OZZY Statement On ‘The Daily Mail Online’ 9-11 Story

October 13th, 2014
by Celtic Bob

“Firstly, I never spoke to ‘The Mail Online.’  Several quotes were pulled from another interview I did for The Shortlist that was posted earlier in the day and were taken out of context to create ‘The Mail Online’ story [about 9-11].   I apologize to anyone who may see these quotes and believe this is actually how I feel.  Please know that I would never want to offend or hurt anyone–that was never or would ever be my intention.  You would think that at my age I would finally realize that any conversation with a journalist can be twisted, reprinted and made into another story. It’s another life lesson learned.

My representatives have asked ‘The Mail Online’ to pull the piece, but of course, they’ve refused and now it has been subsequently picked up worldwide because of the sensational slant ‘The Mail Online’ put on the story.

Love and peace to everyone.  May your God go with you.”

SLASH: World On Fire Receives Critical Acclaim

October 13th, 2014
by Celtic Bob

SLASH and his band Featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators–who unleashed their Top Ten new album WORLD ON FIRE late last month to worldwide acclaim– have now ascended to #1 at U.S. Rock Radio with the album’s hell-raising first single and title track. The new album marks SLASH’s third straight album to debut in the Top Ten and clocked over 12 Top Ten debuts around the world. Listen to the song “World On Fire” HERE and watch the video HERE.

SLASH featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators “Live From the Roxy” will air as a 90-minute concert special for broadcast exclusively on national television via DIRECTV’s Audience Network (Channel 239)  on Saturday, Nov. 9th at 8 p.m. Presented by musician retailer Guitar Center,  the full rock concert was filmed in 4k and 5.1 surround sound and features songs spanning SLASH’s storied career including material WORLD ON FIRE as well as Guns N’ Roses material.

Both the new album WORLD ON FIRE and the band’s explosive live performances are garnering SLASH some of the best critical acclaim of his career from media worldwide. Check out a sample of the critical reaction for the live shows and the album:

Orange County Register “Slash, known for his guitar work in Guns N’ Roses and the supergroup Velvet Revolver, as well as his more recent solo career, showed up on stage with a wide grin. He was decked out in his signature black leather top hat and mirrored aviator sunglasses, and loyal devotees that were pressed up against the stage got an up-close-and-personal look at his mesmerizing finger work. He made it look effortless as the band launched into the opening track, ‘You’re a Lie.’ While Kennedy did 90 percent of the vocal work, bassist Todd Kerns stepped up to the mic and impressed during two songs, Slash’s solo cut ‘Doctor Alibi’ and Guns N’ Roses ‘Out ta Get Me.’ There were times when the already small venue seemed to get even smaller as Slash, who was 100 percent in the moment and in his element, would lean out into the audience and start shredding just inches from their happy faces. Beads of sweat dripped from his hands and off of the various Gibson Les Pauls he beat up during the set and the double neck guitar he brought out for ‘Anastasia.’ The band delivered an extended and powerful performance of GNR’s ‘Rocket Queen,’ and it was certainly a memorable moment when Slash walked to the very front of the stage, stood up on the amp, hoisted his guitar up on his knee and dug into ‘Sweet Child ‘O Mine.’ Fans roared along to Velvet Revolver’s ‘Slither’ and after a quick break the band returned to encore with a very rowdy and rockin’ ‘Paradise City.’” (Sept. 24, 2014)

Loudwire “The hometown hero started his journey at the legendary Troubadour for a sweaty, packed, no holds barred performance that left those in the crowd rocked to the core and wanting for more. The headlining act was welcomed with a carnival-like soundtrack before launching into the show opener ‘You’re a Lie.’ ‘Nighttrain’ followed, giving audiences their first of several Guns N’ Roses classics of the night, while ‘Halo’ and ‘Standing in the Sun’ kept the momentum going and the energy high. It was six songs in before Slash and his band tackled the new material, but ‘Stone Blind’ was a solid choice to lead off with as the track was met with a rousing reaction and no noticeable drop off from the crowd. After ‘You Could Be Mine,’ Kennedy turned the vocals over to bassist Todd Kerns for a pair of tracks — ‘Doctor Alibi’ and the GN’R classic ‘Out Ta Get Me.’ The band chose this night in West Hollywood to provide the live debut of ‘Wicked Stone’ off the World on Fire album and this blistering song turned into an all-out jam with the crowd responding in kind. ’30 Years to Life,’ ‘Bent to Fly’ and the current single ‘World on Fire’ also provided a great live representation of the newly released Slash album as well. As for the remainder of the set, it was populated with GN’R favorites like ‘Rocket Queen,’ which featured an epic Slash guitar solo, ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ and the encore favorite ‘Paradise City.’ Other standouts included the Velvet Revolver favorite ‘Slither,’ with Kennedy leading the crowd in fist-pumping and singing along, and Slash’s own standouts ‘Starlight,’ ‘Anastasia’ and ‘By the Sword.’”  (Sept. 24. 2014)

