by EvilG

This May, in conjunction with the the release of their highly anticipated second album, ‘Demons Of The AstroWaste’, Vancouver BC’s power/melodic death metal champions UNLEASH THE ARCHERS are embarking on a massive tour of Canada, aptly titled ‘Tour Through The AstroWaste’.

The trek will carry the band from coast to coast, delivering a fresh dose of their compelling live show to Canada’s diverse metal masses, and proving, as they have while sharing the stage with the likes of 3 Inches Of Blood, Blackguard and Augury, that Unleash The Archers are among the country’s new elite metal acts.

“We can’t wait to play our new material all across Canada!”, exclaims guitarist/vocalist Brayden Dyczkowski. “This is the biggest tour UTA has ever done and we’ve got a ton of amazing shows lined up.”

As a taste of what’s coming, fans can listen to 4 pre-production song previews from ‘Demons Of The Astrowaste’, here:

ALMAH’s musicians reveal a few details about the new studio album

May 12th, 2011
by EvilG

Brazilian metallers ALMAH continue working at the third studio album, the follow-up to the previous success, Fragile Equality (2008). As we reported, the band entered the Norcal Studios in São Paulo, Brazil on the 2nd of May. This week, they have started to record the guitars. Right now you can check the comments of ALMAH’s musicians Edu Falaschi, Marcelo Barbosa and Felipe Andreoli for the band’s official website and Brazilian media about the first two weeks of the recording sessions:

Marcelo Barbosa (guitars) comments for Fullrock.com webzine that this time the whole composing process “has been a little bit different. It’s been a bit faster than in case of the previous CD. We started to exchange some ideas through the Internet. When we had got enough material, we set up an appointment and spent almost a week in São Paulo in order to finalize the songs and the arrangements for the new album and right after that Marcelo Moreira entered the studio to record the drums. This part has already been finished and this week we have started to record the guitars, acoustic guitars and the bass. Everything is happening very very fast. We waited for some break in Angra’s schedule to have a space to go on with Almah. And when it happened we immediately caught this opportunity! We have choosen the same studio where we made Fragile Equality, Norcal, with excellent equipment, technical staff, organization and where we are very welcome. With old partners by our side the whole process becomes easier and more agile. The main difference is the fact that this time the album will be mixed in Europe”.

According to the bassist of ALMAH, Felipe Andreoli “the new CD is heavy enough. Of course, with melodic parts which Almah has always had, with catchy refrains, with the lyrics full of melodies, with cool harmonies and even more, but it’s still quite heavy and it contains some parts which is the heaviest stuff we have ever done. We intend to mix the album in Holland and it will take more time than we would like, because the studio there is quite full of other appointments, but it will work.”

And the frontman and founder of the band, Edu Falaschi came up with a short video message about the new album right from the studio, it’s available here: http://youtu.be/J7c8ug0jW6A

You can find the complete interviews and comments on the official website and Youtube of ALMAH:

ALMAH is: Edu Falaschi – vocals, Felipe Andreoli – bass, Marcelo Barbosa – guitars, Paulo Schroeber – guitars, Marcelo Moreira – drums. The release of the album, as-yet-untitled, is planned for September 2011 worldwide. The new CD will include 10 songs.

PENTAGRAM

PENTAGRAM

Doomed duo of Bobby Liebling / Victor Griffin honor PENTAGRAM’s 40th Anniversary, showcase new songs live!

“Last Days Here” wins big at the 2011 Independent Film Festival of Boston. Documentary picked up by Sundance Selects in North America!

The all star doom duo of Bobby Liebling / Victor Griffin, along with band-mates Greg Turley and new drummer Albert Born, will be hitting the road for the band’s first official US headline tour in support of their acclaimed new album, Last Rites!

The recently released Last Rites marks the first album in 17 years from one of the most influential duos in doom metal history and has garnered favorable reviews across the board. In honor of this accomplishment and to help celebrate the band’s 40th anniversary, PENTAGRAM will hit the US tour trail this coming August with support coming from Valient Thorr and JEFF the Brotherhood.

This is the same duo that stunned over 2,000 people at 2010’s Maryland Deathfest and became the most talked about set of the weekend. That historic set was filmed, mastered, and will be released on DVD under the title, When the Screams Come by Metal Blade on August 16th. And due to high demand, Last Rites will be made available on vinyl in North America on the same date. Preorders for the DVD When the Screams Come and vinyl for Last Rites will be made available at the following location: http://www.metalblade.com/pentagram/

Tour dates are being booked now and will be announced soon!

