ARSIS: To Perform Long Version of “A Diamond For Disease”

November 12th, 2010
by EvilG

Virginia-based melodic tech death metal masters, ARSIS, have announced a very special addition to the bands on their upcoming headlining tour this upcoming December! ARSIS will be performing the title track from A Diamond For Disease in it’s 12+ minute entirety! ARSIS vocalist/guitarist Jim Malone commented:

“We have been scheming among ourselves for quite a while about this, and now it’s finally going to happen. We rehearsed the full version of ‘A Diamond For Disease’ last week and it came together even better than we had hoped! It needed the right tour and the right point in the life of the band, and we would not do it at all unless it was perfect. We’re finally there. So everybody who’s been asking us to play the entire thing every night for years and years… you finally get your (poisonous) medicine this December!”
“A Tour for the Sick” is presented by and will include 8 bit metal heroes POWERGLOVE and the Sumerian Records touring juggernaut CONDUCTING FROM THE GRAVE.

Finnish Metal Sensation, CIRCLE OF CONTEMPT, Continue To Work On New Album Before Embarking On Mandatory Military Leave

November 12th, 2010
by EvilG

The innovative Finnish metal sensation CIRCLE OF CONTEMPT are best known for their brutal assault of technical precision and unhinged rage, but the band will now harness this energy in a different way as they prepare to join the military in order to serve their country.

CIRCLE OF CONTEMPT states: “It’s a very tricky time in camp Contempt right now, with Finland law forcing a military trip for numerous members in January that will result in six months of service. However, until then we are currently hard at work in the rehearsal room laying down the sections for our second album that will definitely turn some heads. We are determined to create a more aggressive, dynamic and mature offering showing our continued growth as a band. Stay tuned to for frequent updates and we will be back in your face before you know it.”

Management representative Carl Sewell adds: “It’s an exciting, yet tricky time right now with members having to take time off touring for their mandatory military session, which means they will be out harder than ever come summer to make up for lost time. The new album is a real step forward and summer 2011 will see the CIRCLE OF CONTEMPT wave of brutality unleashed worldwide.”

CIRCLE OF CONTEMPT’s unrelenting debut album, Artifacts In Motion, afforded the band the opportunity to decimate the masses across the world and garner a devoted legion of diehard fans, but in 2011 they will put their definitive mark on the extreme metal genre.

Ireland’s DARKEST ERA releases recording update

November 12th, 2010
by EvilG

Ireland’s DARKEST ERA releases recording update including studio photos, announces title of upcoming Metal Blade debut

AGOURA HILLS, Calif. – November 11th, 2010 – DARKEST ERA, the heavy metal band based in Northern Ireland and one of Metal Blade’s newest additions to its artist roster, have recently completed work on their forthcoming album titled The Last Caress of Light and have issued the following update:

“It is with great pleasure that we announce we have finished work on our debut album; to be titled The Last Caress of Light. The album is a work of dark, stormy, epic heavy metal that we are proud to release upon the world. Chris Fielding did a fantastic job in capturing the Celtic atmosphere of our songs while bringing out our heavy metal influences from bands like Warlord. We are very excited about it” comments vocalist Krum. Guitarist Sarah Wieghell adds; “It has been an incredible experience recording our debut album for Metal Blade, the songs came out better than even we were expecting. I think we’ve made a really strong record to be proud of, I can’t wait for people to hear it!” In the coming weeks, Metal Blade Records will release more info on DARKEST ERA’s debut release The Last Caress of Light, including street date, track listing, cover art, and song premiers.

“As evident from the likes of ‘Visions of the Dawn’, the group have hit upon a very traditional Metal sound that suits them, and deserve to be commended for it…They’re undoubtedly one of the most promising young bands in the country if you’re a metal maniac in the most traditional sense of the words.”

“Darkest Era isn’t folk in the traditional sense of folk metal… Darkest Era instead go down a more straightforward route and blend elements of doom and folk into a classic heavy metal fold… complete with galloping rhythms, powerful clean vocals, and epic chord progressions… Fans of Primordial and those who like their metal epic need to hear this band.”

“Some great pounding and powerful Epic Metal with some Power Metal references enforced by killer guitars and crystal clear vocals… There is a dark touch spread in all the compositions something that in my opinion is with no doubt the ‘key point’ in the music of this band. Straight in your face and memorable pounding riffing, brilliant lead themes and a skull crushing rhythm section are some more good pieces of their musical puzzle… do not miss this band… TO BATTLE!”

Follow Darkest Era at the following locations:,,,

About Darkest Era:

The band formed under the name “Nemesis” in mid 2005. They wrote their first song, “Battle of Cul Dreimne” at their first full practice. The song had an unintentional Celtic leaning which was to permeate the band’s writing from then on. Originally taking influence from early Iron Maiden, Thin Lizzy and Irish folk music, their self titled demo Nemesis was released in mid 2006. A collection of raw, energetic and twin guitar driven songs, it began to bring the band to the attention of the European true metal underground.

