Mastermind Yannis Androulakakis – Royal Quest
Interviewed by: Anders Sandvall
Thanks to Birgitt Schwanke at GerMusica for setting up the interview.
Thanks to GerMusica for the promo pictuers
Yannis Androulakakis is a Greek guitarist and composer who has worked with metal, music for theater/musicals, and film soundtracks. In 1998 he and bass player Dennis Bekatoros formed the metal act Royal Quest and the work on a concept album began the year after. A lots of twists and turns ended up in Androulakakis making the album on his own, and it took him several years to finish off the album, but in 2014 the opus was finally ready to be unleashed. THE TALE OF MAN is the name of the album, and it’s a very ambitious work Androulakakis has unveiled to the masses. The album contains four different characters that bring the tale forward, and Androulakakis plays all the instruments on his own. In the interview Androulakakis speaks about the work he put into the album, work that began long before the legendary metal opera Avantasia was born, the past present and future of his career, and what he thinks of the Greek metal scene. Be sure to check out THE TALE OF MAN if you’re into metal operas like Avantasia, Genius etc.

British Exodus fans couldn’t be more happy this year! Their idols offered them two consecutive crazy shows in London on the 23rd and 24th of March. It was the right time for us to discuss with bassist Jack Gibson about their last critically acclaimed assault “Blood In Blood Out”, the return of charismatic vocalist Steve “Zetro” Souza and other topics. I would like to thank Jack Gibson for his time and kindness.

In celebration of Trooper Premium British Beer smashing through the 10 million pint barrier in just over 2 years, a special limited edition bottled brew, Trooper 666, will be made available to Trooper and Iron Maiden fans in many countries around the world from the 1st October 2015.
At the request of fans, and following the huge success of Trooper, Robinsons will make an even stronger ABV limited edition of the original brew. Again created by Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson in collaboration with Robinsons Brewery of Cheshire, this supercharged 6.6% version of the 4.7% bottled version will be available this autumn for a limited period only.
Beer aficionado Dickinson explained, “Our fans have been asking for a stronger brew and it seemed only right to do this at 6.6% ABV! Despite the links with our song “The Number of The Beast”, the name Trooper 666 has actually come about as a result of some detailed research by historian Terry Brighton, who has shown that there were in fact 666 soldiers that rode in The Charge of the Light Brigade during the Battle of Balaclava in 1854, and not just the 600 of Tennyson’s famous poem.”
Brighton, author of Hell Riders: The Truth About The Charge Of The Light Brigade asserts, “A nominal roll was made at the time listing the cavalrymen present at Balaclava – I then used other contemporary records, of those killed and wounded, taken prisoner, assigned to other duties and so on, to prove who did and did not charge, and amazingly it added up to 666! Remarkably one of the extras was the hungover Regimental butcher, who charged wearing his butcher’s overall in place of his uniform, and wielding a butcher’s axe instead of a sabre.”
“Trooper 666 is the same award-winning Trooper recipe but brewed to a higher gravity,” explains Trooper Brand Manager John Robinson. “The result is another wonderfully authentic beer that is packed with malt but slightly sweeter than the original. It has a dry finish and is remarkably moreish.”
Britain’s Bloodstock Festival have added the finishing touches to their line up.
Joining the Hobgoblin New Blood Stage are Swedish Alternative Metal outfit: We Are The Catalyst, Newcastle based Groove Metal group: Tombstone Crow, Melodic Death Metal group Countless Skies – from Hertfordshire; Progressive metallers Martyr De Mona; sludge group Victorian Whore Dogs and London based acts: Skarthia and Wretched Toad.
According to the Bloodstock Facebook page one more set of bands is to be announced before the festival doors open on 6 August.
The original is back! EDGUY frontman Tobias Sammet has returned to the studio to work on the new chapter ofAVANTASIA. The sequel to the successful 2013
album The Mystery Of Time, which charted in 16 countries in Europe, Asia and America, including #2 in Germany, will be called Ghostlights and is scheduled to be released in early 2016. An EP/single is also planned to be released this autumn and in March 2016 a giant all-star ensemble will set off on the GHOSTLIGHTS WORLD TOUR.
AVANTASIA’s mastermind Tobias Sammet commented about the album:
“In the past months I’ve spent a lot of time in the studio, an odd recluse in the basement, secretly working obsessively on something that reads and feels and sounds like a new – very strong – chapter in the story of AVANTASIA. I must sayAVANTASIA is a fantastic outlet for creativity, and it’s truly inspiring to create a piece of music for so many great vocalists and instrumentalists.
The new material is very bombastic and dynamic, and even though it’s extremely diverse, every minute of it sounds likeAVANTASIA. I’m really proud of what we’re creating right now. And as if that wasn’t enough: I’m anxiously looking forward to hitting the road again. I didn’t necessarily expect this to happen as in the past it has always been difficult to align the individual schedules of the guest stars, but things have worked out, and we’re ready to make it happen one more time! We’ll put on a big show, we’re gonna play over three hours, and we’ll take the fans to a magical world all its own – to AVANTASIA. The live setlist is going to embrace the entire history of AVANTASIA, from The Metal Opera to Ghostlights and of course everything in between!”
The world tour will kick off in Berlin on March 4th, 2016.

