SXSW or (South by Southwest) is an interactive, music and film festival based out of Austin, Texas. Now in it’s twenty third year and being one of the largest festivals of it’s kind, SXSW welcomes over 2,000 performers annually at over 90 different venues over the course of four days in March. The last several years have welcomed some amazing performances from classic metal favorites like Metallica and Motorhead. There was a Scandinavian metal showcase several years ago that featured Enslaved and 1349. In 2008, the Swedish power metal commandoes known as Sabaton made their North American debut and most recently, in 2009 Steel Panther broke out of the Sunset Strip long enough to conquer the popular festival. At this year’s event, Motorhead returned to perform two seperate concerts and promote "Lemmy The Movie" the upcoming rockumentary focusing on the charismatic and iconic Motorhead frontman. Michael Monroe (ex-Hanoi Rocks) debuted his new touring lineup with several showcase appearances and legendary Canadian thrashers Voivod triumphantly headlined the Relapse Records showcase that also featured Tombs, Brian Posehn and Graves of Valor.
After headlining a particularly rowdy Relapse Records showcase, Voivod members Michel "Away" Langevin (drums) and Dan Mongrain (guitar) took the time to fill us in on the future of Voivod and the band’s current activities.
In this current age of larger than life rockumentaries, such as "Anvil: The Story of Anvil " and Iron Maiden’s epic "Flight 666" now comes "Lemmy The Movie" a bio-pic that will focus on the legendary Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister. Co-directed by Wes Orshoski and Greg Olliver, Metal-Rules.com recently cornered Wes Orshoski to learn more about this exciting upcoming film.
