The legendary British grind core mongers, Napalm Death, haven’t visited Finland for years. The last time Napalm Death did a show, their guitarist, now late, Jesse Pintado was still in the ranks sharing the guitar duties on the stage.  For some weird reason, only a little bit over 100 maniacs had crawled out to testify the show back then. Years passed by till January 2007 when the grind core legends from Birgiham returned to the soil of Finland to cause an ultimate grinding rampage for the four date tour cross Finland. Of course, it was extremely thrilling to witness app. 600 true fans of grind core out to see Napalm Death in the middle of the week.

As usual a couple of Finnish bands had been booked to open and support on the tour. Frankly both the bands fit the bill more than perfectly.

Interview with Peso and Flegias

It was about time to talk to the Italian blackthrashers, Necrodeath’s drummer Peso and vocalist Flegias, about the most recent output called 100% HELL. The Italian four piece has undergone some line-up changes as long time and founding member Claudio pulled out, whose interviews can be found here (2001) and here (2004).  

Necrodeath’s music should appeal to all extreme metal fans as the band’s tight and aggressive black-thrash assault is like a brutal slap to the face. The most recent album is another excellent masterpiece from these Italian extreme metal mongers. Enjoy the interview…

10pm – Jen Militia – Hip-hop soul-punk is what they call it, a group of illegal rock combatants. Jen Militia’s explosive sound has been described as having the throw down factor of The Clash, the soul of Mary J. Blige, the raps of Ol’ Dirty Bastard and the straight funk of Rage Against the Machine. STAN BUSH

Frontiers Records is pleased to present all details of STAN BUSH brand new album “In This Life” to be released on April 20th 2007 !

STAN BUSH is a real Melodic Rock icon. With “In This Life” -  his 10th studio album – Stan was able new heights of maturity as a world-class songwriter/recording artist!. Featuring the trademark powerful melodies that have made Stan a popular artist around the world, his new album is easily his best ever!

“I am really proud of these songs” says Stan. “I think this album is the most complete, enjoyable and in a word best album in my entire career”.

Helped with the production and arrangements work by his longtime collaborator Holger Fath, “In This Life” is a true Melodic Rock gem. “The title track has an almost spiritual message about searching for truth” explains Stan, “While “Take It All the Way” is about going for it “. Another very special song is “Southern Rain”: a heartfelt ‘unplugged’ acoustic song about Stan’s early years growing up in Florida and also features a guest appearance by guitarist Rocket Ritchotte (DAVID LEE ROTH, RICK SRINGFIELD). DANNY VAUGHN

It can now be officially announced that Danny Vaughn will be the support act for JOURNEY’s upcoming UK tour. Danny will be performing a 25 minute acoustic set opening for Journey, including songs from his new album “Traveller”, plus his days with Tyketto and Vaughn.

Danny would like to thank old pal Jeff Scott Soto and all of the people in the Journey camp for the “fantastic” opportunity. Joining Danny on stage will be second guitarist and band mate Tony Marshall.

There is an additional little story behind this news. A couple of years ago both Tyketto and Jeff Scott Soto had gigs booked on the same night for the same town for 2 different gigs. Danny Vaughn invited the JSS Band to join them and for those 2 shows the crowd got a double bill for the same price.

Jeff promised to return the favor one day and was instrumental in getting Danny this support slot Incidentally – Danny’s first and best known band was Tyketto. when Danny left the group, the continued on for a short while with a different singer – Steve Augeri, as you know went on to front Journey.

ZOMBIE’S JOHN 5: NEW RELEASE APRIL 3RD
‘THE DEVIL KNOWS MY NAME’

Out of the dark passages of John 5’s mind comes this mind-blowing, sinister guitar instrumental. ‘The Devil Knows My Name’ is John 5’s third solo album, due out on April 3rd, 2007, which features guest guitar solo’s from two legendary guitarists – Joe Satriani and Eric Johnson with newer legend in-the-make Jim Root (Slipknot).  Keeping time are Zombie band-mates Tommy Clufetos (drums) and Piggy D. (bass). The album was recorded in the middle of night where John 5 would lay down his leads – This is the only album that all leads were doubled – An instrumental feat that is rarely taken on by the best of the guitar players.

‘The Devil Knows My Name’ melds around clues, quotes and references of serial killers, wielding an eerie tone for those who dare to enter the world of John 5’s mind. “I wanted a different tone to the instrumental with twisted imagery of sounds,” explains John 5. “Utilizing serial killers came to light for this project while looking at their crimes and how distorted their minds work.”