PENTAGRAM documentary Last Days Here picked up by Sundance Selects for North American distribution (full release below)! Last Days Here has also been awarded the Documentary Grand Jury Prize of the Independent Film Festival Boston that took place on Sunday May 1st. PENTAGRAM won out over 30 other documentaries, many of which created by renown, award winning directors from around the world.

SUNDANCE SELECTS TAKES NORTH AMERICAN RIGHTS TO ACCLAIMED DOCUMENTARY LAST DAYS HERE

New York, NY – Sundance Selects announced today that the company is acquiring North American rights to directors Don Argott (ROCK SCHOOL, THE ART OF THE STEAL) and Demian Fenton’s documentary LAST DAYS HERE. Produced by Sheena M. Joyce, the film studies the storied and tumultuous life of heavy metal legend Bobby Liebling and features the music of Liebling’s band Pentagram, along with appearances by Sean “Pellet” Pelletier, Geof O’Keefe, and Greg Mayne, amongst others. LAST DAYS HERE premiered earlier this year at the 2011 South by Southwest Film Festival. Sundance Selects will release the film theatrically and on its Video-on-Demand (VOD) platform.

Rock and Roll’s history is littered with stories of once promising musicians who crashed and burned after giving into their demons. LAST DAYS HERE tells the story of Bobby Liebling, the lead singer of the cult 1970’s heavy metal band Pentagram. Now in his 50’s and wasting away in his parents’ basement from decades of drug use and self loathing, Bobby’s music is finally discovered by the heavy metal underground. With the help of his friend and manager Sean “Pellet” Pelletier, Bobby attempts to overcome years of addiction, loneliness and broken dreams. Made over 4 years and tracking the most unlikely of friendships, the film becomes a riveting, unexpectedly funny and moving portrait of the ultimate fan’s act of faith when all hope looks lost. Directors Don Argott and Demian Fenton working again with producer Sheena Joyce invest the film with the same sort of suspenseful filmmaking as in their acclaimed THE ART OF THE STEAL and unforgettable characters found in their debut ROCK SCHOOL.

Jonathan Sehring, President of Sundance Selects, said: “LAST DAYS HERE is a wild ride that we all found deeply moving. We look forward to working with Don Argott, Demain Fenton and Sheena Joyce again after our successful collaboration on THE ART OF THE STEAL.”

“Demian, Sheena and I could not be happier to be, once again, in the skilled hands of Sundance Selects. We’re thrilled to partner with them on this story of an unbelievable journey, and look forward to continuing down the path by their side,” said Argott, the film’s Co-Director with Fenton. The deal for LAST DAYS HERE was negotiated by Arianna Bocco, Senior Vice President of Acquisitions & Productions for Sundance Selects and Submarine’s Josh Braun on behalf of the filmmakers.

Sundance Selects is a sister division to IFC Films and IFC Midnight, and is owned and operated by Rainbow Media.

UNEARTH: Darkness In The Light Album Art + Track Listing Revealed

May 12th, 2011

UNEARTH: Darkness In The Light

UNEARTH: Darkness In The Light

Pit-churning, metalcore pioneers, UNEARTH, are currently readying to unveil Darkness In The Light, their fifth full-length in a discography that’s placed the band among the most prolific and plainly ravaging modern metal acts to come out of the U.S. Set for North American release on July 5 via Metal Blade Records, the 11-track long player — their most conceptually personal offering to date — was recorded at Zing Studios in Westfield, Massachusetts with producer (and Killswitch Engage guitarist) Adam Dutkiewicz and mixed at Audiohammer Studios in Sanford, Florida by Mark Lewis (The Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel, Trivium, et al). Sitting in on drums during the recording was Justin Foley of Killswitch Engage/Blood Has Been Shed.

