With only a year under their belt, Wolvhammer has already been making their fair share of noise in the extreme metal community. Formed in early 2009 by Heath Rave, Micah Leonetti, and Ryan McKern (The Guilt Of…) the band quickly released 2 EP’s (Rich With Bloodfuel and Dawn of the 4th) and soon was sharing the stage with many heavy hitters. With the addition of Andy Schoengrund in early 2010, the band has been able to achieve a goal they have had since inception: to more deeply explore the boundaries of heavy metal by incorporating dark wave and depressive rock into their already solid base.
Upon considering a theme for their debut full length, Wolvhammer looked no further than their homeland. In a country that has been promised hope and change there has been little delivery. Not being able to ignore the pain, suffering, and hopelessness Wolvhammer set out with a vision: to write a cathartic record that expresses their frustrations with humanity and our society… and the possibilities of the future and inevitable end. The production credits to the record read like a who’s who in modern heavy music. With Sanford Parker (Nachtmystium, Twilight, Minsk) at the board, Colin Jordan (Ministry, Yakuza, Pigface) handling mastering duties, and Stavros Giannopoulos (The Atlas Moth, Twilight) in charge of layout and design, Wolvhammer clearly pulled out all the stops to deliver an overwhelming debut. Black Marketeers of World War III is a textural, monolithic display of modern black metal. With styles ranging from 3 minute punk infused thrash jams, to 8 minute lush, blackened opuses, this triumphant debut is bound to turn heads.
As Wolvhammer grows and matures the band is poised not only to make a mark but to carve out a solid place for themselves in the US extreme metal scene.
