WITCHES MARK

WITCHES MARK performed as a main-stage act at this year’s Ragnarökkr Metal Apocalypse in Chicago, Illinois on Saturday April, 5th. We took a train from the airport into the city and then caught a bus to get to our hotel. We caught up with metal legends RIOT V in the hotel lobby before heading to the venue. They were the festival’s headliner Friday night. They sounded incredible live with their new vocalist Todd Michael Hall (Jack Starr’s Burning Starr).

Saturday we took a forty minute drive to Homewood, Illinois for a quick rehearsal at an old friend’s studio before our performance at Ragnarökkr Metal Apocalypse later that evening. We arrived back at the venue with enough time to woof down some tacos and a Pabst Blue Ribbon or two before show time.

Chastain vocalist Leather Leone and Kevin “Riot Act” Beckrich of Sonic Asylum Radio emceed the festival and introduced us to the stage. Leather Leone looked great and received a warm welcome from the Chicago metal fans. Hopefully Chastain will return to perform at the Ragnarökkr festival in 2015.

We performed a five song set consisting of material from our latest album and invited our friend Jason Conde-Houston of Skelator on-stage for our last song of the evening to lend some guest vocals on the album’s title track”Witching Metal Ritual”

After our show we had some beers in the green room area of Reggie’s Live and snapped a pic with Steve Grimmett and Nick Bowcott of NWOBHM legends Grim Reaper. Grim Reaper performed an amazing headlining set Saturday night and the sold out crowd greeted them with thunderous applause.

All in all, it was great for us to perform in a new city and see a lot of old friends and make a lot of new ones. We’d like to thank Jeremy and Jamie Mobley at Heaven and Hell Records for giving us the opportunity to represent their label at the festival and thanks to Ragnarökkr promoters Odin & Thor for having us out.

– Robert Williams (Guitar/Harsh Vocals)
