M.I.C. – Out 2 Rock

2010, Independent

Rating: 3.5/5

M.I.C. have been on the go since 2004 in their homeland of China. This is their second album and they are currently working on their third. According to their press release they have gained a new drummer, bass player and an American rhythm guitarist. I guess it would be safe to call this a new Yvon solo disc? Whatever you decide, it is a good disc.

The sounds that came from my speakers when I put this disc on were polished, rocking and more importantly, catchy. They were very melodic with smooth vocals that are easy on the ears and quite enjoyable to listen to. The upbeat rocker “Hot Summer Day” is one that stands out above the rest with it’s heavy guitar riffs and drum sound. It has a real catchy beat to it that you cannot help but enjoy. Possibly the heaviest song on the disc is “ Can’t Live This Way which is almost a throwback to 80’s Hair Metal while “Rockin’ Lucille” is a modernized tribute to 50’s Rock in a similar style to Cheap Trick’s “Clifornia Man”.

Slightly diverse but uniform enough to keep you from going ‘WTF’ and reaching for the remote to skip to the next track or to turn it off. This is one of the biggest surprises of 2010. M.I.C. is one band to keep an eye (and ear) out for in 2011.