Commented UNEARTH vocalist Trevor Phipps of the band’s latest output: “Darkness In The Light is without a doubt some of the heaviest, most dynamic and memorable tunes we’ve ever written. The disc is littered with the shred ‘n’ stomp-filled songs our fans would expect from us, as well as some added vocal hooks, guitar melodies, guitar solos and some different paths taken in style and structure. We knew we had to continue to separate ourselves from the pack and to cement our place in the heavy metal world as one of the leaders and not as one of the many followers that seem to hop on the trend wagon and give up so easily when the going gets hard. We are here to stay and collectively we couldn’t be any more fired up to play these songs around the world for our fans new and old.”

Darkness In The Light Track Listing:

01. Watch It Burn

02. Ruination Of The Lost

03. Shadows In The Light

04. Eyes Of Black

05. Last Wish

06. Arise The War Cry

07. Equinox

08. Coming Of The Dark

09. The Fallen

10. Overcome

11. Disillusion

The first single, the instantly pummeling “Eyes Of Black,” is currently streaming on the band’s official album landing page, which includes updated tour info, pre-order options and more. Said Phipps of the track: “We chose ‘Eyes Of Black’ to be the first song heard out of the gate as we feel it represents the ‘UNEARTH sound’ and style perfectly and it’s simply a hard-hitting, catchy-as-hell song. The lyrics are also in line with many of the albums darker lyrical themes. I’m not speaking for all of the band, but this is my personal favorite on the album and I can’t wait to get out there and play it live!” To check it out the tune, point your browser to THIS LOCATION.

SARAH JEZEBEL DEVA Signs Deal With Listenable Records

May 12th, 2011
by EvilG
Sarah Jezebel Deva

Sarah Jezebel Deva

Renowned siren, Sarah Jezebel Deva has recently inked a deal with French label Listenable Records. After spending 14 years in Cradle Of Filth as a backing singer, she also spent 6 years in Therion and Mortiis. Sarah has sung on over 35 albums with bands including The Kovenant , The Gathering, Mystic Circle, Trigger The Bloodshed and many others. In 2005, joined forces with Chris Rehn and created Angtoria and received an amazing response in Europe.

Although under her solo name, SARAH JEZEBEL DEVA is a full-fledged touring band and a tight one at that. Her follow up to last year’s A Sign Of Sublime, titled The Corruption Of Mercy, will be released in late June on Listenable Records.

Sarah comments:

“We are extremely proud and excited to announce that we have signed a 3 album deal with the mighty Listenable Records. We have slowly been writing the new album “The Corruption Of Mercy” over the last 12 months, in between shows and other musical priorities at Escape Route Studio’s in Essex, England. A majority of the album was written by myself and Dan Abela but further down the line, we enlisted the help of Pzy Clone from The Kovenant for his amazing orchestrations and programming. Pzy Clone truly was the icing on the cake for this album. In our eyes, this album should have been the first cd released under the SJD name and we feel its totally on par with Angtoria’s “God Has A Plan For Us All”. The release date will be June 20th and it couldn’t come sooner for us! ”

DECAPITATED: NEW ALBUM ARTWORK REVEALED

May 12th, 2011
by EvilG

Technical death metal band DECAPITATED from Poland have released the album artwork to their fifth studio album and Nuclear Blast debut, Carnival Is Forever.  The album will be released in North America on July 12th.

Decapitated - Carnival Is Forever

Decapitated - Carnival Is Forever

Guitarist & founding member Wacław “Vogg” Kiełtyka shares a few words about the cover art’s intent and photography by Lukasz Jaszak:

“Very intriguing and quite strange for a metal album but surely staying in memory.  A vital thing is that it’s a photo. We did not want any computer graphics this time or anything artificial or plastic.  The same regards the production of the album. We had actually been thinking about getting a painting for the cover but unfortunately we couldn’t do it. Maybe next time.”

About the album title, Vogg has previously stated:

Carnival: war, rape, lies, pathology, evil displayed through certain events and situations of the latest years in the world.  Is Forever – I guess it doesn’t need explaining.  Both the text and the title are bitterly ironic.”

Carnival Is Forever is the follow-up to 2006’s Organic Hallucinosis and was produced by Wacek Kiełtyka and sound engineered by Malta Arkadiusz Malczewski.  Drums & mixing duties were handled by Daniel Bergstrand (BEHEMOTH, MESHUGGAH, DIMMU BORGIR, KEEP OF KALESSIN, DEFLESHED).  The author of the album’s lyrics is Jarek Szubrycht, music journalist, author of No Mercy – the world’s first biography of thrash metal legends SLAYER.

