TESTAMENT’s Eric Peterson Joins Forces with Celtic Goddess LEAH on New Track “Dreamland”

Leah Featuring Eric Peterson

New ‘Otherworld’ EP Available via iTunes, Amazon and More!

Testament/Dragonlord‘s Eric Peterson has just entered a new realm, combining brutal death vocals and dramatic singing with Celtic-metal vocalist/composer LEAH on her new track ‘Dreamland’. The track is cut from LEAH’s new EP Otherworld. The EP is available now via iTunes, Spotify, Amazon MP3, Google Play, Rdio and several other digital retailers. Take a listen to ‘Dreamland’ now at LEAH’s official Bandcamp page.

The cinematic character vocals from Eric Peterson on ‘Dreamland’, a beautiful, symphonic progressive track with a fantasy twist, leave the listener electrified in his wake with “…an echo’s breath, a romance death!”

“It was a real treat to have Eric’s unique vocals on this track,” states LEAH. “My original demo went from having a mellow, Clannad-type feel to now almost dancing on the line of black-metal. I hope this is the first of many collaborations to come!”

“I’ve known LEAH for about 12 years, we’ve been friends since 2001. I jammed with her about eight years ago in Vancouver, and at the time it didn’t work out because I was busy with Testament and Dragonlord, but we stayed in contact,” adds Eric Peterson. “This time around, LEAH contacted me to play on her new record and I thought she wanted me to play guitar. But when she told me she wanted me to sing, I was honored because LEAH is the kind of person that will sing right in the middle of a store and sound amazing, she’s that kind of vocalist. She sent me the song and right away I knew exactly what I needed to do. She took my pattern, wrote some lyrics for me, we went into the studio and it was done! It was the easiest thing I’ve ever done. It’s really great to finally be able to work together with LEAH and put out this great track. I can hear this song in a movie! A couple of people I’ve let hear thought it was the soundtrack to the new Snow White movie! Ha!” Read the rest of this entry »

VARGA RETURN WITH PROG-METAL TOUR DE FORCE, ‘ENTER THE METAL’

November 5th, 2013
by EvilG
VARGA - Enter The Metal

VARGA – Enter The Metal

TORONTO – Hamilton, Ontario based progressive metal band, VARGA, has just unleashed their 3rd full-length studio recording, ‘Enter the Metal,’ via the band’s own label, Vargantuan Music. Currently available digitally on iTunes and Amazon.com – http://Amazon.com, there are several formats of hi-resolution downloads available for purchase from the band’s own vargahq.comhttp://vargahq.com website. CD’s will begin shipping and in stores November 14th, but can be pre ordered from vargahq.comhttp://vargahq.com until then.

Comprised of members Joe Varga (bass & vocals), Adam Alex (guitar), Sean Williamson (guitar), and Dan Fila (drums), the veteran band (originally formed in 1989) has built a large and loyal following of heavy metal fans, particular in their home country, on the strength of such popular releases as 1994′s ‘Prototype’ (released via the Zoo label), which spawned the hits “Freeze Don’t Move” and “Greed,” earning the band a thumbs up on the then-popular ‘Beavis and Butthead’ program on MTV. After over a decade apart, Varga reunited in 2011, and issued their awesome reunion effort, ‘Enter the Metal’ (their first new studio album in 17 years).

The album was produced by long time friend and producer/engineer, Julius “Juice” Butty (Alexisonfire, Protest the Hero), and recorded at both Six Nations’ Jukasa Studio, and Butty’s own Silo Studios. As the band’s leader, Joe Varga, states, “In this collection of music, you’ll hear a return to our metal and progressive roots with songs laden with heavy licks, crazy time changes and insane vocals.”

As heard throughout ‘Enter the Metal,’ the long delay between releases has not dulled Varga’s penchant for penning inspired and challenging heavy metal in the slightest. Welcome back, lads!

Chaos Synopsis: Music video for “Son of Light” is released

November 5th, 2013
by EvilG

Since the preparation of the album ‘Art of Killing’, CHAOS SYNOPSIS plunged deep into research on serial killers around the world. The result was an album full of peculiarities with the background and modus operandi of every murderer, with lyrics containing phrases in the native language of the killer in question.

The album was highly praised by the media and the public in Brazil and one of the highlighted songs was “Son of Light”, which tells about ‘Febrônio Índio do Brasil’, one of the most “distinguished” Brazilian serial killers.

The song earned a video clip that can be viewed here: http://youtu.be/_vRYIV_P5co

‘Art Of Killing’ is available for sale directly with CHAOS SYNOPSIS.

Skid Row

Can bands that reached the heady heights of rock and metal fame in the Eighties and Nineties still be relevant today? More importantly, can they still kick ass? That’s the question hanging in the air at the Limelight prior to Ugly Kid Joe and Skid Row’s co-headlining gig tonight. Read the rest of this entry »

The symphonic/goth metal act Tears Of Martyr recently released their second album TALES. I got interested of the band when I heard TALES because the album is excellent. I hooked up with singer Berenice Musa in order to get to know the band and their history. The band comes from the Canary Island but lives now in Madrid so it was obvious that I had to find out what the Spanish metal scene are up to. Read the rest of this entry »

Blood & Iron – Ashish Shetty (Guitars, Bass)

Blood & Iron – Ashish Shetty (Guitars, Bass)

Interviewed by Aaron Yurkiewicz

Ashish Shetty - Guitars, Bass

Ashish Shetty – Guitars, Bass

When presented with a moniker like Blood & Iron, there’s a certain degree of implied comfort that comes along with it – you know you’re probably gonna get some epic metal. And some epic metal ye will receive on Blood & Iron’s recently released VOICES OF ETERNITY. Some quick history for the uninformed – based out of Bangalore, India, Blood & Iron trace their origins back to 2005 and started releasing music independently shortly thereafter. Bred on a steady diet of classic metal, VOICES OF ETERNITY is actually the band’s third album, took 2 years to make, and features 7 contributing artists spread across 3 countries. That, dear readers, is what you called commitment to your craft. Summoning the inspiration in the most traditional of veins, Blood & Iron straddle the line between classic Maiden/Priest sensibilities, with the complexity and nuance of early Savatage/Queensryche, but strictly the pre-90’s material from said bands. It’s not always a perfect execution, but it’s pretty friggin’ respectable effort.

We pick up the story with guitarist/bassist Ashish Shetty.
