ACCEPT

INTERVIEW BY MARKO SYRJÄLÄ AND ARTO LEHTINEN

Transcription by M H aka Psychophobe

LIVE PICTURES BY MARKO SYRJÄLÄ

Accept, the legendary heavy metal band out of Germany, conquered the metal world back in the 80’s with thunderous classic catchy songs such as RESTLESS AND WILD, BALLS TO THE WALL, BREAKER, METAL HEART, and the list continues. The legendary five piece made a triumphant return to the limelight in 2005, crisscrossing European metal and rock festivals and received excited reception from metal fans. However, things within the band didn’t work out and the band went on hiatus. Finally Accept got back together, but without vocalist Udo Dirkschneider. The former TT Quick frontman Mark Tornillo stepped in to take over on vocals. Original members Wolf Hoffman and Peter Baltes had plenty of new strong sounding Accept material written and the new album BLOOD OF THE NATIONS was recorded during last year at the helm of Andy Sneap who had a strong input on new songs and album. The whole band was on a promotion trip and doing some shows here and there. Metal-Rules.Com got an excellent opportunity hear the new album and then hav a chat with Wolf Hoffman and the new singer  Mark Tornillo.

StockholmRockOut-Alvik.jpg

MAY 30th, 2010

REVIEW AND PICTURES BY MARKO SYRJÄLÄ

Rarely, if ever, has one festival organization gone through so many difficulties as Stockholm Rockout faced out during this spring. First, there were many cancellations for whatever reasons, even some headliners got canceled, and finally the volcano eruption in Iceland and its ash clouds meant that most of the U.S. bands not reaching Sweden in time. The organizers of Rockout didn’t give up and they decided to organize a small-scale one day event with bands which were now available. The actual Rockout -festival will then be re-arranged for later next September.

OVERKILL – Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth

Interview conducted by Robert Williams

After thirty years of wrecking necks live, East Coast thrash metal legends Overkill are still in their prime, as evidenced by this year’s excellent onslaught of an offering dubbed "Ironbound". Hitting the road in support of the new record, the green and black attack headlined the aptly-named KILLFEST tour atop a bill that also featured God Dethroned, Vader, Evile, Warbringer and Woe of Tyrants. Overkill frontman Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth is in good spirits this night in Austin, Texas as he cracks jokes and fills us in on life out on the road. The subject of the evening is primarily focused on the pummeling new Overkill record and the band’s immediate tour plans. Rather than placing too much emphasis on the twenty-fifth anniversary of the band’s debut album "Feel the Fire", Blitz seems very content with the band’s present achievement and looks to the future of the band with excitement and anticipation. Tonight’s concert is further proof why now is as good a time as any, to be an Overkill fan.

Roadburn – Tillburg Holland

by Arto Lehtinen

ROADBURN FESTIVAL

15 – 18 April 2010

013 and Midi Theatre

Tillburn Holland

The Roadburn festival has gained a real monumental status amongst metal and rock fans around the planet. The festival has become such an ultimate popular event during the past few years that tickets for the festival have been sold out within less than one hour. What makes the Roadburn festival such popular ? Well firstly bands of course, as the festival offers such a diverse line-upl covering a wide range of music from the underground psychedelic and rock, avant-garde stuff, doom or any other variation of metal stuff pleasing the fans of the music and above all the general atmosphere. Metal-Rules got an excellent privilege of visiting the Roadburn festival for the second time in a row to see a plenty of killer bands, smell the taste of the weed and enjoy Triptykon. However as it is widely know the volcanic outburst in Iceland caused nothing but a tremendous headache for the organization of the Roadburn festival. As all the flights were canceled and airports were closed cos ashes of clouds were rolling over Europe resulting several bands were unable to arrive at the Roadburn festival. For example the Swedish doom legends Candlemass was forced to cancel, and Jesu, Evoken and so on. The Norwegians had troubles in getting at Roadburn, but however made it. As several bands didn’t have any other choices, but cancels the appearance that resulted the whole schedule had to be remade and re-arranged.  Despite big cancellations, there were after all tons of magic and unique bands on the stage and magic music.

