Demonic Resurrection frontman Demonstealer has teamed up with Srinivaas Sunderrajan, bass player for metal band Scribe to create an online heavy metal cooking show called ‘Headbanger’s Kitchen’. On the show, the Demonstealer rustles up some of his favourite dishes and invites one metal band to sample his cooking and sit down for an informal interview. The first episode of the show features Dubai metal veterans Nervecell as guests. The show is produced by Enter Guerrilla productions, headed by Srinivaas.
“I’ve always had a passion for food and cooking and I started a recipe blog on facebook called Demonic Cookery which became quite popular. So I decided to take that to the next level by making cooking videos and I came up with the idea of merging my passion for cooking and love for heavy metal into creating a unique show like Headbanger’s Kitchen. After that I teamed up with Srinivaas who had already done the DR music video and he helped me bring this vision to life’ said Demonstealer.

Death metal legends MASTER, who were scheduled to kick off their long-anticipated U.S. headlining tour earlier this week with support from Lightning Swords Of Death and Mobile Deathcamp, were denied entry into the country and forced to return to the Czech Republic.
Said MASTER mainman Paul Speckmann in a statement: “We arrived Tuesday morning in Holland and after intense questioning we proceeded to the eye and body scan machine. Along with the other passengers, we proceeded to the plane. We arrived in Detroit and went to passport control. I waited for about two hours for any word on the guys. The police came to explain that the visa waiver program didn’t apply to musicians. So they sent me to customs and proceeded to tear apart everything and sent me on my way. I waited for six hours to get on another airplane and return to Europe. Thankfully the lady at the Delta checkout counter was very helpful and confirmed that the guys would be on the next plane in the evening and I could return with them. The guys were escorted to the plane by four police officers and returned their passports when we arrived in Amsterdam. Since when are musicians and terrorists in the same category? Again I apologize to all the bands, organizers and fans of course. I guess the CD cover of the Human Machine CD has become a reality!”
Due to the financial loss, MASTER U.S. tour merch, a CD/T-shirt combo is being sold domestically for $20.00 US/ $30.00 EU via PayPal (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Sponsored by Nuclear Blast USA, Decibel Magazine, Amoeba Music L.A. and Dean Guitars, the world’s first-ever film festival dedicated to heavy metal music is set to take place at the Downtown Independent Cinema in Los Angeles, California this coming March 31st through April 3rd, 2011.
Festival organizer and long-time metalhead Samuel Douek is proud to announce the first portion of the maiden line-up for 2011’s Heavy Metal Film Festival. Many more films will be announced soon.
“I think the Metal community in Los Angeles will be surprised in many ways and people around the world will be intrigued about what our festival is all about. This is shaping up to be an international event with films from Lithuania, the U.K., USA, and Finland. To open the very first Heavy Metal Film Festival, we have decided to give the honor to LAS MARIMBAS DEL INFIERNO (MARIMBAS FROM HELL) directed by Julio Hernández Cordón. A Guatemalan film with co-production from France & México, this tells an amazing story of survival, cultural tradition, Heavy Metal, and trying to live a decent life. This film premiered as an official selection at the Toronto Film Festival and then played at San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain. The film has already been selected at the Miami International Film Festival and will definitely travel the world. We are extremely happy to have the Los Angeles premiere of this unique and original story. The opening night screening will be followed by a reception.”
