Californian thrashers BONDED BY BLOOD recently wrapped up a European co-headlining tour with LAZARUS A.D., and are now back home and preparing for a North American trek supporting SEPULTURA.

BONDED BY BLOOD have announced that BRANDON GULLING (MALUS REX, AVENGER OF BLOOD) and BEN BENNET (SMOG, WARBRINGER) will be filling in on the tour for amicably departing members ALEX LEE (guitar) and JERRY GARCIA (bass) respectively.

Remaining BONDED BY BLOOD members CARLOS REGALADO, JUAN JUAREZ and MAURO GONZALEZ have released the following statement:

“Bonded By Blood has gone through so many changes in the last couple of years while playing amazing festivals, touring the entire United States, Europe and Canada dozens of times, and enjoying the time with new and old friends and fans all over the world who mean the most to us.  We first lost our original bass player, Ruben Dominguez back in 2009, then singer Jose Barrales left the band in 2010, but each was replaced with new members and the group marched on.  Now, we regret to announce that Alex Lee (guitar) and Jerry Garcia (bass) are also stepping away from BBB.  We will miss them just as much as we miss Ruben and Jose, and this band will not be the same without them, but the three of us that are left in Bonded By Blood hope that everyone who enjoys this band can understand that changes are inevitable.  As much as we want to keep an ‘original line-up’, things happen that you just can’t control.

“We hope all our friends, fans and fellow musicians can still give us the warm welcome we always received and still support us in these hard times while we rebuild the band as we all need all the support we can get.  Thankfully, some new friends stepped up and are working hard to help us do the Sepultura tour, so big thanks to Ben Bennet (from Smog and formerly Warbringer) and Brandon Gulling (of Malus Rex and the recently reformed Avenger of Blood), who will be filling in on bass and rhythm guitar respectively while we keep together what is left of Bonded By Blood.  We hope to see you all on the road again; it’s not going to be the same without our old friends up there with us… But shit happens.”

ALEX LEE comments:

“With Jose leaving the band followed by my own parting, I want to assure you all that it is not a coincidence, nor is it a fluke.  Being a guitarist, I have always been interested in playing other styles of music and not only thrash.  Don’t get me wrong, I love my thrash music, but I honestly see myself being suited better with another band or type of music than what I have been doing with Bonded By Blood.  It has been one of the hardest decisions of my life, due to the fact that this was the first band that I was in or established, but now I feel that it’s my time to move on and to continue my progress on a new path.  I wish Bonded the best of luck and I know they can succeed.  As for the fans, I know they won’t truly understand, they can either hate me or follow me, but I hope they will continue listening to and seeing Bonded live, for I believe that they will hold strong for years to come.  You guys were the best and thanks for the great years!”

JERRY GARCIA comments:

“Being part of Bonded By Blood for almost two years now has been the best experience of my life.  I’ve seen and done things that I could have only dreamed of.  I had the honor of sharing the stage with some of the most talented musicians in the world, including the ones in my band.  Everything I experienced will be something that I will cherish for a lifetime.  However, as time goes by and life begins to unfold, certain things begin to become very evident and downright inevitable.  Bonded By Blood is more than just a band, it’s a spirit and it transcends any single individual person or band member.

“I want to thank each and every single one of you that ever supported me and the guys in doing what we do best in life, and that is music.  There is no better feeling in the world than to bring happiness to someone through music.  It is an incredibly humbling experience that I never took for granted.  I am not sad, nor am I disappointed in my departure from the band.  I see it as a fresh start to another chapter in my random life.  As for me… Well, I’ll be around – music is something that is essential to my life.  I cherished the good, learned from the bad and realized that in life, ‘the only constant is change’.

“One last thank you to everyone that showed me kindness on and off the road, so thanks to Juan, Carlos, Alex, Mauro, Marco, Talita and the rest of the Earache gang including Anthony, every band I toured with, and most of all the fans!  See ya!”

