Original Vicious Rumors bassist/WildeStarr guitarist Dave Starr In WildeStarr

April 29th, 2011
by EvilG

Original Vicious Rumors bassist/WildeStarr guitarist Dave Starr press release 4-28-11

There are a few things I would like to address and clear up regarding VR. I have received numerous e-mails asking why I am not playing at the upcoming VR reunion at the KIT Festival this weekend in Germany. As most of you know, VR has been a big part of my life and I played on all the bands greatest CD’s, tours and videos. I spent close to 12 years in the band. My time with VR was and always will be a important to me. Having said that, under the current conditions in the band, it is not possible for me to do this reunion show.

The problems go back to right after the recording of the last VR CD “WARBALL” (2006). At that time I went back to work on my current band WildeStarr. Singer London Wilde and I were working on songs for our debut CD ARRIVAL that would come out in late 2009. In 2006 VR drummer Larry Howe was paid in full by London to play on our debut album. He agreed to do it, and we gave him demo songs to work on until we were ready to begin recording. In 2007 we contacted Larry and told him we were ready to book studio time and this is when he told us that he decided not to play on our CD. Not only did he change his mind, but he kept the money he was paid for the recording. He also sent us threatening and hostile e-mails and phone messages warning us not to take any legal action against him or he would “retaliate” against us. All of these messages have been saved and documented. We were forced to hire another drummer for our CD, and essentially had to pay twice for drum tracks.

I told VR guitarist Geoff Thorpe that because of Larry’s actions and behavior, I would not have anything further to do with VR in the future as long as Larry Howe was involved. Geoff said he understood, and would do what he could to try and convince Larry to straighten things out with London and I. Nothing ever came of this.

In early 2010, Geoff Thorpe asked me about playing at the 2011 KIT Festival. This would have been the first time the 4 surviving members of the band would have played together since 1993. I told Geoff that nothing has changed at all with Larry, so I would not do the show. Geoff again said he would talk to Larry. Geoff asked me over and over throughout 2010 about doing the show, but my answer was always the same. I would love to do the show, but Larry needs to return the money he was paid and apologize in person to London and I. Once these two things were done, all would be forgiven and I would be willing to talk about doing the show. No apology ever came. No money was ever returned to us. I finally had to tell Geoff that I was tired of talking about this and not to ask me about the reunion show again. Geoff said he was really upset, and that he really wanted the VR reunion show at KIT to happen. He said he would go ahead and find a fill in bassist, and I told him to do whatever he had to do. This situation with Larry has obviously strained the relationship between Geoff and I.

I have no bitterness or sour grapes about any of this. Larry has serious substance abuse issues that cloud his judgment, and that is not something that I am angry about. If anything, I feel sorry for Larry. I have been 100% clean and sober for 6 years now, so I know the damage drugs and alcohol can do to oneself (and your relationship with others) as well as the liberation of being free from the hell of addiction. I only hope that Larry can somehow find the inner peace and freedom that I have found.

In closing, I would like to thank all the great VR fans over they years for their love and support. Many of you have followed me since the early days of “Soldiers of the Night”, all the way through to “WarBall” and now, with what I am doing on guitar with WildeStarr.

London and I (along with new drummer Josh Foster) are hard at work on the new WildeStarr CD “A tell tale Heart” that will be out later this year. Our first CD “ARRIVAL” received incredible reviews worldwide, and London and I both agree that the new CD will be even stronger. We will have a slightly darker and more aggressive sound this time around, yet retaining the same heaviness and Halford like vocals combined with dramatic and orchestrated harmony guitars.

Dave Starr 4-28-011

UFO guitarist Vinnie Moore says this about WildeStarr “Arrival”….

“Dave and London open up a big ole can of melodic heavy metal whoop ass on this one. At times the tunes remind me a little of Dream Theater. Dave has made a great transition from bassist to guitarist. This CD definitely rocks heavily!”

Vicious Rumors guitarist Geoff Thorpe says….

“Its great to see Dave and London lay it down like this!! After working with Dave in Vicious Rumors for so many years I can’t say I’m surprised at how great this new WildeStarr CD is. Dave has always been very serious and focused and has transformed himself into a killer guitarist. London sounds like the new Queen of heavy metal vocals and the Arrival Cd flat out kicks ass!!!”

Metal guitar legend and virtuoso DAVID CHASTAIN says…..

