The Happy Together 25th Anniversary Tour

The year was 1985.

The Titanic wreckage was found, new Coke was introduced and an extra second was added to the calendar year, giving us just a bit longer to reflect upon some of the great music that hit the States that year in concert.

Fans came out in droves that year to see The Happy Together Tour, which featured a handful of immensely popular music groups that helped define the music of the previous two decades including The Turtles featuring Flo & Eddie, The Grass Roots, The Buckinghams, The Mamas & the Papas and Gary Lewis & The Playboys. Lasting eight months, it would consistently be one of the top grossing tours of the year.

Fast forward twenty-five years to 2010.

The Happy Together Tour is back!

It’s the 25th Anniversary of the greatest pop rock of the sixties and it promises to bring plenty of joy to the music masses.

Although eight tracks, cassettes and "vinyl" are hard to find, the music that propelled the sales of those mediums for many years still remains… and for good reason… great music will always be great music. No matter how you hear it, it will always stand the test of time.

Beginning May 20th in Santa Ynez, California, The Happy Together Tour will embark on approximately twenty dates (see partial itinerary below) to celebrate the 25th anniversary of that memorable 1985 tour.

The Turtles featuring Flo & Eddie will once again be joined by The Grass Roots featuring Rob Grill and The Buckinghams, along with The Monkees lead singer Micky Dolenz and Mark Lindsay, former lead singer of Paul Revere & The Raiders.

Music fans would certainly be hard-pressed to find a tour this summer filled with more hits, especially those sung by the original singers.

"Happy Together" by The Turtles hit #1 on the charts in 1967 and remains a staple on classic rock radio to this day. It’s just one of their nine Top 40 hits, which includes such popular songs as "She’d Rather Be With Me," "Elenore," "You Showed Me" and "It Ain’t Me Babe."

"Indian Reservation" by Paul Revere & The Raiders hit #1 on the charts in 1971, selling over 4 million copies which made it the biggest selling single for Columbia Records for almost a decade. This massive hit followed quite a few that came before it from the band including "Kicks," "Hungry," "Just Like Me" and "Good Thing" (as well as the Mark Lindsay Top Ten solo hit, "Arizona," from 1970). In all, the band would achieve no less than fifteen Top 40 hits.

The Grass Roots burst upon the scene in ’67 and would not only amass over a dozen Top 40 hits, but go on to perform in front of an estimated 600,000 people in Washington, D.C. on July 4, 1982 setting an all-time attendance record for an concert performance consisting of just one act. Between 1967 and 1972 — thanks to numerous hits such as "Midnight Confessions," "Let’s Live For Today," "Sooner or Later," "I’d Wait A Million Years" and "Temptation Eyes," the band would set a record for being on the Billboard charts for 307 consecutive weeks.

In 1966, hot on the heels of their new NBC television show, The Monkees would release a self-titled debut album that would top the U.S. charts for thirteen consecutive weeks and sell an overwhelming 3.2 million copies in just three months. The single, "Last Train to Clarksville," from the album would be their first #1 hit. Their second #1 hit came quickly with "I’m a Believer" (featured on the band’s second album, More of The Monkees), which had over a million advance orders. The band would continue to put out numerous hits such as "(I’m Not Your) Steppin’ Stone" and "Pleasant Valley Sunday" among others… In 1986, the four members got together for "The Monkees 20th Anniversary World Tour," a 145 date trek that would become the largest grossing tour of the year. The band — who have reconvened a few times since that tour — remain as iconic as ever…

"Kind of a Drag" from The Buckinghams would also reach the pinnacle of chart success, yet mark just one of many popular hits from the band including "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy," "Don’t You Care," "Susan" and "Hey Baby (They’re Playing Our Song)." Their success in 1967 would lead them to be named "The Most Listened To Band in America" by Billboard Magazine.

Here’s what the artists have to say about the forthcoming Happy Together 25th Anniversary Tour:

"It’s no exaggeration to say that the artists and music that are part of the Happy Together Tour 2010 have brought more people together than cupid. These acts have made the greatest pop songs of any generation. To get to hear these songs in one concert is mind-boggling."

–Mark Volman / The Turtles featuring Flo & Eddie–

"I’m incredibly lucky to have shared both the rock and roll record charts as well as friendship with each of the Happy Together artists. If you take all of the hit songs that people will hear on this show, I’m sure they represent a substantial part of the soundtrack of their lives."

–Mark Lindsay / Former Lead Singer of Paul Revere & The Raiders–

"I’m absolutely thrilled to be back for the 25th Anniversary of this tour and look forward to seeing everyone out there."

–Rob Grill / The Grass Roots featuring Rob Grill–

"The Buckinghams are very much looking forward to being a part of The Happy Together Tour. It was a great tour in the 80’s, and it will be a great tour in 2010. We are blessed to have some of the best fans in the world that support our music. So the magic will continue with some of the greatest songs of the 60’s."