In April 2007, the band decided to change their name to Darkest Era; due mainly to the increasing number of bands using the Nemesis moniker, and also to reflect the changing direction of songwriting. Influences from Doom, Black, and Pagan Metal crept their way into the band and songs became darker with a more epic leaning.

In winter 2007, the band entered the studio to record their 4 song debut EP The Journey Through Damnation. In February 2008, a deal was signed with German label Eyes Like Snow, who produced a run of the EP and distributed it worldwide. The subsequent year saw the band step onto the international stage with hugely successful appearances at a number of European festivals including Fist Held High in Germany, Up the Hammers in Greece and Made in Hell in Italy.

In March 2010, the band announced a limited edition self released digi-pack entitled The Oaks Sessions Containing 3 songs, it once again ignited the interest of the European underground with many new fans from Australia and North America racing to snap up a copy.

With a now Europe wide reputation for their intense, ferocious and engaging live performances, and an original sound which draws fans from the Pagan, Folk and True metal genres, Darkest Era stand ready to bring their epic, Celtic metal to the world stage.

CYNTHESIS Sign To Sensory Records; Original ZERO HOUR Members Reunited

November 12th, 2010
by EvilG

Sensory Records is ecstatic to announce the signing of CYNTHESIS, and the release of their upcoming debut album DeEvolution.

CYNTHESIS is an entirely new band of its own, which also reunites three of the original members of progressive metal purveyors ZERO HOUR — founding twin brothers Jasun and Troy Tipton and original vocalist Erik Rosvold — for the first time on a recording since the band’s heralded 2001 album The Towers of Avarice and 2003’s Metamorphosis, both still considered landmark releases in the progressive metal community. After reaping massive critical acclaim from major international metal media, ZERO HOUR successfully toured Europe and performed at two different ProgPower USA Festivals, the band parted ways with Erik Rosvold, disappointing diehard fans of the band across the globe.

In late 2007, Jasun began writing material for CYNTHESIS. As the music developed he could only imagine one vocalist to really connect to the material. “I’ve always been a fan of Erik’s vocals and I knew his lyric-writing would be a perfect match for the material” explains Jasun. After one phone call Erik was brought into the fold. Rounding out the lineup on drums is longtime friend Sean Flanegan, who not only played on Jasun’s 2000 instrumental release, Night’s Pulse, but is best known for his amazing work with prog rock heroes, Enchant.

Sure to be a label priority for the new year, DeEvolution tells the story of an elite group of leaders from a heavily industrialized city who find, brainwash and then exploit an indigenous tribes shaman, believing he would be the perfect supreme leader. By propping him up as possessing all the answers to societies ills the elites use him in order to gain and keep more control over the masses. They plan to influence the masses on several fronts: religion, media, consumerism, government. Jasun Tipton adds “Cynthesis allows us to explore new creative venues which provides a deeper listen. The band is very proud of DeEvolution.”

DeEvolution and is in the process of being mixed by talented producer/engineer Dino Alden (Marty Friedman, Tony MacAlpine, Vinnie Moore, Zero Hour), and the artwork commissioned to Dennis “Damn Engine” Sibeijn (Exodus, Dragonforce, Lamb of God, Him, etc.) coming together for worldwide release sometime via Sensory Records during the spring months of 2011.

Jasun Tipton – Guitars and Keys

Troy Tipton – Bass

Erik Rosvold – Vocals

Sean Flanegan – Drums

Stay tuned for more updates on CYNTHESIS over the coming months as we announce more info in preparation of DeEvolution!

DIABOLIC added to Goregrowler’s Ball IV

November 12th, 2010
by EvilG

Long-running Florida death metallers DIABOLIC have been confirmed and added to this year’s Goregrowler’s Ball in San Antonio, TX on Friday, November 12th. DIABOLIC’s addition to the fest comes after the last minute cancellation of Friday night headliners, SATHANAS.

Goregrowler’s Ball IV will be held at Bond’s 007 Rock Bar 450 Soledad in San Antonio, TX. For tickets or more information, visit

Legendary death metal act DIABOLIC released its first full-length album since 2003’s Infinity Through Purification on June 8, 2010, through Deathgasm Records. Entitled Excisions of Exorcisms, the new album is a nuclear explosion of Satanic death metal performed at reckless speeds and inclusive of the band’s most dynamic songwriting to date. Along with a blistering production from world renowned engineer Juan “Punchy” Gonzalez (MORBID ANGEL, TERRORIZER, UNHOLY GHOST) and brilliantly iniquitous cover art from the one and only Joe Petagno (MOTORHEAD, KRISIUN, ANGEL CORPSE, MARDUK), Excisions of Exorcisms is death metal par excellence; brutal, uncompromising, and evil as Hell.

DIABOLIC’s current lineup includes founding members Aantar Coates (drums), Paul Ouellette (bass, vocals), and guitarists Kelly McLauchlin (UNHOLY GHOST, PESSIMIST) and Jeff Parrish (BLASTMASTERS).

