The Nosturi club was totally packed on Saturday night. Before At The Gates’ riffmaelstrom hit the stage the domestic grind core mongers Rotten Sound conquered the stage to warm-up the audience. The four piece’s 30 minute set of intensive grinding was the pure pleasure of the sonic torment from the beginning to the end without any mercy. Rotten Sound’s frontman’s comments could be found a bit of humouristic and amusing. But he has always got the good way of expressing himself with the good sense of humor. Rotten Sound is always extreme, brutal uncompromising live act, no doubt about that. The audience could have been more brutal though.
The more and more people was arriving before the opening intro roared out. Finally the place is totally packed, quite close to sold-out. That was a good sign as some metal gigs have suffered from the low attendances and it has been written and spoken the metal is in the crisis in Finland.
The masters of the old school Gothenburg death metal proved to be in the vicious strike already on the first opening riff of “Death And The Labyrinth”. The frontman Tompa’s unique screaming vocals is a pure trademark of the sounds for At The Gates. The lethal catchy riffs by the guitar duet; Anders Björler and Martin Larsson, worked and sounded utter tight and above all razor sharp. Jonas Bjorler hit the bass with the raging passion As stated a bit earlier Tompa’s sound being unique, but it has that tight and unique dry approach. He hasn’t lost any inch instead during these years. Instead he encouraged the audience go utter beserk. At The Gates’s older material from the 90’s is still as relevant as the present days. It still sounds refreshing new and brilliant. Those songs haven’t aged at all. As for the newer material off the AT WAR WITH REALITY album fitting along with the older material more than perfectly. Of course the older songs like Suicide Nation, Kingdom Gone etc caused the energetic ballistic reactions amongst the audience. In general the the near 90 minute set included a surprising lot of tunes picked up from the classical SLAUGHTER OF THE SOULS album. Of course the songs from the other albums played the tight important role in the setlist. To be honest At The Gates still has its own grip, as the five piece still kicked and whipped. It was awesome to witness the legendary outfit in the club atmosphere, giving more intimate feeling. Hopefully ATG will arrive to do club tours. If ATG will be around your corner, go check them out.

The guy beside me is meerkating. Bouncing up on the tips of his toes, straining his neck, bending this way and that, clutching his phone. Looking for his friends. I can understand. A good gig with good friends is something very lovely indeed. But I want to tell him it doesn’t matter, if only to stop him from keep invading my eye line. Also he’s missing all the songs. The band are just a few feet away and the music is really flying – if you can’t just enjoy that then there’s something a bit wrong. After all we’re all friends here tonight.
And now a girl bursts into tears. Jesus. Let’s assume it’s because of the music, although that would imply levels of hysteria beyond anything expected. Volbeat have never felt big enough to cause such emotion. Not in the UK. Back home, sure, platinum all the way, Europe and the US are on board, but here they’ve always seemed to struggle to impact. People say they like them, but rarely do you meet someone foaming at the mouth, raging about just how good they are. And yet tonight they’ve sold out the show, sold out the impressive Roundhouse no less.
It’s not for us to speculate how or why, but when Hatebreed roll on stage and you can only loosely use the term “full” to describe the place, well it suggests something. It suggests the coins have been coughed up for Volbeat. It suggests the tide is turning.

