Hamferð has since day one been fascinating and puzzling metal fans all over the world, with some calling them the Sigur Rós of metal, for a lack of better parallels. This bold, brave and unqiue Faroese doom metal band have indeed caused quite a stir on the international metal scene since their controversial Wacken Metal Battle victory in 2012… and they are only just getting started. Prepare yourself for the release of Hamferð’s debut album “Evst“ (“Highest” in English), out worldwide on 15. November 2013.
The band promises their fans 6 tracks of unparalleled doom metal with a desolate Faroese touch, that will tug and pull at the listener, telling a story of sadness and loss.
Evst will in spite of prominent label offers be released via the Faroese label TUTL Records. In line with the label choice, the album does not compromise with celebrating the band’s North Atlantic origins featuring guest performances from two of the most influential Faroese acts of the last decade. Namely singer Eivør, who is appearing on the track “Sinnisloysi”, and seismic audio arrangements by the band ORKA.
The album was recorded, engineered and mixed at Studio Bloch on The Faroe Islands by the band´s guitarist Theodor Kapnas. Mastering took place at the Swedish Fascination Street Studios and was done by Tony Lindgren (Paradise Lost, Kreator, Enslaved, Katatonia, Witchcraft, etc). The artwork was created by Faroese artist Jón Sonni Jensen, whose raw and mysterious style matches perfectly with Hamferð´s universe.

Since the band´s formation, Hamferð have been hailed as one of the most unique doom metal acts to emerge from Scandinavian soil. The band won the Wacken Metal Battle Final in 2012 but declined a Nuclear Blast contract due to their steadfast belief in their vision and wanting to pursue their own path. “Vilst er síðsta fet”, the band´s only release so far, has garnered raving reviews worldwide and has led to various festivals performances in Europe (including Iceland Airwaves and Eurosonic) and touring with Moonsorrow, Crimfall and fellow countrymen Týr on the Dead Tyrants tour in 2011. Known for their funerary performance on stage, attending a Hamferð show is as close as it gets to being at a funeral. Always forward thinking, earlier this year the band played a special and historical concert in the cathedral of Tórshavn, the capital of The Faroe Islands. A video of the track Vráin can be watched below.
