March 22nd, 2011
by EvilG

THE HAUNTED are back with their follow-up to 2008’s ‘Versus’ and it’s bigger and more exciting than they’ve ever been! ‘Unseen’ sees a band who is unwilling to remain still and continues to push the boundaries of their sound and growth. REVOLVER Magazine recently gave ‘Unseen’ a four star review saying, “‘Unseen’ is daring and varied in its scope and execution, each track markedly different in genre and approach from the last, but never losing the distinctive HAUNTED touch.”

‘Unseen’ will be released upon the masses in North America tomorrow, but THE HAUNTED have released one more trailer for fans to check out before they get to hear this beastly slab of Swedish metal.

Chris Reifert of AUTOPSY/DEATH Contributes Foreward to ‘METALION: The Slayer Mag Diaries’

March 22nd, 2011
by EvilG

Bazillion Points Books is proud to reveal that legendary American death metal pioneer Chris Reifert (AUTOPSY, ABSCESS, DEATH, THE RAVENOUS) has contributed a foreword to the upcoming 744-page hardcover book METALION: The Slayer Mag Diaries, by Jon Kristiansen. Reifert’s connection to the Norwegian Slayer Mag dates to the late 1980s, when he and Kristiansen regularly exchanged demo cassettes and handwritten letters through the mail between California and Norway.

“Ask anyone who was around and into underground metal way back when,” begins Reifert, “and they will certainly mention Slayer Mag when discussing classic deathly literature…as you read it, I think you’ll enjoy being transported back in time to the early years of death metal.”

Part anthology, part memoir, and years in the making, METALION includes over 600 reproduction pages from every issue of Slayer mag, spanning from the early 1980s through 2010. In addition, author Jon Kristiansen recounts his life’s story, from alienated outsider to central figure in Norwegian black metal to world-weary metal survivor. The book also features over 100 rare photographs, including two color sections and a portrait gallery of photographs taken by Kristiansen himself.

“The greatest heavy metal story ever told” will be available June 6, 2011, wherever books are sold, and is available for preorder now with two bonus limited patches from Bazillion Points Books, “America’s smallest but heaviest book publisher.”

Cradle of Filth and “The Creatures of the Black Abyss” tour

Cradle of Filth and “The Creatures of the Black Abyss” tour

Boots of Filth

Best Buy Theater – New York, NY
March 3rd, 2011

Review and pictures by Kyle Moore, the Metal Magnus

My history with Cradle of Filth is a lengthy one. They’ve treated me both wonderfully and terribly, depending on the album or concert in question. I’m a huge fan of their earlier work, up til around DAMNATION AND A DAY. Then NYMPHETAMINE happened, and I completely checked out of the abyss that had become Dani Filth’s lackluster creative mind. Call me boring, but I am one of those fans who wants to hear nothing but tracks from the first half of Cradle’s career in a concert setting, leaving new material completely behind. My pickiness aside, Cradle can put on a great live show when they want – something that doesn’t always happen. The second time I ever saw them live, some six years ago, they were outright terrible. In addition to being completely upstaged by openers Arch-Enemy, they looked bored, flaccid, and flat-out lame. Thankfully they had improved tremendously when I saw them in early ’09.

The Finnish Metal Tour 2 with Finntroll & Ensiferum

The Finnish Metal Tour 2 with Finntroll & Ensiferum

Finntroll

The Gramercy Theater – New York, NY

February 26th, 2011

Review and pictures by Kyle Moore, the Metal Magnus

Last April, I was fortunate enough to catch the original Finnish metal tour featuring Finntroll and their sister band Moonsorrow, which thoroughly blew me away. The tour must have been quite a success, since Finntroll enlisted Viking metal warlords Ensiferum for a second round of stateside Pagan folk lunacy. Also on board were two Finnish bands I hadn’t heard of, Barren Earth and Rotten Sound.