Other films screening at the Heavy Metal Film Festival include:
PROMISED LAND OF HEAVY METAL(Kimmo Kuusniemi&Tanja Katinka Karttunen) Finland 2010: A feature documentary film about the history and philosophy of Heavy Metal and how it became such a big deal in a small country called Finland. From its early “underground” days to the present success stories, interviews with famous – and infamous – musicians, experts, events organizers, a psychiatrist, a priest, and a doctor of theology all tell the story of Finnish Metal. Can metal survive when it becomes mainstream and Eurovision and Pop Idol competitions are won by metal? Metal has even entered the Finnish Lutheran church which organizes metal masses. Includes interviews with Finnish metal’s heavy hitters NIGHTWISH, HIM, SONATA ARCTICA, NIGHTWISH, and LORDI plus ENTOMBED from Sweden, Norway’s DIMMU BORGIR, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE from the U.S., plus the Madam President of Finland herself, Tarja Halonen. THE BUNNY GAME(Adam Rehmeier) USA 2011: A violent drama in black and white that will promise to be the talk of the festival, its dialogue and photography scream Metal. With a soundtrack from local black metal bandHarrasor, the film follows the life of a drug addicted prostitute and how she is picked up by a truck driver and held against her will for 5 days. The Bunny Game is as much twisted performance art as traditional feature film. Equal parts snuff film and extremely non-traditional therapy, it’s clear that normal cinematic rules don’t apply. The director states: “We wanted to make a film the same way in which we recorded music, and in that sense, The Bunny Game, is very much a musician’s film.” Includes a Q & A session with the director and cast.
THREE DAYS(Daina Pupkeviciute) Lithuania 2011: A creative documentary about a thrash metal band from Lithuania named DISSIMULATION from the Ledo Takas Records roster. The film follows the band for three days on a road trip covering what Metal is all about. The band has not played together in months and they are on their way to a metal fest in Lithuania. This film manages to bring the intense and beautiful scenery of Lithuania and its landscapes to the Metal life of Lithuania and its citizens. The members of DISSIMULATION are not, by any means, your normal characters; discussions about life and transformation are only the beginning of a philosophical debate that makes the band what it is.
ABSENT(Justin Hunt) USA 2011: This explores the worldwide crisis of absent and disengaged fathers and the negative impact that the “father wound” makes on society. Weaving interviews with participants who speak from observation and personal experience, the film includes on-camera testimony from author John Eldredge, World Champion boxer Johnny Tapia, fitness model Robin Decker and James Hetfield, best known as co-founder of METALLICA. Includes a Q & A session with the director.
HEAVY METAL THUNDER – THE MOVIE (Craig Hooper)U.K. 2010: ***EXCLUSIVE, NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN 120 MINUTE VERSION FOR HMFF***SAXON are true heavy metal heroes. Their story is a classic rock ‘n’ roll saga: five friends from the backstreets of Yorkshire, England setting out to take on the world. The resulting chart glory, mixed with band in-fighting and full-on rock excess, ensures their dramatic tale will become part of heavy metal history. This feature-length documentary film tells the full warts-and-all story of 30 years of heartache, earache, success and excess. Produced by critically acclaimed documentary filmmakers Coolhead, it not only has contributions from SAXON members past and present, but also from the likes of Lars Ulrich (METALLICA), Lemmy & “Fast” Eddie Clarke (MOTÖRHEAD), and many, many others. It also features freshly-uncovered archived material. The whole production was funded by SAXON‘s army of loyal fans, who pre-ordered copies of the film before it was completed, providing Coolhead with the budget to make the film.
ANVIL, THE STORY OF ANVIL(Sacha Gervasi) USA 2008: Probably the most awarded music film in the last few years, we are lucky enough that it is about a Metal Band, ANVIL! We decided to screen this film for many reasons. First, because we can; second, because director Sacha and Lips will be joining us for a Q & A session after the film for a very special presentation.
ASSORTED ATROCITIES (Craig Cefola & Rob Dukes) USA 2011: ***EXCLUSIVE EDIT FOR HMFF WITH 20 MINUTES OF BONUS MATERIAL*** After EXODUS pioneered the Bay Area Thrash scene back in 1980, the band has gone through hell and back a few times. Without achieving the commercial success as some of their peers, they have stayed true to both their music and fans, still creating some of the best music in the thrash metal genre. This film covers the last 5 years of the band’s history and brings you into their inner circle. Including stories about original vocalist Paul Baloff’s craziest moments, tales from the road, and an inside look at the recording process of “Shovel Headed Kill Machine,” this special screening of Assorted Atrocities features bonus footage not available on the band’s 2010 DVD of the same name. Live footage includes EXODUS in South America, Japan, Australia, and Europe plus the band’s voice-over sessions for the cartoon “METALOCALYPSE.”
