For the first time in nearly 15 years, guitarists Michael Gilbert and Ed Carlson will be performing with legendary Arizona thrashers FLOTSAM AND JETSAM for a pair of exclusive Arizona shows. The dates include:
In Fall of 2010, vocalist, Mauro Gonzalez stepped in at the last minute to front Pomona, CA thrash act, BONDED BY BLOOD through a long stretch of touring that only convened towards the end of the year. Because of the tremendous job he did in fronting the band on short notice with little rehearsal through a seemingly never-ending schedule of dates, BONDED BY BLOOD is proud to announce Mauro Gonzalez as a permanent member.
BONDED BY BLOOD bassist, Jerry Garcia states: “We would like to formally announce that Mauro Gonzalez is now officially the new frontman for Bonded By Blood. He has shown great promise and dedication in the past few months and we have received great reviews from many old fans, new fans, and well-established musicians throughout our recent North American trek. We are very excited about our decision and we hope that you guys welcome him into the BBB family like we have! See you guys on the killing road real soon.”
Officially inducted frontman, Mauro and the rest of BONDED BY BLOOD will tear up the road once again starting today on the North American Retribution Tour with DEATH ANGEL and LAZARUS A.D.

On Saturday, January 29th, THE OCEAN will play a unique performance at the Museum für Musikinstrumente at Potsdamer Platz, Berlin. The band will play amidst a collection of historic cembalo from the 16th century. “We will have our piano player Irakli Mamrikishvili with us, who will play on one of these instruments,” said the band in a collective statement, “as well as our live cello player Dalai Theofilopoulou.” The show will also be filmed for an upcoming DVD. Though THE OCEAN will not be playing anything off Anthropocentric during this particular performance, they will be performing some Precambrian tunes they’ve never played before.
THE SHOW IS FREE OF CHARGE (with a “Lange Nacht der Museen”-ticket, which gives you admission to all Berlin museums for the whole night between 6:00pm and 3:00am). For more info, visit: http://www.mim-berlin.de.
Once they were regarded as a glam band, actually somewhat suspicious for “real” metalheads. Today Hardcore Superstar is one of the most successful and respected bands on the Swedish metal hard-rock scene. The turning-point was the band’s eponymous, eventually classic album from 2005. It was succeded by three more highly successful albums, most recently last year’s “Split Your Lip”. The band who descibes their music as a synergy between thrash and sleaze is also a standing favorite of the SRF-crowd’s. In other words, prepare for a crowd gone wild when the band will round off wednesday june 8 and classics like “We Don’t Celebrate Sundays”, “Dreamin’ in a Casket” and “Wild Boys” join forces with fresh faves as “Sadistic Girls” in one great party-mix.

Swedish metallers WOLF have issued the following update:
“This coming weekend will be the end of the recording session of the new WOLF album ‘Legions Of Bastards’. The final lead vocals will be immortalized by Niklas ‘Razorthroat’ Viper and that means we’re done recording.
“We’re VERY excited and fired up to unleash this new album upon the metal community. Preparations for the upcoming [European] tour with ACCEPT and rehearsals are next on the roster so all of us is pulling their weight and we can’t wait to hit the road.”
“Legions Of Bastards” is scheduled for release in April via Century Media Records. The CD was previously described in a press release as “heavy” and “metal.” Nothing more, nothing less. Producer Pelle Saether of Studio Underground in Sweden has given the album a heavy and raw sound that these excellent new tracks deserve. Fans of WOLF’s previous efforts such as “Evil Star”, “The Black Flame” and “Ravenous” will not be disappointed, as the band kept true to its vision of what good ol’ in-your-face heavy metal is about. This Friday night (1/28) at 8PM EST, All Hail Hair will welcome vocalist Brad Slitt and bassist David Brooks, of the band Priscilla! Hosted by Bob Carroll and Francis, the guys will speak to them about the history of Priscilla, the diverse musical experience they both bring to the band, the latest release by Priscilla and what we can expect from the band in the near future. We will also be giving away two copies of the latest release to listeners and we encourage caller participation, so call in at(347) 202-0832.
Priscilla hails from the Cleveland, Ohio area and has been making plenty of noise in the music world. Described as an “underground sleaze” band, they have just released their latest album, “Eight Lives Gone”, on FNA Records. Described in an FNA Records Press release as:
“While digging through the trash, and scoping out the gutters, FnA Records has uncovered its dirtiest, sleaziest, trashiest band to date – Priscilla. Now don’t get us wrong, Priscilla is quite comfortable with these descriptions and even embrace them. They love what they do with a passion and often compare themselves to organized harmonic chaos.
