HannTu: Napalm Death are another band I’ve seen more times than I care to remember, and I’m constantly reminded of how I hated them the first time I saw them, and how they slowly won me over with their intense and whole-hearted approach to live shows. That, and also reading Albert Mudrian’s book ‘Choosing Death…’ gave me a whole new perspective on and appreciation of Napalm Death’s influence on extreme metal.
A live show with the irrepressible Barney Greenway is part mental institution, part kindergarten, part political rally, and part comedy club. So it was, when he went on short rants about humanity (‘Life and Limb’), sexism (‘It’s A Man’s World’) and racism (‘Nazi Punks Fuck Off’). He also found the time to tell the stage crew to “turn off the smoke and stuff, we don’t need that shit” and to rag on our very own Arto Lehtinen of Metal-Rules.com, for being as clean as a whistle, as opposed to the rest of us mud-covered losers.

They’re old – and Barney gasped “Gimme a sec, I’m fucking knackered…I think I’m alright now…” – but they still give a pummelling show that puts many bands half their age to shame. Check out the new album TIME WAITS FOR NO SLAVE too, it’s as angry and as young as Napalm Death always are.

HannTu: I find that I enjoy Dragonforce more from the photo pit than from the crowd nowadays. I had also found myself walking past the main stage at Hellfest while they were playing. I don’t enjoy this band live as much as I used to, but having the opportunity to shoot them from up close is definitely very rewarding – a photogenic and active band makes for some great pics. Enjoy (see if you can spot Vadim’s torn trousers):
