Polish technical death metal band DECAPITATED are currently at Radio Gdańsk Studio in Poland recording their follow-up to 2006’s Organic Hallucinosis. Guitarist & founding member Wacek Kiełtyka offers the following first report from the studio:
We’ve just started the recording session of the new album at the studio of Radio Gdansk which is brilliantly equipped and has some wicked recording space. This time ‘round, we are working with Malta (Arek Malczewski) and Daniel Bergstrand who have been with us to set up the drums sound… and so far everything has been going surprisingly well.
Right now, [drummer] Kerimh [Lechner] is finishing the last two tunes. I must say the drums sound really cool. Daniel has surprised us with his approach towards recording using millions of – often weird – solutions, e.g. a piano or using the corridor of Radio Gdansk. 🙂
We are recording fully live drums – no triggers or plastic sounding stuff whatsoever, which, especially for Kerimh, renders the session more demanding than he had expected; but because of this, in my opinion, the sound will be original and will help us to avoid the so-called ‘machine gun effect.’ We are going to record eight songs altogether and the album will be about forty minutes long. It looks like this time, our recording style is pretty ‘old-school’- with live drums and no recording of double guitar tracks, which means one guitar per side.
Daniel is just on his way back to Sweden now and we are starting to record the skins for the last two songs so I gotta be going now.
Check out the pics and till the next time, Yo.”
Drummer Kerim “Krimh” Lechner checks-in about drums:
I just wanted to tell you what is going on in the studio. Today is the second day of actual drum recording and it’s going really well! We probably could finish about four songs today. We will see how the next days will look like, but I think we could finish drums earlier. We do not have any bigger problems so it feels good to record in this place. The acoustics of this room sound great so I enjoy playing all these songs a lot. Today is also the last day with Daniel Bergstrand, who prepared the drum sound for us – and he definitely knows what he’s doing!!
When I listen to the songs right now, I believe that this album will be strong. Different in some ways, but I feel confident about the new material. Being part of the new line-up and recording the first album after the long break is definitely a big thing for me. After all those shows we played together, this is our new challenge. It’s not easy but I like challenges!
So that’s it for today. Stay tuned for more news coming up! Cheers!”
Preliminary song titles used for the recording sessions (excerpted from the studio photos) include:
-Riff 1 Clean
-Fast One (Need More!!!)
DECAPITATED’s fifth studio album is being produced by Wacek Kiełtyka and sound engineered by Malta Arkadiusz Malczewski. Drums are being recorded with Daniel Bergstrand (BEHEMOTH, MESHUGGAH, DIMMU BORGIR, KEEP OF KALESSIN, DEFLESHED), who is also handle mixing duties.
DECAPITATED’s line-up includes: Wacław “Vogg” Kiełtyka on guitar, Kerim “Krimh” Lechner (Thorns Of Ivy, Tone Intimacy) on drums, Rafał Piotrowski (Ketha, Forgotten Souls) on lead vocals, and Filip “Heinrich” Hałucha (Vesenia, Rootwater, Unsun, Masachist) on bass.

The band recently announced their new record entitled “The Human Romance” to be released on February 22, 2011. This is the bands seventh full length and their debut for new label eOne Music. Renowned SOILWORK guitarist Peter Wichers, along with the band, produced the record himself.
The band has also released the sixth chapter of their behind the scenes studio footage today, see it here: http://bit.ly/gonuYN “This time around, the DARKEST HOUR songs were composed a bit differently than was the case in the past.” Guitarist and founding member Mike Schleibaum explains, “we
have been working on these tunes ever since we left the studio last
April. ‘The Eternal Return’ was written during a very dark, bleak time
for the band and I think that record matches that in both tone and character. Our vision was for it to be an
in your-face, no-frills aggressive assault. The new material shares in
that aggression and pushes DARKEST HOUR beyond the unknown.”
DARKEST HOUR recently finished their 15 Year Anniversary “Legacy” tour in Europe last week. The next run of dates has them headlining the “ATTICUS METAL TOUR” along side BORN OF OSIRIS. “Atticus Metal” promises to be one of the most exciting tours for the first half of 2011 and is a must see for all metal fans alike. Meanwhile PRIMORDIAL have finished the recordings on their seventh studio album, Redemption At The Puritan’s Hand, with producer Chris Fielding (Napalm Death, Electric Wizard) for a April release via Metal Blade Records.
PRIMORDIAL vocalist A.A. Nemtheanga comments on Redemption At The Puritan’s Hand:
“If I had to sum this album up I would say this is the ‘death’ album. Plain and simple. There isn’t exactly a whole concept but many of the themes deal with mortality, how we deal with it. The spiritual structures we place around us to make sense of it. Sex, death, procreation and god. As we get older our relationship to our lives changes, the realization you will not live forever, the grand plan you hoped to uncover never materializes, food for worms and nothing more.
We are animals, beasts and making peace with that beast might be your life’s work but more often than not he is never tamed.
Once a wolf always a wolf. We all seek redemption in one way or another, from lies or from truth. Those of us who are godless or faithless often envy the man of faith for his life seems to have an extra purpose, despite the fact that logic, pragmatism, science and realism should crush any sign of faith, we still persist in lying to ourselves. Perhaps the alternative is too much to bear. So the themes of religion, mortality and death occur over and over again, along with continuing themes of alienation, martyrdom, sacrifice, violence and retribution. Occasionally, very occasionally a chink of light breaks through.
