Punishing 16th-note kicks at rapid-fire tempos, unbelievable runs across his rack toms, insanely twisted patterns, and awe-inspiring phrases:
Dave Lombardo is deemed one of the most influential drummers of our time.
Born with extraordinary musical aptitude, Lombardo was intuitive to rhythm at a very early age. His musical awareness has continued to transcend the repetitive formula of Metal throughout his formidable career.
His mentors include an eclectic array of percussion icons, such as: Ginger Baker, Bill Ward, Tito Puente, Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, Mongo Santamaria and John Bonham.
Lombardo is most widely known as an aggressive and exceptionally skilled heavy metal drummer, but over time he has proven that his unique gift far surpasses the confines of being labelled.
Dave’s style has been called “astonishingly innovative,” “strikingly fast,” and “unmistakably powerful.” He has earned the title “The Godfather of Double Bass.” Lombardo’s unmatched combination of technical flair and outright speed has made him the yardstick against which all subsequent metal drummers are fated to be measured.
As an original and founding member of Slayer, Lombardo has performed with Slayer on seven albums, including their ground-breaking 1986 release Reign in Blood and their 2006 release Christ Illusion, for which he received critical praise. Dave’s musical career has spanned more than 30 years, during which he has been involved in the production of 30 commercial recordings spanning a number of major genres with bands such as Fantômas, Grip Inc, Testament, John Zorn and PHILM, in addition to Slayer. Lombardo’s most recent endeavours have found him in a variety of compelling adventures. From recording the drum tracks for Californication (Season 7) alongside the incomparable Tyler Bates, to lending his talent to the soundtrack of Insideous: Chapter 3 at the side of captivating yet sinister composer Joseph Bishara, to performing amidst a 75-piece orchestra by request of the esteemed composer, Christopher Young, to writing a score for a soon to be released Disney pilot.
Lombardo is out to shatter all preconceptions of what it is that he has to offer the world.
Join Dave as he discusses his incomparable musical career and Rhythm Mysterium Art Collection.

