Ronnie Wood – I Feel Like Playing

2010, Eagle Records

Rating: 4/5

Ronnie Wood; who is still somewhat considered as the ‘New Guy’ in The Rolling Stones after 30+ years with the band unleashes this new studio in many years. Like with his previous releases he has his own signature style and sound that is prominently displayed on this album.

For I FEEL LIKE PLAYING, Ronnie delivers 12 soulful yet rocking numbers. There are no real surprises here for anyone that is familiar with his previous efforts. This album is just some enjoyable Blues-based, guitar oriented songs that will satisfy every Stones fan. Add in his raspy vocals for some extra grit and rawness as is demonstrated in such great songs like “100%” and “Thing About You”. The latter being very Stones-like in parts and could have easily been on an album like VOODOO LOUNGE (which was the last enjoyable RS release).

I FEEL LIKE PLAYING is one of the best Blues based Rock guitar albums to have come out in 2010. While not an instrumental guitar album, it is still very instrument oriented but not to the point of overkill and alienating Rock music fans by making it a product that non-players would find boring and uninteresting. Wood chose to focus on lyrics as well as his playing making for an enjoyable listen for all.