Warbringer to enter studio next week to record new album

April 14th, 2011
by EvilG

WARBRINGER have been working on new material since coming off the road in late November and will be entering the recording studio on Monday, April 18th. Producing this time will be Steve Evetts, who has an impressive resume working with bands as diverse as Dillinger Escape Plan and Symphony X to Sepultura and Hatebreed.

“Our goal with this record is to make something beyond a run-of-the-mill metal CD,” explains guitarist John Laux, “The most difficult challenge is always finding just the right balance between a raw, aggressive sound and modern production standards. We chose Evetts to produce, aside from his extensive resume, because he aims for very organic and bold sounds. His experience in bringing the best out from a wide variety from musicians across different genres of music can be seen in his credits and this speaks for itself.”

The band has learned a lot in the two years since the release of 2009’s Waking Into Nightmares. Since the group has continued to relentlessly tour the globe with a variety of artists becoming known as one of the hardest working bands in metal as well as a ferocious live act and they bring all that into the creation of a third album. In addition, the new album sees the band welcome drummer Carlos Cruz, who’s had a lot of input into the new material.

“Musically and thematically I feel confident that this will be respected as our most mature offering to date,” states John Laux. “I am really proud of all the elements of extreme metal we have been able to incorporate into the songs. There is weight and purpose behind the lyrics and most importantly we have had time to put a lot of thought and care into the music.”

This time around, WARBRINGER gave themselves twice the amount of writing time in relation to the preparation for ‘Waking Into Nightmares’, and have even released footage from a recent practice session in order to give eager fans a taste of what is to come with the new record. Check the footage out:

More video reports will come from the studio as the guys lay down their tracks in the creation of their most epic metal release yet.

“Stay tuned everyone,” closes John Laux before adding, “We’ll be laying out a ‘stone cold stunner’ on you with our riffs soon enough!”

British thrashers EVILE are in the midst of recording their as-yet untitled third album, which is due to be released later this year on Earache Records.

Evile 2010

EVILE have been posting a series of videos to give fans a glimpse of what’s going on while the band is in the studio.  Watch the new video, part 5:

EVILE lead guitarist OL DRAKE comments:

“We’re reaching the point of no return in the recording process.  All drums are down, all bass is down, all rhythm guitars, all harmonies and guitar solos and fifty percent of the vocals are down.  All that’s left to do is the remaining vocal parts and backing vocals, then we enter mixing mode.  Very proud of what we’re accomplishing and can’t wait for this album’s release.  I think this material really shows us coming into our own; we’re much more confident in what we’re doing now and ready to show the world how we have grown and developed musically on the new album…  This is the next level.”

In Solitude release album title, artwork, and track listing for “The World. The Flesh. The Devil”

April 14th, 2011
by EvilG

First single ‘Serpents are Rising’ set for premier on Monday April 18

The World. The Flesh. The Devil is set as the title of the Metal Blade debut from Uppsala Sweden’s IN SOLITUDE. Cover art for The World. The Flesh. The Devil, out May 24, consists of a shadowy portrait chosen from a collection of images by artists Jesse Peper.

“At first, we had a very hard time trying to make our world and our material visual as an album cover. A few collaborations were made, thousands of ideas were put on test, but sadly enough, we were never satisfied. But as we came across the exceptional and amazing world of Jesse Peper, and the specific shadow portrait you see on the cover (not to forget the ones that live within its pages), it was as if we all remembered something. Like out of a dream, or distant memory. Of a face that told us to step into this darkness; the darkness in which the seeds of IN SOLITUDE grow and bloom. And with Jesse Peper we certainly came closer. And we are always coming closer; further away and closer home. And the cover depicts our guide, on burning paths.” Hornper – on behalf of IN SOLITUDE

The World. The Flesh. The Devil track listing:

1. The World, The Flesh, The Devil

2. We Were Never Here

3. Serpents Are Rising

4. Poisoned, Blessed, and Burned

5. Demons

6. To Her Darkness

7. Dance of the Adversary

8. On Burning Paths

The first single off The World. The Flesh. The Devil will be track #3, Serpents are Rising, and is set to premier on Decibel Magazine’s site this coming Monday (4/18). Pre-orders for The World. The Flesh. The Devil are now live HERE: both the CD and a CD/T-shirt bundle are available.