The organized, harmonic chaos that is PRISCILLA will put a bullet into the head of mainstream, commercial music once and for all. As far from the other side of conservative as one can possibly imagine, Priscilla is sweaty, hard, x-rated, pornographic rock n’ roll; destructive, yet, melodic, and always rebellious and cocky.
Priscilla combines forces spawned from the ashes of such luminaries as THE MARKY RAMONE BAND and ST.JAMES (Jaime St.James of Black N’ Blue), PRISCILLA presents a well-oiled and cohesive brand of sleaze rock that is all its own. This band is no corporate-sponsored, family friendly house of cards…this iscode blue suicide played at an eardrum-shattering peak volume and comes to you from the back alleys of the slums. Their sound has been compared to an all night orgy fueled with quaaludes and cocaine, and their look crawls straight from the glam rock gutter.
Lead vocalist BRAD SLITT, looking like a Beverly Hills male prostitute that just spent the last 24 hours on a heroin bender, is akin to an angel with wings that the devil painted black, just as the title track from EIGHT LIVES GONE suggests. A junkie’s wet dream. He is the embodiment of the self-destructive movement of a generation hell bent on conquering the universe with their own backstreet religion, and his vocal delivery is controlled destruction, backed by an all out, high decibel six string assault. Slitt is as much an artist and a visionary as he is a musician. The new messiah of the sleaze generation has arrived.
Having already toured the entire United States and now bent on world domination, PRISCILLA isn’t going away anytime soon. Each and every song on EIGHT LIVES GONE is just as melodic and memorable as it is merciless and methodical with its intent to deconstruct the boundaries of the ordinary rock world and set conventions on their head. Give it just one listen and you’ll be forever infected. These songs are, indeed, 13 anthems for a degenerate world. Toss it down, alter your perception, and throw it back up…PRISCILLA isn’t preaching to the herd…they’re creating an altogether new one.”
Join us as we speak with the guys and get a chance to win a copy of “Eight Lives Gone” by calling in with a great question for the guys at (347) 202-0832
All Hail Hair is broadcast every Friday night at 8 PM EST on the Fightin’ Words Radio Network and is the networks highest rated show. To take part in the show, dial (347) 202-0832. To listen in to the show live and in archive, click here.
Henrik Ostergaard, lead singer for Pennsylvania-based rockers DIRTY LOOKS and current FnA Recording Artist, passed away this morning, Thursday, January 27th, 2011 at 9:18 AM.
The cause of death at this time is unknown and the results of an autopsy are pending.
The rock world will sadly mourn the loss of this 80s hard rocker. Ostergaard, who was of Danish descent, lived in Erie, PA. In 1985, Henrik started the band Dirty Looks. Three independent albums and an EP would soon follow, which led to Dirty Looks getting signed by Atlantic Records. Later in Henrik’s career, he would be signed to Sony Records and most recently FnA Records, where he released a new album, I.C.U., in 2010.
Soulspell Metal Opera is a Brazilian Heavy Metal project led by drummer Heleno Vale. The project’s first album A LEGACY OF HONOR was released in 2008 followed by the second album THE LABYRINTH OF TRUTHS in 2010. The project has appearances from from metal heavyweights such as Roland Grapow (ex-Helloween and Masterplan), Zak Stevens (Circle II Circle, ex-Savatage), Jon Oliva (TSO, ex-Savatage), Blaze Bayley (ex-Iron Maiden), Tim ‘Ripper’ Owens (Yngwie Malmsteen, ex-Judas Priest, ex-Iced Earth, etc.) and some great Brazilian names like Edu Falaschi (Angra) and Nando Fernandes (Hangar). Finnish melancholy rockers AMORPHIS are currently hard at work recording their as-of-yet-untitled follow up to 2009`s Skyforger release. Expect a May 27th release in Europe! Guitarist Esa Holopainen offered the following update:
A little updating on what’s happening in camp Amorphis. The album recordings are running smoothly (whatever that means). We are now working with vocals and again we have Marco Hietala producing Tomi. This time everything else has been done at Sonic Pump Studios except vocals which are currently under work at Marco’s home studio in Kuopio.
We are coming out with roughly 15 new songs and for the album there’s most likely going to be 10-11 tracks. Again it’s a great feeling to start to realize that the songs and ideas which have been in our heads are finally going to see the daylight.
Pekka Kainulainen has worked really hard with lyrics. The album is going to tell the story of the most important character of Finnish mythology and folklore. He is the Finnish god Väinämöinen who was described to be an extremely powerful old wise man who had a magical voice. Some believe that Väinämöinen was creator of the world; an ancient hero and very influential shaman.
Having a subject as strong as this it was pretty obvious that making music for the album was going to be a challenge. There are lots of musical elements which have been heard on previous albums but there are much more. Needless to say that we are keen to give all the material over to Mikko Karmila who is going to start the mixing at the end of this month.
