Visionary Swedish metallers SOILWORK have released another song off their upcoming special collection of rarities, entitled Death Resonance, out August 19, 2016 via Nuclear Blast. You can now watch the official visualizer for “These Absent Eyes” here: https://youtu.be/ydGQYp6QCHs
The song was originally released on the Japan-only EP Beyond The Infinite which featured more songs from the recordings sessions for the band’s globally praised double album The Living Infinite.
Commented singer Björn “Speed” Strid: “Beyond The Infinite consists of some special, quite experimental songs. They might have been cut out from the original album but have a unique charm to them. It wasn’t easy to pick the final track list for The Living Infinite. It was never obvious which songs wouldn’t make it. The writing and recording was highly experimental and playful in general, and it was through this album that we rediscovered ourselves as songwriters, with a new and improved line-up which brought – and will bring – so many interesting things to the table. Originally only released in Japan, it is with great pleasure that we finally share those special songs with you all. Enjoy!”
Watch the lyric video for “Helsinki”, created by well-known videographer Tommy Antonini (facebook.com/tommyantoninivideography), at this location: https://youtu.be/g5VGQueLuqM
Commented guitar player David Andersson: “Death. It’s a word that might be used too often, but it can still be interpreted in a myriad different ways. It’s not just the soma being deprived of its lifeforce; it’s also the end of infinity, the birth of new possibilities and the acceptance of inevitable change. This song was written soon after the recording of our live album in Finland, making new friends and making sure that the old ones stay with us forever, despite the fact that everything is finite.”
Death Resonance tracklisting:

02. Death Resonance (new song)
03. The End Begins Below The Surface (The Ride Majestic Japan bonus track)

14. Wherever Thorns May Grow (2016 mix, Stabbing The Drama Japan bonus track)
15. Killed By Ignition (2016 mix, Stabbing The Drama Japan bonus track)
Commented singer Björn “Speed” Strid: “The cover for Death Resonance is made by Mircea Eftemie and in many ways he managed to capture what we went through while recording The Ride Majestic: the sorrow, the close encounter with death, the aftermath and also the existential cogitation that came with it. It links those albums together, even though Death Resonance contains unreleased material from 2005 and forward. The cover almost seems like a link between life and death and not only captures where the band is right now, but also where we’ve been and what lies ahead.”

Frontiers Music srl is excited to announce the release of “Resurrection”, the new album from Operation: Mindcrime, the brainchild of legendary vocalist Geoff Tate. The album is set for a worldwide release on September 23, 2016.
“Resurrection” is the second part of the musical trilogy from iconic metal vocalist Geoff Tate. Following one year after the release of the debut album in September 2015, Operation: Mindcrime continues in the spirit of the historic album of the same name, spawning concepts as grand as the music, and intertwining the intensity of the former Queensryche vocalist’s iconic past with the provocative, progressive mindset that has made him one of music’s most resolute forces and frontmen.
“The Album “Resurrection” is the second part of our three album presentation or trilogy. It continues the story that began on the first album “The Key” with the near death experience of the lead character known as “H” and his subsequent recovery of the missing encryption key. With the Key finally in his possession, “H” has everything he needs to finally launch his long awaited project called “The New Reality”. Or does he…,”explains Geoff Tate.
Tate continued, “I’m excited for people to hear and experience “Resurrection” because I think it answers some of the questions that were posed in the first album, “The Key”. Musically, it offers some of the most diverse and challenging material that I’ve ever written.”
Geoff Tate has sold more than 25 million records at the helm of Queensryche, the band he fronted for 30 years from their inception through 2012, earning three Grammy nominations, five MTV Music Video Award nomimations, and one MTV Music Video Award along the way. The landmark concept album Operation: Mindcrime thrust Tate’s unique social consciousness, style and expertly crafted lyrics into the national spotlight in 1988, and was followed by Empire in 1990, the album that delivered Queensryche to arena-headlining status and sold more than three million albums on the back of hit singles and radio staples “Silent Lucidity” and “Jet City Woman.” By the time the band released Promised Land in 1994, Geoff Tate was universally acknowledged as one of the greatest frontmen in rock and metal, and a driving force behind one of the most innovative bands in mainstream music. From Mindcrime and Promised Land through 2009’s overlooked gem American Soldier – Tate’s ambitious concept album that explores the consequences of war as told through the voices of veterans – Tate’s 13-album tenure with Queensryche was marked by exploration, intrigue, bold risks and gratifying results.