HATED: G.G. Allin & the Murder Junkies (Todd Phillips) USA 1994: ***MIDNIGHT SCREENING*** Documentary about the life & death of the notorious underground punk icon G.G. Allin, the foul-mouthed, heroin-shooting lead singer of the Murder Junkies, who would throw excrement at the crowd, start fights with the biggest guys in the audience, and threatened to kill himself onstage. He was considered the lowest common denominator of our society by some, an avant-garde artist by others. He died of an overdose in the early ‘90s.
Stay tuned for additions to the festival line-up, plus the announcement of the short films section.

Prog-metalers, LAST CHANCE TO REASON, have launched a tour diary video documenting their current Canadian run. Check it out now, exclusively, at Metal Injection: http://ht.ly/46yKI The band is in Canada for several more shows and will then meet up with Atheist for a trek that swings down the east coast. The band will then join forces with Wretched and Sons of Aurelius for about a month of dates, before hitting New England Metal Fest. LAST CHANCE TO REASON’s Prosthetic debut, “Level 2,” hits the streets on April 12th in North America. Pre-order for the CD, on its own, or with a shirt is available at PROSTHETIC’s official webstore: http://store.prostheticrecords.com/index.php/bands/last-chance-to-reason
LAST CHANCE TO REASON teamed up with producer Jamie King (Between the Buried and Me) to create a modern take on the classic progressive concept album. Drawing influence from the 70’s prog of King Crimson and Yes, composers Steve Reich and Schoenberg as well as prog-metal masters Opeth, Dream Theater and Cynic, LCTR’s “Level 2” takes the band in awe-inspiring new directions.
Set in a Tron-like virtual world, the album’s concept revolves around the relationship between man and technology, our move from physical reality to virtual spaces and what these changes mean to our lives and our art. The lyrics are expressed from the point of view of an artificial intelligence facing the violent reality of a videogame world.

The band Aperion, who has grinded their ideas almost in secret for several years, struck Slovenia in 2010 with their long awaited first album Act of Hybris. The bands hidden wishes came true, as they emerged on the foreign music scene unexpectedly quick and the album called for a reproduction. Good news apparently travels fast, as proven by numerous comments of foreign critics. Aperion received excellent reviews, not only in Slovenia, but also in England, France, USA, Spain, Germany Italy… The songs from their first album found their way onto four compilations across Europe and even in America, which is particularly difficult to conquer. The French audience has rewarded them with the third place on La Grose radio station, after competing with great names such as Metallica, Scorpions, The Rolling Stones, Slayer, Helloween, Megadeth,…
Last year the band presented their first album to the Slovene audience at various festivals and their independent tour and this year they are going abroad. They signed a contract with the German label G-records and on the 4th of March their album will be released in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Virginian death/thrash metal veterans metal DECEASED will be heading back into the studio this year to record Surreal Overdose, their first full-length of all-new material since 2005’s As The Weird Travel On. The long-running metal maestros have kept the faith since 1985, summoning a slew of cult releases and building up an immensely dedicated fanbase that has followed the band merrily into hell and back. Now, at the dawn of 2011, King Fowley and his band of ‘bangers have returned!
King Fowley will return to the drum kit for this recording, handling both drums and vocals. The band will welcome in longtime live member Shane Fuegel on guitar (replacing long time band member Mark Adams who retired from music in 2007), while Mike Smith continues on studio guitar alongside longtime bassist Les Snyder.
The new record will be recorded at Assembly Line Studios in Virginia with Kevin Gutierrez engineering and King Fowley producing. The CD will be handled in the states by the band’s own label, Shrieks from the Hearse Records, alongside PATAC Records. Hell’s Headbangers will handle the vinyl edition, while overseas distribution will be announced shortly.