Not all is sinister on ‘The Devil Knows My Name’ but there are tunnels to the past greats. John 5 shreds-out his version of Guns N’ Roses ‘Welcome To The Jungle’ and Chet Atkins “Young Thing”. “I chose Welcome To The Jungle for the one reason – when I was becoming successful it was easy to stay in the nest back home, then I saw the video and that made me get up and go to Hollywood.” ‘Welcome To The Jungle’ will be the first release off the album and is hitting the airwaves soon.

John 5 has created a worldwide following as a widely respected guitarist with such platinum artists as Marilyn Manson, David Lee Roth, Rob Halford and now an integral member of Rob Zombie. John 5’s eclectic influences combine for a truly unique guitar oriented record that once again sets new standards in the genre.

ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY: Announce U.S. Tour Dates; Complete Work On Video

ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY has announced its first U.S. tour in support of their forthcoming album, Open Fire.

ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY will kick off the three week tour on March 8 in Raleigh, NC. This tour will include the band’s fifth SXSW performance at the annual Relapse Records SXSW Showcase in Austin, TX on March 15 at Room 710. Additionally, ATP recently completed work on their first video from Open Fire. The video, for the track “Words of the Dying Man”, was shot in their hometown of Richmond, VA with local creative collective Day By Day (LAMB OF GOD, MUNICIPAL WASTE). The “Words of the Dying Man” video is scheduled to make it’s international debut in late February.

JOE SHITHEAD KEITHLEY TO RELEASE BAND OF REBELS

Joe Shithead Keithley, Canada’s punk godfather and leader of the legendary D.O.A. is recording his new music project/group, Band of Rebels. Joe has gathered together some of Vancouver’s best musicians and has been recording and producing the album with Chon at Profile Studios in Vancouver.

Band of Rebels is a combo of punk-a billy, rock, punk-folk and ska. It’s wild, upbeat, political and funny. Joe’s label Sudden Death Records will release the album this coming May. Joe, Chon and the guest musicians, have been having a raucous time recording for the past couple of months.

UK’S BUCK BROTHERS TO ATTEMPT WORLD RECORD BEFORE CANADIAN TOUR

On March 5, 2007 the Buck Brothers will attempt to create a World Record. In the band’s native London, England, the band will attempt to play 30 shows in a 12 hour period (11 am – 11 pm) with a view to achieving an illustrious entry into the Guinness Book of World Records. 
Such a challenge has not been undertaken by a band before in the capital and the trio is expected to enjoy considerable media attention while attempting the record. Buck Brothers will be recruiting ‘Travelling Bucksters’ who will follow the group around during this historical musical tour of London.

The fifth release on the new FW Artist Collective brings the world the debut effort by UK power-pop-punk upstarts, the Buck Brothers. Me contains 12 tracks of catchy, bouncy, fun-time predatory punk-pop that sticks in your mind like a broken finger-nail on a silk stocking. The first single “Girls, Skirts, Boots, Bikes” was featured on MTV and “Harry Potter” (Daniel Radcliffe) has confessed to being “Addicted to the CD”.

Buck Brothers Me will be released to stores across Canada on February 27, campus radio and publicity campaigns are already underway and the Canadian Music Week showcase is March 10th followed by a regional Ontario and Quebec tour. 

“On a personal level, I’m a huge Canada-phile so returning this spring for a tour is something that myself and my fellow Bucks are incredibly excited about,” says Andy Duke. “I absolutely love Canada and can name more Canadian celebrities than your average Canadian can. My enthusiasm is THAT strong. I’ll put it to the test.  When we first played in Canada last year – some of fans were incredibly generous and gave us gifts of Maple Syrup, Robert Munch books, Canadian Wine and even Timmy Ho’s coffee.”

JOE LYNN TURNER

Former RAINBOW and DEEP PURPLE singer JOE LYNN TURNER is very busy putting finishing touches to the mix of his forthcoming studio album entitled “Second Hand Life”.

“The new disc is almost done and I would describe it as a hybrid between The Usual Suspects and Sunstorm”  explains Joe, “‘Sunstorm’ received more positive reviews than any of my solo CDs since Rescue You so I felt that the fans wanted to hear more music in this melodic rock vein. So…I think we delivered on this forthcoming album”

The line-up on the recording includes Karl Cochran on guitars and bass, Bob Held on bass, Michael Cartellone (DAMN YANKEES, LYNYRD SKYNYRD) on drums and Gary Corbett on keyboards.

The new album sees songwriting contributions from Jim Peterik, Bob Held, Karl Cochran, Martin Briley and a track that was written by Ritchie Blackmore, Jim Peterik, Roger Glover and Joe entitled “Stroke of Midnight”.

What happens with two of today’s most successful classic rockers join forces to create an album of songs that have been a source of inspiration for their respective multi-Platinum careers?

