The Rolling Stones – Ladies & Gentlemen…  (DVD)

2010, Eagle Vision

Rating: 4.5/5

Hot on the heels of their STONES IN EXILE DVD, the folks at Eagle Rock Ent. give us; LADIES & GENTLEMEN…THE ROLLING STONES concert film. Filmed over 4 nights in ’72 during the EXILE ON MAIN ST. tour in Texas, this video release catches the band at their best.

Considered by many fans to be the finest Stones performance ever captured on film is nothing short of amazing. A young band (compared to current band) with a fairly recent addition of Mick Taylor on guitar (Post Brian/Pre Ronnie) is the lineup featured here and is quite possibly their strongest one. Performances of such classics as “Bitch”, “Happy”, “Jumping Jack Flash” and “Brown Sugar” make for one extremely enjoyable audio visual experience. Jagger and Richards trading off vocal leads during “Happy” is one of the films hi-lights. By the time they get into “Rip This Joint” the band is on fire and there is no better song to showcase it than this one. Jagger is on 11 at this point and running on pure adrenaline. He never was one to just stand there and sing but he is strutting around the stage and is in constant motion. Wyman and Taylor tend to stay in the background leaving the stage to Keith and Mick.

After watching this film you will know why they became known as ‘The Greatest Rock and Roll Band In The World”. It becomes quite obvious and this concert film is the ultimate in Stones shows.