On October 2nd, 2015 Deadline/Cleopatra Records will release worldwide the first-ever Greatest Hits package from Northern Japan’s own Saber Tiger.
Sapporo, Japan’s Saber Tiger was formed in 1981 by guitarist Akihito Kinoshita. After releasing three albums through an independent record label, Kinoshita eventually signed a major label contract withTokuma Japan Communications. Saber Tiger’s 1997 major label debut album, Project One, thrust the band to the front of the flourishing Japanese metal scene. The album featured several famous guest musicians; vocalist Ron Keel (ex-Steeler and Keel), bassist Naoto Shibata (Anthem), and drummer Hirotsugu Honma (ex-Ezo and Loudness).
Saber Tiger then went on to record and release three hit albums (as well as a few others) while officially reformed with Takenori Shimoyama on vocals, Tomohiro Sanpei on bass, and Yoshio Isoda on drums.
Working together they produced two more albums, Paragraph 3 and Brain Drain. In 2001, Saber Tiger made their first release under their new major label VAP, naming the album simply Saber Tiger. With VAP they continued on to release F.U.S.E., The History of the New World -凶獣伝説- and the single “Eternal Loop”. Paragraph 3 and The History of the New World -凶獣伝説- were re-recorded compilations of the bands signature songs, with the new line-up and a heavier, more driven sound. They also released a live album named Live 2002 Nostalgia, on both CD and DVD.
In 2002, due to different musical ideas and goals, Shimoyama left the band to pursue his own ambitions in the heavy metal music scene. He formed the band Double Dealer, with Norifumi Shima. They signed a European-wide record contract with NTS/Limb Music, traveling through Europe on a tour with Symphony X.
After Shimoyama’s departure, Saber Tiger continued to write and record new music, producing the album Indignation in 2005, with vocalist Katsuto Suzuki.
In 2010, Saber Tiger announced the reunion with former members Takenori Shimoyama (vocals), Yasuharu “Machine” Tanaka (guitar) and Tomohiro Sampei (bass), and with Yasuhiro Mizuno as their new drummer. Eventually Takanobu Kimoto (ex-Double Dealer and Concerto Moon) replaced Sampei on bass. They began working on a new album at a studio in their hometown of Sapporo. The album Decisive was released on August 3, 2011, and was followed by a tour. On May 26, 2013, they performed at the Pure Rock Japan Live 2013 at Club Citta, alongside NoGoD, Galneryus and Onmyo-Za.
In 2015, a mutual friend of the band introduced them to Cleopatra Records VP/General Manager Tim Yasui, who was seeking to add more Japanese hard rock, punk and metal bands to the label’s Deadline Records imprint. In honor of Saber Tiger’s 35th Anniversary, a deal was struck to create the band’s first-ever “Greatest Hits” package, culling tracks from 3 of the band’s best albums: Messiah Complex (2012), Decisive (2011) and Paragraph IV (2011).
Current Saber Tiger frontman Takenori Shimoyama quotes, “We’re so glad to be able to finally have a U.S. record deal and hope that the sounds of SABER TIGER reverberate across the land! We’re very glad to be able to conduct activities in the US and we hope to make the sounds.”
Earlier this year, Kamelot released their new album “Haven” which got a 5/5 point from yours truly. Usually I am very conservative, therefore when I hear that a band is changing its members, I get mad because 90% of the time it will be shit. It wasn’t the same with Kamelot. “Silverthorn” with Karevik was a good album, but “Haven” is a masterpiece. When I heard that the guys are making a stop on their tour to Denmark, I had to go and see if Tommy is as good live, as his predecessor.
I got to the venue, Viften, pretty early.
Kobra & The Lotus and Gus G. were the warm-up. Not a fan of either, but the drummer from Kobra was insane, it was like he had 4 feet.
Regarding Gus G., I was eager to see what is all the fuss about – he plays with Ozzy, therefore he is a legend. Meh… he is a good guitarist, that’s it. Pretty dull moment if you ask me.
22.00 and Kamelot took over the stage with “Veil of Elysium” my personal favorite from their latest album. The audience went wild, Karevik had them in the palm of his hands the entire time, and he is an amazing performer and entertainer. I even dare to say that he sounds better live than on CD. One thing I would say needs improvements, he looks too humble and modest – which by no means is a bad thing – but looking like a God on stage, adds to the overall performance.
“When the Lights are Down” still remains the band’s biggest hits to date, executed with elegance and an overload of energy that I have not seen the band before – and let me assure you, I’ve seen them plenty of times in the Roy Khan era. You can feel the energy coming from them, and because I already sound like a groupie, what’s one more praise to young Tommy – if I every had doubts about Roy leaving, they are all gone and buried by now.
“Liar, liar” features Arch Enemy’s Alissa White-Gluz which I hoped to see on stage, unfortunately it did not happen but Kamelot invited Linnea Vikström on stage. For those who don’t know her, he is a non-official member of Therion, quite a reasonable figure, although I like her growl better than her clear voice (weird, i know).
The band delivered songs from the latest release “Haven” and “Silverthorn”, where Tommy has been the lead singer, but they did however performed some blasts from the past. A song that I missed and would have been a great ending to a marvelous night was “Ghost Opera”, maybe next time.
QUEENSRYCHE’s highly anticipated new, full-length offering, Condition Hüman, was released on Oct 2nd via Century Media Records. Condition Hüman, sees LaTorre deliver the performance of a lifetime on what is now his sophomore recording effort with the band. Produced by Zeuss (Rob Zombie, Hatebreed) in the band’s native Washington, Condition Hüman is a new mountain towering over many of the peaks and valleys of the hard rock landscape.

At the end of July it was once again time for the third annual edition of the Vasby Rock Festival. The festival is located inside the town of Vasby, Sweden, a suburb to the capitol Stockholm, at a soccer field. Bands like Astral Doors, Vasby Rock Allstars, Tygers Of Pan Tang, Eclipse, H.E.A.T,, Danger Danger, Michael Schenker’s Temple of Rock and W.A.S.P. performed. It was the first time I visited the festival and this is what happened during the two days of rock, fun, and sun. Read more….