The band will be self-releasing the new album in their native Poland.

DECAPITATED’s line-up includes: Wacław “Vogg” Kiełtyka on guitar, Kerim “Krimh” Lechner (Thorns Of Ivy, Tone Intimacy) on drums, Rafał Piotrowski (Ketha, Forgotten Souls) on lead vocals, and Filip “Heinrich” Hałucha (Vesania, Rootwater, Unsun, Masachist) on bass.

WOODS OF YPRES POST NORTH AMERICAN TOUR UPDATE, VIDEO AVAILABLE

May 12th, 2011
by EvilG

Canadian blackened doom metallers WOODS OF YPRES are on the road in North America after kicking off a headlining tour last week.

The month-long “Pain & Piss” tour will see the band trekking around the USA and Canada following the recent re-release of the band’s latest album, WOODS 4: THE GREEN ALBUM.

Watch the band’s first tour update video:

WOODS OF YPRES frontman DAVID GOLD comments:

“Writing to you from a murder motel in Western Pennsylvania where we’re pounding Polish vodka and editing tour videos until 4am EST…  We’re back on the road again already this year, further supporting the release of W4: The Green Album in North America!  The PAIN & PISS Tour (because that’s what tour really is, for us, referencing the chorus of our song “Wet Leather”) will have us playing 34 shows in 37 days, covering Eastern USA, Western Canada, and a counter-clockwise DOOM-loop of the coast of the good ol’ US of A.

“The new setlist includes a little of almost everything!  W4: The Green Album songs, some classic WOODS OF YPRES black metal from 2002’s “Against the Seasons: Cold Winter Songs from the Dead Summer Heat”, half of the “Summer Black Metal” from 2004’s “Pursuit of the Sun & Allure of the Earth” and even a track from our fresh new Woods IV.5 “home” 7-inch vinyl release!  The only album we’re not playing songs from is the cold and bleak “WIII: Deepest Roots & Darkest Blues” which is simply out of season and hard to incorporate into a summer tour of the hot and hotter USA (but catch those “Northern Cold” songs again on tours this fall and winter, already in the works!).

“As soon as we get off the road in June, we go back into full-time writing mode and then into the studio this August to record the next WOODS OF YPRES full-length: “Woods 5″.  More details soon!”

WOODS OF YPRES guitarist JOEL VIOLETTE adds:

“Hey everyone, how’s it going?  We’re going strong here on day 7 of our 38-day North American tour.  The dates with Novembers Doom, Gwynbleidd, and GDZ this weekend were awesome, and it was an honour to share the stage with those guys!  Now tonight we’re hard at work carving up the first v-log from this tour.  Tomorrow we hit the Motor City, hard!  See you on tour!”

See WOODS OF YPRES live on the “Pain & Piss” tour at the following shows:

May 11 – Detroit, MI – Magic Stick

LAST CHANCE TO REASON teamed up with producer Jamie King (Between the Buried and Me) to create a modern take on the classic progressive concept album. Drawing influence from the 70’s prog of King Crimson and Yes, composers Steve Reich and Schoenberg as well as prog-metal masters Opeth, Dream Theater and Cynic, LCTR’s “Level 2” takes the band in awe-inspiring new directions.

Set in a Tron-like virtual world, the album’s concept revolves around the relationship between man and technology, our move from physical reality to virtual spaces and what these changes mean to our lives and our art. The lyrics are expressed from the point of view of an artificial intelligence facing the violent reality of a videogame world.

Since forming in 2005, LAST CHANCE TO REASON has shared the stage with Atheist, Born of Osiris, Periphery, The Red Chord, Daath, Revocation, Unearth and many more.

NeraNature Release “Precious Now” Video

May 12th, 2011
by EvilG

This Monday was the day of the official premiere of the debut solo album by Nera, Darzamat’s singer, entitled “Foresting Wounds”. The next song promoting this album is “Precious Now”, for which a video has been shot. The video can be viewed on Metal Mind Productions’ official channel on YouTube.

Nera comments on the video: “Actually we chose the song ‘Precious Now’ months ago, since it’s one of my favourite tracks on the album. The script was being shaped in my head week after week, though shooting the video took us only a couple of days. On the literal level, it’s about running away from the city to slow down the pace, gather one’s thoughts, to spend some time in solitude. The lyrics, in turn, are about enjoying the “here and now”, leaving all troublesome memories behind, as also breaking free from the snares of one’s plans for the future. All we have is this passing moment…”

The video was shot and edited by a young artist going by the pseudonym Stanley McNoly.

