The Unicorn appears to be the right place to be on a Sunday night with several Black Metal bands playing for free at the renowned North London venue. Once inside, several members from the various bands began sound checking in preparation for tonight’s show.

Exquisite Ending [4/5] kick-start tonight’s show with an all out assault of dissonant guitars and venomous shrieks. The crowd take to these guys instantly as their bleak sounding wall of noise runs its course with each song proving to be a formidable display of modern Black Metal.

Even though these guys were first on the bill, they put on an impressive display of musicianship with plenty of raw energy to match.

The band also come with the addition of a TV screen, playing an array of haunting images throughout their ghastly set.

After catching Vehement [3/5] once before and being blown away by their previous set at the Black Heart, they are a welcome addition to tonight’s bill. Right from the outset, the quartet barge onward with a grim sounding array of Black Metal sensibilities.

What becomes quickly apparent is the band’s sound musicianship and solid song writing abilities, as the relentless drumming and charging guitars remain present throughout their impressive set.

Offering up no room for respite, their tracks mould together seamlessly into one cohesive whole. Vocally, everything remains top notch as the band deliver their violent breed of Black Metal to their fans.

Personal highlight, ‘Far Below Us’ opens with dense sounding guitars and steady drums and a strong sense of foreboding. In no time the band rupture into a sonic driven assault that see’s fans head banging along in approval. The vocals erupt again, wading Vehement further down into the depths of their abysmal world.

Necrosadistic Goat Torture [4/5], take to the stage and burst out with the brutality of ’The Day the Gods Die’; a song that comes ram packed with infectious guitar riffs, blast beats and infernal vocals that remain consistent throughout.

Wasting no time, ‘Raven’s Call’ follows up with a further dose of destruction, as the band showcase their uncompromising prowess. The vocalist remains at the forefront and displays a deeper tonality in his angst driven narrative, which serves the band’s gritty nature.

Their set sounds formulaic at times, but Necrosadistic Goat Torture’s aggression remains intact with their distinctive sound. ‘Nemesis’ proves to their most solid offering. The bleak sounding riffs and impressive solos run high as onlookers continually cheering them on.