The result is INFLUENCE, the sophomore album by Shaw Blades—led by Styx/Damn Yankees guitarist/vocalist Tommy Shaw and Night Ranger/Damn Yankees bassist/vocalist Jack Blades, which is set for release March 6, 2007 on VH1 Classic Records.  The self-produced album was mixed by Noel Golden (Matchbox Twenty, Willie Nelson) and Great White keyboardist/guitarist Michael Lardie. The first single, “Your Move,” will be serviced to radio in January.

“I cringe at the thought of Paul Simon hearing our stuff,” laughs Blades, only half-jokingly. “I honor his spirit so much, and I’m such a huge fan. As far as I’m concerned, they invented the word genius to go along with him, and we just wanted to make sure that we did their songs justice. Tommy and I have that special symbiotic relationship that doesn’t come along a lot. Simon & Garfunkel also had it, we have a reverence to it, and it was something that we just wanted to dig into.”

“As writers, we’re like two old friends who finish each other’s sentences,” adds Shaw. “We became best friends as a result of the music and the experiences we’ve had because of it.”

But INFLUENCE isn’t about the experiences of Shaw Blades, it’s about the inspiration that helped create the experiences. “This album has been years in the making,” continues the Styx/Damn Yankees guitarist. “The recording process didn’t take years, but the concept had been looming in our conversations for a long time. We’d always sit around with a couple of guitars and play songs we both knew from or younger days, spontaneous harmonizing and all that, and we slowly eased into the idea of making this record.”

One of the most prolific duos in the history of hard rock, Shaw and Blades have sold more than 50 million albums amongst their three bands, scored 12 Top 10 singles on the Billboard “Hot 100” chart, debuted 16 albums in the Billboard “Top 200” albums chart, and share joint songwriting credits for the likes of Ozzy Osbourne, Aerosmith, Cher and Alice Cooper.

Even so, INFLUENCE offered the pair an invigorating musical freedom. “With Shaw Blades,” offers Blades, “we’re able to take liberties that our respective bands couldn’t do.  We need to be Styx-sounding, we need to fit in that Night Ranger world, and we even need to think about Damn Yankees, so that’s what’s fun about Shaw Blades–we get to be our alter-egos when we want to be, yet we can truly be ourselves.  We grew up singing harmonies and songs with massive vocals, so it’s a wonderful thing to have that freedom here. This was a complete labor of love.”

In touring news, a U.S. trek is currently in the works and Shaw Blades hope to bring their music to their fans closer to the album release date.

“You can always tell a brilliant song, whether it was written 30 years ago or yesterday,” says Blades. “Every song we picked is identifiable in its own right, and they’re all immediately recognizable.  What does that tell you?  That the songs are the stars.  That’s what we wanted to do on this record, we wanted the songs to be the stars.  I think that’s what we accomplished.”

FUTURE NATIVE RISING UP FROM DOWN UNDER FOR CMW

Multi-dimensional, multi-talented acoustic rockers Future Native are making their first trip to Canada for Canadian Music Week.  The Queensland, Australia based band will be playing a CMW Showcase on March 8 at El Mocambo.

Future Native has been described as a modern blend of emotionally charged and thought provoking anthems.   Think the Living End and Midnight Oil.  Lyrically, the band reflects strong social and political attitudes. Their second album, The Politics of Love, is a passionate acoustic project that has garnered international acclaim.  The latest single, “Superman”, is being played in over 20 different countries, including Canada.

THE MORNING STARS SAY YOU CAN’T CHANGE THE WORLD

Music may not change the world, but The Morning Stars are about to try with the release of their debut album You Can’t Change The World.  The Morning Stars draw from influences as varied as The Beatles, Johnny Cash, Velvet Underground, The Ramones and New Order.

Formed by Michael and Mars Ivic, the band includes four members. Mars takes on lead/rhythm guitar duties, while Michael covers bass. The brothers Ivic also share keys, tambourine and lead vocals. Devrim Eldelekli rounds out the guitars, and Donn Dixon (formerly of Skaface) is behind the drum kit.

You Can’t Change The World includes “a lot of broken hearts, love and lust, and self-analysis”, says Michael. “I wasn’t the happiest person writing this album,” Mars agrees, “but now everything is bubble gum and sunshine.”

Recording in the Ivic’s home studio offered the band an unusual luxury: time. “You don’t have to think about the hourly studio rental bill,” Mars remarks. “Because we have our own studio we took advantage of taking the time to get what we really wanted.”

Since forming in 2004, The Morning Stars have been busy making well-crafted songs of uncluttered simplicity and original acoustic charm.  Now they bring us their first full-length album.  In their live shows you can expect nothing less than pure rock n roll. “No gimmicks or fancy light show,” promises Mars, “Just four lads givin’ it.”

