We would like to thank everyone who came out to The Temple last Friday night at Annex Rehearsal Studios in San Lorenzo. It was truly a Metal Meltdown in every sense of the term and a great welcome to our new bass player Chad Murphy (x-The Venting Machine). Here is a clip from the show. (Thank you Roseman!)
British thrashers EVILE are among the latest artists to be confirmed for this year’s edition of the legendary Download festival, which takes place 10 – 12 June at Donington Park in the UK.
Following a hugely successful year in 2010, when EVILE won a coveted Metal Hammer Golden God award and spent months on the road in North America with the likes of OVERKILL, FORBIDDEN and KREATOR, the band are now heading to the UK’s home of rock for what will undoubtedly be an unforgettable performance. EVILE will be performing alongside the likes of such rock giants as DEF LEPPARD and SYSTEM OF A DOWN.
EVILE drummer BEN CARTER comments:
“Evile are both honoured and excited to be making our first appearance at Download this year! Donington has been the spiritual home of rock and metal for so many years, now finally we can make our mark there and become part of that legacy. I’ve attended Download in the past, and seen many bands perform on the smaller stages and go on to huge success, and I think that’s what Download can do for a band. There’s something about the place that’s special, so we’re all so eager to get on stage and have our Download moment! BRING IT ON!!!!!”
EVILE’s thrash metal anthem, “Thrasher”, is available now on the Rock Band Network, along with every song from the band’s latest album, INFECTED NATIONS. Get the tracks now by heading to EVILE’s official Rock Band page at http://www.rockband.com/songs/artists/Evile
New York band Ov Dust have posted two new songs ‘Final Act’ & ‘Duality of Light’ from their debute release
‘Resurrection of an American Heretic’. Both songs are available for streaming at the bands
Resurrection of an American Heretic is the band’s first full length release following a short
three song demo branded ‘impressively jagged’ by Decibel Magazine (nov 200).
Recorded and mixed at Overit Studios during the spring of 2010 and
mastered by legendary producer Don Fury (Agnostic Front, Sick Of It All,
MDC, Eyes Of Hate, Raw Power), ‘Resurrection of an American Heretic’
is comprised of nine tracks spanning more than 50 minutes and illustrates
the bands talent for mixing elements of black metal with old school thrash
creating a distinctive brand of extreme metal.
Formed in early 2008 Ov Dust firmly stepped away from the embittered mainstream,
straddling the line between the underground and misunderstood, creating the grinding
music of inherent dissension. With the release of the debut album, the unmistakable
sounds of incendiary heresy, initially indistinguishable from the rustling of leaves
across the autumn floor, now roar with unabated yearning and intent,
signaling the resurrection of an American heretic.
North Carolina doom metallers, HOUR OF 13 will be returning to New York City this Saturday, March 5th at Cake Shop for “An Evening of Doom and Magick.” Even after considering that this show is yet another rare US live appearance for the band, the night will be made even more notable by the debut of their new lead singer. This mystery man has been a part of several well regarded doom acts and has a voice that will fit snugly into HOUR OF 13‘s recognizable sound.
HOUR OF 13 guitarist and founder, Chad Davis had this to say about the impending debut of the band’s new frontman: “HOUR OF 13 could not be more pleased with the dedication and amount of work our new vocalist has shown. He is a valuable talent to have in the band. He is a vital presence that we were needing in the fold and thanks to him, we are stronger and more focused than ever.”
HOUR OF 13‘s new singer will make his official debut with the band this weekend in New York City. Only 100 tickets are being sold for this show so act fast or you will only ever hear the tale of how momentous this occasion was. HOUR OF 13 w/NATUR and PILGRIM
Saturday, March 5th
152 Ludlow Street
New York, NY
HOUR OF 13 recently released audio of the new singer at a recent band rehearsal. HOUR OF 13‘s management released a statement saying: “The reason we let those audition demos out on theobelisk.net was because we were so floored by what we had come into — how the new guy was owning it. We wanted to let Hour of 13s fans know that not only would the band be able to keep going, but that their best is still ahead. Get ready because you’re gonna be floored.”
“The album as a whole is a disrespect to western civilization,” commented Norris frontman Curtis Wilson. “Our culture has lost all hope in my eyes. I think about leaving this shit hole for a more simple life in a less developed country, but then I realize we have brain washed all countries into wanting our shitty, over-consumptive lives anyway, so I might has well just stay here. I do paint a very grim picture of where the future is heading for us but, I also believe in positive change for the willing.”