NWOBHM legends Raven were back out on the road this fall trekking all across the U.S. in what has to be one of their most comprehensive, if not all encompassing tours in years. The British metal stalwarts now celebrating forty years of history as a metal band are on the cusp of releasing “ExtermiNation” their thirteenth full-length album due this coming February via a collaboration between the band’s current record label SPV and a Kickstarter crowd funded campaign by their die-hard fanbase. We caught up with bassist/vocalist John Gallagher shortly before the band took the stage in Austin, Texas in early October. John previewed some of the new Raven material for us and it sounded loud, lethal and assaulting. John fills us in on the upcoming album “ExtermiNation” as well as “Party Killers”an exclusive covers album for Kickstarter contributors, the band’s recent run-ins with Metallica and more…
The Gwar Eternal Tour is just that, the continuation of GWAR and a demonstration that they can keep the story and music going – perhaps for the “next thousand years”. Gwar is soldiering on after their bandleader and vocalist Dave Brockie, who played Oderus Urungus, sadly passed away after an accidental heroin overdose in March 2014. With Oderus missing from their ranks the scumdogs have joined forces with two new members, Blóthar and Vulvatron, who mysteriously appeared on stage one day through a time travelling device. On this tour Gwar is searching for their missing leader through North American cities and through time. American Sharks from Austin, Texas have been the opening act for the entire tour. Poland’s Decapitated acted as support for the first half of the tour and then were replaced by Corrosion of Conformity for the second half. On November 16, 2014 the tour rolled into Calgary, Alta., to slaughter the masses at MacEwan Hall.
Death metal legends OBITUARY released their Relapse debut Inked In Blood, this past October via Relapse Records. In conjunction with the album’s release OBITUARY have teamed up with ESP Guitars and Ultimate Guitar for a special guitar solo contest. Visit Ultimate-Guitar.com HERE and find out how to record your own unique solo on the new song “Violence”. OBITUARY will personally judge each entry awarding one grand prize and 2 runners up.
Tomorrow OBITUARY has scheduled a Reddit “AMA” at 4:00 PM Central Time. Brothers John and Don Tardy will be online to answer any question you may have about OBITUARY, their new album, tour and their three-decade long legacy of Death Metal trailblazing. The AMA will take place at http://www.reddit.com/r/Music/
Inked In Blood stands out as one of the finest moments in OBITUARY’s already godlike discography. The album cracked the Billboard Top 100 coming in at #75. This is OBITUARY’s highest chart number to date and sold almost 5 times as many copies of their 2009 release “Darkest Day”. Inked in Blood also came in at #8 on the Top Hard Music Chart and #15 on the Top Current Rock Chart. Internationally Inked in Blood came in at #56 in Germany (2nd Highest Chart Entrance in Band History), #81 in The Netherlands, #139 in Belgium, #174 in the UK and #65 in Switzerland.
Inked in Blood is available for now from Relapse Records HERE and via iTunes HERE. The album is available as CD/Deluxe CD/2xLP/Digital/Deluxe Digital. Inked in Blood is available for streaming in its entirety via bandcamp and Sound Cloud.
In support of their new album the band will be touring extensively through North America and Europe throughout 2014 and 2015. The band’s North American run with Death (DTA) is going on right now through December 7th in Miami, FL. Then the band heads to Europe for a two week headlining tour in January. A complete list of dates is available below.
OBITUARY are giving fans the opportunity to “Ink Themselves in Blood” with an interactive web page where fans can upload their own head to the gruesome torso from the Inked in Blood cover art. Check out the unique experience HERE.

New Album Raise a Little Hell Set For Release in March 2015!
On Tour in the UK March 2015 plus December 2014 shows!
Northern Irish Rockers THE ANSWER are pleased to announce that they have re-signed with Napalm Records. The band released their last album New Horizon in September 2013 to critical acclaim and has just finished work on their new follow up record entitled Raise a Little Hell. The album will be released on March 6th (GSA/Benelux), March 9th (UK and Europe) and March 10th in North America.
Hot on the heels of the new album announcement, THE ANSWER are set to perform a couple of UK festival shows this winter at which they will be featuring new material from the forthcoming album. In March 2015 they will hit the road again on a comprehensive UK headline tour which will be followed by a soon to be announced European run of shows. A complete list of UK dates can be found below.
Lead vocalist Cormac Neeson commented, “We’re delighted to be extending our relationship with the Napalm family and look forward to great times ahead! During summer 2014 we hightailed ourselves down to Madrid to record our new album with long time friend and producer, Will Maya. Our time in Spain represents one of the most productive and enjoyable chapters in The Answer’s colourful history. Our new album ‘Raise A Little Hell’ comes from deep down inside. We brought the blues, the swagger and soul back into the studio and emerged from it with an album that encapsulates our unabated love for making the music we make. We’re all incredibly proud and thrilled with this record!”
Keeping the beacon of rock music well and truly alight, THE ANSWER have consistently delivered commercial and critically acclaimed albums. They have toured the world extensively, proving themselves to be an incendiary live act – spending almost two years as main support to AC/DC and playing to over 2 million people, performing festivals across the globe and also supporting the likes of The Rolling Stones, Whitesnake and Wolfmother as well as countless headline tours.
“Every now and then a band emerges that walk, talk and rock like true saviours of rock music’s spirit and soul. The Answer make the kind of life-affirming, eardrum-threatening music that separates the truly great from the merely adequate” (Dom Lawson – Metal Hammer)
