieter Snapper. In an unprecedented move in metal, the band chose to record the album entirely in Istanbul in an attempt to capture the inspiring surroundings. Babajim Studios is run by some of the most elite sound engineers in Turkey.

K.K. Downing

K.K. Downing

Former JUDAS PRIEST guitarist K.K. Downing has issued the following press release:

“Dear friends,

It is with much regret that I will not be with you this summer. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your concerns about my health. Please rest assured that I am O.K.

There has been an ongoing breakdown in working relationship between myself, elements of the band, and the band’s management for some time.

However I would urge you to please support the Priest as I have no doubt that it will be a show not to be missed.

All my love and respect.”

Judas Priest announced yesterday that original guitarist K.K. Downing has formally retired from the band.

According to a press release, “he will therefore not be joining them on their forthcoming Epitaph Tour. The band respect his decision and naturally all wish him well. Having thought long and hard about how to proceed, singer Rob Halford, guitarist Glenn Tipton, bassist Ian Hill and drummer Scott Travis unanimously agreed that they should go ahead with the tour and not let fans around the world down.

Fate also stepped in and delivered the perfect replacement – 31 year-old British guitar player Richie Faulkner (pictured below; DIRTY DEEDS, VOODOO SIX, LAUREN HARRIS) – he has blended into the band perfectly and is a great talent who is going to set the stage on fire, according to a press release.

The Epitaph Tour will include songs from every Priest studio album and also tracks that they have never before performed on stage plus all the old favourites.

With a new album due to be released next year, the ‘metal gods’ are preparing to tour the planet once more. Heavy metal at it’s best complete with lasers, lights, bikes and hellfire! It’s a show not too be missed!”

“Come May, we order ye to don your tri-cornered hat, suck a lime and get ready for a plank-walkin’, bilge-swillin’, rig-climbin’ time with your five favourite hearties, the crew of the good ship GAMA BOMB!”
