KXM Release Video for “Breakout” from the Upcoming Album Scatterbrain

February 4th, 2017
by Celtic Bob

Coming on the heels of the video for the debut single “Scatterbrain,” KXM has released a video for another song from the upcoming sophomore album.
The video for “Breakout” premiered on the band’s Facebook page and can be seen here: https://youtu.be/E7NEoECwbeI. The video, directed by previous KXM director Jamie Brown, is a barrage of visuals of the band that captures the high-energy feel of the song. The song comes from the album Scatterbrain that is scheduled for worldwide release on March 17th via Rat Pak Records. Fans who pre-order the album digitally via iTunes (http://smarturl.it/kxmsbitunes) will receive both “Breakout” and the first single “Scatterbrain” as an instant download. The album is also available via Amazon (http://smarturl.it/kxmsbamazon).

Scatterbrain is currently available for pre-order via the Rat Pak Records website in various bundles including signed CD’s and t-shirts. All fans who pre-order the album through the Rat Pak website will be entered to win a one-of-a-kind custom guitar as well as other prizes. The pre-order is available at RatPakRecords.com/KXM. The video for the debut single “Scatterbrain” can be seen here: https://youtu.be/UvTnzne69Ts and has become a fan favorite since it was released. KXM is comprised of dUg Pinnick of King’s X on vocals/bass, George Lynch of Lynch Mob/Dokken on guitars and Ray Luzier, of Korn on drums. Scatterbrain features 13 brand new tracks and was recorded at the Steakhouse studio in North Hollywood California. The album was produced by Chris “The Wizard” Collier (Flotsam & Jetsam/Prong/Last In Line) who also produced the band’s 2014 debut.

KXM formed in early 2013 when dUg, George and Ray spoke about trying to jam together. At the time it wasn’t clear what would come from those jams. The only thing that was clear was that these 3 musicians, at the top of their game, wanted to play together. The self-titled debut, KXM, was released on March 11, 2014 and debuted at #31 on the Billboard 200. The band takes its name from the combination of the member’s other projects: K from Korn, X from King’s X and M from Lynch Mob. In a world that constantly searches for new and unique music, KXM delivers all the power and punch that one would expect from these high level players.

MAYHEM with INQUISITION

The Gothic Theater – Denver, CO
January 27th, 2017

Words and pictures by Kyle Moore, the Metal Magnus

Nothing on, above, or below this earth was going to keep me away from the Gothic Theater last week, where MAYHEM, the most notorious primogenitors of Norwegian black metal, came to perform. For those unfamiliar with the band’s long, bloody, awful history, I won’t recount much of it here: it’s readily found online or in full-length books. The short version is: original vocalist kills himself, guitarist is murdered by bassist, who burned down several ancient churches in the 90’s. All of this occurred before the band could release their first full-length album DE MYSTERIIS DOM SATHANAS. To this day, it is considered to be one of the most influential black metal albums ever recorded. But first..

ANTHRAX TO RELEASE LIMITED EDITION “FOR ALL KINGS 7-INCH BOX SET”

January 31st, 2017
by EvilG
Anthrax - "FOR ALL KINGS 7-INCH BOX SET"

Anthrax – “FOR ALL KINGS 7-INCH BOX SET”

Available exclusively in North America and released in conjunction with the band’s upcoming Spring co-headline tour with Killswitch Engage – “KillThrax” – thrash metal icon ANTHRAX – Frank Bello/bass, Scott Ian/guitar, Joey Belladonna/vocals, Charlie Benante/drums, Jonathan Donais/guitar – announces the release of the limited edition “For All Kings 7-Inch Box Set” (Megaforce Records).  The set goes on sale March 24, will retail for $79.99, and is an absolutely stunning collector’s item for any Anthrax fan as this unboxing video illustrates.

The “For All Kings 7-Inch Box Set” includes a removable lenticular cover and contains 10 7-inch vinyl discs featuring 20 songs – the 11 finished album tracks, two brand new covers (The White Stripes’ “Black Math” and the classic Kansas song “Carry On”), six demos from the FAK track listing, and “Vice of the People,” a bonus track previously released only in Japan and now making its North American vinyl debut.  The original album cover art sketch by Alex Ross is also part of this package, as well as a download card enabling the holder to access the Box Set’s tracklisting for free.

Each 7-inch disc features gorgeous, double-sided four-color artwork designed by Douglas Heusser with additional art by Stephen Thompson, as well as band photos by Jimmy Hubbard.  The tracks are pressed onto different-colored vinyl discs – red, green, blue, maroon, orange, most with a two-color swirl design.

“Doing a box set edition of ‘For All Kings’ was something that we’ve always wanted to do,” said Benante, who worked closely with Heusser and Thompson on the box set’s artwork.  “We wanted to do something special, something that was so much more than the original release, and have it be fun for our audience when they open it up, just be floored by the different colored vinyl, the artwork, everything that’s inside.  And we think we’ve done that.”

