Cornerstone

Somewhere In America

2011, Atom Records

Rating: 3/5

This female fronted Austrian 4-Piece formed back in the late 90’s. After a few singer and drummer changes and a couple of releases we get the current line-up and this 2011 full length disc of melodic rock music.

Cornerstone are a Rock band but some songs on SOMEWHERE IN AMERICA have Top 40 Pop written all over it. The ballad “Right Or Wrong” rivals anything the likes of Whitney Houston or Celine Dion ever released. It is similar in style to the early 80’s hit “Total Eclipse Of The Heart” by Bonnie Tyler. Vocalist Patricia Hillinger really nails it on the slower songs. She is equally as good on the rockers as well but something about her voice that suits those slow ballads.

A decent album with a few really strong songs. Looking forward to hearing the next release which should be a little more focused.
