After reuniting four years ago with more than 15 years in hibernation, legendary German heavy metallers ACCEPT have added yet another chapter in the story of one of the most triumphant career comebacks in the history of heavy music, this time with the band’s latest studio release Blind Rage.
For the third time since 2010, ACCEPT’s latest album has cracked the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart – this time at#35. Blind Rage also holds the #4 position on the Billboard Hard Rock Albums chart. In Canada,Blind Rage has debuted at #114 on the Top 200 & at #21 on the Hard Rock charts. Presciently, Blind Rage debuted at #1 on the German Media Control chart – the best possible chart entry in the career of any German music artist.
“Four years ago, we decided to start ACCEPT anew,” states the band. “Of course, we hoped to reach the fans of heavy metal and leave a few more marks in its history. None of us would have thought that it would come to this. We’d like to thank all who gave us enormous strength and the will to continue on order to make this happen.”
Formed over a decade ago in Seattle, Washington, “Soulbender” is comprised of Queensryche guitarist Michael Wilton, vocalist Nick Pollock (My Sister’s Machine), guitarist Dave Groves (ex-Tin Pan/Fallen Angel) and drummer Wes Hallam (ex-Assault/Fallen Angel). SOULBENDER II contains four all new songs (Turn Anger up, Shoal, Slave To Reality, Seraphim) as well as the ten original tracks (remastered) from the first album (Fix Me, Clockwork and Compass, Rabbit Hole, The American Dream, Samsara, Prime Time, Shoot Poem, This Ocean, Hunger, Three Towers). Michael Wilton describes Soulbender as “a very progressive, hard rock band with very intense musicians and a couple of the members are prodigies”. Official release date for Soulbender is September 30, 2014.
If Stone Cold Steve Austin teamed up with Bo and Luke Duke and got into a heavy duty parking lot brawl on a Saturday night, you would have yourself the personification of six-piece outlaw metal band SCATTERED HAMLET. Known for their rowdy live shows featuring harmonicas, double and triple guitar attacks, and lots of whiskey, SCATTERED HAMLET has been described by Big Wheel Magazine as having “the feel and sound of the American South’s influence modernized for punk and metal consumption.”
Today, SCATTERED HAMLET has unleashed their music video for the track ‘Shelter’! ‘Shelter’ was produced by Grammy-nominated Jason Donaghy and mastered by the legendary Howie Weinberg (White Zombie, Slayer, Danzig). Keeping true to their loyal and growing fan base, the band took to social media and let the fans vote on which song would serve as the first video from the album. Watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aqvgzw03ARI
‘Shelter’ is an autobiographical song that champions trucker speed, quitting your job and heading out on the highway – pretty much what SCATTERED HAMLET is all about! The video for ‘Shelter’ has been preceded by a series of behind-the-scenes “life on the road” videos released weekly, called Hell Rider TV.
According to frontman Adam Joad, a man who is known for performing on top of a beer keg with a shotgun converted into a microphone stand, “We’re pumped to finally get a video out there for the Skeleton Dixie album, we had been so busy touring, shooting a video always kept getting put on the back-burner.”
In addition to this video announcement, SCATTERED HAMLET is excited to announce a U.S. tour, hitting several markets this October. Fresh off a series of tour dates that included support for the Genitorturers and Wayland, combined with an appearance at this year’s Rocklahoma Festival along with industry heavyweights like Black Label Society, Kid Rock, Hell Yeah and Five Finger Death Punch, the band kicks off the tour on October 1st in Los Angeles, CA. Several venues are still TBA, so stay tuned for updates.

2014 Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame inductee and former KISS guitarist Ace Frehley has made history with his new album Space Invader, which debuted at #9 on the Top 200 Chart this week. The LP scores the highest charting position of ANY Kiss solo album ever, and marks Frehley’s first return to the Top 10 since KISS’s 1998 Pyscho Circus reunion album. The album has also sold better in first week sales than Kiss’ recently released Kiss 40 album. Internationally, Space Invader has debuted #1 on the Independent Chart and #16 on the Top 200 Chart in Canada, Top 40 in Switzerland and Sweden, and hit a historic benchmark for the first time ever as a solo artist in Germany.
Space Invader, Frehley’s first studio album in five years, has also received praise from critics. Rolling Stone wrote, “Gene Simmons has claimed Ace Frehley doesn’t deserve to wear Kiss’ Kabuki clown paint, but the former Spaceman’s first solo LP in five years says otherwise,” while Associated Press hailed, “…the original Kiss lead guitarist has recorded his best solo album since his groundbreaking self-titled album in 1978.” Paste also confirmed, “Space Invader is a good rock album, and it’s an even better guitar record.”
Frehley stopped by The Tonight Show prior to his album release to sit in with legendary house band The Roots to perform his classic hit “New York Groove.” Watch here.