This is our seventh album, you know what to expect, passion, intensity, commitment and sheer bloody mindedness. Don’t expect fantasy or escapism. No remorse, no regret.”
PRIMORDIAL will release their new longplayer, Redemption At The Puritan’s Hand, on April 23rd/26th, 2011 via Metal Blade Records in Europe and April 26th in North America! Stay tuned for track listing, album art, pre-order deals and the first sound samples in the coming weeks!
Ronnie James Dio - Live in Helsinki, Finland in 2006
According to Joe Siegler from Black-Sabbath.com, TIM “RIPPER” OWENS (HAIL!, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, BEYOND FEAR, ex-JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH) will be singing in place of RONNIE JAMES DIO (BLACK SABBATH, DIO, HEAVEN & HELL, RAINBOW, ELF) on some unreleased Dio material the Dio band is going to be recording. Apparently bassist Rudy Sarzo and guitarist Craig Goldy were given permission by Wendy Dio to go through Ronnie’s computer looking for music they can record.
In other news, last night (Sunday, February 13th) at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards, – which took place in Los Angeles at Staples Center – during the photo flashback segment honoring musicians that we lost in the past year, Ronnie James Dio was among them.
Just in time for Valentine’s Day…t he perfect blend of rock and romance… Whitesnake has partnered with VEVO for the world premiere of the brand new video “Love Will Set You Free.” As of today, Monday, February 14th, the video can be viewed here. Directed by Devin DeHaven/Fortress Entertainment (Papa Roach, Method Man, Talib Kweli), the video was shot in Lake Tahoe, NV. “Love Will Set You Free” is the first single from the forthcoming Whitesnake album, FOREVERMORE, and is available for purchase from February 21st at all digital stores.
FOREVERMORE is due out on March 29th in North America and March 25th in Europe and finds founder/singer/songwriter David Coverdale and company returning to their no-holds-barred, bluesiest, sexiest rock n’ roll roots. This will be Whitesnake’s 11th album and the first release via the Italian-based Frontiers Records label. FOREVERMORE was recorded, produced and mixed by Los Bros Brutalos (Coverdale, Doug Aldrich and Michael McIntyre) at Snakebyte Studios and Grumblenott Studios & Villas in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, with additional work at Casa Dala, Sherman Oaks, CA.
Formed in 1977, and steered by the legendary David Coverdale, Whitesnake carry a rightful reputation as one of the world’s leading rock n’ roll bands. Coverdale’s blues roots, combined with a feral sense of rockin’ and rollin’, have consistently shaped the ‘Snake’s sound along with Coverdale’s love and appreciation of impeccable musicianship. Whitesnake’s ascent to the very top of the rock n’ roll heap was confirmed with 1987’s self-titled mega-platinum album, which saw two massive Top 10 hits, two #1 singles with “Here I Go Again” and “Is This Love” and a virtual 24-hour domination of MTV around the world. Whitesnake is David Coverdale (vocals), Doug Aldrich (guitars), Reb Beach (guitars), Michael Devin (bass) and Briian Tichy (drums).

Polish metallers Neuronia have unveiled their new lineup, reinforced by two acknowledged musicians from Warsaw’s metal scene. The band will soon release an international version of their last album, “Follow The White Mouse”.
In mid-January 2011 Neuronia’s bass player Dominik „Domo” Beśka left the band due to time constraints. He played in Neuronia since 2006 and participated in the recording of the band’s both studio albums, as well as 2007’s “First Blood” EP. Michał “Thor” Pasternak, the band’s drummer, also left to be able to focus fully on his main band – Relikt, and thrash-metal outfit War-Saw.
‘Of course it’s a difficult situation for the band when the whole rhythm section leaves. However, we’re very happy that the split wasn’t acrimonious, there was no bad blood and we’re all still friends,’ says Michał “Misiek” Rogala, founder of the band. ‘We’re very lucky – we’ve found two great musicians in no time, and they have seamlessly found their place in the line-up. We’re even more motivated now – we feel a lot of newly-found energy,’ he adds.
Daniel ‘Beton’ Grotkiewicz has assumed bass duties. He is a seasoned musician, as well as the founder, leader and mainstay of Warsaw’s death metal horde, Mesmerize. He also plays bass in the grindcore band Anticipate and sang lead for Gortal for a time.
Marek “Deviant” Kuczyński, who also plays in the gothic-metal outfit At The Lake as well as for the grindcore band Anus Magulo, became Neuronia’s new drummer. Marek also played in Vecordia and Nailgun.
The new line-up is getting ready for spring time shows. You will have the first opportunity to witness the new Neuronia in action on Feb 25th in ComeIn, Opole next to Jelonek, Baliama and Pigs In Tank. Two days later, the same line-up of bands will appear in MegaClub, Katowice.
As a result of the line-up change, the band had to postpone the plans to record the four-track EP, which was announced in December last year. ‘But we’ll have a small surprise release ready for our fans in the spring,’ announces Maciek “Tektur” Nawrot, Neuronia’s lead singer.
The band’s recent studio album ‘Follow The White Mouse’ is set for international release via Metal Scrap Records (Ukraine). The contract for the release has been signed in mid-January. The release – which features a slightly changed sleeve design and a pit-art engraving on the bottom side of the disc – will have its premiere in February/March 2011.
The latest album is available through iTunes, Amazon, Nokia Ovi Music Store and many more digital stores. You can also buy it directly from the band in digital form and on CD through Neuronia’s BandCamp site (http://www.neuronia.bandcamp.com)
