2010, Concord Records
Rating: 4.5/5

A few years back a very young Jonny Lang burst onto the music scene with the album LIE TO ME which put him directly in the spotlight. Now, many moons later he is still recording quality albums and touring. With LIVE AT THE RYMAN we get to hear a more mature and developed Lang in a live setting.

LIVE AT THE RYMAN is Lang’s first ever live album. For those of us who have never had the opportunity to see Jonny live this release is a welcomed treat. Since the LIE TO ME album and it’s follow up WANDER THIS WORLD Jonny has matured and has come into his element. Recorded back in 2008 in Nashville this live disc captures the essence of a genre. It appears to be somewhat ironic that a Blues album is recorded in the Country town of Nashville rather than in Chicago or somewhere down south. It is here that Lang has an amazing show (Too bad there isn’t an accompanying DVD) where he just lets loose and belts out the tunes flawlessly. After hearing this recording you will put him up there with some of the well seasoned veterans of Blues.

LIVE AT THE RYMAN is one of the best live Blues discs you could ever own. It has everything you could ever want from this type of release, from the mellow “Red Light” to the rockin’ “Lie To Me”. It’s all here and more.