Guitar World “…as a diverse record that covers a multitude of musical feels with a rawness and energy that’s reminiscent of Slash’s early work with Guns N’ Roses. Make no mistake about it: World On Fire is not a solo project. It was recorded by a band with all four members contributing their strengths as a whole.” (Sept. 2, 2014)

Premier Guitar “With his current band, it appears Slash has found something he’s been looking for: a band that ignites together…This chemistry comes through on the group’s new album ‘WORLD ON FIRE.’ With its cohesive sound, this naturally flowing collection of 18 barnburners provides a foundation for Slash’s extraterrestrial, high-flying tones and extensive soloing.” (August 2014)

The Sun (U.K.) “The title track is an energetic rock anthem filled with the unmistakably jagged bluesy riffs and solos from Slash’s guitar. Other highlights are the unstoppable ‘Wicked Stone’ and the more mellow ‘Avalon.’” (Sept 20, 2014)

Guitar Player “The group [Slash with Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators] is now three albums into their career, and its latest, WORLD ON FIRE (Dik Hayd)—tracked as usual on analog tape—features some of the warmest-rock guitar textures, most dimensional and contrapuntal guitar arrangements, and most downright killin’riffs Slash has ever delivered. It also features camaraderie, chemistry, work ethic, and to use a rhythm section term, gelling that Slash-after paying more than his share of drama dues with those other two bands-certainly deserves. In Kennedy, Slash has found a lead singer who not only kills both the new stuff and the old, he also shows up to soundcheck on time. Guns, Revolver and Snakepit were all cool, but Slash now playing huge crowds under his own name, and playing the music he wants to, has finally found his real dream band.”  (Cover story, Oct. 2014)

ArtistDirect.com “delivered a brash, ballsy, and brilliant seventeen-song slab in the form of World on Fire. Slash’s third solo album feels like a new beginning not only for the guitar god, but for rock music as well.” (September 15, 2014)

Sunday Mail (U.K) “…A high octane ride.” (Sept 21, 2014)

The Times (U.K.) “’Safari Inn’ is a heavy-duty, axe-wailing instrumental off new album ‘WORLD ON FIRE.’” (Sept 20, 2014)

WORLD ON FIRE marks SLASH’s third solo offering and second album with his official band The Conspirators which features MYLES KENNEDY (vocals), BRENT FITZ (drums) and TODD KERNS (bass). For WORLD ON FIRE (released on Slash’s own Dik Hayd International and distributed through Caroline), SLASH and the band worked with producer Michael “Elvis” Baskette (Alter Bridge, Falling In Reverse, Incubus) to create a powerful new turn for the band in 17 songs. WORLD ON FIRE is the follow-up to 2012’s Apocalyptic Love which debuted at #4 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and earned SLASH two No. 1 U.S. rock radio hits–his first-ever solo–with “You’re A Lie” and “Standing In The Sun.”

HEAVEN & EARTH In Studio With New Band Lineup

October 13th, 2014
by Celtic Bob

Coming off last year’s acclaimed album Dig and an enthusiastically received 17-date 2014 European concert tour, HEAVEN & EARTH–who masterfully fuse elements of hard rock, blues and bits of classical–are back in the studio working on a new album (produced by Dave Jenkins and available via Quarto Valley Records) for 2015 with a new lineup. The Los Angeles-based band’s heralded musicians Stuart Smith (band founder/guitarist) and Joe Retta (vocals) are now joined by Kenny Aronoff (drums), Lynn Sorensen of Paul Rogers/Bad Company (bass/vocals) and Ty Bailie (keyboards).