We hope to see you guys there joining in on the madness!”
Adds BELPHEGOR guitarist/vocalist and mastermind Helmuth Lehner:

Sacred Oath has just posted an audio stream of “Taken” – the first single from their forthcoming album “Ravensong.” Angel Thorne Music has announced they will release the band’s 7th studio album “Ravensong” September 18th 2015 worldwide via ILS/Caroline/Universal.
The public audio stream for “Taken” can be found on the band’s Facebook Page and at https://soundcloud.com/sacred-
“We got adventurous on this one,” says singer-guitarist Rob Thorne, “but it’s still very much an Oath record – melodic and dark. I’d have to say it was the best experience I’ve had making an album since we did the ‘Sacred Oath’ album in 2009.”
Taken from their upcoming release ‘World In Decay’ – produced by well known Grammy winning metal producer Michael Rosen (Forbidden, Testament, Death Angel, Flotsam and Jetsam, Tesla, Vicious Rumors) and due out on August 4th via Cyberdyne Records.
“I hope you guys like this song as much as I do. I really like the way Erik starts out this song with the clean guitar, it has this really cool classic metal beginning before we crank up the intensity into full on ripping thrash metal.” – drummer Steve Spitzbart.
The festival Provinssi, formely known as Provinssirock, is one of the oldest summer festivals organized in Finland; the first edition of the festival going back all the way to 1979. The festival is located in the town of Seinäjoki, Western Finland, and one of the best aspects of the festival is its diversity, always mixing different genres of music, from heavy metal to hip hop, from punk to pop, and so on. This year there were about 79,000 festival attendees, making this edition of Provinssi a huge hit. Although the festival started on a Wednesday there were more bands on the last 2 days of the festival, Friday and Saturday, playing in 5 different stages.

Ten years into their career, Apocalyptic Folk maestros Rome are currently marking this anniversary with a world tour in 2015. Still on the trail of previous release ‘A Passage to Rhodesia’, where frontman Jerome Reuter continued his band’s formula of entrancing music with reflective poetry.
Having played as far as Tel-Aviv (Israel), Stockholm (Sweden), St Petersburg (Russia) and Milan (Italy), Rome will continue their tour around the world throughout the year.
Along with an upcoming date on July 18th in London (UK) at the intimate Electrowerkz venue, the band will also make their way to Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) in October, before eventually coming back to their native Luxembourg this December.
Noted for their influences in world literature from Camus to Genet, and creating ‘a new kind of intertextuality between word and sound’ through Reuter’s careful use of ‘collage and sampling techniques’; Rome’s dedicated following from the underground and alternative scenes serve testament to the band’s success for this tour.
Support for the London show comes from Danish dark ambient project, Of The Wand & The Moon, as well as Londoners Naevus and cellist Jo Quail.
Newcomers to the group, who haven’t yet made it to any of the remaining tour dates, can listen to one example of Rome’s music here:

The Top 5 Transition Albums
Some bands (Motorhead, Obituary, Deicide) never change, but most do evolve. There is often a turning point from one album to the next where this transition takes place. It is to that change that we look this week.
For our purposes, a transition is defined as one that involves a change in style/sound. It does not necessarily have to involve any member changes. Also it should be a transition you like.
Quebec Death Metal supergroup AKURION (Featuring past and present members of Cryptopsy, Neuraxis, Phobocosm, Augury, Vengeful) release teaser trailer and release date of new music.
Akurion is finally here! The long awaited extreme metal project from one of Montreal’s finest collectives has decided to show its face to the public.
AKURION marks the long awaited return of Whisper Supremacy/..And Then You’ll Beg era Cryptopsy vocalist Mike DiSalvo alongside Rob Milley (Neuraxis/Phobocosm), Oli Pinard (Cryptopsy/Neuraxis/Vengeful) and Tommy McKinnon (ex-Neuraxis/ex-Augury)

Formed in 2012, fresh off the last Neuraxis tour, Rob had approached Mike to see if he would be interested in working on some ideas that he had for several new songs. The chemistry was immediate and plans were laid out for lyrical content and general structure and arrangement of the riffs. A year was spent working through the songs and when the time was paramount to propel the project forward, Tommy and Oli were sought out due to their one in the same abilities and prowess. Thus Akurion came to fruition.
No weak minds and hearts need apply their ears here.
Akurion is :