–Carl Giammarese / The Buckinghams–

"I can’t wait to get back on the road with the old gang! Nothing beats stopping at a truck stop on Interstate 95 at four in the morning and having two chili dogs with onions!"

–Micky Dolenz / The Monkees Lead Singer–

The above songs are just a few of the hits one can expect to hear on this summer’s Happy Together Tour.

Get out, go see it and imagine how the world could be so very fine… So Happy Together.

TRIUMPH RELEASE GREATEST HITS CD AND DVD SET

Few acts could whip an arena full of rockers into a frenzy as Triumph did throughout the late ‘70s and ‘80s, when the group’s best known line-up – guitarist/vocalist  Rik Emmett, bassist/keyboardist Mike Levine, and drummer/vocalist Gil Moore – were at the peak of their powers. And it’s this exact time period that is focused on throughout Triumph’s new “best of” set – ‘Greatest Hits: Remixed’ – which will be released on May 18, 2010.

All of the classic tunes that were – and continue to be – in heavy rotation on rock radio (and the early days of MTV) are included here, namely, “Lay it on the Line,” “Hold On,” “Fight the Good Fight,” “Magic Power,” etc.

These fourteen tracks of anthemic metal have never sounded so good, as they were all recently remixed by Rich Chycki (who has previously worked with Aerosmith and Rush). The set also includes a previously unreleased recording – “Love Hurts” – which will be the lead-off single from Triumph’s ‘Greatest Hits: Remixed.’

"We have been planning this release forever," says Levine. "For years, Triumph fans have been demanding that we give them a fresh greatest hits package and they are going to love this one."

Also included in the set is a DVD mixed in 5.1 audio, that features eleven promo and live videos in widescreen (plus additional unreleased videos for “Child of the City,” “Blinding Light Show,” and “Love Hurts,” and footage of the group’s 2008 induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame).

The deluxe two-disc package will be housed in a six-panel digipak – including a 20-page color booklet, complete with liner notes, lyrics, and chockfull of vintage photos.

Whether you’re a long-time Triumph fanatic or a new convert, you have never heard the group as crystal clear and loud n’ proud as you will throughout ‘Greatest Hits: Remixed.’ "’Greatest Hits: Remixed’ rocks like no other Triumph set,” declares Moore. “This is the definitive Triumph collector’s edition."

AMERICAN HI-FI:  Ready To ‘Fight The Frequency’ On June 22; “Lost” Single & Video Impacting Soon

AMERICAN HI-FI is ready to FIGHT THE FREQUENCY and back to their roots with their fourth studio album, due out June 22 on their own label, Hi-Fi Killers/The Ascot Club (through Megaforce/RED/Sony).  It’s the highly anticipated follow-up to 2005’s HEARTS ON PARADE (Maverick).  It was produced by singer/guitarist Stacy Jones and recorded at his studio in Los Angeles, The Deathstar.

The first single and video, “Lost,” from the original line-up–Stacy Jones (singer/guitarist), Drew Parsons (bass), Jamie Arentzen (guitars) and Brian Nolan (drums)—will be released in the coming weeks.

As Jones recently explained on Altpress.com:  “I think we’ve circled back to the first record in terms of sonics and style.  We’ve moved back to big, riff-driven guitar parts with melodies on top and a slightly harder edge.”  Jones later added, “In the past, there was always the pressures and expectations that came from being on a record label.  Now, we have the freedom to put the business aside and just play rock music like we always wanted!”

So what’s the band been doing for the past five years?  They’ve mostly been busy with Miley Cyrus.  Singer Stacy Jones has been her music director and drummer, while Jamie Arentzen has been her guitarist.  They’ve both been featured in everything and anything Miley Cyrus, including the 2009 movie and “Best Of Both Worlds” concert film/DVD.  Jones has also produced records for artists such as Ingrid Michaelson, Meg & Dia, The Cab, Plain White T’s, and many others.

Over the course of their 10-year career, American Hi-Fi has sold over 1 million albums thanks to hit singles such as the Top 10 smash “Flavor Of The Weak,” “Another Perfect Day” (which was used as Coca-Cola’s theme for the 2002 Winter Olympics) and “The Art Of Losing,” and they’ve toured the world with artists such as Elvis Costello, Matchbox Twenty, Bon Jovi and Fall Out Boy.  Before teaming up as American Hi-Fi, the band members performed as part of various influential bands from the ‘90s Alternative Rock scene, including Veruca Salt and Letters to Cleo, and with Tanya Donelly, Tracy Bonham, Aimee Mann, and Juliana Hatfield individually.  Their songs have been heard on TV shows and commercials such as Coors, Labatt Blue, Verizon, “Boston Public,” “24” and “Dawson’s Creek,” video games including “Guitar Hero 3,” and in movies including “American Pie 2,” “Freaky Friday,” “Van Wilder” and “Superman Returns.”
