Arch Enemy - WAR ETERNAL

Arch Enemy – WAR ETERNAL

Extreme metal icons ARCH ENEMY will unleash their 9th studio album, War Eternal, worldwide via Century Media Records (Trooper Entertainment in Japan) on June 9th in Europe and June 10th in North America. The artwork for the album was created by Costin Chioreanu (http://twilight13media.com/), who previously worked with Michael Amott on SPIRITUAL BEGGARS’ re-issue of their self-titled debut.

Chief song-writer, guitarist and band leader Michael Amott comments: “I was looking for a hand-drawn feel with a unique atmosphere, something that would complement the music that we’ve been working so hard on these last couple of years. In the end my choice fell upon Romanian artist Chioreanu Costin, who’s work I’ve admired for some time. Costin really grasped my vision for the artwork and layout, he’s delivered some of the coolest artwork elements we’ve ever had with ARCH ENEMY!”

ARCH ENEMY’s upcoming album, War Eternal, was recorded in various studios during winter 2013/2014 and produced by the band themselves with Jens Bogren (OPETH, PARADISE LOST, KREATOR) mixing and mastering the album at Fascination Street Studio. For a preview of War Eternal, be sure to check out the official video for the album’s title track, created by Patric Ullaeus: http://youtu.be/InRMwptcgAo

ACE FREHLEY Announces Album title And Street Date

March 27th, 2014
by Celtic Bob

Ace Frehley Press001

2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee  ACE FREHLEY will release SPACE INVADER, his first new solo album in five years, via Entertainment One Music (eOne Music) on June 24th, 2014. The album will include at least nine brand new original songs as well as a cover of Steve Miller’s “The Joker.”  This album is the first release under Frehley’s new universal deal on eOne Music.

Frehley has released an official statement surrounding the exciting news:

“Life on Earth has been very good to me, and the body of work I’ve created over the years has withstood the test of time.  Today I see no obstacles before me and my creativity has never been more fine tuned. Growing up in an Alien world has enhanced my senses and allowed me to succeed where others would have failed. The best is yet to come!”

Widely known as the original “Space Ace” and founding guitarist for 16 cumulative years (over 2 tenures) of the multi platinum selling rock band KISS, Frehley is demonstrably the most popular original member.  In addition to having the best selling solo album career (vintage or current) among the original foursome, Frehley’s self titled Ace Frehley, released in 1978, went on to sell over one million copies, producing the only Top 40 single, “New York Groove,” from any of the legendary KISS solo albums; (peaking at #13).   The massive hit was most recently featured in an episode of cult show “Entourage” and was also KISS’ second bestselling download in 2012, besting such KISS Army anthems as “I Was Made For Lovin’ You,” “Beth” and “Calling Dr. Love” even after 36 years.

Since departing from KISS, Frehley went on to release four more solo albums and one live EP including his most recent effort, Anomaly in 2009, which debuted at #27 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and received a welcoming response among critics. “’Anomaly’ shows why many rock and metal guitarists list ‘Space Ace’ as a prime six-string influence,” said Rolling Stone.

ACE FREHLEY will participate in the 2014 REVOLVER GOLDEN GODS AWARDS show by presenting the Dimebag Darrell “Best Guitarist” Award alongside label-mate Zakk Wylde. The awards show will take place on April 23, 2014 at the CLUB NOKIA Theater in Los Angeles. Tickets are on sale now!

Frehley adds comment.

“It’s exciting to finally be part of the Golden Gods, awards and an honor to be part of any Dimebag memorial award.  He was a friend, and I know everyone misses him, as do I.”

Steel Panther has been joined on stage by rock and roll icons such as Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, Paul Stanley of KISS, Corey Taylor of Slipknot, Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine/Audioslave, Chester Bennington of Linkin Park and Green Day to name a few.  Steel Panther has also been seen on Dancing With The Stars, Bad Girl’s Club and most recently in a national web campaign for Warner Brothers Pictures hit film, Rock Of Ages.

Overkill

Overkill

Next time London decide they want to bulldoze one of our beloved music venues perhaps they could invite the wrecking crew, aka Overkill, along. At least then we’d be guaranteed one more good time before ‘progress’ steps in. Cause after more than 30 years Overkill know about good times, and crucially with them progress isn’t a frightening word. Because in Overkill’s case it doesn’t mean destroying the existing but keeping building on those foundations. Maybe it’s because they’re not British. Take note London.

Legendary thrash metal band EXODUS is pleased to announce their recent signing with Breaking Bands LLC and The Agency Group. Maria asked us to join forces and manage bands together. When she told us our first project would be EXODUS there we’re smiles from cheek to cheek,” adds Jon Zazula. “EXODUS has been ready to explode for years and the time has come. 2014 will be the year that EXODUS blasts off to an unstoppable assent like never before. HELLOWEEN – back home again; new contract with Nuclear Blast

March 25th, 2014
by EvilG
HELLOWEEN

HELLOWEEN

Germany’s HELLOWEEN have been one of the most influential and internationally most successful acts of the global Heavy Metal scene and this year the Hamburg-based quintet, founded in 1984, celebrates their 30th anniversary. Their latest studio album »Straight Out Of Hell«, charted at a sensational #4, their highest German chart entry to date, holding this position for five long weeks. Additionally they made anotherfive top ten entries in Europe and also cracked the US Billboard Charts.

Now HELLOWEEN return to their old label home Nuclear Blast, where they released two albums – »The Dark Ride« (2000) and »Rabbit Don’t Come Easy« (2003), both of which have just been re-issued with extended bonus material.