Pelle Ahman (vocals), Niklas Lindstrom (guitar), Henrik Palm (guitar), Gottfrid Ahman (bass), and Uno Bruniusson (drums) entered Nicke Andersson’s (THE HELLACOPTERS, ENTOMBED, IMPERIAL STATE ELECTRIC) brand new studio, Gutterview Recorders, in Stockholm Sweden with producer Fred Estby (DISMEMBER) back in November to record the band’s sophomore album The World. The Flesh. The Devil. “From the first meeting with Fred, we knew that we wanted to work with him. He fully understood our needs and what we are aiming to create. After hearing his work, we knew that he was also a fan of organic production. This is very important to us. His studio is recently built and we are thrilled to be one of the first bands to record within its walls” comments the band.

New Comments From TYPE O NEGATIVE Frontman Peter Steele’s Family

April 14th, 2011
by EvilG
Peter Steele

Peter Steele

The family of late TYPE O NEGATIVE frontman Peter Steele has issued the following statement on the first anniversary of his death:

“It is with great emotion, continued heartache and collective sorrow that the family of Peter Ratajczyk (Steele) remember that on this day, only a year ago, we lost our only brother. To the world he was an acclaimed songwriter, lyricist, musician, artist, and singer; to us he was the heart of the family and love of our life.

While battling many demons in his life, he poured out his emotions in lyrical creations that would make you cry, scream or laugh. Along with hallowed music, Peter had that ability to translate love, hate, fear and sorrow into music notes that could bring even the strongest man to his knees in acknowledgment of his feelings. From his musical legacy we learned to feel and express deep-pitted emotions with a driving beat and strong voice, crying the very words we wish we could utter.

But it was the fans that understood Peter the most. It was the fans who understood his self-depreciating humor, his love of a good joke (even when it was at his expense), his playful on-stage persona, and his sarcastic, analytical way of looking at the world that only Peter could put into words.

The family thanks the adoring fans, the long-time friends, the amazing musicians that have graced Peter’s presence and the photographers and artists who have captured his likeness and beauty for every kind word, offered prayer, beautiful letter, gracious hug, and a bounty of support during this horrendous time. You know who you are and we will always embrace you for it.

In the past few months a couple of writers tried to dishonor Peter’s legacy by concentrating on his failings and mistakes rather than honoring him for the weight he bore for us all. Please remember these wonderful things about Peter: his genius for writing music & lyrics, his gifted orchestration, his artistic design of album covers, performance backdrops, and inventive printing fonts and logos; his magnetic ways with the audience and fans; his talent for words and languages; his insatiable desire to study science, engineering and war strategy; his love of animals and children; his way of making everyone feel more important than himself; and his generosity and gentlemanly ways.

We encourage everyone who was ever touched by Peter Steele to tell the world about their feelings. We thank you for standing up and acknowledging our brother with the respectful and dignified tributes that a man of his talents, abilities and accomplishments deserves.”

Peter Steele died of heart failure on April 14, 2010 at the age of 48. Prior to his death, Steele had been enjoying a long period of sobriety and improved health and was imminently due to begin writing and recording new music.

Amon Amarth - Surtur Rising

Melodic death metal titans, AMON AMARTH, today kick off their long-anticipated near two-week run of live dates in support of latest studio offering Surtur Rising.

Dubbed “An Evening With AMON AMARTH,” this special tour will find the band performing two sets each night with no openers. The first set will feature the band performing Surtur Rising in its entirety while the second will boast a collection of songs from previous releases. The Viking-inspired mayhem will begin tonight in Chicago at The Bottom Lounge.

