Death/thrash Metallers Devoid who won the Indian leg of the Wacken Metal Battle held in Bangalore earlier this month are set to represent the nation at the international leg of the contest in Germany. Wacken Metal Battle is a worldwide contest held by the promoters of Wacken Open Air and is currently in it’s seventh year. This also happens to be the band’s international debut. Vocalist Arun Iyer had this to say:

When I first got into a band playing an open air gig was the ultimate goal. Playing to a sizable audience under the sky was the biggest thing a band could do. Now we not only get to do that, we get to do that in Wacken. As an Indian band we are really looking forward to bringing our brand of metal to a crowd made up folks from countless nationalities and hopefully make our country proud. As a debut international gig I couldnt be more happy to play in the temple of metal, Wacken Open Air.

Devoid will be competing with over 30 bands from different nationalities.  This is the 24th year of Wacken and headlining acts include the likes of Motorhead, Lamb of God, Anthrax etc.

Devoid recently put out it’s sophomore EP titled The Invasion in 2013 and went on to be nominated in 6 categories in The Rolling Stone Metal Awards 2013. Check out the official video to ‘Brahma Weapon’ from the EP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJwMQzwF3do

More about Devoid

Formed in a decade when heavy metal was still in its infant stages in India, Devoid has grown to become veteran death/thrash metallers representing a genre which was long under represented in the country. The band’s lyrics can be best categorized as anti-establishment/anti-conformist.