Nuclear Blast are overwhelmed to bring the band back into the fold: “We are more than proud, that HELLOWEEN is part of the Nuclear Blast family again,” Label owner Markus Staiger announces. “All those years we had a friendship-like connection and ways crossed on a regular basis at concerts and festivals. HELLOWEEN to us is a matter of the heart, there’s not only the two records to mention, but an act that influenced me and many of our employees. Together there are big plans and we are looking forward to having another productive and successful cooperation.”

The band itself are equally celebratory. Vocalist Andi Deris: “As a label, Nuclear Blast is “Heavy Metal to the bone”, and we are really looking forward to working together with a lot of familiar faces.”

HELLOWEEN are currently busy working on the successor to »Straight Out Of Hell«, that saw the founders of German Melodic Speed Metals playing a total of 84 shows in 34 different countries. After summer, the band will hit the MiSueno Studio on the isle of Tenerife with producer Charlie Bauerfeind (GOTTHARD, HAMMERFALL etc.) to record a new album set to be released in early 2015.

Metallica Stream ‘Ronnie Rising Medley’ Dio Tribute Song

March 25th, 2014
by EvilG

dio2Metallica had a bit of a hard time deciding which Ronnie James Dio track to cover for late icon’s “This Is Your Life” tribute album, resulting in the decision to compile “Ronnie Rising Medley,” a 9-minute jam of Dio’s four all-time classics.

Combining “Tarot Woman,” “Kill the King,” “Stargazer,” and “A Light in the Black” songs under the Metallica banner, the song is available for streaming in full. Make sure to give it a listen below, courtesy of Rolling Stone.

As for the album, “This Is Your Life” is scheduled for April 1 release via Rhino Records, featuring Dio covers by such class acts as Judas Priest, Motorhead, Anthrax, Slipknot and more. Pre-orders are available via iTunes here.

“Ronnie’s music, and what he was, was part of my life,” drummer Lars Ulrich said. [Dio’s] music is so much a part of what’s in Metallica’s DNA, the harder, edgier, blues-based hard rock from the Seventies. It was fairly effortless to put this together, because it’s something that we were all reared on.

“I don’t recall sitting there in a band meeting or anything deciding what to play. Somebody starts playing ‘Stargazer’ – which is sort of just like something that’s in our arsenal to jam – and then that whole period there, ‘Tarot Woman,’ ‘Kill the King,’ ‘A Light in the Black’ – that’s just really effortless to jump into,” Lars added.

Noting that putting together cover jams is something that Metallica loves working on, the drummer concluded, “You just try and do your own thing, respectfully, in the shadow of these legends,” the drummer says. “It becomes more of an homage and respect thing rather than trying to copy the song – it’s not even about outdoing them.”

Bass player Pasi Kauppinen –  Silent Voices

Interviewed by: Anders Sandvall

Thanks to Emil Westerdahl at Inner Wound Recordings for  setting up the interview, and to Inner Wound Recordings for the promo pictures of the band.

SilentVoices_pic_2_promo_2014

From Finland comes Silent Voices, a band that plays excellent melodic metal and who released their fourth album REVEAL THE CHANGE at the end of last year. I really loved the album and when I realized that Henrik Klingenberg (Sonata Arctica) also was a part of this band I decided to check them out. I got in touch with Pasi Kauppinen (also a member of Sonata Arctica) and we had a long talk about the new album, the influences and the many guest appearances the band has featured. A few of the guests are Mats Levén, Mike Vescera and Mike DiMeo. Of course came Sonata Arctica up in the conversation…enjoy! Read the rest of this entry »

Ex-Anthrax Guitarist Dan Spitz and wife file for divorce

March 24th, 2014
by EvilG

danspitz1As reported by GossipExtra.

Anthrax guitarist Dan Spitz and his socialite wife are filing for divorce — three months to the day after his arrest at his Lake Worth in a domestic violence incident.

The charges stemming from the Christmas eve fight were eventually dropped, but wife Candi says she and the heavy metal axman are calling it quits after nine years and the birth of twin boys.

“Life is too short,” she said, “no matter how much you might love someone, it may not be the right thing.”

Candi, 38, has just become a manager at the local chapter of Alzheimer’s Association, and says the split has been amicable so far.

“Obviously, the Christmas incident shows this was a long time coming,” she said. “I hope we can co-parent effectively.”

The frontman of GWAR Oderus Urungus aka Dave Brockie passes away

March 24th, 2014
by Arto Lehtinen

The frontman Oderus Urungus aka Dave Brockie has reportedly been found dead. Oderus Urungus died at the age of 50. The management of Gwar will be making an official statement regarding the passing of Oderus Urungus aka Dave Brockie later today.

Gwar

“I wish it was a joke,” says former band member Chris Bopst, a music writer for Style. “Everyone is in shock.”

“Dave was one of the funniest, smartest, most creative and energetic persons I’ve known,” former Gwar bassist Mike Bishop says. “He was brash sometimes, always crass, irreverent, he was hilarious in every way. But he was also deeply intelligent and interested in life, history, politics and art.”

“His penchant for scatological humors belied a lucid wit. He was a criminally underrated lyricist and hard rock vocalist, one of the best, ever! A great front man, a great painter, writer, he was also a hell of a bass guitarist. I loved him. He was capable of great empathy and had a real sense of justice.”

Crowbar

Crowbar

When your band’s called Crowbar, The Garage seems like quite an apt venue. It could also work for the likes of Tool, Nine Inch Nails… Hammerfall… and a mechanic/handyman line that’s dying on its ass. Unlike tonight’s gig. See arrive at doors and the place looks dead with tickets still changing hands; give it an hour or two and there’s barely room to swing a crowbar without caving someone’s head in. Which might be the only way you’ll get to the bar.