Travis Smith is currently working with the album cover and the coming art looks so far no less than amazing.
“Timeline: The Beginning And End Of Everything”, which was produced by the band’s guitarist/vocalist Ron Vento, marks the recording debut of drummer Mark Green. It will consist of nine tracks and two narratives. The album is a conceptual effort that starts from the beginning of all existence and continues through until the very end of universe and the eventual retraction and rebirth of it all.
“Timeline: The Beginning And End Of Everything” track listing:
Welcoming the rebirth of Sweden ‘s LEKAMEN ILLUSIONEN KALLET (LIK), Nordvis Produktion is pleased to announce that the occult black rock project of multi-instrumentalist/composer Graav had completed work on a new masterpiece entitled The Second Wind. Last summer it was announced that LIK was resurrected and had started working on the follow up to 2007’s self-titled album. The recording was recently finished and everyone is stunned with the results. More details forthcoming. Stay tuned!
X Japan - Left to Right: Sugizo, Toshi, Yoshiki, Heath, Pata
Band In The Studio Recording American Debut
Set for a Late Summer 2011 Release
LOS ANGELES, CA – THURSDAY, January 27, 2011 — X JAPAN, the most successful rock band in Japanese history, and EMI Music have signed an exclusive three-year manufacturing and distribution agreement that will have EMI Label Services handle the band’s releases in North America. The first release will be the track “Jade” on March 15, followed by the band’s as yet untitled American debut set for a late Summer 2011 release.
“We are so honored to have X Japan as part of the EMI Label Services/Caroline family,” commented Mike Harris, Executive Vice President/General Manager, EMI Label Services & Caroline Distribution. “After the highly successful North American tour last fall, the timing is perfect for the upcoming X Japan release.”
Added Dominic Pandiscia, Executive Vice President EMI Music Services North America, “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with X Japan. They have cultivated a strong following in the U.S. and we look forward to working with them, helping to reach even more fans.”
X Japan – Yoshiki/band leader/producer/songwriter/drums and piano, Toshi/vocals, Pata/guitar, Sugizo/guitar and violin, and Heath/bass – is in the studio putting the finishing touches on the album, the band’s first new studio album since 1996 and fifth overall. Half of the songs will be culled from some of the band’s Gold and Platinum Japanese singles; the other half are brand-new songs, and an estimated 95% of the lyrics are being sung in English.
“Some of the songs on this new album were originally written with Japanese lyrics,” Yoshiki explained, “so translating them into English has been challenging. For some reason, English needs more words, so I ended up re-writing many of the lyrics but kept the same message.”
Most of the album has been recorded in Los Angeles at Yoshiki’s own studio. It’s the same studio where Metallica recorded its classic “Black” album, and artists from Van Halen to Michael Jackson to KISS also recorded there before Yoshiki bought it and turned it into a private facility. Yoshiki, who lives in Los Angeles, traveled to Japan a handful of times to record with the rest of the band there. In addition, some of the album has been recorded live over the Internet, with Yoshiki in L.A. and the band’s other members at their studio in Japan.
Added Yoshiki, “X Japan’s music is everything from fast, super-heavy rock to ballads with classical piano – all of those elements are what makes X Japan’s music. We don’t play just one kind of music – we want to take people on a journey.”
The X Japan/EMI agreement comes on the heels of X Japan’s U.S. concert debut last August at Lollapalooza, and the band’s first-ever North American tour that wrapped up on October 10 with a sold out show at New York’s Roseland Ballroom. Many of the new album’s tracks were introduced to western fans when they were performed on the tour, including “Rusty Nail,” “Kurenai,” “I.V.,” “Born To Be Free,” “Endless Rain,” and the album’s first single, “Jade.”
Over the course of the tour’s seven dates, all played in theatre-sized venues, X Japan easily demonstrated why they’ve sold more than 30-million units and filled the 55,000-seat Tokyo Dome a record-setting 18 times. X Japan hadn’t played venues that small in more than 15 years, so they tailored their “stadium-mindset” production to the theaters, making every effort to bring their take-no-prisoners theatrics and spectacular visuals to America. As the SF Weekly put it, “All it took was one show to make it very clear why X Japan is such a phenomenon in its homeland.”
Distribution agreements outside of North America, including Japan, will be announced shortly.
To support the new album, X Japan plans to tour extensively in 2011.
Frost Despair posted live videos of the show at Bar Opinião in Porto Alegre, Brazil, on December 19th, when they played as Cradle of Filth‘s opening act. The band’ set list featured songs from their forthcoming EP, which will be released in a few months. Watch the videos on the following links:
