Lisa Marie Presley on ex-husband Michael Jackson
Years ago Michael and I were having a deep conversation about life in general.
I can’t recall the exact subject matter but he may have been questioning me about the circumstances of my Fathers Death.
At some point he paused, he stared at me very intensely and he stated with an almost calm certainty, "I am afraid that I am going to end up like him, the way he did."
I promptly tried to deter him from the idea, at which point he just shrugged his shoulders and nodded almost matter of fact as if to let me know, he knew what he knew and that was kind of that.
14 years later I am sitting here watching on the news an ambulance leaves the driveway of his home, the big gates, the crowds outside the gates, the coverage, the crowds outside the hospital, the Cause of death and what may have led up to it and the memory of this conversation hit me, as did the unstoppable tears.
A predicted ending by him, by loved ones and by me, but what I didn’t predict was how much it was going to hurt when it finally happened.
The person I failed to help is being transferred right now to the LA County Coroners office for his Autopsy.
All of my indifference and detachment that I worked so hard to achieve over the years has just gone into the bowels of hell and right now I am gutted.
I am going to say now what I have never said before because I want the truth out there for once.
Our relationship was not "a sham" as is being reported in the press. It was an unusual relationship yes, where two unusual people who did not live or know a "Normal life" found a connection, perhaps with some suspect timing on his part. Nonetheless, I do believe he loved me as much as he could love anyone and I loved him very much.
I wanted to "save him" I wanted to save him from the inevitable which is what has just happened.
His family and his loved ones also wanted to save him from this as well but didn’t know how and this was 14 years ago. We all worried that this would be the outcome then.
At that time, In trying to save him, I almost lost myself.
He was an incredibly dynamic force and power that was not to be underestimated.
When he used it for something good, It was the best and when he used it for something bad, It was really, REALLY bad.
Mediocrity was not a concept that would even for a second enter Michael Jackson’s being or actions.
I became very ill and emotionally/ spiritually exhausted in my quest to save him from certain self-destructive behavior and from the awful vampires and leeches he would always manage to magnetize around him.
I was in over my head while trying.
I had my children to care for, I had to make a decision.
The hardest decision I have ever had to make, which was to walk away and let his fate have him, even though I desperately loved him and tried to stop or reverse it somehow.
After the Divorce, I spent a few years obsessing about him and what I could have done different, in regret.
Then I spent some angry years at the whole situation.
At some point, I truly became Indifferent, until now.
As I sit here overwhelmed with sadness, reflection and confusion at what was my biggest failure to date, watching on the news almost play by play The exact Scenario I saw happen on August 16th, 1977 happening again right now with Michael (A sight I never wanted to see again) just as he predicted, I am truly, truly gutted.
Any ill experience or words I have felt towards him in the past has just died inside of me along with him.
He was an amazing person and I am lucky to have gotten as close to him as I did and to have had the many experiences and years that we had together.
I desperately hope that he can be relieved from his pain, pressure and turmoil now.
He deserves to be free from all of that and I hope he is in a better place or will be.
I also hope that anyone else who feels they have failed to help him can be set free because he hopefully finally is.
The World is in shock but somehow he knew exactly how his fate would be played out some day more than anyone else knew, and he was right.
I really needed to say this right now, thanks for listening.
Santana / Journey Founding Member Gregg Rolie Releases Limited Edition Live CD
Legendary Santana / Journey founding member, and Rock n Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Gregg Rolie has released a limited edition CD of his band in concert in 2007. On this 12-track CD, the Gregg Rolie Band whip up a blistering performance featuring all the beloved Santana hits, as well as tracks from his 2001 critically acclaimed solo CD ‘Roots’ and a few new songs. Songs include "No One To Depend On", "Jingo", "Evil Ways". "Black Magic Woman", "Soul Sacrifice" and others.
The final track on the CD, "Bailamos El Son", was taken from Gregg Rolie’s performance on the PBS special Trini Lopez Presents The Legends of Latin Music. Filmed at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles last October, the program will be aired in June 2009. Celebrating its 40th Anniversary, this year Warner Home Video’s will be releasing a Blu-ray and DVD Ultimate Collector’s Edition with high definition picture and sound of ‘Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace & Music’, which will also feature two hours of bonus material, some of it newly-discovered. Much to the elation of fans worldwide, extra footage of Santana’s historic Woodstock performance will be included. Held at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas on March 23rd, along with Santana alumni Michael Shr ieve, Gregg resided on20a discussion panel of performers, filmakers and key technicians who helped create the timeless music classic and Oscar winning ‘Best Documentary’ Woodstock. Also, the Gregg Rolie band recently performed at the Hard Rock Cafe New York for the premier of the new ‘Woodstock’ DVD / Blue-ray release. Audience members were treated to a guest appearance by drummer Michael Shrieve during the set.
"The first time I played with Gregg everything just clicked. In a humble way, it was very much like McCartney and Lennon. You know when there’s chemistry there. Drummers came and went; congeros came and went, but his feeling and my feeling…sometimes it was hard to tell who was the needle and who was the thread." Carlos Santana
Gregg Rolie is responsible for co-founding two phenomenally popular, multi-platinum super groups – Santana and Journey. In 1998, the world class keyboardist/vocalist/producer was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame as part of the original Santana band. Formed in San Francisco in 1969, the multi-cultural ensemble produced three groundbreaking hit albums which yeilded several FM staples. You’ve heard Gregg’s voice and keyboards on such classic Santana hits as "Black Magic Woman", "Evil Ways", "No One To Depend On", "Everybody’s Everything" and "Oye Como Va". "There’s one unique ability of the band," Gregg told music critic Ben Fong-Torres, "and that was that it created music that there is no name for… Santana’s music is such a jell of different20material that there just is no name for it, and there’s no one that plays it like Santana does."
Departing after the pioneering jazz fusion offering ‘Caravansarai’ in 1972, both band members Gregg Rolie and Neal Schon went on to form quintessential 1980s hit-makers Journey. After co-writing and producing the band’s first 7 albums, along with constant touring, Gregg decided to leave Journey once the hugely successful 1981 live double LP ‘Captured’ was issued. During the ’80s Rolie wrote, produced and played on the Santana albums ‘Shango’ and ‘Freedom’, and released his debut, self-titled 1985 solo album and its 1987 follow-up ‘Gringo’, before co-founding the all-new Journey-esque rock group The Storm at the tail end of the decade. The Storm released two albums: ‘92’s eponymous disc that yielded the #13 Billboard Hot 100 hit "I’ve Got A Lot To Learn About Love" and ‘96’s ‘Eye Of the Storm’. That same year, Rolie, along with five other original Santana members, formed Abraxas Pool, a spirited collaboration that resulted in the 1997 critically acclaimed album of the same name.
Thirty-five years after Gregg and Carlos met in San Francisco, 2001 marked the release of Rolie’s third solo album ‘Roots’. The first-ever release on Bay-Area based Tower Records’ new proprietary label 33rd Street, ‘Roots’ finds Gregg revisiting the incredible brew of sounds he helped conjure up in the late 60’s. Rolie calls Roots’ twelve original selections "Latin rock plus"; the instrumentation is Latin percussion, with organ, guitar, horns, and lots of great solo work and songwriting", adding that "I really wanted to go all the way back to my Santana roots".
The Gregg Rolie Band consists of founding Santana member Michael Carabello on Congas, Adrian Areas (son of original Santana percussionist Jose Chepito Areas) on Timbales, drummer Ron Wikso (who was also in The Storm), Kurt Griffey on guitars, internationally acclaimed bassist, Chapman Stick artist and Santana alumni Alphonso Johnson and former Jean Luc Ponty keyboardist Wally Minko. "If you are having a good time at anything you do, you are going to do a good job at what you do," Gregg recently told music critic Jim Harrington. "That’s really where the key to this band is. We really just enjoy each other a tremendous amount and have a lot of fun with this. We will get up to playing about 50 dates a year, and really that’s about all I want to do." The Gregg Rolie Band will be performing throughout 2009 with tour dates listed on his official website.

BUCKCHERRY SCORES #1 MOST ADDED TRACK AT ACTIVE ROCK
Eleven Seven Music has announced that BUCKCHERRY, dubbed “the next great American rock band” will now be distributed through EMI Music domestically and internationally through The Eleven Seven Music Group’s new global deal. Eleven Seven Music was sole home to the band leading into their hit “Crazy Bitch” which, along with their smash hit “Sorry” spurred their album 15 to sell over a million copies. Following a brief upstream deal, the band returns wholly to the Rock Label of The Year (2008, FMQB) and #1 Independent Rock Label (2008, Mediabase) with an enhanced version of their current CD, Black Butterfly which Entertainment Weekly called Album of the Year and iTunes critics picked as Best Rock Album. This release includes a new track, “Highway Star,” the TNT NASCAR theme, added to Black Butterfly beginning on Tuesday, June 30 on iTunes and other digital service providers. This week also sees the band’s latest single, “Talk To Me” grab the position of #1 most added at active rock radio immediately following its release. See the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1c5nhxPW-c .
The band will be performing their version of “Highway Star” and “Talk To Me” on the infield at the Coke Zero 400 in Daytona on July 4th (6:30 pm ET on TNT) in conjunction with their promotional partnership with Turner Sports’ NASCAR programming. Turner Sports’ previous musical pairings include The Rolling Stones (NASCAR), Hinder (NASCAR), Bon Jovi (MLB), and many others. The video for Buckcherry’s NASCAR theme can be seen at: http://www.nascar.com/promos/tnt/buckcherry/2009/.
This fall, Buckcherry joins KISS on their fall tour which is being routed through www.eventful.com/KISS, allowing fans to vote at the website through June 30th to “demand” what cities they want to see the tour hit. More than 8,000 cities and towns are already represented on the fan-submitted list.
“As an artist, there’s nothing better than knowing that our record label is as invested in our success as Eleven Seven is. Eleven Seven Music has proven itself and now joining forces with EMI Distribution, the band couldn’t be happier,” said Buckcherry’s Josh Todd.
Allen Kovac, Founder and CEO of The Eleven Seven Music Group notes, “Our formula is to time our records for a career, activating the fan base directly and allowing the content to find its audience over a period of time. It was two years between “Crazy Bitch” and “Sorry” and we kept working, the band kept working and we had a hit. Julie Greenwald and her team are amazing, dedicated professionals and we appreciate all that they contributed to this band. We look forward to all of the possibilities we have in front of us with our new global distribution partner EMI Music.”
Black Butterfly debuted at #8 on the Top 200 chart as the highest debuting rock album and has produced four multi-format hits including the latest rock track, “Talk To Me.” Buckcherry scored its first Top 10 single, “Sorry,” on the Hot 100 Billboard Chart in 2008, and in its 12-year career been best known for writing and performing anthemic rock songs.

GEORGE HARRISON’S FIRST-EVER CAREER-SPANNING SOLO HITS COLLECTION, ‘LET IT ROLL: SONGS BY GEORGE HARRISON
Capitol/EMI releases George Harrison’s first-ever career-spanning solo hits collection, Let It Roll: Songs by George Harrison, in CD and digital formats. iTunes exclusively offers the digital album with a previously unreleased bonus track, Harrison’s earliest demo version of “Isn’t It A Pity.” The CD version includes a 28-page booklet featuring previously unseen and rare photos, and newly-written liner notes by Warren Zanes. The collection’s 19 tracks have been digitally remastered by Giles Martin at EMI’s Abbey Road Studios.
“Let It Roll: Songs by George Harrison is a gathering of material that takes us far into the territory that was ultimately a place unique to George Harrison,” writes Warren Zanes in his liner notes essay for the new collection.
This collection is the first to span Harrison’s entire solo recording career, including the #1 Billboard Pop singles “My Sweet Lord,” “Isn’t It A Pity,” “Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth),” and “Got My Mind Set On You." Let It Roll also features live recordings of three timeless Harrison-penned Beatles songs, “Something,” “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” and “Here Comes The Sun,” from his 1971 all-star Concert For Bangladesh benefit at Madison Square Garden.
“The keyhole into the world of George Harrison is the music itself. Yet his songs and the accomplishments for which he’s remembered are inextricably bound—and those accomplishments are, without question, eclectic in scope,” Zanes writes.
George Harrison is a twice-inducted member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as a solo artist and as a member of The Beatles, and an 11-time Grammy Award winner for his recordings with The Beatles, Traveling Wilburys, and as a solo artist. On April 14, Harrison was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles.

