“Evil in MERCILESS DEATH”
Interview by Luxi Lahtinen
Merciless Death, this relentless 3-piece old school Speed/Thrash Metal act, hails from Canyon Country, California. The band´s full-length debut, EVIL IN THE NIGHT, was unleashed a short while ago via Heavy Artillery Records. Merciless Death have made themselves known mainly around the LA area by their furious shows that they have been playing with many other rising local forces. There, they have been successfully introducing their ever-growing and strong thrashing muscles for wild crowds, and overall getting their name stamped on people´s foreheads.
Merciless Death´s guitarizt Dan Holder talks more about their world thrash domination to Metal-Rules.com when it got started and where it has led to them thus far. Now let´s enter Dan…

AEROSMITH
07.07 2007
Hartwall Arena, Helsinki
The Boston based Aerosmith was one of the biggest rock bands of the ’70s. Even then the band had a unique ability to pull off both ballads and rockers which brought them a string of gold and platinum albums. “Toys in the Attic”, “Rocks” and “Draw the Line” amongst others are undeniable classics. After a while though, things started to change. In the early ’80s, the group lost their original lineup and soon after their audiences started to dissipate while some of the members suffered from serious intoxicant problems. As a result they were nearly destroyed, but somehow managed to pull their act together and in the late ’80s accomplish one of the most successful comebacks in history. Returning to the top of the charts with a series of albums like “Pump” and “Get a Grip”, with the help of MTV, they even managed to top the sales of their ’70s albums. To this day Aerosmith remains one of the biggest live acts in the rock world.

Lordi is a band that was largely unknown outside the borders of Finland until their victory in last year’s Eurovision song contest boosted them into instant stardom. Despite their elaborate monster costumes, characters and stage shows, Lordi surprised many with their melodic hard rock with super catchy choruses. I was able to have a chat with the drummer for Lordi, who goes under the name Kita, right before they kicked into their quest to bring the balls back to the Ozzfest mainstage.

Sven Gali: 1987-1994
Report by Celtic Bob, December 2005
Sven Gali was formed in 1987 around Hamilton, Ontario. Canada. Starting out as a cover band they quickly earned a reputation for their amazing and energetic live shows. By the turn of the decade they were snatched up by BMG Music and started to record their self titled debut album. In 1992 the disc hits the streets and is received with open arms. In a time where Grunge is just starting to make its way into the mainstream this was a welcomed treat to the Hard Rock/ Metal world. Despite a stellar debut and a solid follow-up in 1994 the scene changed and the band parted ways and quickly became one for the “Where Are They Now” files!

SCOTTI HILL
Skid Row was one of the last hard rock bands to hit the mainstream before grunge took over in the early ’90s. The band’s self titled debut album was released in 1989 and it included such classic chart topping songs as songs as “18 and Life”, “I Remember You” and “Youth Gone Wild”. Skid Row then consisted of; vocalist Sebastian Bach, guitarists Scotti Hill and Dave “Snake” Sabo, bassist Rachel Bolan and drummer Rob Affuso – released their second album; SLAVE TO THE GRIND in 1991 and things were going even better then. They did their own headline tours across the world and album was selling even better than the first album, it went into number one in Billboard 200 list. But things started to change soon. There was a lot of bad blood between band members prior the release of third album SUBHUMAN RACE and as a result band broke up in late 1995. There was nothing happening in the world of Skid Row until the year 2000 when the band announced their plans to re-unite and go on tour as a support act for KISS. As a surprise for many, Sebastian Bach wasn’t in the line up anymore. The new incarnation of Skid Row included Texas native vocalist Johnny Solinger and drummer Phil Varone (ex -Saigon Kick) among originals; Snake, Scotti and Rachel. That lineup released album THICKSKIN in 2003. Two years later Phil Varone was out and in 2006 band released their latest album REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE with new drummer Dave Gara on their ranks. Skid Row has gone through both good and difficult times but what’s most important, they’re here now and the show goes on. In June I met band guitarist Scotti Hill at the Swedenrock festival just prior bands show. Here are the results of our rather long discussion about the past and present of Skid Row, grunge, Rocklahoma, the state of hard rock in the U.S.A., among many other topics… read on!!!

Guitarist Patrick “Evil” of SATAN´S HOST Interview by Luxi Lahtinen
Even if this demonic and notorious incarnation called Satan´s Host – from the majestic mile-high mountains of Colorado, have been around for over 20 years, spreading their satanic message for metal brothers and sisters around the world, only a minority of people have found them. METAL FROM HELL (released on vinyl only in 1986 by now defunct Web Records), being the band´s debut as well as most known album that featured Leviathan Thisires (aka Harry Conklin) from Jag Panzer, was the very album that dragged the band´s name out from the dark catacombs into the daylight for a mass of people. Harry Conklin also sang on the band´s 2nd abum MIDNIGHT WIND, which was unfortunately never released because Web Records went bankrupt. Hence it was no wonder why the album was also bootlegged back in the day.
The following years, actually the period of 1988-94, Satan´s Host was in a sort of state of self-seclusion where the whole Satan´s Host Grotto was manifesting its magick, having also a new vocalist in the ranks, Eli Elixir replacing Harry Conklin who left the band after the MIDNIGHT WIND (still unreleased) album. The band had already started incorporating from the traditional pre-Power Metal sound they had in the very beginning – toward a much heavier and darker direction at that time, evolving into a Black/Death Metal act that they are nowadays, with very strong satanic themes.
It´s 2007, and I got a chance to talk to Patrick “Evil” (the guitarist in Satan´s Host) nearly about everything between heaven and hell – and especially the band´s latest work, SATANIC GRIMOIRE: A GREATER BLACK MAGICK.