Glen Drover To Release a NEW Instrumental Guitar CD Metalusion on MAGNA CARTA RECORDS out APRIL 5TH 2011

March 21st, 2011
by EvilG
Glen Drover - Metalusion

Glen Drover - Metalusion

Glen Drover unleashes his NEW instrumental masterpiece on Magna Carta Records, April 5th to the world. Drover’s extraordinary talent of arranging/composing lends to the new music’s fresh melodies for songs that shows his true diversity and only in Glen Drover’s musical notes will you understand:

GLEN DROVER

Members: Glen Drover – Guitars, Jim Gilmour – Keyboards, Paul Yee – Bass,Chris Sutherland – Drums

With the release of his solo debut, Metalusion, guitarist Glen Dover, best known for his precision and power playing with headbanger stalwarts Megadeth and Eidolon, blends the technically demanding musicianship that typified the classic jazz-rock genre with the venom and attack of modern metal.

The instrumental, 10-track Metalusion, featuring five original compositions and metallic- edged interpretations of material composed by rock and jazz-rock giants Frank Zappa, Al DiMeola and Jean-Luc Ponty, melds the robust properties of distinct sonic strains that reveals a new and mysterious element on the periodic table of musical genres.

Metalusion presents a side of Drover’s musical identity that the metal community has rarely witnessed, while boasting diverse yet highly cohesive tracks. “Each song should sound as though it was meant to be included on the record,” says Drover. “Nothing should seem as though it’s out of place.”

Assisting Drover with forging a perfect musical balance is Canadian multi-instrumentalist and bassist Paul Yee (who co-engineered the record), drummer Chris Sutherland (Kim Mitchell), Saga’s Jim Gilmour on keyboards and a number of special guests, including Nevermore’s power metal/prog metal guitarist Jeff Loomis, Opeth’s and Talisman’s ass-kicking axe man Fredrik Åkesson, veteran Steve Smyth of the Bay Area’s rejuvenated Forbidden, Ohm’s guitar maven and erstwhile Megadeth genius Chris Poland and classical metal master Vinnie Moore of UFO.

Glen Drover is regarded internationally as one of the greatest players in the industry. Starting his recording career playing with such bands as Testament, King Diamond and of course let’s not forget the multi-platinum award-winning metal band Megadeth. Drover remains one of the most active guitarists in the shred guitar scene today. His rise to Platinum success and cult status with founding member Dave Mustaine of the legendary and highly successful progressive metal band Megadeth proves Glen Drover’s has got what it takes to explore the outer limits of extreme instrumental music.

KILL RITUAL IS HERE – Former members of IMAGIKA, DARK ANGEL and ELDRITCH return with KILL RITUAL!

March 21st, 2011
by EvilG
KILL RITUAL

KILL RITUAL

Formed in late 2010 by former IMAGIKA lead guitarist Steven Rice and drummer Wayne De Vecchi KILL RITUAL is completed by former ELDRITCH guitarist Roberto Proietti, former DARK ANGEL bassist Danyael Williams and Bay Area vocalist Josh Gibson. Steven elaborates on how the band came together.

“After the demise of IMAGIKA Wayne and I decided to form a new band that would bring life to the music we had been working on after IMAGIKA called it a day. We had a goal in mind of writing music that reflected our influences from Thrash, Classic, Progressive, Power, whatever kicks ass Metal and this required bringing in experienced players that have been there and done that. We were lucky enough to come in contact with Roberto and Danyael who had the kind of pedigree and experience we were definitely looking for. Having both been in bands that have released numerous albums worldwide and toured extensively they are a perfect fit for this new band. The missing element was of course vocalist Josh who came into the band with the work ethic, experience and attitude that is essential as a vocalist to help the songs take on a life of their own.  His unique and identifiable vocal style is the change we needed from our past projects as we definitely had the idea of Kill Ritual taking a new direction from our collective past bands and I think we have achieved that. I mean what’s the point of rehashing what you’ve already done? I feel the 4 rough demo tracks we’re releasing show this and are only a hint of what’s to come. Enjoy! ”

The band will enter Fang Studios to record their debut “Serpentine Rituals” this summer and expect a late 2011 release on a yet to be determined label. 4 new demo tracks are available on the following sites.

www.mysapce.com/killritual

www.reverbnation.com/#!/killritual

KILL RITUAL is:

Josh Gibson-Vocals

Steven Rice-Lead Guitar

Roberto Proietti-Guitar

Wayne De Vecchi-Drums