“This album is one of the angriest records that I’ve heard in a long time,” states Year of the Sun’s president C. Benner. “You can legimitmately feel the frustration, the hostility, and the honestly throughout ‘The Great White North’ and it’s extremely refreshing. It’s really quite an impressive record and I think it really speaks to what’s happening in the world around us right now.”
Norris have been ripping their way through Canada leaving behind a trail of devoted fans who have been a key factor in spreading the band’s extreme blend of metal, rock, and hardcore across the country. The band’s explosive sound has been praised by Exclaim Magazine as “…simply obliterating…. manages to come barreling out of the speakers with unbridled passion.”

Hisingen Blues was produced, recorded, and mixed in analog by Don Alsterberg (JOSÉ GONZALES, JUNIP, SOUNDTRACK OF OUR LIVES, THE INTERNATIONAL NOISE CONSPIRACY) at Don Pierre Studios in Gothenburg, Sweden. It is due out in Europe on March 25 and in North America on April 19th.
The band offer their commentary on their recording sessions:
“We recorded the album in several different sessions. As much as possible, we tried to do live. All of it is 100% analog… and we’d like to take this opportunity to once and for all kill the argument that recording analog is ‘retro’ or that we’ve got a ‘retro’ sound. Analog recording is just one technique among many. Just like you build a house using bricks, wood or whatever. Paint a picture using oil, acrylic or Photoshop. Our music sounds best recorded analog; other bands sound best using nothing but computers and a thousand filters. Analog recording brings warmth and an organic feeling to the music, that’s what we like. To us, ‘retro’ is often something negative, meaning an unimaginative repetition of what has been or just a carbon copy of something old. We play timeless classic hard rock with a lot of blues and psychedelic influences among many others. And regarding analog being retro: Go through the history of rock and pick your best twenty albums. How many of them have been recorded on computers? Don’t mistake classic pieces of work for retro.”

Duff McKagan is obviously ever-famous as the bassist in the classic Guns N’ Roses-line-up and Velvet Revolver. But since 2008, his own project Loaded has also progressed impressively. With this band, originally formed as early as 1999, Duff handles vocals and rhythm guitar. The sound is rough and rugged hard-rock with strong punk-influences, and the band names the Rolling Stones, Thin Lizzy and Black Flags among their influences. Loaded have so far recorded three full-length albums, most recently “The taking” which will be released this April. However, they are primarily a live act, and what makes their SRF-debut even more anticipated is that this will be Duff’s first SRF appearance ever!
“White Knuckles & Blue Moods is a documentary feature about Gary’s career and his influence on other rock and blues guitarists.
Jörgen Holmstedt and Stefan Mossberg have been working on the film for several years. It features contributions from Don Airey, Jon Hiseman, John Sykes, Brian Downey, Eric Bell, Brian Robertson and Gary himself.
White Knuckles and Blue Moods will be around an hour long and is due for release later this year.”
Legendary metal act Motörhead will be performing live on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon tonight (3/2) at 12:35/11:35C. Lemmy and co. recently released their 20th studio album, The Wörld Is Yours, which features the song “Get Back In Line.” The video for “Get Back In Line” can be seen here.
The band are currently on the road on a U.S. tour that will wrap up in Los Angeles at Club Nokia on March 11th. After that the band will take on Australia and South America in April/May before returning to Europe for a summer tour. For a complete list of dates visit www.imotorhead.com.

Long-time vocalist Matt Barlow has retired from ICED EARTH.
In his heartfelt statement, Barlow cites his commitment to his family and the need for Iced Earth to tour more as the reasons for his retirement; however, he has committed to perform with Iced Earth on all 2011 European festival dates, which will be his last with the band.
Matt Barlow’s official statement is as follows:
“Brothers and Sisters,
Let me begin by saying how much of an honor it has been to share my time in Iced Earth with Jon and the guys…and with all of you! Since my return to the band in 2007, it has truly been extraordinary. I have had the opportunity to travel the world and see old friends and meet new ones. Though we had originally thought that the Iced Earth touring schedule would be very limited, we were able to play our fair share of concerts.
During that time we were also able to have a live DVD produced (the forthcoming Festivals of the Wicked). However, due to the rapidly changing music industry, it has become increasingly clear to recording artists that the only way to keep a band viable and to truly reach its potential is through live performances. That means that a band must reach out to new regions of the globe and become pioneers for their own livelihood. Since 2007, Jon and I have always had the best intentions for the future of Iced Earth, and we still do. However, given the band’s projected touring schedule, Iced Earth’s future and mine must now take separate paths.