Bloodgod reveals details of upcoming EP ‘Catharsis’; Second studio release from Dutch metal band to be released on March 15, 2017

January 31st, 2017
by EvilG

Dutch death metal moloch Bloodgod, featuring (former) members of Disquiet, Hymir and Nuestros Derechos, have revealed details of their upcoming release. Titled ‘Catharsis’, the band’s second EP will see the foul light of day on March 15, 2017.

Five brand new tracks were recorded and mixed at Mass Audio Studio in the Netherlands, and mastered by Grammy nominated engineer Jacob Hansen (Aborted, Mercenary, Volbeat, Pestilence, etc) in Denmark.

The artwork, created by Lisa Röttjers, depicts ‘t Schrickelik Tempeest’, meaning ‘the horrible tempest’ in old Dutch. It refers to the song with the same title and lyrics about the violent storm of August 1, 1674 that hit the episcopal cathedral in the band’s hometown and turned it into ruins.

Watch the sneak peek video of the EP’s opening track, Valar Morghulis, on YouTube: http://bit.ly/pr3v13w.

Following the release of their debut EP ‘Pseudologia Phantastica’ (2013), Bloodgod shared the stage with Can of Worms, Cryptopsy, Skeletal Remains, and Terrorizer among others, and played several festivals including Big Ass Metal Fest, Angelfest Doetinchem and Frisian Brotherhood Fest.

SYRE’s Second Album, ‘Pissed To The Gills’ Reissued On CD By Demon Doll Records With New Artwork

January 30th, 2017
by Celtic Bob

Syre was formed and came out kicking and screaming in 1986. With members from Toronto, London and Kitchener they brought their unique brand of glam to the Canadian scene and through non-stop touring 50 weeks a year, built a strong live following of dedicated supporters. They began touring in the U.S and garnered a deal there to compliment their 1989 Canadian A&M Records deal by signing with Chicago based Red Light/Warner Bros. Syre also began to get some interest in Europe and Japan and leveraged on that to land deals with Intercore Records (Europe) and Sony (Japan). Syre toured coast to coast in to the mid 90’s leaving a swath of ringing ears and empty liquor stores, their livers retired in 88! Over the years they’ve had the pleasure of supporting many great acts including Helix, Nitro, Brighton Rock, Goddo, Blackfoot, Molly Hatchet, The Sweet and many more! What a ride! Syre continues to do selective dates and still enjoys a cold beer and a bright stage….if you see them around be sure to join the party.

ANVIL

January 15th, 2017
Deerfoot Inn And Casino

Review by JP
Photography by Jeff  “Y3J” Baratelli

The first concert of the year is usually a fun one. The last show I saw in 2016 was Dec 17th so it had been a month so I was ready to rock!

Anvil was playing at a familiar venue the Deerfoot Inn and Casino, a great place for a show, good sound and a mix of seats and standing room with a capacity of 666 or so. I think the ‘official capacity’ is 600 but since it is Anvil…

John Bush of Armored Saint – Carpe Noctum is Giving Fans our Best Live Performances

Interviewed by Robert Cavuoto

Armored Saint by Stephanie Cabral

Armored Saint, photo by Stephanie Cabral

Armored Saint has been delivering their heavy metal mastery around the globe, joining the likes of Saxon, Metal Church – and even Queensryche in November/December 2016 – on the road. In order to capture Armored Saint’s powerful live show the band recorded their 2015 Wacken Festival set as well as their headlining show in Aschaffenburg, Germany. The original intent was to only offer it to the Pledge Music Campaign but after hearing it and feeling the raw energy the band decided to make it a proper release and let everyone have it.

I caught up with John Bush; full time rocker, husband and father to talk about the history behind this release and what lies ahead for the band.

Singer and leader Heidi Parviainen – Dark Sarah

Interviewed by: Anders Sandvall

Thanks to Emil Westerdahl at Inner Wound Recordings for setting up the interview. Thanks to Inner Wound Recordings for the promo pictures of the band.

Heidi Parviainen (ex-Amberian Dawn) and Dark Sarah are back to attack with the brand new album THE PUZZLE. The album is jammed with some excellent cinematic/symphonic metal and is the continuation where the last album BEHIND THE BLACK VEIL left off. The album contains vocals from some new acquaintances as well as from Manuela Kraller who participated on the debut album BEHIND THE BLACK VEIL. What Heidi has been up to since the last time we spoke, the pledge campaign, the cover art by Jan Yrlund, and if it was hard to write the follow up and the future of the band were the things we talked about. We also talked about why Finland doesn’t like female metal….read more about what Heidi has to say down below.
