ABSU Checks In From Recording Studio

April 12th, 2011
by EvilG

Texas-based mythological occult metal trio ABSU are currently hard at work on Abzu, the follow up to the band’s 2009 self-titled album. The album is being tracked at Nomad Recording Studio in Carrollton, Texas and mixed by none other than J.T. Longoria. (King Diamond, Solitude Aeternus).

Drummer/vocalist/lyricist Proscriptor confirms, “The entire rhythm section has been successfully tracked and all that remains are mellotron passages and vocal lines. Before attempting the final mix, we plan to transfer the rhythm section onto two-inch tape to thaw out its digital timbre. With this record, we are appending dirtier elements of psychedelia and fusion. Lyrically, it will descend deeper into Enki’s lower world as well the Enochian Magic(k) System.” Continuing he notes, “I can tell you this album will definitely not be a ‘natural progression’ from previous releases, but a feat of metaphysical conquest and murkiness.”

Abzu is the second of a three-part series that features ABSU’s signature sound in maniacal fashion. Recently completing a string of American dates with Immortal, the band, featuring guitarist Vis Crom and bassist/vocalist Ezezu, performed a cross section of their extensive catalog to enthusiastic audiences. ABSU sold out of merchandise well before the six date journey concluded in San Antonio late February.

ABSU came to international prominence with the release of their 1993 debut, Barathrum: V.I.T.R.I.O.L. Originally released via Gothic Records, the label later licensed the record to France’s Osmose Productions. (Immortal, Enslaved, Impaled Nazarene, Melechesh) ABSU would then establish a solid relationship with the label and thus release all later recordings via the renowned independent label, including the highly regarded Tara in 2001. In 2007, the band would announce a new partnership with London-based Candlelight Records. The band spent much of 2008 writing/recording Absu, which featured contributions from members of King Diamond, Aura Noir, Melechesh, Firstborn and Enthroned.

Planned for release later this year, Abzu will tap the expertise of Polish artist Zbigniew Bielak (Watain, Destroyer 666) and Costin Chioreanu (Ava Inferi, Grave, Demonical) to assemble the album’s packaging. “In the past, we have utilized the talents of Belgium artist Kris Verwimp,” says Proscriptor, “but now we’re aesthetically detouring into more mystifying, Thelemic realms: musically and lyrically.”

Projected track listing of Abzu (in this particular order) is:

I.) Ontologically, It Became Time & Space

II.) Circles of the Oath

III.) Abraxas Connexus

IV.) Skrying in the Spirit Vision

V.) Earth Ripper

VI.) A Song for Ea including:

a. E-A

b. A Myriad of Portals

c. 3rd Tablet

d. Warren of Imhullu

e. The Waters – The Denizens

f. E-A (Reprise)

Upcoming ABSU Festival Performances:

7/15/2011 Hammer Open Air – Lieto, Finland

8/12/2011 Party San Open Air – Schlotheim, Germany

8/13/2011 Brutal Assault Open Air – Jaromer, Czech Republic

THE OCEAN Kick Off North American Tour

April 12th, 2011
by EvilG

German atmospheric progressive metal collective and Metal Blade Recording artists, THE OCEAN, today kick off a month-long North American tour! The band will perform three headlining shows beginning tonight at Jaxx in Springfield, VA before joining “The Hypersleep Dialogues Trek, ” with headliners Between The Buried And Me, Job For A Cowboy and Cephalic Carnage on select dates. Presented by Peter Says Denim, in association with Guitar World & MetalSucks.net, “The Hypersleep Dialogues Trek”will begin in Farmingdale, New York at The Crazy Donkey, include a stop at this year’s New England Metal And Hardcore fest in Worcester, Massachusetts and hit over two dozen cities before making a final stop in Ashville, North Carolina at The Orange Peel.