“WildeStarr ‘Arrival’ is the best debut release I’ve heard so far in 2009. Newcomer vocalist London Wilde gives a star making performance.”

Michael Fischer from KNAC.COM says….

“WildeStarr “Arrival” is a Progressive Rock Masterpiece! Hands down this is the best record of 2009! WildeStarr has a sound and chemistry that rivals Mercyful Fate and Dream Theater and a presentation that stands alongside records like Queensryche’s Operation Mindcrime.”

BURRN! Magazine from Japan says….

“WildeStarr plays symphonic and authentic heavy metal….. Their sound reminds me of JUDAS PRIEST, CRIMSON GLORY, of course, VICIOUS RUMORS…. 4.5 out of 5 stars!!”

VOIVOD - Warriors Of Ice

VOIVOD - Warriors Of Ice

Canadian metallers VOIVOD have launched Warriors Of Ice, a live album recorded in Montreal. The album is now available digitally and the physical release date is set for June 14th via Indica Records.

This unique band who over the years have been able to create their own sound and path, who braved adversity and hardships – notably the death of Denis Piggy D’Amour in 2005 – are offering to their fans their first ever live record to feature original members Denis “Snake” Belanger, Michel “Away” Langevin and Jean Yves “Blacky” Theriault, and new guitar player Daniel Mongrain, thus adding onto their impressive discography that spans close to three decades.

Glen Robinson, who is renown for his work on ‘Nothingface’, recorded Voivod’s concert on December 12th 2009 at Club Soda in Montreal, the band’s adopted hometown. The concert was the first headline show in Montreal in over 10 years and was a release party for the DVD Tatsumaki Live In Japan, where they played both classics from the 80s and 90s and newer songs written with Jason Newsted of METALLICA fame, who joined Voivod on bass for 3 records, Voivod, Katorz and Infini.

On Warriors Of Ice, the listeners can hear Voivod’s more classical sound as they did on War And Pain in 1984 or Angel Rat in 1991 as well as tracks from Infini, released in 2009. All of the band’s greatest hits can be found on this record, everything from ‘Voivod’ to ‘Nuclear War’ and ‘Tribal Conversations’ and even their remake of early PINK FLOYD, ‘Astronomy Domine’, thus making this record a must-have for die-hard Voivod fans as well as a great introductory album for new fans in the making.

Voivod is currently on tour across Europe until late May and will be coming back to North America just in time for the festival season. Tour dates to be announced shortly, stay tuned.

Warriors Of Ice tracklisting:

‘The Unknown Knows’

‘The Prow’

‘Ripping Headaches’

‘Ravenous Medicine’

‘Tribal Convictions’

‘Global Warning’

‘Treasure Chase’

Seventh Wonder announce new drummer

April 28th, 2011
by EvilG
Seventh Wonder

Seventh Wonder

Swedish progressive metal act Seventh Wonder after a long search are pleased to confirm Stefan Norgren (ex Lion’s Share) as their new permanent drummer after a long search to replace the departed Johnny Sandin.

Stefan is an experienced musician who was educated at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, has been a teacher and drum instructor for many years, possesses a great voice and also plays piano and guitar. Stefan brings a slightly heavier, angrier and more groove based drumming approach to the band.

On his appointment to Seventh Wonder Stefan comments: “I can’t wait to take on this challenge. Johnny´s work is insane so listening to the bands back catalogue and learning the drum parts has been both exciting and scary. My philosophy will be to stay true to the original drums while adding my personal touch.”

On Stefan’s arrival in the band Seventh Wonder guitarist Johan Liefvendahl comments: “When he walked in we instantly hit it off personally, which is very important in any band. We spent the day jamming and he auditioned a few SW songs and we all felt that what he brought was just what we were looking for. We’re very happy to have him aboard!”

Keyboard player Andreas Söderin adds: “Obviously, not having a drummer all these months had in a way brought the band to a standstill. When Stefan set up his gear and began tearing it up with us that day it was kind of like a rocket launch for us. Seventh Wonder is now at full speed ahead!”

Seventh Wonder released their fourth album “The Great Escape” in December 2011 on Lion Music. The video for the track “Alley Cat” from that release has seen over 130k views on YouTube.

Seventh Wonder will be headlining the prestigious PROGPOWER EUROPE Festival on Friday September 30.