Space Invader features nine brand new original songs, including the first single, “Gimme a Feelin’,” as well as a cover of Steve Miller’s classic rock staple “The Joker.” Frehley also tapped long time friend and artist Ken Kelly to create the album art for Space Invader. Kelly created the iconic cover art for two of KISS’s best selling LPS, Destroyer (1976) and Love Gun (1977).
Widely known as the original “Space Ace” and founding guitarist for 16 cumulative years (over 2 tenures) of the multi platinum selling rock band KISS, Frehley is demonstrably the most popular original member. In addition to having the best selling solo album career (vintage or current) among the original foursome, Frehley’s self titled Ace Frehley (1978), went on to sell over one million copies, producing the only Top 40 single, “New York Groove,” from any of the legendary KISS solo albums. The massive hit was most recently featured in an episode of cult show Entourage and was also KISS’ second best selling download in 2012, besting such KISS Army anthems as “I Was Made For Lovin’ You,” “Beth” and “Calling Dr. Love” even after 36 years.
Since departing from KISS, Frehley went on to release four more solo albums and one live EP including his most recent effort, Anomaly in 2009, which debuted at #27 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. Ace also released an autobiography titled “No Regrets,” which debuted at #10 on the NY Times Hardcover Non-Fiction best seller list in November 2011.
Before you get down to moshing in the privacy of your own home, do some serious partying in either Los Angeles or New York when Anthrax’s “Chile On Hell” live DVD is premieres on Monday, September 15, the day before its general release. And, not only will attendees be among the first to see the thrash-masters performing an extended set that features all the fan-favorites in front of a sold-out, rabid crowd in Santiago, Chile, but each event will feature a special Q&A – Scott Ian and “Chile On Hell’s” producer Jay Rustin at the L.A. screening, and Anthrax’s Frank Bello at New York’s.
The premiere is free to fans who pre-order the “Chile On Hell” Blu-ray or DVD from either Vintage Vinyl in Fords, NJ, Looney Tunes in West Babylon, NY, or Amoeba Records in Los Angeles, CA. Each pre-order comes with one wristband that entitles the holder to attend the premiere. Wristbands are limited, and when they’re gone, they’re gone.
“Chile On Hell” will be released on Tuesday, September 16 (Megaforce), and features Joey Belladonna/vocals, Scott Ian/guitar, Charlie Benante/drums, Frank Bello/bass and Jon Donais/lead guitar performing at the Teatro Caupolican in Santiago, Chile on May 10, 2013. The band performed an extended set that featured songs from Anthrax’s entire catalogue including “I Am The Law,” “Indians,” “Madhouse,” “Caught In A Mosh,” “The Devil You Know,” and “I’m Alive.” “Chile On Hell” was recorded in 5.1 Surround Sound, and will retail for $16.98.
“Santiago was the perfect place to film the show for this,” said Anthrax’s Charlie Benante. “When we’d played there in the past, we’d finish our set, play our encore and go back to the dressing room. But every time, the fans would continue to scream and cheer and clap. I mean, they went on and on, they wouldn’t stop. One time Scott and I walked out to the side of the stage just to watch what was going on in the audience, it was intense. Why wouldn’t we want to film a DVD in front of an audience like that?”
The first annual Motörhead’s Motörboat, featuring three of the greatest heavy metal bands in the world–Megadeth, Motörhead, and Anthrax–will sail from Miami, visiting the ports of Key West , Florida and Cozumel just off Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula for the September 22-26, 2014 cruise on the Carnival Ecstasy. “The Loudest Boat In The World” will also feature Testament, Down, High On Fire, plus Kill Devil Hill, Zakk Wylde, Jim Breuer Band, Danko Jones, Fireball Ministry, and Wilson. While onboard, guests will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to interact with band members and will see unforgettable performances on various stages throughout the ship.
Additional onboard performances and activities have been announced for Motörhead’s Motörboat, including a spoken word performance by legendary heavy metal musician, author, and television personality Scott Ian.
Scott’s spoken word performances in support of his upcoming Swearing Words In Glasgow CD (out November 13 via Megaforce Records) are an honest look at the insane life that he has led for the last 31 years, the people he’s met, and the events that coincide. After decades-worth of international touring with Anthrax, bumping elbows with illustrious (and sometimes ridiculous) characters all over the media spectrum, and undergoing general “you won’t believe this” experiences, Scott certainly has some hilarious and surprisingly personal stories to share.
Those onboard Motörhead’s Motörboat will also be treated to a screening of the 2010 documentary film Lemmy, directed by Greg Olliver and Wes Orshoski.
In addition, theme nights for Motörhead’s Motörboat are as follows:
Monday, September 22 — Löud and Hometown Pröud
Motörhead’s Motörboat will have a very diverse and international crowd. Guests are encouraged to be proud of where they come from. Wear a state jersey, don your Nordic horns, paint your face and show your city/state/country pride.
