DAY TWO JUNE 6TH, 2013 – Monika Deviat
The second night of Calgary Metal Fest was held over two venues, Dicken’s Pub and Broken City. A shuttle service was provided between the two venues so that attendees could get over to the other venue quickly. This evening I made it over to the merch tables a few times to check out the giant CMF poster that all the bands were signing over the weekend.
The Armstrong Metalfest crew had a table set up to promote their event, happening July 19-20, 2013 in Armstrong B.C.
Junkie’s Rush kicked off the night with their snarling brand of metal and custom chain link mic stands on stage.
The Press Gang were on the punk side of the spectrum and played an engaging set.
Black Pestilence are always great showmen and musicians on stage. This evening the crowd enjoyed the unconventional mix of electronic samples and black metal.
Hammerdrone was absolutely intense, from the instrumentation to frontman Graham Harris’s towering presence and sneering expressions.
Dead Asylum from Vancouver B.C., planned a tour around this festival in order to make it out. The melodic death metal act tore up the stage and the crowd responded strongly.
Hardcore band Out of the Ruins, also from Vancouver gave the audience a powerful set combining some catchy melodies with the heavy music.
Terrorist metal band Villainizer closed off the evening and a lot of fans stayed out late to see them. The moment the band starts playing and frontman Rob the Arab Villain begins goading the audience, there’s non-stop mayhem from head banging and moshing in the pit.