Released on March 29 via Metal Blade Records, Surtur Rising has topped the charts both domestically and abroad and continues to reap praise from critics and fans around the globe for its sheer debilitating heaviness. Said Decibel of the offering: “…it’s a pleasure to learn one of metal’s most consistent bands remains as indefatigable as ever.” L.A. Music Blog called Surtur Rising, “the epitome of what death metal should be: ferocious and crushing. It’s possibly the band’s best work to date,” Blabbermouth compared the record to being, “…bludgeoned by your favorite warhammer. Definitely a contender for this year’s best,” while Metal Bite commended the record saying, “Surtur Rising is not just an album, it’s a fantastic tale that’s presented with honor and dignity. This is some of the band’s most dynamic work yet and I cannot emphasize enough how you need to pick up a copy when this is released!” Metal Curse called it, “absolutely amazing from beginning to end,” while Crave Metal put it simply: “EPIC!”

Commented guitarist Olavi Mikkonen: “We can’t thank our fans enough for showing their appreciation of our music and making this album our most successful release to date. We are looking forward to performing the songs from Surtur Rising live and delivering a powerful, crushing set! See you on tour, cheers!”

XERATH: Exclusive Song Premiere Via Gun Shy Assassin

April 14th, 2011
by EvilG

Today the fine folks at Gun Shy Assassin play host to an exclusive premiere of “Nuclear Self Eradication” from UK-based experimental progressive metal outfit XERATH. “Nuclear Self Eradication” is the eighth track off the band’s upcoming new studio offering II, set for release in North America via Candlelight Records on May 3, 2011.

Said bassist Chris Clark of the song: “‘Nuclear Self Eradication’ is one of the most brutal and aggressive offerings from II. As heavy as it is technical, it offers a definitive guide to the key elements and ideology of XERATH. The track also features a guest solo from Daath guitarist, Emil Werstler.”

To check out “Nuclear Self Eradication,” point your browser HERE.

XERATH was originally formed in 2007 as an experiment to combine film score composition with extreme groove-based heavy metal. Now a fully functional band with an emphasis on the live stage, XERATH aim to remain on the cutting edge of extreme. Metal Hammer hailed the band for sounding like, “the result of a chaotic experiment to produce the ultimate please-them-all 21st century metal band,” while Blistering added to the sentiment noting, ‘once you have your head wrapped around the gravitational strength of XERATH’s chug-enforced labyrinthine rhythms and beats, you can sit back and wonder at the sense they make and what compelling fantasy they create.” II features artwork from Colin Marks (Strapping Young Lad, Nevermore, Scar Symmetry).

April 13th, 2011
by EvilG

As April 14th draws near, will be paying tribute to the late Peter Steele, whose iconic vocal talents in Type O Negative helped shape the musical landscape for a generation of music lovers.  The anniversary of Peter’s passing will see the release of “All For None, None For All: A Tribute to Peter Steele,” which includes twelve cover tracks graciously donated by underground bands from across the world and from various genres of metal.  In memory of Peter’s own various covers, each song provides a unique interpretation of Type O Negative or Carnivore.

A second trailer has now been posted online with clips from each of the songs on the tribute, in order to give past and future Peter Steele fans a chance to get acquainted with the bands honoring his legacy. The teaser trailer can viewed below.  An interactive version of the album’s digital booklet, created by Dan Mitchell of Beneath the Woods studio, is also available for all to view at

The anniversary of the death of an icon is a bittersweet one. While we may never get to hear what Peter had in store for us next, we can still remember him and retrace the steps he already took on his musical career. Commenting on his passing a year ago, Tennessee’s Dark Hound added “Never bowing to be what anybody else wanted him to be, Peter forged his own way and his own style and sound, something every musician should hope to accomplish.  That spirit and his music will continue to inspire us and countless bands to come.  R.I.P. Peter Steele, thank you for what you’ve left us.”

“All For None, None For All: A Tribute to Peter Steele” will be available on April 14th, 2011 in digital format with a PDF booklet for $3 (three U.S. dollars), which is solely to cover the cost of mechanical licensing and transaction fees.  Any remaining money left over will be given to charity.  In addition, free desktop and iPhone wallpapers based on the cover artwork will be made available for anyone to download.
