FIREWIND – Special Gus G. guitar-contest presented by Guitar (DE) and Top Guitar (PL) launched online!

Greek melodic Metallers FIREWIND, lead by guitar-virtuoso Gus G., continue to promote their latest killer album release “Days Of Defiance” around the globe and have now launched a very special online contest:

Presented by the Guitar magazine (Germany) and Top Guitar magazine (Poland), Gus G. showcases some of his breathtaking playing techniques in a clip that invites other talented players to reproduce the piece as video recording on their own in order qualify to be handpicked by Gus to win one of his ESP Ltd. signature model guitars as well as a Blackstar HT 5S Ministack Amp. Additionally FIREWIND shirts will be given away too…

The contest runs up to April 15th, 2011, so find more details and get ready for some quality shredding right here (or watch it below):

Gus G. checks in as follows: Hi all, just wanted to give you a little update on what’s been going on in our world lately. Although I’ve been on tour in N. America rocking on Ozzy Osbourne’s side the past few months, FIREWIND have been working on our upcoming plans and we really need you to stay tuned for this one, cause this Spring super cool news are coming your way and they involve a new video & single, tourdates (I know our fans have been waiting for these…) + even more cool stuff!

But we thought we’d start out by giving away some gear, cause that’s how cool our camp & endorsement partners are! So, check out the video contest that Century Media put together. The idea is very cool, all you gotta do is just play one (or actually a few) of my licks as demonstrated on the video and post them online. I’ll check them ALL out and pick the winner who will get my signature ESP guitar and a very cool HT-5 Blackstar amp!

I’m always very flattered when I hear from guitar players that my music and playing inspires and influences them. I’d love to see your videos ripping on these licks and hopefully you’ll be the lucky one!”

FIREWIND have recently been confirmed to appear with the song “World On Fire” as part of a new ten-song mega pack in February for Activision Publishing’s “Guitar Hero: Warriors Of Rock” alongside Children Of Bodom, Black Label Society and others. QUEENSRYCHE Currently In The Studio Wrapping Up “Bob”

February 24th, 2011
by Celtic Bob

Geoff Tate, Michael Wilton, Eddie Jackson, Scott Rockenfield and Parker Lundgren — collectively and collaboratively known as the rock band, Queensryche — recently entered the studio to lay down what will be the band’s first studio recording since their ambitious American Soldier project in March of 2009.

Due out on Roadrunner/Loud & Proud Records later this spring, the working title of the forthcoming effort is once again “Bob.”

“Our very first demo was recorded on a cassette tape by a guy named Bob,” explains front man Geoff Tate. “We’ve kept that tradition ever since and, to this day, put all of our demos in the original case labeled ‘Bob’ until we actually have an album title.”

Very superstitious, indeed.

The project has been a true meeting of the creative minds since it began earlier this year.

And if you think you know “Bob,” think again…

The tentative moniker certainly wasn’t meant to be a palindrome like Black Sabbath’s Live Evil… that’s just they way it turned out.

“We’ll certainly have the name of the album soon,” states Tate. “In the mean time, we hope you’re getting ready to welcome ‘Bob’ into your own, individual rock universe.”

Coming soon.

MR. BIG New Release «What If… »

February 24th, 2011
by Celtic Bob

MR. BIG is back with their highly anticipated new studio album entitled « What If… » out now on Frontiers Records.

«What If… » is MR. BIG’s first all original album since the reunion of the four original members,  Eric Martin, Paul Gilbert, Billy Sheehan and Pat Torpey back in early 2009. Sixteen years after the release of « Hey Man », the new recording is set to bring back MR. BIG on the height of the current Hard Rock scene.

Guitarist Paul Gilbert said: “This is the first MR. BIG album I have been a part of, since fourteen years and it was done in a snap. It was fun and we had really a  good time in making this one”. Continues Billy Sheehan “It’s so great to be back with Paul, Eric and Pat too. We wrote this record like we did in the old days for the first 2 records. Jamming together in the same room to write songs”. Pat Torpey adds ““Some of the recording process is different now from what we were used to in the old times. But I think this record really managed to capture the performances of the band, not of the individual musicians”.