HAMMERFALL – Joacim Cans

May 11th, 2010
by Robert Williams

HAMMERFALL.jpg

Interview conducted by Robert Williams

Videography courtesy of Sandra Torres

Gothenburg, Sweden’s five-piece of heavy metal crusaders, Hammerfall, recently returned to the United States for their first headlining tour of North America in support of last year’s  incredibly successful "No Sacrifice, No Victory" album, their seventh full-length record for Nuclear Blast Records. Hammerfall are no strangers themselves to touring in the U.S. having previously warmed up the stage on previous outings for veteran acts like Death and Dio and most recently performing alongside Edguy several years ago, but this time Hammerfall are at the top of the bill, and who can argue after the band has spent the last thirteen years proving themselves with their distinctive brand of classic and often melodic heavy metal. Hammerfall vocalist Joacim Cans recently took the time to talk metal with Metal-Rules.com and filled us in on the bands current activities and life on the road.

Danny Rexon – Crazy Lixx

May 8th, 2010
by EvilG

Danny Rexon – Crazy Lixx

Interviewed by Alan Gilkeson

Over the past few years I’ve read about what some call the "New Wave of Swedish Sleaze" and for the most part I’ve blown it off. For some reason the re-emergence of other styles of metal, the likes of thrash and speed, seemed more legitimate. As the years pass I’ve fallen victim to the cliche that hair/glam/sleaze metal was not good music, that it was Hollywood make-up and hair, without substance. Then a few weeks ago, tasked with a review of another Swedish glam act, my mind opened up a bit as I listened to a really nice record from a band called Lippstixx ‘n’ Bulletz. A week later I interviewed Ron Keel, remembering that 80s L.A. metal had some excellent acts. Then when presented with NEW RELIGION from Crazy Lixx, being more then ready to check out this new glam scene, I was pleasantly surprised!!! If you have an open mind about glam metal, then this is a new band that you would do well to check out. We caught up with vocalist Danny Rexon to discuss the band’s 2010 release ‘New Religion’…enjoy.

Jordan Mancino & As I Lay Dying Do It For The Fans

May 8th, 2010
by EvilG

Jordan Mancino & As I Lay Dying Do It For The Fans

Interview by Shawn Jam Hill

Promo pics courtesy of Metal Blade Records

Being a drummer can be a somewhat thankless task compounded by the plethora of groaners cool guys (like guitarists and singers) have come up with over the years. Did you hear about the bass player that locked the keys in the van? It took the band 2 hours to get the drummer out.

Jordan Mancino, famed skinsman for San Diego metalcore heroes As I Lay Dying, has probably heard it all before. An engaging dude with a laid back, West Coast attitude, Mr. Mancino recently called me up here in Ottawa, Canada to discuss his obsession with drumming, AILD’s formative years and the pinnacle on which they preside in the world of metal. With a fresh record, The Powerless Rise (Metal Blade), hitting the streets May 11 and a tour cycle that will see the band melting faces all over the world for the next 2 years, Mr. Mancino will be one busy drummer. He better just watch out for that gong (more on that later…).

May 5th, 2010
by Robert Williams

sxsw-2010.jpg

SXSW or (South by Southwest) is an interactive, music and film festival based out of Austin, Texas. Now in it’s twenty third year and being one of the largest festivals of it’s kind, SXSW welcomes over 2,000 performers annually at over 90 different venues over the course of four days in March. The last several years have welcomed some amazing performances from classic metal favorites like Metallica and Motorhead. There was a Scandinavian metal showcase several years ago that featured Enslaved and 1349. In 2008, the Swedish power metal commandoes known as Sabaton made their North American debut and most recently, in 2009 Steel Panther broke out of the Sunset Strip long enough to conquer the popular festival. At this year’s event, Motorhead returned to perform two seperate concerts and promote "Lemmy The Movie" the upcoming rockumentary focusing on the charismatic and iconic Motorhead frontman. Michael Monroe (ex-Hanoi Rocks) debuted his new touring lineup with several showcase appearances and legendary Canadian thrashers Voivod triumphantly headlined the Relapse Records showcase that also featured Tombs, Brian Posehn and Graves of Valor.
