NOCTIS V Interviews Part 3:
When did you first hear about Noctis Valkyries Festival?
I think it was two months ago or so.
What made you want to decide to come to this festival?
They made us an offer we couldn’t refuse, haha! Also, we’ve never played on the other side of the Atlantic before and this seemed to be the perfect start, also I’ve been waiting to go to Canada for a long time.
Which bands are you most excited to see at NV?
I’m not sure how much time we’ll have to see other bands, but I’m pretty sure I’ll get to see my old heroes VENOM and hopefully also MANILLA ROAD.
Are planning to attend or participate in the industry conference?
Hmmm… we’ll see.
Have you ever toured Canada before?
How has the move to Nuclear Blast been?
Excellent, one of the best decisions we’ve made.
How has the new album been received?
Who handled the cover art? It’s very striking.
His name is ARIK ROPER. He did the cover art for our album IRON WILL and he’s also done a lot of work for HIGH ON FIRE. He’s incredibly talented and fits our music.
How has Ludwigg been doing as the newest member?
He’s been doing great, like I knew he would. I’ve known Ludwig for over ten years and he was our first and only choice really.
Have you heard any comments good or bad about the bands gradual transition away from your doom roots?
Yes, of course. Mainly good reactions, but naturally there are those who wish we would have kept the so called doom style more orthodoxly (if that’s a word?). Anyway, those albums are still there to listen to. We just follow our hearts and instincts and who knows, maybe we’ll do some really super heavy slow stuff in the future.
After a decade of hard work do you feel the band has reached a new level of popularity and/or exposure?
Yes, definitely. We were never part of any hype or trend and it feels really good to have slowly built up a reputation based on integrity and quality.
Are you pleased with the recent reissues of some of your back catalogue?
I haven’t really had a chance to check them out yet, but it’s great that they’ve been re-released and getting some attention.
What part of your upcoming show in Calgary are you most anticipating?
The whole thing and I’ve also heard great things about the Canadian audience, so I’m looking forward to some true metal madness!