NeraNature was founded by Nera in 2009. The project appeared as a space where the air is filled with matters lingering in her head, a bit more intimate, private and sometimes bizarre and freakish. “I’ve been waiting for a long time for the right place and time to find an outlet for my personal thoughts and beliefs. This is the time and place” – explains Nera. The name of the band is a combination of two words: Nera, the nickname of the vocalist, and Nature, referring to a reflection on a deep connection with the environment. It can also be interpreted as the nature of Nera – a diversity of views reflected in the songs. The feminine character of lyrics imbued with the feminist outlook on life constitutes one of the most significant elements of the projects, touching upon such issues as man’s detachment from nature and running away from himself/herself.

“Foresting Wounds” contains 12 compositions including Garbage’s cover “The World Is Not Enough”. The album is out now in Europe. US’ release date has been set up for 12th July (via MVD).

AZARATH presents cover artwork for “Blasphemers’ Maledictions”; Tour with Bulldozer and Witchmaster confirmed

May 12th, 2011
by EvilG

AZARATH, second band of Behemoth’s drummer – Inferno, has recently finished working on its fifth album “BLASPHEMERS’ MALEDICTIONS” . Recording session took place in January and February in famous Hertz Studio (Behemoth, Vader, Lost Soul) where Wiesławscy Bros were responsible for production, mixing and mastering duties. Cover artwork and layout was painted and designed by Zbigniew M. Bielak (Absu, Watain, Destroyer666, Autopsy), who comments on his impressions in this way: “A new album, a new Azarath. At any given angle – Art Nouveau. Perverse ornaments, masses of air, venomous malevolence in seemingly soothing forms… Forging these virtues into an image was indeed quite some challenge, even though some seeds of the vision were already couple years old. ‘Blasphemers’ Maledictions’ is indeed an unexpectedly crisp waft in the steadily disappointing deathmetal milieu, alas – to anticipate teutonic translation –  a WICHTIG Hour strikes!”

Here you can check this amazing work of art: http://witchinghour.pl/web_new/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/AZARATH-TITLE.jpg

Fifth Azarath album will be released worldwide by Witching Hour Productions in June 2011 as exclusive digibook and limited 12” LP.

In September 2011 Azarath will embark on tour in Poland together with Italian speed/black metal masters BULLDOZER. Support acts are WITCHMASTER and DEUS MORTEM, who will be promoting their new EP. ENSLAVED – New EP “THE SLEEPING GODS”

May 12th, 2011
by EvilG
ENSLAVED - New EP "THE SLEEPING GODS"

ENSLAVED - "THE SLEEPING GODS"

Norwegian progressive/psychedelic extreme metal trailblazers ENSLAVED are set to release The Sleeping Gods via Scion A/V as a free downloadable five song EP on May 10th. Following up on last year’s near-universally praised Axioma Ethica Odini, the EP finds the quintet once again expanding the boundaries of what metal can be, deftly incorporating influences from across the musical spectrum. Mainly recorded in Solslottet Studio in Bergen, and partly in the band’s own home studio, the effort finds the group sounding leaner and more confident than ever, part and parcel of maintaining a presence at the foreground of the international metal movement for 20 years.

Throughout its 30 minute playing time, the EP sways and punches in equal measure, in no small part due to the dexterous and powerful rhythm section of vocalist/bassist Grutle Kjellson and drummer Cato Bækkevold. Herbrand Larsen’s swirling keyboard textures form an ether around Ice Dale and Ivar Bjørnson’s guitars, which ooze tasteful sophistication and melodic sensibility in equal measure with their crushing, impenetrable force. This release is a must have for both Enslaved fans and fans of progressive music in general.

In its continual effort to show support for the arts, Scion covers all production, licensing and distribution costs for the A/V projects and all proceeds go directly back to the label and artists involved. “It’s exciting to be collaborating with ENSLAVED on this release. We feel the pairing is vital as we aim for the label’s approach to embody the same sense of forward thinking as the band’s music” says Jeri Yoshizu, Manager of Sales Promotions for Scion.
