ABIGAIL WILLIAMS’ latest album In The Absence Of Light was released in September via Candlelight Records. Recorded at Conquistador Studios in Cleveland and mixed by Peter Tagtgren (Dimmu Borgir, Immortal, Celtic Frost) at Black Lounge Studios in Sweden, the album presents founder/vocalist/guitarist Sorceron with new guitarist Ian Jekelis and drummer Ken Bedene. The album’s eight songs, written exclusively by Sorceron, contain far more urgency then the band’s previous material, cutting down on snyth and keyboards without depleting their crushing atmospheric capabilities, while adding a more brutal, sinister edge to their attack. http://www.myspace.com/abigailwilliams http://www.purevolume.com/abigailwilliams http://www.candlelightrecordsusa.com http://www.myspace.com/candlelightrecordsusa
Danish progressive power/melodic death metallers MERCENARY will release their sixth album,“Metamorphosis,” in North America via Prosthetic Records on March 29. The North American version of the album, produced by Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Heaven Shall Burn, Aborted), will feature the exclusive bonus track “Incorporate Your Demons.” Pre-order your copy now at Prosthetic’s online store: http://store.prostheticrecords.com/index.php/bands/mercenary The band will be touring Europe in February and March alongside Symphony X and Nevermore.
Guitarist Jakob Mølbjerg commented on the signing: “We’re very happy to announce that we have signed a licensing deal with Prosthetic Records for the release of our upcoming album ‘Metamorphosis’ in North America. It’s one bad fucker of an album, so it’s truly a great feeling to once more be able get our music out to the American fans, not least through such a great label.”
“Metamorphosis” track listing:
1. Through The Eyes Of The Devil
2. The Follower
3. In A River Of Madness
5. Velvet Lies
6. In Bloodred Shades
7. Shades Of Grey
8. On The Edge Of Sanity
9. Black Brigade
10. Incorporate Your Demons (North American bonus track)
Through the last decade, MERCENARY have been one of the most active and successful proponents of Denmark’s rising metal scene. Over the course of their previous five studio albums, which earned the band increasing critical acclaim for their distinctive blend of aggression and huge soaring melodies, the band earned a wide international audience and dedicated fan base. MERCENARY have toured actively as support for top acts such as Megadeth, Arch Enemy, Nevermore, King Diamond, Death Angel and many more. They have also appeared on most major metal festivals, such as Wacken (twice), Tuska, Metal Camp, Earthshaker, Inferno, Graspop, Dynamo, Summer Nights, ProgPower Europe, and ProgPower USA (twice) and many more.
Behind the scenes, however, deep creative and personal differences increased through the years, and they culminated when their drummer, keyboard player and one of their two singers left the band in late 2009. Joined by master drummer Morten Løwe, the band now counts the song writing team of original member Jakob Mølbjerg (guitar) and master shredder Martin Buus (lead guitar), as well as the versatile singer/bassist René Pedersen.
Rising from the ashes of the old lineup, the Mercenary of 2011 evolves and reshapes the band’s trademark sound of combined clean and aggressive vocals with a new edge, displaying a catchy and fresh sound, as well as an newfound unity, ambition and musical focus within their ranks. This is reflected in the “Metamorphosis” cover imagery.
“There’s of course a lot of obvious (and indeed slightly cheesy) self-referential symbolism regarding the rebirth of the band in the cover artwork,” the band said in a statement released last week. “But apart from that, we felt that the motive of a phoenix was a fitting expression of many of René’s lyrical themes on the album, as they deal with personal and existential crisis, overcoming personal obstacles and how we can sometimes redefine ourselves in the process of taking responsibility for altering the conditions of our very lives. This idea of personal freedom can be a very frightening thought for some, but it’s actually a message of hope and optimism – we can always take control of our lives and free ourselves of inner or outer constraints, or at least take pride in the struggle to do so.
“(Okay, dropping all the intellectual pretense, we just liked the artwork because it was freaking bird on fire – how cool is that!?)
“On a serious note, though, we also felt that a simple, raw and iconic visual theme would support the musical direction of the new album. We feel that the songs are our strongest ever – they’re no-bullshit, focused and straight to the point, and our good friend Don G really nailed these concepts with his artwork.”
93 X Rocks are reporting that OZZY OSBOURNE has revealed to ABC News Radio that he, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward “are in the talking process” regarding a BLACK SABBATH reunion, and even a new album.
Osbourne stressed, however, that nothing is definite yet, in part because of the pressure the four of them will face if they make a new record. He said, “the problem that we have is that if we do an album and it’s anything less than where we left off, it’s gonna be a big anti-climax.”

Here’s what critics had to say of the LAZARUS A.D.’s Metal Blade debut, The Onslaught:
“The thrash revival seems to have spawned two types of bands – retro sound-alikes and those who are looking to make the genre relevant now. Lazarus A.D. are one of the latter…” Revolver Magazine
“straightforward…engaging…Kill ‘Em All style climax.” Decibel Magazine
“Get ready for some friggin ridiculous thrash from Wisconsin! Not bay area thrash, think Master of Puppets era Metallica thrash” Hails & Horns Magazine
“…the way it combines rapid-fire riffage, abrupt rhythm changes and cutting guitar harmonies within double bass drumming is worthy of praise.” Guitar World from ‘The Next Metallica?’ article
“This one hits so hard it hurts…it’s meaner than a hungry pit bull with rabies…In two words, damn good.” Blabbermouth.net

The demolition brigade of Goresoerd, having recently released a successful full-length “Tüdruk ja Surm” (“The Maiden and Death”) as well as a split-MCD with Tukkanuotta, have yet another reason to be proud: the ghoulish gentlemen will be performing at the most popular Scandinavian metal festival Tuska taking place in the middle of Helsinki city on July 22–24! The achievement is also noteworthy for the fact that thus far the only Estonian band to have performed there were Metsatöll in 2006.
Tuska Open Air is a household name for every self-respecting metalhead. The first of the events by that name took place already in 1998, and the festival has grown ever grander and mightier since. In 2010, Tuska was headlined by such acts as Megadeath, W.A.S.P., Nevermore, Cannibal Corpse and Satyricon; the festival, attended by altogether 33 000 people, was sold out. This year the festival will for the first time take place at the Suvilahti cultural centre instead of the traditional location at Kaisaniemi park.
In addition to Goresoerd, the list of Tuska’s performers for July 22–24, 2011 presently includes At The Gates, Arch Enemy, Exodus, Meshuggah, Killing Joke, Enslaved, Moonsorrow, Witchery, Agnostic Front, Kvelertak, Spiritual Beggars, Grave, Mygrain, Church Of Misery, Misery Index, Jex Thoth, Cavus, Lighthouse Project, Cause For Effect, Gaf, Feastem a. o.
Nevertheless, Goresoerd will be playing in Finland already before that, as three gigs will take place on the Northern shore of the Gulf of Finland together with Tukkanuotta in the beginning of March.
