The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars (40th Anniv.)

2012, EMI

Rating: 5/5

Bowie’s ZIGGY STARDUST is arguably his most famous release. This album has been released and re-issued countless times yet we still seem to fall for the marketing gimmicks and buy it again. So the real question is; Do we need the 4oth Anniversary Edition? The simple answer is yes.

I am a fan of Bowie’s music but not a die-hard or completist who needs every issue on every format and every unique pressing. As long as I have a nice sounding copy then I am a happy camper. With this said there are a few copies of this album in my collection and this is the better of them. While I haven’t done a side by side comparison I do not remember hearing it sound this good. The mix and clarity is crisp, clean and very well done. It is mastered properly and sounds better at high volumes, especially “Suffragette City”. Pure listening satisfaction.

If you need a copy of this iconic album in your collection then this is the one for you. As of now it will be my ‘Go To’ copy, although the new Vinyl version is getting high praise so I must obtain a copy of that in the future. For now this is worth a listen. Let your ears be the judge.
