Brooklyn-based black metallers MUTILATION RITES have been furiously busy doing the devil’s work since 2009, criss-crossing the USA (and Mexico!) bringing total aural devastation unto all who fall under their spell. They have just announced the beginning of yet another mammoth American tour, one that hits nearly every corner of the country and sees them sharing stages with the likes of Batillus, Hull, The Body, Weekend Nachos, Valdur, Necrite, Woe, and many other underground dwellers. The band will be appearing at this year’s edition of SXSW as well as the Oakland Black/Death Fest, and are kicking things off with a hometown show with Eyehategod, Magrudergrind, and Misery Index tomorrow night (February 18th, 2011).
After a few lineup changes, MUTILATION RITES has solidified into their deadliest incarnation yet. Their sound draws from the poisoned wells of blackthrash, doom, and crust punk, as well as referencing the ravishing grimness and ice-cold tremolo picking of the mid-90’s Scandinavian masters; the result is ugly, hateful, and distorted, just as a New York black metal band should be. The band features current and former members of Tombs, Disassociate, Curandera, Rabia, and Heuristic.
MUTILATION RITES are also gearing up to release three brand-new songs on cassette (courtesy of Poison Infiltration) as well as a split with Brooklyn bros BATILLUS on Shinebox later this year. The songs were recorded with Kevin Bernsten (of TRIAC) at Developing Nations in Baltimore, and will rip your fucking face off.

The Big 4: METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX
METALLICA has issued the following update:
“If you’ve been following along, you know that the Big Four of ANTHRAX, MEGADETH, SLAYER and ‘Tallica already have two shows scheduled in Europe in July… well, the party is expanding!
We’re here today to tell you about and addition to the European vacation with a show in Gelsenkirchen, Germany at the Veltins Arena on July 2nd, 2011. Tickets go on sale on Saturday, February 19th at 9:00 AM local time at www.eventim.de. MetClub members should check MetClub.com for more details on a special pre-sale for Clubbers only.
Yes, that headline said “shows” with an “s.” Keep watching here for a couple more announcements in the coming weeks.”
Speaking to Noisecreep’s Jon Wiederhorn, Megadeth leader Dave Mustaine responds to the question: Why is there only one Big Four US show confirmed?
Says Mustaine: “That, I don’t know. But I do know this – and it’s not me speaking on behalf of any of the Big Four collectively or individually – it started off as one date before, and then it ended up being several. So I would say for people that pray, do so. For people that don’t, start.”
The Big Four announced on January 25th that they will play one exclusive show on Metallica’s home turf on Saturday, April 23rd at the Empire Polo Club, Indio, CA.
During an appearance on a recent edition of The Kevin & Bean Show on the Los Angeles-based radio station KROQ-FM (106.7), Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich explained why there is only one US show:
“Let’s take baby steps here. We did seven or eight dates last year, we’re doing one show in England and one show in France.
Listen, we don’t wanna cram this down people’s throats., we don’t wanna sort of overstay the welcome, and we don’t know what kind of response there’s gonna be to this in America, so we’re starting, obviously, without being disrespectful to the rest of the wonderful country…
We have a history in Southern California, Slayer has a history in Southern California, (Dave) Mustaine has a history in Southern California, so there’s a lot of history in California. And we picked the Coachella site where this is going down the week after the Coachella, which is probably – along with Bonnaroo – the favorite festival site to go to in North America.
If there is enough demand for it, obviously there’s a very strong possibility that there’ll be more shows, but we don’t wanna overextend the welcome and we also don’t wanna turn it into something that becomes just this whole nostalgia trip. So it’s a balancing act, you know.”

With the impending release of the highly anticipated album Firefight, Blackguard is here to empower the masses. The gradual leak of album and song teasers is getting metal heads stoked worldwide. The latest album teaser gives you yet another taste for what’s approaching on March 29, 2011.
Symphonic black metallers FROST DESPAIR are working hard on the recordings of their first EP, which will be released in the following months.
