Gus G

Guitar virtuoso GUS G. has signed a worldwide solo deal with Century Media Records. Well known in rock and metal circles for his work as OZZY OSBOURNE’s guitarist and as leader of his own band FIREWIND, GUS G. will make his solo debut with the release of ‘I AM THE FIRE’ in spring 2014.

Says GUS G. of the signing: “Loyalty is a very important thing in the music business, and for me it just felt natural to trust my first solo effort to the hands of the record company that has been loyal, supportive, and has helped build my career for more than 11 years now – a label that I truly feel as a family. Thank you Robert Kampf, Leif Jensen, Antje Lange, Don Robertson, Steve Joh, Jens Prueter, Nasrin Vahdani, Paul Gargano and the rest of the Century family! I truly feel blessed to be a part of CM history and look forward to exploring new territories with this new album!”

Century Media founder and owner Robert Kampf adds: “‘I AM THE FIRE’ is going to be another display of the amazing talent GUS G. possesses. We at Century Media are proud to work with a player and songwriter of his class and status, as well as the fantastic new album that Gus has crafted. Horns up!”

‘I AM THE FIRE’ was mixed by Jay Ruston [ANTHRAX, STONE SOUR, STEEL PANTHER] and was recorded between Los Angeles and Gus’ home country of Greece through the latter half of 2013. A few of the album’s tracks include “Eyes Wide Open,” “Redemption,” “End Of The Line” and “Blame It On Me.” The album showcases a well-balanced mix of active rock, classic hard rock, traditional metal and guitar-driven instrumentals, taking listeners on a diverse journey and opening doors to GUS G.’s soulful playing. Guest musicians and vocalists will be revealed in the coming weeks. Read the rest of this entry »

Esoteric

It’s been a rough few years for Esoteric, with only two original members remaining, and a number of line up changes over the past few years. The band have returned stronger than ever, releasing arguably the best album to date, Paragon of Dissonance in 2011. Catching them before they go on stage at the Garage, we have a quick chat about what the northern masters of depression have in store for the future.

Heading out again on tour, this time supporting Dark Tranquillity, Tristania were once again ready to show London what they’re made of. With their new album, DARKEST WHITE receiving rave reviews and the first nights of the tour being sold out, it was fair to say that things are going well for Tristania.

Ahead of the sold out show at The Underworld in Camden, London I spoke to vocalist Mariangela Demurtas to find out more about the new album, her influences and how things have changed since she joined the band six years ago.

Dark Tranquillity

Dark Tranquillity

Since their album Skydancer was first being released in 1993, it’s fair to say that Dark Tranquillity have racked up the releases since then. Hailing from Sweden, the new album, Construct is their tenth album from the melodic death metal’ers. With their World Construct tour taking them across Europe this year before heading over to America, Japan and Australia for early 2014, I took the opportunity to speak to Niklas Sundin (guitar).

Just after finishing their sound check for the first night of the tour at The Underworld in Camden, I sat down with Niklas to talk more about touring, the different audiences and to find out more about their new release, Construct.

Satyricon

Satyricon

After what seems like a very long 5 year wait, Satyricon return to London off the back of what once again has been a new album to divide opinion about the band. Given that the new album was chosen to be self-titled, it needed to be something defining to the style and progression of the band and their sound over the years and in my opinion it seems like they have achieved a really progressive mix of old and new styles whilst also experimenting into the future with tracks like Phoenix which features the first melodic lead vocals in Satyricon’s history.

Rhapsody Of Fire

Despite the recent split between the founding members, Italian symphonic metal band Rhapsody of Fire still seem to be on full form, returning to bring us DARK WINGS OF STEEL. The sagas may be past and buried now but this band continues to live on, bringing out two powerful new players in 2011, and hitting both the road and the studio to continue spreading tales of magic, wizards and dragons to anyone willing to listen. Sat in a swanky hotel in the center of London, we chat to founding member Alex Staropoli about life in Rhapsody after Lucca and what the future holds for the band.