On my departure from Iced Earth in 2003, I made a commitment to my wife and to the idea that we would start, and raise, our family together. Two years later, my first child was born and two years after that, my second. My youngest son was born about a week before Jon asked me to return to Iced Earth. It was a very exciting and emotional time for all of us, but we were all clear on our intentions. It is apparent to us now that regardless of our belief at that time, time can change an intended outcome. In this instance, I hope that change will not be regarded as a bad thing, but rather as a necessary part of evolution.
Jon and the band must venture into new realms to continue to grow Iced Earth. I commend him for his ideals and wish nothing but to share in his vision. I know that this is not the last time Jon and I will work together, but it will be my last endeavor with Iced Earth. Iced Earth is a name and force of its own. It has been very good to me and has allowed me to live a dream that others would give most anything for. I have been truly blessed to share this experience with everyone. I will continue to support Jon and Iced Earth in every way. I will also continue to create and perform in my own capacity.
These next months will prove to be a very emotional time for me. I am extremely happy to be able to share the experience with Jon, Brent, Freddie, Troy and the Iced Earth family. I am proud to know them and honored that they consider me their friend. It is going to be phenomenal to share the love of this music during several summer festivals and I know that it will be a time we will never forget.
Please consider all that I have brought forth and all of Jon’s offerings before passing judgment on the future of Iced Earth. This band has always strived to give its listeners the very best and I know that Jon, as always, will continue to lead that charge.
“To Iced Earth and all of you…I wish you the very best!!!
Band founder and leader Jon Schaffer reacted to his friend’s decision with equal parts sadness and praise.
“I knew Matt wrestled with this for a long, long time,” said Schaffer. “It wasn’t an easy decision for him. But I love him dearly and I can’t fault his reasons.”
Schaffer continued: “Matt is one of the most sincere people I know, and one of the most talented. His departure deeply saddens me, but I hope all fans of Iced Earth will cut him some slack. I wish Matt well, respect him greatly, and I ask everyone else to do the same.”
With a new album in the works, and a world tour pending, Schaffer has already begun the search for a new vocalist.
“I have a few guys in mind,” said Schaffer. “And as you can imagine, it is a very important decision. One thing is for certain: we are not looking for a Matt Barlow ‘clone’ – we are looking for a front man that brings power and character of his own to the table. There’s only one Matt, and that era of the band’s history will always hold a special place in my heart.”
The band’s long-awaited six-hour, three-concert live DVD Festivals of the Wicked is scheduled for release this spring.
The band recently announced a new summer festival date: Dong Open Air in Neukirchen-Vluyn, Germany, on July 15th.
With the Dong Open Air date confirmed, Iced Earth will play a total of six summer festivals, including: Wacken, Graspop, Rock am Härtsfeldsee, Ilosaarirock Festival in Joensuu, Finland on July 16th, and the Sweden Rock Festival on June 10th in Sölvesborg, Sweden.
More festival dates will be announced soon on the band’s official web site, MySpace, and Facebook pages.
Announcement of a new vocalist will be made through all social media outlets as soon as a decision is made.
UK based metal heroes DRAGONFORCE have announced that their long search for a new vocalist is finally over. After entries from thousands of hopefuls across the globe, the shredmasters supreme welcome 23-year-old Marc Hudson to the band to fill the boots left by ZP Theart, who parted ways with the band in March of last year.
“I’m really excited about being a part of the DragonForce family,” said Hudson. “It’s always been my dream to dedicate my life to making music. I’m going to bring all the power and emotion I can to the songs, and help make the killer new record the fans have been waiting for!”
Born in Oxford England, Hudson was picked from the thousands of applications via a number of impressive video auditions and live performances, which left the rest of the band in no doubt that they’d found their man. Since the age of 16, Hudson has been building his vocal skills, gigging with bands in the UK underground scene, developing a powerful style with influences which include Bruce Dickinson, Michael Kiske and Sebastian Bach.
Said founding member and guitarist Herman Li: “After almost a year of searching around the globe, it’s great to be able to finally tell our fans the good news. Marc’s expressive and melodic vocals are sounding phenomenal on the new songs, adding another dimension to the DragonForce sound that I am sure all the fans will love.”
The band has been working on a new album since early 2010, recording in various studios in California, London and the South of France. The follow up to 2008’s hugely successful Ultra Beatdown album will be highly anticipated, with top 10 and top 20 chart positions all over the world and a Grammy Nomination in the United States setting the precedent. With Hudson brought into the fold, the band is enjoying an injection of enthusiasm and hunger that sees DRAGONFORCE prepared to return more focused and determined than ever before.
“Everyone in the band is extremely excited about how the new material is shaping up.” Continued Li. “We haven’t felt this kind of energy in the band for a long time. We can’t wait to unleash the next DragonForce album later this year.”
The new album is expected to hit the shelves in September, with a full world tour to follow.