Torture Division Announces Evighetens Dårar CD Release Party

November 12th, 2010
by EvilG

Demigods of Swedish death metal, TORTURE DIVISION will be bringing their battle-tested brand of brutality to the stage in celebration of their latest offering, Evighetens Dårar. The show will take place on November 12th at The Metal Club in Karlstad, Sweden and will feature performances by KARENSDAG, HADDOCK, OLAGA HOT, DAMIEN and THE LAW. Details can be found on The Metal Club’s website ( in Swedish).

In a statement taken from the band’s website, TORTURE DIVISION mainman Lord K. Philipson had the following to say regarding the gig:

“We just started to rehearse individually for this coming gig, the first one since we played Getaway Festival this summer. To say we are stoked to get back on stage is an understatement. We will premiere a song or 2 that we haven’t played live before and the first time we will do it together is when we are on the actual stage. We like that shit.

I just played thru the set we have planned for the gig and it’s fucken insane how these songs still lurk somewhere back in my mind some 5 months after last playing them on the guitar. It went real smooth and now I will work it like I always do; play thru the set at least once a day until the date of the gig arrives. Then me and Tobben might do a soundcheck (J works and will get to the place of the gig like an hour before the gig so we have no time to soundcheck all of us), if not – hey, well… it’s not the first time we work it like this, haha…

We will have albums for sale at this concert, as well as some brand new merch – so bring yer cash and support TD so we can record more music and buy tons of beers. Make us the first death metal millionaires, ok?

That’s it. See ya in Karlstad. We are fucken dying to play for you guys.”

Evighetens Dårar is now available through Abyss Records. The Digi-CD compiles material from the trio’s Evighetens Dårar I (2009), Evighetens Dårar II (2010), and Evighetens Dårar III (2010) demos and was mixed/mastered by Dan Swano at Unisound Studios. In preparation for the release, TORTURE DIVISION has posted several tracks from the album, including “Traumatic Inhuman Severance,” “Total Death Punishment” and “Overtorture (Bound To Be Dead)” on their myspace page. Go to to listen. The band’s US label, Abyss Records is currently streaming “Heretics! Now!” on their myspace page. Go to for selections from several Abyss Records’ artists.

Evighetens Dårar is the second compilation of demos from the fiercely independent band to see release through Abyss Records in the States. The label released With Endless Wrath We Bring Upon Thee Our Infernal Torture in 2009, which compiled TORTURE DIVISION’s first three demos, also known as Trilogy. Abyss Records is also the proud carrier of official TORTURE DIVISION merchandise. Visit for details.

In just two weeks, Sweden’s most successful Heavy Metal band HAMMERFALL will enter the studio to record the follow up to their gold album “No Sacrifice, No Victory”. The songwriting is almost finished, and guitarist Oscar Dronjak reveals: “The new material contains a lot of fresh ways to look at the musical ideas, we’re trying to preserve the essence of what HammerFall is while at the same time updating the execution and approach. Definitely heavier and less straight forward than the previous albums, yet remaining true to what we believe heavy metal is all about.”

Expect the unexpected! The quintet also decided to work with a new producer, which is significant since the last four albums have been produced by Charlie Bauerfeind. The choice fell on James Michael, who recently worked with MÖTLEY CRÜE, SCORPIONS, MEAT LOAF and others. James Michael comments: “We are about to make a fantastic album. The band is firing on all cylinders and I am excited to be part of this project.”

Oscar Dronjak explains: “Working with James Michael is going to be very, very exciting. The two Mötley Crüe album James has been involved in (songwriter on “New Tattoo” and songwriter/producer on “Saints Of Los Angeles”) are great, and easily stack up against the classic albums of the 80’s. That, and the fact that HammerFall have used the same producer (Charlie Bauerfeind) since 2002 has me very psyched about this collaboration, it will automatically bring a freshness to the proceedings! A lot of what HF was got refined when we started working with Charlie, and I’m sure we’ll get a similar kind of reaction here. Sort of like a kick in the ass, to get going in the right direction.”

Vocalist Joacim Cans adds another important aspect: “I see James Michael as one of my favorite singers of today and his work with SIXX:AM is simply fantastic. Not only is the album one of the best ever made production-wise, but James also delivers a vocal performance that most singers today are not capable of. James will be the perfect co-producer for us and I really think he will be able to get me up a notch in the vocal department”

The yet untitled record will be released in Europe on May 20th.

The 3rd of November 2010

Kuudes Linja Helsinki Finland

Review and photos by Arto Lehtinen

Last spring Jex Thoth offered a real ethereal occultism rock experience at Roadburn. Therefore, the obvious interest to testify Jex Thoth now in Finland was definitely a must to see experience. The band sounded amazing at Roadburn – extremely catchy and didn’t let anyone down. The gig in Helsinki was definitely an entire highlight and above all magical.