About the recordings, Odommok commented: “We began the recordings in 2010 and got back to it in January. All the pianos, synths and other classical instruments were changed. We decided to throw away what was recorded and make the orchestration more extreme. Agammenomm (piano/keyboards) and I worked in a new touch for ‘God Delusion’. It sounds better, more extreme and sometimes lyrical, exactly what we wanted.”
ARRYAN PATH’s “Terra Incognita” has been shortlisted for Impala’s inaugural European Independent Album of the Year Award, with the winner to be announced on 28th February.
The IMPALA Album of the Year Award is a Mercury-style award that celebrates the musical talent and diversity of independent European releases. It promotes exceptional artists and the independent sector alike. The winner is selected, regardless of sales figures and publicity, from a shortlist that is compiled based on a national and non-national album nominations from European territories. A jury of Impala board members choose the winner based on musical merit alone.
“Terra Incognita” (the band’s second album) was released in February 2010 through Pitch Black Records and has been receiving raving reviews since then, also making it into several ‘best of 2010’ lists. Being shortlisted for this award is a tremendous achievement by itself and the entire Pitch Black Records team wishes to congratulate Arryan Path while also stating that “we are equally confident about the strength of the band’s upcoming album (to be released later this year), just as we were when we first listened to Terra Incognita!”
A new year and a new INCARNATE album coming up! It’s almost there, the cd is baptized “Hands of Guilt / Eyes of Greed” and will be released March the 4th!
NEW CD “Hands of Guilt / Eyes of Greed”
This summer, Incarnate recorded the cd at the Independent Recordings Studio in Utrecht. The new album was once again engineered by Quintijn Verhoef. For the release of “Hands of Guilt / Eyes of Greed”, the band officially resigned a deal with Demons Run Amok Entertainment (GER). Guitarist Chris states: “We already worked with both parties for our previous album and that turned out very well. There was no reason to change the recipe. We are glad to stay within the DRA family.”
It’s the first album with new vocalist Koen Mattheeuws. Frontman Koen comments: “After being with the band for about a year, I am proud to show the results of our song writing. This is INCARNATE’s third studio album and it’s a killer! This record has a great thrash and death metal feel to it, but the groove and slower tempos are represented. There’s something for everyone.”
INCARNATE worked together with Jacob Parmentier to visualize the album’s concept. Parmentier is an upcoming artist known for his black and white horror-esque style of drawing. Recently he also worked for bands as Arkangel and Rot in Hell. He did an awesome job on the cover artwork, which now perfectly fits to the music. The artwork is included as attachment.
The album track-listing for “Hands of Guilt / Eyes of Greed” is as follows:
1. Doomed to Wander
2. Sinner’s Fate
3. Tempted (by an Angel)
5. The Damage Done
6. Act of Reason
7. Pains of Grey
8. Seven – VII – 7

Israeli prog/metal band ORPHANED LAND has just posted the following statement regarding the current events in the Arabian world:
“For years I was educated to hate Arabs and learned how much they hate me and my nation, I was sure both Israelis and Arabs, Jews and Muslims will never live in peace. But then something happened, a small movement – the music that taught me more than any teacher, guru, rabbi, sheikh, was my band’s music – ORPHANED LAND. I know that a football fan of Barcelona will never cheer up for Real Madrid, so how can it be that Arab people will follow my Israeli band? It’s simple – the power of music to bring people together, to break walls, even worst enemies can find a mutual song that they love, and right there – it’s a moment where they can find something in common, a door to a dialogue, to understand that we are all one.
We consider you, our Arabian fans, to be the most brave metal heads in the world, since you re-defined the word ‘underground’ into a new level.
We know how hard it is to be a metal head in the middle east and we always want you to know that we as pioneers of the Middle Eastern Metal genre, we are trying our best to be your voice too without getting into politics that divide us for ages. I already know that music can bring people together since I see how many fans we have in the Arab world despite the fact we are Israelis.