Stuart Smith, an England-raised protégé of Ritchie Blackmore, is excited to share this news about the new HEAVEN & EARTH album (title and release date are TBA) and line-up. He says: “Joe Retta and I couldn’t be more excited that Quarto Valley Records are once again behind us and that we have Lynn, Kenny and Ty on the new album. The writing chemistry between us is great and we have about 20 good ideas in the pot so far which we’re working on. I think it’s going to be Heaven & Earth’s best album yet.”

HEAVEN & EARTH’s new line-up includes:

Kenny Aronoff, among the world’s most in-demand session drummers, will bring his tremendous drive, enthusiasm and creativity to HEAVEN & EARTH. In the mid-80s, Kenny began to develop an enormously successful career as a studio musician and went on to tour worldwide with artists including The Smashing Pumpkins, Bob Seger, John Fogerty, Melissa Etheridge, Joe Cocker, Willie Nelson, Styx, Goo Goo Dolls, Billy Gibbons, Ringo Starr, Dr. John, Gregg Allman, and many many more.
Seasoned bassist/vocalist Lynn Sorensen–who’s been Paul Rodgers’ long time bass player and backing vocalist for over 10 years and moved over to Bad Company with Paul when he reformed Bad Company in 2008–is excited to join the band: “As a long time fan of Heaven & Earth it is an honor to have the opportunity to play with them. The Dig album simply blows my mind,” says Lynn.
Established B3 player/first-class keyboardist and founding member of the award-winning progressive jazz duo Ego Band USA, Ty Bailie brings his exceptional talents to HEAVEN & EARTH. Ty’s diverse talent and love of all things music has lead to him performing with a myriad of musical icons including: Steve Cropper (Booker T. and the M.G.’s), Kenny Burrell, Peter Frampton, Robbie Robertson (Bob Dylan, the Band), Wanda Jackson, Duff McKagan (Guns N’ Roses), Mike McCready (Pearl Jam), Ann Wilson (Heart), Ace Frehley (KISS), Counting Crows, Soundgarden, Yes and Tool, among others.
HEAVEN & EARTH connected strongly with music audiences on their 17-date European tour, garnering strong reviews along the way. The band will return to Europe next year when they play the Vasby Festival in Stockholm, Sweden July 17-28, 2015.

“Those in the venue witnessed a very special show in an intimate setting and such an opportunity won`t be available for long as the band are destined for much bigger venues.” (Metal Express Radio)
“What a Night!…On the evidence of this performance, you should move on Heaven & Earth, not to miss them!” (Rocktopia)
“Heaven & Earth may well have delivered one of the best shows of the year….A very special show by a hugely talented band” (The Newcastle Chronicle)
“The highly acclaimed quintet from Los Angeles have a created a fusion of Blues and Hard Rock with a touch of classical which contains everything you could wish for…power anthems, ballads and melodic rock rub shoulders in a rather potent mix” (The Bolton News)
HEAVEN & EARTH’s last album Dig (released this past April on Quarto Valley Records) was produced by Dave Jenkins–who’s turned the knobs for everyone from Metallica to Tower of Power—and features special guests Howard Leese (Heart, Paul Rodgers), Richie Sambora (Bon Jovi) and David Paich (Toto). HEAVEN & EARTH’s music comes together explosively on the album’s first single “No Money, No Love” and its controversial video which has logged over 500,000 view and can be viewed here: http://tinyurl.com/cdopr5d. Click here to stream Dig.

