REDEMPTION’s sixth album, ‘The Art of Loss’, has been completed and will be released early in 2016 by Metal Blade Records. Featuring groundbreaking guest performances from a number of legendary musicians, the CD’s nine tracks contain over 70 minutes of REDEMPTION’s unique blend of passion, melody, aggression and complexity.
Los Angeles-based REDEMPTION is helmed by Nick van Dyk (guitars, keyboards), and includes renowned prog vocalist Ray Alder (Fates Warning, Engine), bassist Sean Andrews, and drummer Chris Quirarte, as well as guitarist Bernie Versailles, who is presently on an indefinite medical leave of absence from the band.
The band recruited several of the finest guitarists in metal to complement van Dyk’s playing. “We’re fortunate to have worked with a number of amazing musicians,” begins van Dyk. “To start with, I’m extremely proud to announce that Chris Poland has lent his immense talent as a special guest on this record, contributing his unique playing on the majority of the songs and elevating our music into extremely interesting territory while calling to mind his work in his previous bands, who need not be named. Additionally, we are fortunate enough to have mind-blowing guest performances from Marty Friedman, Chris Broderick and Simone Mularoni, all of whom are amazing guitarists who add so much to this record.”

No mercy: INFERNAL WAR will perform in “Armageddon Descends IV”
Each “Armageddon Descends” presented at least one band that strikes with uncompromising brutality and sadistic energy. The fourth cycle of the festival will be coronated by Polish INFERNAL WAR!
INFERNAL WAR are one of the most barbaric bands of the modern metal scene that play mercilessly fast, forward-marching black metal blended with deadly overtones. The synthesis of nihilistic poetry entrenched in human scorn and the bestial sounds of INFERNAL WAR result in a devastating effect. Moreover, the band has been numerously praised for their solid and impeccable live performances that one will be able to witness during fourth “Armageddon Descends”. The band recently released their new album “Axiom” (2015) through “Agonia Records” which will be presented with full force live in Vilnius, March, 2016.

House of Culture, Helsinki FINLAND
REVIEW AND PHOTOS BY MARKO SYRJÄLÄ
W.A.S.P. received their first gold album from Finland (LAST COMMAND, 1985), and since then their popularity has remained stable here. The band are regular visitors to Finland, and have played here annually over the last ten years. W.A.S.P. released their fifteenth studio album, GOLGOTHA, just a few days ago, and now the band is on a four gig tour in Finland. Maybe four gigs, at this time, is too much because House of Culture was not sold out. There were an estimated 600-700 people, which is only about half of the venue’s capacity.
Hardcore Superstar teams up with Michael Monroe for a Co Headlining tour around Europe this fall. The band also release their new single “The Cemetery” today along with a brand new music video for “Touch the Sky” feat. Etzia that was filmed at Götaplatsen in Gothenburg late this summer. The last time Overkill was in Calgary was about a decade ago in a small bar. It was the first time the New Jersey thrashers had ever been to Calgary. I had the pleasure of having dinner with a couple of the guys in the band and while happy to be in town they said, realistically they would not come back. The Western Canadian leg is too small and too far to play to small crowds. They wanted to play cities they had never been to before, at least once, but they doubted they would ever come back. Well, as the Overkill songs says, ‘Never Say Never’, as they returned as part of a co-headlining gig with Nuclear Blast label-mates and fellow New Jersey-ites, Symphony X. The last time Symphony X played in Calgary they played in a bigger venue as support to Iced Earth. So it is very likely that Symphony X was perhaps disappointed they played a smaller hall (Capacity: 1000), half the size as last time, and it is possible that Overkill were much happier playing a much bigger venue – four times as big! It’s all about perception.
The opening act of the night were WITCHES; a French death metal band from Antibes. Witches, formed in 1986 are first French band with female guttural voice. They have been touring with bands like SIX FEET UNDER and EMTOMBER and were a perfect act to open for this old Skool extreme metal night.
There is no doubt that Alice Cooper is one of the biggest and most legendary rock stars of our time. The man’s career has lasted more than four decades and there is no end in sight. Originally, Alice Cooper was a band that consisted of Cooper, bassist Dennis Dunaway, Neal Smith, drummer and guitarists Michael Bruce and Glen Buxton (RIP). In 1975, before the release of WELCOME TO MY NIGHTMARE, he scattered the band and continued as a solo artist with the same name. To this day he still follows this path. There have been a large number of fine musicians who have played in the band Alice Cooper. Names such as Reb Beach, Eric Singer, Kip Winger, Al Pitrelli, and Jimmy Degrasso, are all well-known world-class artists who have either created the early career of the Alice Cooper band or have played there at some point. Today, the Alice Cooper band consists of a drummer Glen Sobel, bassist Chuck Garric, and a trio of guitarists – Ryan Roxie, Tommy Henriksen, and Nita Strauss (she joined Alice’s band a year ago). I met a good-humored Strauss and Garrick after the gig in Helsinki in June and here is a summary of what was recorded on tape … Read on!