Eric Martin concludes: “I like to compare this to the first album, when we just got to know each other in a reharsal studio and cut it in 8 or 9 days. This is like chapter 2. We had so many years, so many records and so many things behind us. Now this feels like a beautiful brand new chapter starting for all of us”.

« What If… » was produced by Kevin Shirley (Aerosmith, Rush, Iron Maiden)  and the release will be followed by a World Tour which will kick off in South America in March and will hit Europe in early summer.

Formed in 1988, Mr. Big forged its place in hard rock history by combining trademark “shredding” musicianship with awesome vocal harmonies. The original line-up – vocalist Eric Martin, guitarist Paul Gilbert, bassist Billy Sheehan, and drummer Pat Torpey. Mr. Big produced numerous hit songs that ranged across a wide array of rock genres – be it ballads, heavy metal, or blues rock.

Their hits included “To Be With You” (Billboard Hot 100 number one single in 15 countries for weeks, in 1991, propelling the band the band to huge international success and record sales in the multi-millions), “Wild World”, Green-Tinted sixties Mind”, “Just Take My Heart”, and a host of heavy metal songs that were played mostly during their live performances: “Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy”, “Addicted to that Rush”, “Colorado Bulldog”, and “Take Cover”.

“What If…” will be released in a special edition CD + DVD in digipak, regular CD, vinyl and digital download and in a limited edition luxury box including the CD, DVD, LP and exclusive memorabilia.

“What If…” tracklisting includes: Undertow; American Beauty; Stranger In My Life; Nobody Takes the Blame; Still Ain’t Enough for Me; Once Upon a Time; As Far As I Can See; All The Way Up; I Won’t Get In My Way; Around The World; I Get The Feeling; Unforgiven (exclusive bonus track for Europe / North America – not on vinyl edition).

The DVD will include the videoclips of “Undertow” and “All the Way Up” plus a documentary “Making of” the album including interviews and exclusive behind the scenes features of the four members.

EPICA Guitarist’s MAYAN: First Audio Sample Released

February 24th, 2011
by EvilG

The first audio sample of “Quarterpast”, the debut album from MAYAN, the new band featuring EPICA guitarist/songwriter Mark Jansen alongside Jack Driessen (ex-AFTER FOREVER) and Frank Schiphorst, can be streamed using the audio player below.

MaYaN – teaser

“Quarterpast” will be released on May 20 via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD is being recorded and mixed by Sascha Paeth (EPICA, KAMELOT).

“Quarterpast” will feature vocal contributions from the following musicians:

* Mark Jansen (EPICA, ex-AFTER FOREVER)

* Ariën van Weesenbeek (EPICA)

* Jack Driessen (ex-AFTER FOREVER)

* Floor Jansen (REVAMP, ex-AFTER FOREVER)

* Simone Simons (EPICA)

* Henning Basse (SONS OF SEASONS)

* Laura Macrì (Italian opera singer)

Due to his “very busy schedule,” bassist Jeroen Paul Thesseling (PESTILENCE, OBSCURA) recently left MAYAN and was replaced by Rob van der Loo (ex-SUN CAGED, DELAIN).

In a recent interview with The Great Southern Brainfart, Mark Jansen stated about MAYAN, “It started as just something for fun but soon it grew into something that had to be perfect as well. I thought it was just for fun to make music with old friends but now it’s as serious for me as EPICA is. Of course, EPICA remains my priority band and that’s the band that’s doing the most of the tours but MAYAN will fill in the gaps and maybe we will do some touring with EPICA in the future.”