I know that all the wars and bullshit they put in our heads are just a stupid lie, I know it because we succeeded to break it, and we are not politicians, we are just a heavy metal band.
We are banned in your countries, not to mention the fact that we cannot play a concert there, this will never stop the power of music and friendship that exists between us – I see you, our fans as a miracle, you give us the inspiration to continue as much and as strong as we can.
Lately we have decided to make our latest album legally available in your countries – FOR FREE! We hope that you’ll enjoy it and spread the word.
Our countries flags may have different signs and colours but deep in our hearts shines the same flag – the flag of hope, friendship, brotherhood,
Don’t you ever forget it – it is our duty as disciples of the sacred oath.
With love, peace, Salam & Shalom,
If you are lucky to live in a country where you can simply go out to a record store and buy whatever you want – grab your copy of “The Never Ending Way Of ORwarriOR” and support this fabulous band as they still live up to their message!
Feb. 17, LOS ANGELES — Responding to ongoing rumors surrounding a possible Black Sabbath reunion, Geezer Butler has issued the following statement: “I would like to make it clear, because of mounting speculation and rumours, that there will be definitely no reunion of all four original members of Black Sabbath, whether to record an album or to tour.”
Geezer Butler with Heaven and Hell - Live in Helsinki (2006)
Butler’s most recent musical outing was with Heaven & Hell, a four piece featuring Black Sabbath band mate Tony Iommi as well as one time Black Sabbath members Ronnie James Dio and Vinny Appice. The band released Neon Nights: 30 Years of Heaven & Hell in November of 2010. www.geezerbutler.com
GOD DETHRONED - "Under The Sign Of The Iron Cross"
Read the statement of GOD DETHRONED mainman Henri Sattler: “For a Nihilist, nothing is at least something. 2011 is GOD DETHRONED’s final year in existence.
We could have spent another year in a tour bus because the amount of offers was endless, but I just don’t feel like touring anymore. People told me to take a break for a year or maybe two, but as I’m an “all, or nothing at all” type of person, I decided to call it quits. Not immediately, but in December of this year we will definitely play our last show. That’s gonna be at the Eindhoven Metal Meeting in Holland. I’m very proud of what we achieved with the band, but the time has come for new challenges. I would like to thank all of our fans for their support for all these years.” Cheers, Henri
On behalf of GOD DETHRONED

20/08/11 – DE – Dinkelsbühl – Summer Breeze Festival (final German show)
17/12/11 – NL – Eindhoven – Metal Meeting (farewell show)
DIAMOND PLATE have officially commenced the recording sessions for their Spring 2011 debut album, GENERATION WHY? with producer, Neil Kernon (JUDAS PRIEST, DEICIDE, NEVERMORE, 3 INCHES OF BLOOD) at RAX Trax in the band’s hometown of Chicago, IL. “Working with Neil has been incredible;” says guitarist, Konrad Kuplec. “Our plan is simple: bring together great songs, playing, and production with an insane amount of energy. We want to focus on capturing a vibe on this album that hasn’t been felt in metal in a long time. People will be amazed at how much improvement and strength there will be on this debut.”
By incorporating elements of extreme metal, hardcore and other outside interests, DIAMOND PLATE aims to make a solid thrash album that is proudly modern, yet can stand the test of time. Neil Kernon, no stranger to making records that were hallmarks of aggression, is helping to shape GENERATION WHY? into just that: “I am very excited to be working with Diamond Plate. We’re all ready to make a killer album. This is going to be a blast!”
GENERATION WHY? will be released on EARACHE RECORDS in Spring, 2011.
DIAMOND PLATE is a young, dynamic band from Chicago, IL who have taken the midwest metal scene by storm and now have their eyes set on global domination. Formed in 2008, this high-energy act has already earned high honors from respected outlets such as Terrorizer magazine, who named DIAMOND PLATE as one of the Best Unsigned Bands in the very year that the band first got together.