The video for “Curious Volume” was produced by David Hall (Uneasysleeper.com), known for his work with The Melvins, Pig Destroyer, Phillip H. Anselmo and the Illegals, Venom, Brutal Truth, Ken Mode and more, with the live footage shot on tour March – April 2016 by Jerry Moore, Chris Navarro, Joe Shuerger and Dan Lively.
Pentagram frontman Bobby Liebling said of the video: “We wanted our first ever video to, in-a-way, be a connection to the past as well as the present. The song can be interpreted as a personal and collective journey that we’ve been on for close to half a decade. It’s a trip that’s both physical and mental and I feel that Dave’s end result illustrates that for us and everyone. The video stands as both an escape and an introduction to us as artists and people. You can feel the rigors and rewards of tour life through the visuals. We love the stardust and psychedelics as well as the raw rock-n-roll energy felt throughout the song and video alike. We hope you connect with it like we do.”
Featuring 11 classic heavy metal compositions with catchy hooks from core band members Victor Griffin, Greg Turley, and Bobby Liebling (Pete Campbell on the drums completes the band’s line-up), Curious Volume was recorded with Swedish producer Mattias Nilsson at studios located in Maryland and Virginia. Additional recording took place in Tennessee with Grammy-nominated producer Travis Wyrick, who also produced Pentagram’s previous album, Last Rites. The album’s cover artwork was provided courtesy of Richard Schouten.
Curious Volume released in August 2015 on Peaceville Records.