When asked if the MAYAN material will — conceptually and lyrically — be similar to EPICA, Mark replied, “Lyrically, you will find a lot of comparisons because it’s my style of writing. I didn’t attempt to write about completely different stuff. It could have been lyrics for an EPICA CD as well but music-wise it’s completely different. It contains way more grunts and it’s way more heavy. It is still symphonic because I love that kind of music. It’s like a mixture of SYMPHONY X and OPETH style. That kind of direction.”

* Mark Jansen (EPICA, ex-AFTER FOREVER) – Guitar, Vocals

* Jack Driessen (ex-AFTER FOREVER) – Keyboards

* Frank Schiphorst – Guitar, Vocals

* Rob van der Loo (ex-SUN CAGED, DELAIN) – Bass

* Isaac Delahaye (EPICA) – Guitar

* Ariën van Weesenbeek (EPICA) – Drums

WARBRINGER Announce New Drummer

February 23rd, 2011
by EvilG

Despite practicing and writing together the last two months WARBRINGER today make it publically official that Carlos Cruz (Hexen) is their new drummer. The delay in announcement was out of respect to their old drummer and Carlos’ former band mates and there was no question about Carlos’ playing, songwriting or personality as the band ironically offered Carlos the spot in 2008.

“After years of putting forth nothing but blood, sweat, and tears into my tireless ambitions for playing music, I have finally found an outlet where no more time is wasted. It was flattering to have been approached by Warbringer the first time they made a personnel change in 2008, but this time around it couldn’t have felt more like perfect timing,” states Carlos. “They’re a collective group of humble, open-minded, down-to-earth guys who share the same fanaticism for music as I do and are the tightest musicians I have ever played with. I’ve never felt so welcomed and inspired to move forward. Even past members of the band have congratulated me and it feels very much like family, not just another band. From some recent serious downfalls in my personal life came this beautiful opportunity and I couldn’t be happier. We’ll be seeing all YOU Warbringers out on the road soon!”

Fans can see Carlos playing with the guys at his live debut in Mexico City on March 5th at the Eyescream Festival alongside Asesino, Anvil, Toxic Holocaust and Abigail Williams. WARBRINGER plan to record their third album in April with more live shows in May and June.

CYNTHESIS Album Details And Cover Art Unveiled

February 23rd, 2011
by EvilG

DeEvolution, the anticipated debut full-length from CYNTHESIS, is set for worldwide release via Sensory Records on April 19th, 2011.

A label priority for Sensory this year, the magnificent DeEvolution tells the story of an elite group of leaders from a heavily industrialized city who find, brainwash and then exploit an indigenous tribes’ shaman, believing he would be the perfect supreme leader. By propping him up as possessing all the answers to society’s ills, the elites use him in order to gain and keep more control over the masses in order to influence the masses via religion, media, consumerism and government.

Check out the brilliant cover artwork for DeEvolution created by Dennis “Damn Engine” Sibeijn (Exodus, Dragonforce, Lamb of God, Him) at this location.

DeEvolution Track Listing:

1. The Man Without Skin
2. Incision
3. Divided Day
4. Shallow World
5. Profits Of Disaster
6. The Edifice Grin
7. Twilight
8. A Song Of Unrest

CYNTHESIS reunites three original members of progressive metal heroes Zero Hour — founding twin brothers Jasun and Troy Tipton and original vocalist Erik Rosvold — for the first time on a recording since their heralded albums The Towers of Avarice [2001] and Metamorphosis [2003], both considered landmark releases in the progressive metal community. DeEvolution was recorded and produced in 2010 by Dino Alden (Marty Friedman, Tony MacAlpine, Vinnie Moore, Zero Hour), and while trademark styles of both the Tipton Brothers and Rosvold shine heavily throughout the release, over the course of eight epic anthems, it is very clear by more relaxed pace and epic story of DeEvolution that this is NOT a new Zero Hour album.

Promos of DeEvolution will be available to North and South American journalists in mere days, and interviews with the members of CYNTHESIS will begin immediately afterward! Get in touch with Earsplit PR with all press requests.