Tuesday, September 23 — Pajamarama
“Rock on out in your jammies!” It’s the biggest slumber party on the open seas. We know some people like to sleep in the buff, so remember that you have to wear something, even if it’s minimal. And who knows, there might even be the biggest pillow fight of all time?
Wednesday, September 24 — Fiesta En Barco
Motörboat is going to Mexico and back. It’s siesta and fiesta day! In the morning – sleep late. We don’t get off the boat in Cozumel until 1pm. (There will be activities a’plenty in the morning – info on those will come later). When we get back, it’s FIESTA all night – bring something from home, or pick up something new in Mexico – show off how you spent your day: sombreros, Mexican wrestling masks, donkeys, your tequila face, anything…
Traditionally, theme nights start after dinner and go late into the night. While guests are not required to dress up, the sea’s the limit with the amount of fun one can have. Find others to join you and dress up in groups. Go stag and stand out in the crowd. Enjoy yourselves…be creative and push the envelope.
Thursday, September 25 — Go To Heaven, Raise Hell
This is our full day at sea! It’s Heaven & Hell, Leather & Lace. It’s the best of both worlds. Show us your good side or your naughty side. As we pay homage to those rock gods that have passed, come to our all star jam dressed as your favorite rocker, groupie, devil, or angel. The sky and the sea are the limit!
On opening day of the baseball season in 2011, San Francisco Giants fan Bryan Stow was beaten in the parking lot of Dodger Stadium by two individuals, who are currently serving a sentence for their actions.
Stow, a proud father of two and a paramedic, sustained severe injuries to his brain and was placed into a medically-induced coma after the incident.
It would be months before he would go outside and, ultimately, more than two years before he would go home.
Shortly after the occurrance, while Stow was in the hospital, Queensryche became aware that he was one of their biggest fans, sporting a sizeable tattoo of the Queensryche logo on his left arm.
At the request of a friend, the band made a surprise visit to Bryan in the hospital that September, which ended up being an experience that both will never forget.
“We were incredibly inspired by his love for life, his love for his family and his love for our music,” states original Queensryche lead singer, Geoff Tate.
With a week remaining in their Farewell tour, Geoff’s version of Queensryche (which will continue on as Operation: Mindcrime after the tour ends) will be auctioning off the Queensryche stage backdrop that has been featured on several tours. “It’s truly a special part of our musical history and we’d like to raise some much-needed funds for Bryan so he can continue his progress.”
The auction will begin at 3:00pm PDT on Sunday, August 31, the day after the very last performance of Queensryche Starring Geoff Tate – The Farewell Tour, and will end at 3:00pm PDT the following Sunday, September 7, 2014. “We’re honored and thankful to have fans like Bryan in our life and would like to present him with a check just prior to Thanksgiving. Every little bit helps at this point and we hope to continue our efforts for Bryan and his family down the road.”
Earlier this month, Bryan came out for the Queensryche Starring Geoff Tate performance in Morgan Hill, California and, more recently, made a clubhouse visit with his son to the San Francisco Giants clubhouse on Sunday, August 17, where he was guided by longtime third base coach Tim Flannery and Giants relief pitcher Jeremy Affeldt.
Flannery, a musician himself, has performed a series of Northern California concerts over the past three years to raise money for Bryan, and plans to continue his efforts as well.
To all music fans… to all sports fans… to all those who just want to do some good…
SONATA ARCTICA TO RELEASE RE-RECORDED 15th ANNIVERSARY EDITION OF ECLIPTICA
Finnish melodic metal heroes SONATA ARCTICA have been keeping themselves very busy lately. Having successfully released their eighth studio album Pariah’s Child this past April – which debuted at #1 in Finland and at #6 on the American Billboard Heatseekers chart – and poised to launch their world tour, band members found the time to re-record their defining 1999 debut album ECLIPTICA, known to many fans as SONATA’s flawless beginning fifteen years ago.
Keyboard player Henrik “Henkka” Klingenberg shares the back-story on how the project came to be:
“When it first was suggested to us by our Japanese label that we’d re-record our debut album ECLIPTICA, it felt a bit weird, but somehow the idea grew on us. Being that only Tony [Kakko, vocalist] and Tommy [Portimo, drummer]played on the original one, we thought that it would be a fun thing to do, to give these great songs another run. We’re definitely not trying to re-write history: the original ECLIPTICA is the starting point of this band and a very special album with a certain feel of innocence and enthusiasm which cannot be recreated as such since we’re not teenagers anymore. Having said that, this new version is more of a tribute and an update on how these songs sound when played by our current line-up. We wanted to stay true to the original album as much as possible and not turn this into some weird re-arranged project where you couldn’t tell which song was being played. So here it is, the 15th Anniversary version ofECLIPTICA. Hope you enjoy it. We certainly had a good time digging into these songs and laying down the tracks.”
