Lynyrd Skynyrd

Last Of A Dyin’ Breed

2012, Roadrunner Records

Rating: 4/5

Are Lynyrd Skynyrd relevant in 2012 or should they retire? From a musical standpoint they still release albums of original material and tour to support them. On the other hand it is technically just Gary Rossington left in the band and Ronnie’s younger brother Johnny VanZant on vocal’s. The remainder of the band is no longer with us. Whatever your thoughts this new album is a decent listen.

Very similar to their last couple of discs both musically and lyrically. This one however has a slight edge musically that is slightly more upbeat. It comes off less preachy in the lyrics department but their constant message of late is still there. These guys are true blooded Southern US folk and it isn’t hard to tell what they like or believe in.

Picking up this album you know what you’re in for. There are no surprises or anything that makes your jaw drop in amazement. It’s the same stuff they have been cranking out the past few years. No matter what they call it it is still Southern Rock which Skynyrd will always be synonymous with.