See below for full details about each release.
RATT ‘INVASION OF YOUR PRIVACY’ CANDY281
THERE’S NO DOUBT that the mid eighties were pretty much ruled by an exciting clique of Los Angeles based hard rock bands. Everyone from Mötley Crüe, Great White, Dokken and Quiet Riot were breaking records in one way or another, but it was five piece RATT who really condensed all that was truly exciting about the scene when their debut album ‘Out Of The Cellar’ exploded at MTV, radio and retail, giving them a double platinum album and a reputation second to none.
The impressive ‘Invasion Of Your Privacy’, produced by Beau Hill, who masterminded their previous record, found the band further exploiting their penchant for snappy melodies and super catchy hooks.
‘Tracks such as ‘You’re In Love’,‘Lay It Down’ and ‘What You Give Is What You Get’ became instant RATT classics bouncing out of the grooves and right into the public’s heart. It was this album that truly elevated RATT to arena headline status in the US, whilst helping to spread the message further afield in Europe and Japan. A solid gold classic.
Special Deluxe Collector’s Edition, fully remastered Audio,16 page full colour booklet, 3,500 word essay, enhanced artwork, rare photos and new interviews.
TRACK LISTING: 1. YOU’RE IN LOVE 2. NEVER USE LOVE 3. LAY IT DOWN 4. GIVE IT ALL 5. CLOSER TO MY HEART 6. BETWEEN THE EYES 7. WHAT YOU GIVE IS WHAT YOU GET 8. GOT ME ON THE LINE 9. YOU SHOULD KNOW BY NOW 10. DANGEROUS BUT WORTH THE RISK
RATT ‘REACH FOR THE SKY’ CANDY282
RATT’S RISE TO fame and fortune was meteoric. Kicking around Southern California in various forms since the mid 70s, the band fully gelled in 1981, with the independent release of a well received debut mini album, which quickly led to a coveted recording contract with label giant Atlantic Records. Their debut album ‘Out Of The Cellar’ exploded out of the box ultimately reaching sales in excess of double platinum.
‘REACH FOR THE SKY’, originally released in late 1988 and produced in the main by Mike Stone (Journey, Queen and Whitesnake), found RATT in familiar musical territory, a style based on big hooks, shout-it-out-loud vocals and razor sharp riffs. It was the sound of the times alright, and although performing well (attaining Platinum status) the band were feeling the strain of their work load. In fact it was the final album to feature guitarist Robbin Crosby who would leave due to much publicised personal problems.
Special Deluxe Collector’s Edition, fully remastered Audio,16 page full colour booklet, 3,500 word essay, enhanced artwork, rare photos and new interviews.
TRACK LISTING: 1. CITY TO CITY 2. I WANT A WOMAN 3. WAY COOL JR. 4. DON’T BITE THE HAND THAT FEEDS 5. I WANT TO LOVE YOU TONIGHT 6. CHAIN REACTION 7. NO SURPRISE 8. BOTTOM LINE 9. WHAT’S IT GONNA BE 10. WHAT I’M AFTER
CONEY HATCH ‘FRICTION’ CANDY272
TORONTO BASED Coney Hatch were one of Canada’s brightest hopes during the mid eighties. They impressed fans and critics alike with their rambunctious brand of melodic hard rock, a sound imbued with a certain, some might say typically Canadian, quirkiness.
‘Friction’ was the band’s third and, as it turned out, their final album. It was a record designed to infiltrate the mass market, with catchy hooks and a selection of punishing riffs. Issued in 1985 and crafted by renowned British producer Max Norman (Ozzy Osbourne, Y&T, Lynch Mob) the record was received with great critical enthusiasm, but hit a brick wall at their record company. With Def Leppard and Bon Jovi receiving major promotional pushes, Coney Hatch were sidelined and left, without the financial budget, to fight their own corner.
It was a crushing disappointment, leaving the band in a state of confusion and, ultimately, unable to carry on. Their legacy, however, continues to grow, with many citing ‘Friction’ as their finest and, possibly, one of the best albums released that year. Revisit the likes of ‘This Ain’t Love’, ‘Fantasy’ and ‘Burning Love’ for proof positive that this record delivered on all fronts.
SPECIAL DELUXE COLLECTOR’S EDITION, FULLY REMASTERED SOUND, 1 BONUS TRACK, 16 PAGE FULL COLOUR BOOKLET, NEW INTERVIEWS, 3,500 WORD ESSAY, ENHANCED ARTWORK AND RARE PHOTOS.
TRACK LISTING: 1. THIS AIN’T LOVE 2. SHE’S GONE 3. WRONG SIDE OF TOWN 4. GIRL FROM LAST NIGHT’S DREAM 5. COMING TO GET YOU 6. FANTASY 7. HE’S A CHAMPION 8. STATE LINE 9. BURNING LOVE. BONUS TRACK: 10. FUEL FOR THE FIRE

