NYC-based extreme metal unit DIMENTIANON, after a slight break from public appearance, have recently revamped the band’s lineup and are again booking live appearances for the coming months.
The first confirmed DIMENTIANON appearance for 2011 will see them taking part in a brutal Saturday night show at Brooklyn’s deafening The Acheron alongside a collective of other tri-state-based underground metal outfits including Horrifier, Sacrificial Blood, Cain and Brohammer on February 26th [view flyer]. More live actions will be announced in the coming months.
The turbulent, trademark DIMENTIANON style of combining death, black and doom metal elements with eerie atmospherics has been a part of the New York underground scene since the mid ’90s (then known as The Forgotten), but really sank its teeth into the public’s ears in 2010, with the release of the band’s third full-length Collapse The Void. The short but potent release shows the band at their most creative and destructive peak yet, inciting incredible reactions from the underground metal media, and shows the band tackling new approaches to their own “dementia” within the supposed realms of extreme metal.
Camp Freddy Feat. Matt Sorum, Billy Morrison, and Dave Navarro – Hosted by Mark McGrath
Legendary Whisky A Go Go, Roxy and Rainbow Bar & Grill founder and recovering cancer survivor Mario Maglieri is pleased to present an amazing benefit event to create awareness and raise positive vibes in celebration of breast cancer survivor Carolyne Williams.
Carolyne Williams is a 27-year-old breast cancer warrior and advocate. After months of being told that her cancer was just a cyst or an infection, Carolyne discovered the worst: that she was diagnosed with malignant Cystosarcoma Phyllodes while having no health insurance from her part-time job. Cystosarcoma Phyllodes is a sarcoma, a very rare type of breast cancer that accounts for less than 1% of breast cancer diagnosis. Phyllodes currently has no research or support for survivors from the bigger Breast Cancer Foundations, because of its rarity. Phyllodes is made of connective tissue and blood, that forms in the breast that does not respond to chemo or radiation. Sadly, many cases of breast cancer are currently being found in younger girls/women in their teens, 20’s and 30’s, and in many cases they are being misdiagnosed, as Carolyne was. There needs to be more awareness to this growing and sadly silent epidemic.
This benefit is to help raise awareness and spread hope in the darkness of cancer and its effects on families and friends of the infected. The benefit hopes to raise funds in order to help Carolyne with her disease. This unprecedented and special event will include appearances by Camp Freddy featuring Matt Sorum (Guns N’ Roses/Velvet Revolver), Billy Morrison (Billy Idol/The Cult), Dave Navarro (Janes Addiction/Red Hot Chili Peppers), and is hosted by Sugar Ray’s Mark McGrath. Other monumental yet-to-be-named guests will be making appearances, so make sure to head out and support an incredible cause and witness amazing guest showings. The event will take place this Monday, January 24th at the Whiskey A Go Go in West Hollywood, CA. Performing at the event will be Head Cat featuring Lemmy Kilmiste of Motorhead, and Darling Stilettos.
For more information and tickets call M Productions at 310-360-1110.

On Monday, January 17, Swedish black metal overlords WATAIN took home the “Best Hard Rock” award for their Lawless Darkness full-length at Sweden’s annual Grammis ceremony (the Swedish equivalent to the U.S. Grammy Awards).
Comments frontman Erik Danielsson: “I always pictured the criteria for entering the Grammy awards to be those of mainstream music in general; conformity, insipidity and commercial potential. In other words, I was quite surprised when we even got nominated. But considering all the blood, sweat and tears we have put into this, our life’s mission, during the past 13 years, it is by all means an award well deserved. And no matter what the parameters were by which the jury made their decision, the Devil won again.”
“Even if this music genre will always be one with adversity and wild hearted insanity as it’s very roots,” he continues, “the artistic value must be acknowledged not only on an underground level but in any cultural circumstance, high or low. Acknowledged I say, not necessarily appreciated. And in a country like Sweden it is about fucking time, for here it has been neglected and stupefied by the mass media for years, while legends such as Dissection and Bathory have been writing and releasing some of the most monumental albums in music history. The Grammy that we have won with WATAIN is a step towards rectification in that matter, and a sign that the artistry and infernal creativity that permeates WATAIN and this genre is being taken seriously. For that we are proud and delighted in accepting the award. As for it’s market-value or importance in a “music industry context,” we sincerely could not care less.”
Lawless Darkness was released via Season Of Mist on June 7, recorded at Necromorbus Studio (Deathspell Omega, Funeral Mist, Ondskapt et al) in Alvik, Sweden and features cover art by Zbigniew M. Bielak.
In related news, WATAIN was also nominated in the P3 Gold Awards to be held this Saturday in the “rock/metal” category as well as the Manifest Awards on February 4 in the “rock” category.

SCALE THE SUMMIT formed in 2005 while attending the Musicians’ Institute in Los Angeles. The band relocated to Texas in 2006, where they recorded their first, self-released album. After signing with Prosthetic, they released “Carving Desert Canyons”, which Revolver called, “a cinematic blast of intricately melodic fretwork and pummeling percussion,” in 2009.
The band, who received praise from Guitar World for their “tightly-woven guitar interplay, irregular time signatures and tasteful licks,” has toured with the likes of PROTEST THE HERO, BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME, CYNIC, THE DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT and were handpicked by DREAM THEATER to participate in the 2009 installment of their famed “Progressive Nation” festival tour. SCALE THE SUMMIT has also been featured prominently in Guitar Player magazine, and has tracks available for the Rock Band video game through the Rock Band Network.