Said guitarist Robin Staps of the tour: “We’re excited to be back in the U.S. It’s been three years since our last tour over here with Kylesa, Intronaut, Lair Of The Minotaur and Withered. We’ve been wanting to come back ever since, but it’s just so difficult for a European band to work out tour logistics and working visas are really expensive for us… But we finally made it! Looking forward to these three upcoming headlining shows where we’re gonna play full 90-minute sets, and I’m sure the BTBAM tour afterwards will be equally great, though shorter set times for us. Looking forward to see you all out there somewhere!”

by EvilG

Legendary Brazilian/American thrashers SEPULTURA, will play a special show together with the orquestra experimental de repertório on Saturday, April 16, 2011 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Check out the following video for more info on the event and some words explain the event from guitarist Andreas Kisserhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jR_PfXgcTt4.

About the benefit show:

“Since the mid 1700’s brazilwood (also known as pernambuco wood) has been vital in the manufacture of fine violins bows and other stringed instruments. Threatened with extinction, the lack of brazilwood will cause devastating effect in music.

Inspired in the documentary and book “The Music Tree” by InterFace Filmes, the concert for brazilwood will take place in São Paulo during the Virada Cultural 2011. 1000 brazilwood trees will be replanted by the Instituto Verde Brasil on behalf of the concert.”

SEPULTURA has tapped Roy Z. (JUDAS PRIEST, HALFORD, BRUCE DICKINSON, HELLOWEEN) to produce the group’s new CD, slated for an early summer release. The CD is once again being recorded at Trama Studios in São Paulo, Brazil.

Indestructible Noise Command’s (I.N.C.) Music Video for ‘God Loves Violence’ Airing Now at MTV.com

April 12th, 2011
by EvilG

New Details Released About Upcoming Music Video for ‘Swallowed’

Set to Release New Full-Length Album ‘Heaven Sent, Hellbound’ on May 24th, 2011

Internationally established thrash metal band INDESTRUCTIBLE NOISE COMMAND is pleased to announce that MTV.com is currently spinning their music video for ‘God Loves Violence’. Head to this link to view the video at MTV.com!

“After 24 years, it’s great to have a video airing with MTV,” states guitarist Erik Barath. “We’re very proud of this video. We really wanted it to match the song; something that grabs your face for five minutes, ripping it off by the end.”

INDESTRUCTIBLE NOISE COMMAND is scheduled to film their new music video for the single ‘Swallowed’ this coming May. The video is being shot by director Russell Hasenauer at Fort Hancock, a World War II site in Sandy Hook, NJ. This video hits close to home with vocalist and firefighter Dennis Gergely, who was present at Ground Zero on 9/11 helping to save lives and defend our U.S. soil. Being that the video is filming so close to New York City and at the site of a World War II fort, this video resonates personally with Dennis. More details about the music video will be released as they are confirmed.

Revolver Magazine recently debuted an exclusive new track, ‘Fist of Fascista’, at Revolvermag.com. The debut is part of Revolvermag.com’s monthly ‘Revolver Bootleg Series’ which features new, rare and exclusive music. ‘Fist of Fascista’ is cut from the band’s upcoming full-length release hitting stores on May 24th, 2011, Heaven Sent… Hellbound. The release is being produced by world-famous record producer Fredrik Nordström (At the Gates, In Flames, Opeth), and the artwork is illustrated by famous artist Sam Shearon (Iron Maiden, Rob Zombie, Fear Factory).

In it’s first week, INDESTRUCTIBLE NOISE COMMAND’s new EP Bleed the Line debuted at #4 Most Added on the CMJ Loud Rock charts. The EP entered the charts at #12 and is currently on the cusp of the top 10 at #11. The EP is currently spinning at many college and commercial radio stations nationwide. Bleed the Line EP is available now in digital format. Fans can download the record at iTunes and Amazon.com now.

Through humble beginnings in Connecticut, INDESTRUCTIBLE NOISE COMMAND exceeded their own expectations and the expectations of others with two successful full-length Giant Records releases, Razorback (1987) and The Visitor (1988). Giant Records signed I.N.C. after witnessing the band’s crushing live performances with the likes of Exodus, Megadeth and King Diamond; all of which taking place only six months after they had graduated high school. In 1988 with The Visitor, the band hit #1 on the CMJ Metal charts and stole the U.K. #2 Import slot out from underneath Aerosmith. Now based in New York City, the band is back with their Bleed the Line EP and Heaven Sent, Hellbound. I.N.C. is an original pioneer of the thrash metal scene, resurrected in order to take back a genre recently flooded with neo-thrash carbon copies. Revived and back with a vengeance, I.N.C. is ready to prove ownership of the scene in 2011.

INDESTRUCTIBLE NOISE COMMAND is:

Erik Barath – Guitar

Tony Fabrizi – Guitar

Dennis Gergely – Vocals

Dennis Leeflang – Drums

Samuel J. Roon – Bass

DEVIN TOWNSEND project announces tour with Children of Bodom; reveals covers for ‘deconstruction’ and ‘ghost’

April 12th, 2011
by EvilG

DTPbyAdamWillis

DEVIN TOWNSEND took over the progressive metal movement last year. With the release of ‘Addicted’ and subsequent touring across the globe, the former STRAPPING YOUNG LAD frontman has never had a higher profile – a point proven by the numerous sell-out performances on his most recent European tour. This continues to be the case in 2011, as DEVIN TOWNSEND gears up to release not one, but two brand new albums on June 20th via InsideOut Music. ‘Deconstruction’ and ‘Ghost’ are the final two chapters in Hevy Devy’s four-album concept series (along with ‘Ki’ and ‘Addicted’) and are sure to be two of the most talked about albums of the year!

Not only will TOWNSEND release two new albums, but he is also excited to announce that he will serve as direct support to Children of Bodom on their upcoming tour through North America. Additional support on the trek will come from Septicflesh and Obscura, who will alternate the opening slot each night. Presented by REVOLVER Magazine and Guitar World, the tour will be DEVIN TOWNSEND’s first to promote the new albums and sees him joining forces with one of metal’s most respected acts, Children of Bodom, on their first North American tour since 2009.

Dates for the trek are below.

FORBIDDEN: 2nd N. American Headlining Tour Announced

April 12th, 2011
by EvilG
Forbidden 2010

Forbidden 2010

Reactivated San Francisco Bay Area thrashers FORBIDDEN, along with Decibel Magazine and Metal-Sucks.net, are happy to announce the bands second headlining run of North America! Joining them are tech-death thrashers REVOCATION, traditional heavy metal champions WHITE WIZZARD, and Colorado based thrash merchants HAVOK. Guitarist Craig Locicero commented on the bands upcoming trek:

FORBIDDEN is proud to announce our first proper headlining tour in 16 years throughout the North America this Summer! Finally! We will be bringing out REVOCATION, WHITE WIZZARD and HAVOK along for the fun. These bands are all hungry, cool and young guns and they will add to the excitement!

Something we witnessed last Winter was the economy crushing many tours. A lot of kids just can’t afford the ticket prices anymore. When we made the jump to the Pantheon Agency a few months ago, we made it clear that we wanted a reduced ticket price and all ages venues. That way all the fans of FORBIDDEN can afford to go and bring their friends of all ages along for a real Thrash experience! Well that is just what we’ve done. Ticket prices will be between $10-$15 ever where we play. Step one is complete!

Step two is the actual gigs themselves. We will be starting at the Whiskey in Hollywood on June 9th and then we head North into Canada for an extensive run into the East, South, Mid-West to eventually end the tour in San Diego on July 2nd. These will be raw, intimate and bare boned Thrash Metal shows. Exactly how we started it. How it was meant to be!

So tell your friends, grab your kids…whatever it takes. You are ALL invited to join us on this Omega Wave!”

CLUB TAVASTIA, HELSINKI

REVIEW AND PICTURES BY MARKO SYRJÄLÄ

Michael Monroe finally released his long awaited studio album SENSORY OVERDRIVE. Despite this, the band spend the whole last year performing across the globe band now started another tour to support its new release. The new album has received excellent reception here in Finland. It was number one in the official album list here and that’s something, I’m not 100% sure about this, but it’s something that the re-united Hanoi Rock’s was never able to reach with its three albums. For sure it wasn’t an easy thing for Michael to decide to quit Hanoi Rocks but the success of this new album does prove that it was after all a right decision