In 2013, three of rock music’s preeminent musicians—Richie Kotzen, Mike Portnoy and Billy Sheehan—joined forces to release their self-titled, self-produced debut album. Two years later, the trio known as THE WINERY DOGS is back with their second album, proving the immense critical acclaim, Top Ten chart positions and numerous sold-out shows worldwide wasn’t a fluke.
HOT STREAK is THE WINERY DOGS’ appropriately titled, self-produced studio album, which came out today on Loud & Proud Records via RED (a division of Sony Music Entertainment) and in the rest of the world via earMUSIC. It was preceded by the first single, “Oblivion,” which was released to radio August 25 and quickly made its way onto the Top 30 of the Billboard “Mainstream Rock Tracks” chart. A double vinyl edition of the new album is also in the works and is due out November 13.
As of October 1, HOT STREAK was sitting at #7 on iTunes’ Pre-Order Rock Albums chart, as well as many of Amazon’s top pre-order lists, including:

Last week, Eddie Trunk—who was instrumental in introducing Kotzen to Portnoy and Sheehan in 2012 when the band was first forming—premiered two songs, “Captain Love” and “Hot Streak,” on his weekly “Trunk Nation with Eddie Trunk” SiriusXM radio show. “THE WINERY DOGS have taken the incredible precedent for songs and performance set on their debut to the next level with HOT STREAK,” Trunk says. “More brilliant stuff from what is easily my favorite new band.”
Various interview video clips with THE WINERY DOGS have premiered recently on Revolvermag.com, GuitarPlayer.com, GuitarWorld.com, ModernDrummer.com, DrumMagazine.com, and HuffingtonPost.com.
After playing over 100 shows worldwide in support of their self-titled debut album, THE WINERY DOGS are eager to head back out on the road to get behind HOT STREAK. Their first round of U.S. headlining tour dates will kick off October 3 in Ridgefield, CT at the Ridgefield Playhouse. Shows around the globe are already being planned for 2016.
HOT STREAK shows the powerfully pedigreed trio’s initial burst of collective chemistry was no accident, from the strum and headbang of “Captain Love” to the propulsive uplifting vibe of “The Bridge” to the introspective acoustic harmonic convergence of “Fire.” If these three Dogs thought they captured lightning in a supper dish the first time around, HOT STREAK barks ups the aural ante into exciting new territory.
Here’s what the critics are already saying:
“Back with their second release HOT STREAK, supergroup THE WINERY DOGS are ready to prove that their initial success wasn’t a fluke. Featuring guitarist/singer Ritchie Kotzen, drummer Mike Portnoy and bassist Billy Sheehan, the lineup is impeccable. Building on the strength of the songwriting on their debut, they step it up and showcase their amazing musicianship.”
–Dan Drago, HeavyMetal.About.com,

“HOT STREAK is the trio’s second album, and its loose, friendly feel shows that the trio doesn’t feel compelled to rely on instrumental pyrotechnics. The bluesy, soulful ‘Think it Over’ would appeal to those who admire the Allman Brothers, while ‘Captain Love’ shows that the band also has some hard rock energy to unleash, and the title track lets fly some of the technical proficiency that its members are known for.”
–Chris Steffen, AllMusic.com,
September 29, 2015
“With the uncertainty of how their debut release would win over fans, THE WINERY DOGS have settled nicely into their role as one of rock’s newest bands saving the genre.”
–Jim Pasinski, Record-Journal (CT),
September 27, 2015
“HOT STREAK picks up where their debut CD left off, but showcases the band coming into their own with straight ahead rockers like ‘Oblivion,’ ‘Captain Love,’ and ‘Devil You Know.”

Commented ProgPower USA Co-Promoter Milton Mendonca “There is a fundamental difference between bands who want to play ProgPower USA and bands who want to become a part of the festival. LORD has shown us that they understand how special our event is and are committed to it for the long run. The fact that they play top-notch power metal and will get our crowd on fire from the first note doesn’t hurt either. We’re thrilled to have them open the festival next year.”
Andy Dowling wrote, “We’re absolutely honoured to be invited to play one of the world’s most prestigious power and progressive metal festivals. PROGPOWER is a global name and we cannot think of a better way to make our debut in the US after so many years. Our U.S. DUNGEON and LORD fans have been very patient and we’ll make sure that the wait is worth it!”
LORD, formerly known as DUNGEON, has released several critically acclaimed albums and EP releases, and has toured with the likes of SAXON, QUEENSRYCHE, ICED EARTH, NIGHTWISH, GAMMA RAY and many more. The release celebrated 25 years of the band and was limited to 500 copies worldwide.
The band’s current EP release ‘WHAT TOMORROW BRINGS‘ featues a 25+ minute title track plus accompanied unreleased tracks including 4 cover songs by THE POLICE, A-HA, LITTLE RIVER BAND and HELLOWEEN.
