August and Everything After – Live At Town Hall (Blu-Ray)
Released: 2011, Eagle Vision
WOW! This kind of came out of nowhere. I haven’t heard of the Counting Crows in years. Their debut and follow-up were great albums back in the day, even 2002’s HARD CANDY had it’s moments. After that they seemed to drop off the face of the earth. This release is refreshing to hear even though it was recorded in 2007. Too bad it wasn’t a more recent show.
This is a live concert performance of their debut album; AUGUST AND EVERYTHING AFTER in pristine video and audio. I am even tempted to say singer Adam Duritz sounds better here then on the studio album. The band plays the debut in the original running order in it’s entirety. This is great but it would have been much better if they had of included songs off the 3 discs that had followed it up until this point. They had some excellent songs on those albums that would have been a welcomed treat here. Maybe they did actually perform some. Who knows? Also the inclusion of a new song or 2 from the upcoming albums that Adam mentioned would have been a nice addition to the set as well.
Despite the lack of variety this is a very good release that I would recommend you check out. A very enjoyable show.