Hard rock’s original supergroup, Mr. Big, are back with a vengeance with their new album …The Stories We Could Tell. The band’s eighth studio album is slated for release on September 23rd via Frontiers Music SRL. The original lineup comprised of Eric Martin on vocals, Paul Gilbert on guitar, Billy Sheehan on bass and Pat Torpey on drums, returns with some of their strongest material to date. The new album is the follow-up to the 2011 release What If, an album that marked the band’s return to their signature hard rock sound.
Mr. Big got together this past June to begin recording and laid down the 13 new tracks in just a month.
“This new album rocks!” exclaims Paul Gilbert. “I love playing guitar, singing, and writing with Eric, Billy, and Pat. And after 25 years, I’m proud that we can make an album that is melodic, powerful, interesting, groovy, and emotional.”
“We wrote songs individually and collectively on this new record. To me this is the album that we’ve threatened to make decades ago. A classic, groovin’, blues-rock record with the spirit and spark of our Rock & Soul idols from the 70’s. Hells to the yeah it’s a Mr. Big album complete with all the trimmings,” says Eric Martin. “I think whether you’ve been with us from the beginning or just starting, you’re going to dig where we are coming from and where we’ve been.”
…Stories We Could Tell was produced by Pat Regan, known for his work with the likes of Deep Purple, Warrant and Keel. The album is currently available for pre-order via Amazon at http://geni.us/MrBigStoriesAMZ.

Mr. Big recently announced that drummer Pat Torpey has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. The diagnosis has left him unable to perform his normal drumming duties on the band’s upcoming World Tour. Mr. Big intends to announce a drummer in the near future who will handle most of MR BIG’s drumming duties on the Fall 2014 tour and expects Torpey to jump on the drums on suitable live songs as well as participating in the group’s acoustic set.
Mr. Big formed in 1988 and immediately began to solidify their place in music history. By combining trademark “shredding” musicianship with awesome vocal harmonies, Mr. Big produced numerous hit songs that ranged across a wide array of rock genres – be it ballads, heavy metal, or blues rock. Their hits included “Alive and Kicking,” “Just Take My Heart” and the chart-topping ballad “To Be With You” (Billboard Hot 100 number one single in 15 countries for weeks, in 1991, propelling the band the band to huge international success and multi-platinum record sales). Mr. Big continues to be a touring force with sold-out shows around the globe and with more dates to be announced in the near future.
Tony Harnell’s return to TNT after seven year absence was one of last year’s biggest news in the world of hard rock. The reunion was officially announced in last October and the tour, “Intuition 25’Th Anniversary tour”, started from Norway in January of 2014. The tour reached Finland on July when the band played its first ever show in in Helsinki. Then I had a pleasure to meet always friendly Tony and discuss about various topics including the reunion, new TNT album, Anniversary DVD and the state of Tony’s solo career. Read on!
Finland-based symphonic metal sextet NIGHTWISH have just released the third “Making Of” trailer for their as-yet-untitled eighth studio album, which will be the first to feature new Dutchvocalist Floor Jansen, who has toured with the band since October 2012.
“For me, [new music] always starts with the emotional surge and subject matter,“ states band founder, keyboardist, and songwriter Tuomas Holopainen. “When I come up with a subject for the song, I always see it as a short movie. Each song is like a soundtrack for that movie in my head. That’s how the songs are born.“
Returning to the U.S. in support of their sixth studio album Blood Mantra (due out in North America on September 30th), Polish technical death metallers DECAPITATED are direct support to Earth’s only openly extraterrestrial rock bandGWAR on the first leg of the “GWAR Eternal Tour 2014,” launching on October 15th in Norfolk, Virginia and ending in Seattle on November 12th. Opening will be Texan trio American Sharks.
Seattle’s metal legends, SANCTUARY, have premiered the first single from their upcoming album, The Year The Sun Died.
Due out October 6 in Europe and October 14 in North America via Century Media Records, The Year The Sun Died is the long-awaited follow-up to SANCTUARY’s first two studio albums that were released on Epic Records: Refuge Denied (1987) and Into the Mirror Black (1989). Singer Warrel Dane’s sky-high vocals combined with guitarist Lenny Rutledge’s more mature take on classic thrash riffs separated the band from the throes of metal acts struggling to get noticed at the time. With The Year The Sun Died, SANCTUARY continues that legacy that they started decades ago, delivering yet another fresh take on “classic-sounding” metal. Featuring artwork by Travis Smith (OPETH, NEVERMORE) and mixed/produced by Zeuss (ROB ZOMBIE, SUICIDE SILENCE, CROWBAR, etc.), this upcoming album promises to be worth the wait.
