Black Label Society
with Children of Bodom, Clutch and 2 Cents

Zakk Wylde and Black Label Society hit HFX, NS full force in support of their latest disc entitled ORDER OF THE BLACK. The tour is labeled Berserkus and has 3 other bands on the bill with them. Clutch and CoB put on a fairly good performance but nothing really stood out about their music or stage show for me. 2 Cents were totally forgettable but BLS on the other hand……
A big black curtain with the BLS logo hides the stage from audience view. The music starts, the curtain goes down and the crowd goes up. Zakk is standing atop of a small platform wearing a bowler hat and signature BLS vest. The wall of Marshall’s behind him and Nick look better then any row of Marshall’s have before. These are set apart from the rest is due to the fact that they have metal grates and you can see the tubes lit up in behind on the heads. This all makes for killer looking stacks.
Zakk, Nick, JD and new drummer Will put on one of the most intense shows I have ever witnessed. They were loud, heavy and musically tight. This is everything a Metal show needs to be. The mixed older BLS classics with songs from the new disc and the large crowd were going nuclear. The only time it really slowed down a bit was during “In This River” which Zakk dedicated to Dimebag Darrell. There was solo’s a plenty from both Zakk and Nick. Both of these guys are amazing guitarists. Zakk is one of the few modern players that stands out from the rest. There are many amazing players out there today but few set themselves out from the rest. Zakk is one of those players that is instantly recognizable when you hear him.
If you have never witnessed Black Label Society live you need to do yourself a favor and go the next time they are in your neck of the woods. These guys put off one of the best Metal concerts you will ever see in your life. There is no flash-pots, spinning drums or any of that. You get a full on straight ahead Metal concert with killer music.