Canadian progressive/power folklore metallers SCYTHIA recently released their newest full-length offering, Lineage. You can order your digital or physical copy of Lineage now via the band’s Bandcamp page. These minstrels of metal are back today with a play-through video of the album’s title track, “Lineage”, which you can view now exclusively via Gear Gods: http://geargods.net/playthrough/scythia-shred-tastic-new-guitar-playthrough-for-lineage/
SCYTHIA guitarist and vocalist Dave Khan states, “We’re stoked to have our playthrough of “Lineage” up with Gear Gods! We use some really unusual gear. I play a custom-made Warrior Black Knight with X2N active pick-ups into an ENGL raider 1 x 12, and AJ plays a Ibanez RG premium through a Blackstar HT Stage 100.”
Although the band primarily self-produced the album, Lineage features engineering from Nino Laurenne (Firewind, Finntroll, Wintersun, Ensiferum) and Lasse Lammert (Alestorm, Gloryhammer, Powerwolf), and mastering from Svante Forsback (Rammstein, Volbeat, Firewind, Apocalyptica). Nino Laurenne is also responsible for mixing duties on the album. Lineage was recorded at LSD Studios in Lubeck, Germany and Sonic Pump Studios in Helsinki, Finland.
SCYTHIA are gearing up to perform at two more events this summer before heading out on a tour this fall (details coming soon). See below for all currently confirmed performance dates.
SCYTHIA Canadian Tour Dates:
Aug 19 – Edmonton, AB @ DV8
Aug 25-28 – Valemount, BC – Metalocalypstick Festival
SCYTHIA have been playing progressive power metal with a twist of folklore since 2008. The band has coined their own sound while drawing influences from different genres such as celtic/gypsy folk music, power metal, death metal and progressive rock. SCYTHIA’s albums and performances feature rich, poetic storytelling and grand tales that vividly captures the imagination of their listeners. Because of this, they have taken the independent scene by storm as they gather more and more fans both domestically and internationally. Scythia acquired its name from vocalist/guitarist Dave Khan’s infatuation with ancient Slavic imagery and melodies inspired from Balkan music. The name is fitting for a grandiose sound as SCYTHIA is also an ancient empire spanning from the Caucasus through Russia, and even into eastern Scandinavia.
SCYTHIA delivered their first album Of War in 2010, which was quickly followed by their next release Of Exile in 2011. The latter scored SCYTHIA a nomination at Canada’s Sirius XM Indies Independent Music Awards in the Best Metal Group/Duo category, amongst the likes of Bison B.C., Derelict, Devin Townsend Project and Mares Of Thrace. In February 2014, the band released their most recognized release to date, …Of Conquest. The Canadian quartet’s lead single and music video, entitled”Bear Claw Tavern”, was first featured via GuitarWorld.com and instantly hit the web like wildfire. The video – described as a truly uproarious three-minute scorcher featuring SCYTHIA rocking out in a medieval tavern filled with hooligans and mysterious characters – garnered over 50,000 views in less than a few days, inciting io9 to dub it “20 times better than The Hobbit”.
…Of Conquest positioned the band with an opportunity to co-headline a major festival in Brazil and other festivals in the southeast US the following year. With the same production team behind their upcoming offering Lineage, SCYTHIA is poised to make 2016 their breakout year.
Stryper frontman Michael Sweet returns with his most intense solo release to date. One Sided Waris Michael’s 7th studio solo album and is slated for release on August 26th via Rat Pak Records. Michael’s solo band is comprised of Whitesnake guitarist Joel Hoekstra, Evanescence drummer Will Hunt, bassist John O’Boyle and East Coast shred-master Ethan Brosh. The new album showcases a full plate of hard rock & classic metal riffs that Michael Sweet has come to be known for throughout his illustrious musical career. The album is available for pre-order at: http://ratpakrecordsamerica.com/michaelsweet.
“Musically it’s my heaviest solo album. It’s not thrash metal but there are definitely some songs on there that will pop out at you. There are some songs that have a bit of the Iron Maiden / Dio feel to them, as well as some songs that have a little bit of a Van Halen influence to them. It’s a very guitar-oriented, hard rock/metal album with lots of melodies and hooks,” explains Michael Sweet.
The fast and furious opener “Bizarre” ignites the album’s pace with its lightning fast riffage, soaring vocals and blazing guitar solos. Tracks like “Can’t Take This Life”, “One Sided War”, “Golden Age”, “I Am” and “Comfort Zone” keep the metal fires ablaze, while tracks like “Radio”, “One Way” and “You Make Me Wanna” bring the hard rock vibe to the forefront. One Sided War features only one ballad, “Who Am I?”, a heartfelt, passionate song that reminds us of the softer side of Michael’s talents. Closing out the disc is a bonus track; it’s a different version of the song “Can’t Take This Life”, a duet with Michael and 16 year old up-and-coming female vocalist Moriah Formica. An EPK that talks about the CD and contains samples of “Bizarre” and “Radio” can be seen at: https://youtu.be/xl5PgzbZy-8. The CD was tracked at Spirithouse Recording Studios in Northampton, Massachusetts.
The Track listing for One Sided War is:
2) One Sided War
3) Can’t Take This Life
5) Golden Age
6) Only You
7) I Am
8) Who Am I
9) You Make Me Wanna
10) Comfort Zone
11) One Way Up
12) Can’t Take This Life (*bonus track* featuring Moriah Formica)
Sweet is best known as the singer, guitarist, songwriter and producer for Christian rock pioneers Stryper, selling over 10 million albums worldwide. In addition to Stryper, Sweet has had a successful solo career, and he served as the guitarist and co-vocalist for the legendary classic rock band BOSTON from 2007-2011. The future remains bright for a man who has endured heartbreaking tribulations throughout his life and career, including the 2009 passing of his wife of more than 22 years, Kyle. In 2010, Sweet remarried to Lisa Champagne-Sweet, a woman he describes as “a Godsend and the one who fits perfectly by my side.” Sweet continues to record and tour with Stryper, as well as touring and recording as a solo artist.