Matt Zane Scheduled To Lecture At Musicians Institute
Matt Zane (Society 1) is scheduled to speak at The Musicians Institute Tuesday the 6th at 4:00 P.M. for the Music Business Programs Guest Lecture Series. The series has been presenting an exceptionally impressive lineup each week for the past quarter. The Series gives students a chance to meet, ask questions and learn directly from some of the most successful artists and music professionals in the industry. The Series facilitator, Barry Squire also conducts MI’s Hiring Hall audition showcase, which has resulted in a number of high-profile gigs for MI students.

Zane had this to say: “Not many know it but I actually graduated from MI. I remember being a kid going to that school and now I am being asked to speak. Funny how things come full circle. I can only imagine what the students will think of the industry after my lecture.”

THE WILDHEARTS FINISHING UP NEW ALBUM; TO RETURN TO AMERICA AT SXSW IN 2007
 
English rockers The Wildhearts will be returning to the US this spring with a new album under their belts, a new line up, and an appearance at SXSW in Austin, Texas among others.  The band will begin mixing the new album, which will be self-titled, on February 1st and will release The Wildhearts later this year on the band’s own label, Round Records in the United Kingdom and Universal Records in Japan.  Round Records is currently seeking distribution in the United States.
 
The Wildhearts was recorded partially at London’s Strongroom Studios, partially at a country house in Ipswich, and at a haunted castle in the Midlands.  “This album is going to surprise a lot of people who considered the last Wildhearts album too poppy,” says Ginger of the new record.  “There will not be any similar accusations this time around, that’s for sure.”
 
The Wildhearts’ new lineup sees the return of original drummer Ritch Battersby and the addition of Scott Sorry (Amen, Brides of Destruction) on bass.  Front man Ginger regards Sorry as “the most energetic performer I’ve ever shared a stage with.  His youth certainly keeps us older bastards on our toes.”  Ginger and guitarist CJ round out the lineup, which judging by reactions from a recent holiday show is the most solid ever.
 
2007 will see The Wildhearts return to SXSW for the first time since 2004.  Prior to making a stop in Austin the band will be making several other stops along the way including one in New York City on March 10 at Rebel.  Considering the last time The Wildhearts played in New York they sold out the Tribecca Rock Club, they are certainly looking forward to this one as well.  Details for the band’s SXSW appearance and other shows have not been released yet.

POSSESSED´s Jeff Becerra & SADISTIC INTENT´s Rick Cortez

What happened to Sadistic Intent, some of you may wonder silently in your minds. The band was working with their THE SECOND COMING OF DARKNESS debut full-lenght album in 2002, but when things really start to go badly wrong, they do – and nothing can stop them going wrong. That was Sadistic Intent´s unfortunate faith with their 1st attempts to get the album recorded back in the day; everything ended up for a real mess.

However, as long as there´s some hope left, almost anything can be expected, even the second coming of Sadistic Intent. And talking about these so-called ´2nd comings´, Possessed´s sort of ´second coming´ has been going on for a while already. Namely the band members of Sadistic Intent have been currently been doing one-off shows with Jeff Benjamin Becerra, playing classic Possessed songs in Europe, in the States, and in Mexico with a huge enthusiasm. It all started with a special reunion show of Possessed that took place at Wacken festival in August 2007. At the same time, Sadistic Intent played one-off gig in Hamburg, Germany - actually the day after the Wacken weekend, together with the Dutch old school Death Metal masters Pentacle.

Since Possessed´s special Wacken performance and Sadistic Intent´s show at Ballroom in Hamburg last year, lots of things have happened. Read all about these things – amongst other very interesting plans both Sadistic Intent and Possessed have in their sleeves about a number of things. PAUL BOSTAPH

Paul Bostaph is a true professional and one of the best drummers on today’s metal music scene. Paul’s career started in the late eighties as a member of U.S thrashers Forbidden and over the years he has played with such bands as Testament, Systematic and Slayer for which he recorded four albums between 1993- 2003. In 2005 Paul joined legendary Bay Area band Exodus and later in the same year he made his recording debut with the band on SHOVEL HEADED KILL MACHINE. Exodus has now been on tour for over a year and last December the band returned to < ?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Helsinki. David & Doug came over to Europe on last November to do a promotional tour supporting band’s recently released "Live.. In The Shadow Of The Blues" live album. What made this promo tour extremely cool was the fact that in addition of doing tons of interviews Doug and David spoiled their fans with playing selected acoustic gigs and Swedenrock Rock kick off party in Stockholm was luckily one of those places. There are lot’s of activity in Whitesnake camp and which is the most important thing is the news that band is currently working on brand new studio album, bands first in ten years, which should be released on next summer.