The origins of HEAVEN & EARTH align the band’s founder and visionary, Stuart Smith, with a rich lineage of rock’s most celebrated musicians. Kelly Hansen (Foreigner), Joe Lynn Turner (Rainbow) and Kelly Keeling (King Kobra) all fronted the band at various junctures. Guitarists Richie Sambora (Bon Jovi) and Howard Leese (Heart, Paul Rodgers), singer and bassist Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Country Communion), bassist Steve Priest (Sweet) and drummer Carmine Appice (Jeff Beck Group/Vanilla Fudge/Rod Stewart), among others, have each contributed their extraordinary talents to HEAVEN & EARTH’s first two albums: Heaven & Earth Featuring Stuart Smith (1994) and Windows to the World (2000). HEAVEN & EARTH’s groundbreaking debut album, Heaven & Earth Featuring Stuart Smith, is considered a cult classic and brought Smith to the forefront of the guitar elite being compared in the press to Deep Purple’s Ritchie Blackmore, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page and garnering Smith the award for “Best Guitarist” and “Best New CD” for three years running at the Los Angeles All Access Music Awards. In the summer of 2012, the guitarist set out to mold HEAVEN & EARTH into a world-class recording and touring band which led to the recording of their new album Dig and now the future has never looked brighter for the band.

However, the band was rescued as two new old old members returned to the fold and a new guitarist was recruited to the ranks as well. The Haunted returned back to the daylight after being on the edge with the strong and pretty furious EXIT WOUNDS album. Metal-Rules.com sat down and talked to the singer Marco Aro about his return to the band, working on the new album, and finally, a little bit about Swedish thrash(?).

EXODUS – Interview With Steve “Zetro” Souza

October 11th, 2014
by Peter Atkinson

exodus-logo (585x177)

Interview with frontman Steve “Zetro” Souza

By Peter Atkinson

Photos from https://www.facebook.com/exodusattack

When I spoke with Steve “Zetro” Souza last spring, he talked about prepping his new band Hatriot – which includes two of his sons, drummer Nick and bassist Cody – to learn some old songs from his twice-former band Exodus as they readied for upcoming shows in support of Hatriot’s second album, Dawn of the New Centurion. Three months later, he found himself frantically prepping to learn new Exodus material for a very different reason – a chance to return to the band, which had just dismissed frontman Rob Dukes after a nine-year stint, and see if a third time was the charm.

The second go-round ended famously badly in 2004 on the eve of a South American tour, not long after the release Exodus’ comeback album Tempo of the Damned, which followed a long hiatus and the death of singer Paul Baloff – who Souza had replaced in 1986 and whom the band had initially attempted a reunion with. Guitarist Gary Holt’s now-legendary Souza-skewering forum postings from that time are still reverberating around the Interwebs, even though the two have been back on speaking terms for some time. Indeed, they had even shared the stage together on several occasions in recent years.

This new go-round certainly was a whirlwind “courtship.” Less than a week after Dukes’ dismissal, Souza was in the studio laying down the vocals for the new Exodus album Blood In, Blood Out, which was due out Oct. 14 on Nuclear Blast, and soon thereafter the band played a series of festival shows – with Holt often performing double duty with his “other band,” Slayer. A headline tour of South America and a U.S. tour with Slayer and Suicidal Tendencies were set to launch the album.

On the phone from Oakland, Souza spoke excitedly about the rather dramatic turn of events that brought him back into the Exodus fold – which is rounded out by Holt, guitarist Lee Altus, bassist Jack Gibson and founding drummer Tom Hunting – the sense of urgency that fueled the new album and the scramble to get ready to do his part, and making the most of this new/next opportunity – all with lots of football metaphors and F bombs.

Blind Guardian - “Twilight of the Gods” out on December 5, 2014!

Blind Guardian – “Twilight of the Gods” out on December 5, 2014!

The wait is over! Blind Guardian is back! The world’s most popular fantasy metal band gives us Twilight of the Gods; the first single from their long-awaited new album, to be unleashed upon the world in January 2015.

“Twilight of the Gods”, the first creation of the Krefeld, Germany based band in more than four years will be released on December 5, 2014 via Nuclear Blast. Blind Guardian vocalist Hansi Kürsch assures, “this song is a statement about Blind Guardian. The pure definition of all that the band stands for: it is innovative, melodic and brutal.” And thus a perfect choice to get fans into the proper mood for the upcoming album.

“Twilight of the Gods” is a “neck breaker” in the true tradition of Blind Guardian “that will captivate you with the most epic and catchy chorus we’ve ever written,” says Kürsch.

In “Twilight of the Gods” Blind Guardian is singing about the deities’ waning power; no such times are in sight for the band. Blind Guardian is back with a vengeance; with an impressive single from an overwhelming record!