*The band is currently seeking live gigs and press opportunities. King Fowley is available for interviews now; please contact Catharsis PR for all things dirty and Deceased.*
Deceased has attained a dedicated, though cult following throughout a lengthy recording and live career. Founded in 1984, by drummer and vocalist King Fowley, the first band to sign Relapse Records, they released four full albums through the label, along with a number of EPs, demos and re-releases of early demos. Leaving Relapse Records in 2003 to sign to Thrash Corner, the band continues to release material to this day. Their sound centers around the powerhouse drumming and horror lyrics barked, sometimes narrated vocals of Fowley, telling tales of zombies and classic works of horror from The Twilight Zone to the works of Edgar Allan Poe (“Dark Chilling Heartbeat” retells “The Tell-Tale Heart” on their Supernatural Addiction album), while the twin guitars often move quickly from riff to riff – the band’s songs typically work through several time signature and tempo changes. From their fairly primitive origins, while their core sound has always retained an almost punk/hardcore edge to its rawness, Deceased became more and more ambitious in terms of their use of melody in their progressive, lengthy thrash guitar workouts. This transition in their career was marked by the release of a full zombie concept LP, “Fearless Undead Machines”, with cover art by painter Wes Benscoter and spoken samples from George A. Romero’s “..of the Dead” films, as well as the band’s own attempts to stage classic horror monologue and storytelling. In 2005 the band signed with Thrash Corner Records and released ‘As the Weird Travel On’ which was accepted instantly in the underground as one of few old-school metal bands still putting out quality material. The band started their own label in 2008 called Shrieks from the Hearse Records. They re-released ‘Fearless Undead Machines’ as a 2 cd set soon after. 2009-10 saw the band on the road more then ever with lengthy tours both on the east and west coasts.
The result is the musical and lyrical concept in the mind of keyboardist and composer Ralph Swan. Again and again he took temporary project musicians to realize his musical visions. With a 4-track EP and various concerts with support for Fates Warning, Mind Odyssey, Sieges Even, etc. Due to the positive reviews from the media, fans and not least of the musicians the band was found in 2007.
In early 2008, the album “Among Grey Masks” taken in self-distributed and collected excellent reviews. At this time, manifested the solid line-up Tangent Plane: Ralph Swan Warrior – Keyboards, Bass – account Kostas (GRE), the guitarist Piero Pellegrino (ITA) and the singer Jan Michaelis (GER), and the drummer Dennis Hofmann (GER ).
Early 2010 the band worked in the studio with C. Schmid and RD Liapakis (Mystic Prophecy, Suicidal Angels, Orden Ogan, Eldritch, etc.) the first part of the “Project Elimi” trilogy. In May 2010 the band signed at 7Hard Records.

“We are utterly thrilled to announce our first ever battle on US-soil – the Rites of Darkness Festival in San Antonio TX – as well as our first ever shows in Thailand and Spain.
We can also reveal that Pablo Magallanes will join us as a second guitarist on the upcoming march through Europe. The addition of a second axe-man for live situations brings us to new heights and we can deliver the tracks – both new and old – with more power and might”

Lethal monsters from outer space, frozen inside Antarctica for millions of years and defrosted in the 80s due to the hairspray fumes from hair metal fans? Or “only” a band from Virginia with a stageshow even crazier than the music? Either way, Gwar have released twelve albums since 1988, most recently last year’s “Bloody pit of horror”. Their sound has varied, with influences from punk, Frank Zappa-like experimentation and, obviously, brutal metal. The latter ingredient dominates the Gwar sound of today. Other important components of the Gwar concept is the mixture of explicite genitals-related humor (beware of fluid-spraying from the stage) and, indeed, political commentaries. Plus “murders” of objectional individuals – don’t be surprised if you see someone like Mr. Lordi get “executed” on stage during Gwar’s SRF debut. An experience you won’t easily forget!