BILLY TALENT III SPECIAL EDITION GIVES FANS A CHANCE TO RELEASE THEIR INNER GUITAR GOD
Billy Talent’s new album, Billy Talent III, will be released in Canada on Tuesday July 14, 2009. In addition to the standard 11 track single CD version of the album, fans have the option of purchasing a deluxe version that includes two wall posters with the guitar tabs for every song on the album as well as a second disc in which the guitar parts have been wiped off the recordings so that budding young guitarists can play along once they’ve learned the songs. The second disc also contains a number of demos of songs that eventually made it on to Billy Talent III.
Billy Talent guitarist Ian D’sa has confounded young fans with his opening tuning style of playing and now with the deluxe edition of Billy Talent III a lot of the guessing will be eliminated as guitarists will be able to see exactly what he plays on the album. The tablature posters illustrate everything from Ian’s tunings, to his chord structures and guitar solos – an invaluable tool for anyone wanting to learn how to play these songs.
Billy Talent III recorded by noted producer Brendan O’Brien (AC/DC, Stone Temple Pilots) in studios in Los Angeles and Atlanta. This week, the album’s first single, “Rusted From The Rain” has become Billy Talent’s first ever #1 track at Modern Rock Radio in Canada.
Billy Talent are currently in Europe playing a number of festival dates. In Nuerburg, Germany this past weekend they played in front of more than 80,000 fans at the Rock Am Ring festival. The band headlines Edgefest in Toronto on June 20 and then performs “Rusted From The Rain” on the MuchMusic Videos awards on June 21.
Ever since the release of their self-titled album in the Summer of 2002, Billy Talent have become one of Canada’s biggest rock bands, where constant touring and incendiary live shows have taken the Toronto-based band to the upper echelon of the Rock World. The band’s second album, Billy Talent II debuted at NUMBER ONE in Canada and Germany which then led to the band headlining sold-out tours across Canada, Europe and the United States. Billy Talent have won a number of awards on both sides of the Atlantic including twice being named Group of the Year at the JUNO Awards, numerous MuchMusic Video Awards and two prestigious Echo Music Awards in Germany as Best Rock / Alternative Band International and Best Newcomer / International.
FOGHAT GOES GOLD WITH ‘BEST OF’ CD
British classic rockers Foghat continue to experience an incredible resurgence throughout the world – but especially the U.S., where their sixteen-track compilation, ‘The Best of Foghat,’ recently obtained gold-certification (500,000 copies sold).
The collection, which was originally issued in 1989, includes all of Foghat’s hits and rock radio standards, including such anthems as "Slow Ride," "I Just Want to Make Love to You," "Fool for the City," "Drivin’ Wheel," and "Ride, Ride, Ride," among others.
As a result of this latest landmark accomplishment in the history of Foghat, the band – which consists of Charlie Huhn (vocals, guitar), Bryan Bassett (guitar), Craig MacGregor (bass), and Roger Earl (drums) – recently received gold plaques for ‘The Best of Foghat,’ presented by DJ Adam Furious from the New Hampshire radio station WGIR ROCK 101 and Noisy SOD management.
This is the group’s eleventh gold or platinum award overall. Footage of the event can be viewed here:
“My wife told me that I could have a new Aston Martin with my next gold record,” says Earl, “But apparently this one doesn’t count! But on a serious note, I am very grateful to our fans – both old and new. It’s so cool to see all of those young faces out there, and showing them how a bunch of old bastards can really rock. And to still be rockin’ with my co-captain, Craig MacGregor, after 35 years, and especially to Charlie and Bryan. They are such a blast to play with, and they had some big shoes to fill. And in the immortal words of Lonesome Dave, ‘We’re gonna roll ’til we’re old, and rock ’til we drop.’ Thanks!”
While MacGregor and Earl are the longest-tenured Foghat members in the line-up (all the way back to the ‘70s), both Huhn and Bassett have been Foghat members for nearly a full decade by this point, and for their contribution for keeping the Foghat legacy alive, also received gold plaques for ‘The Best of Foghat.’ Much can be attributed to Foghat’s long-lasting popularity and increased album/ticket sales of late, as the quartet continues to tour relentlessly – as evidenced by such strong recent live releases ‘Live II’ and ‘Live at the Blues Warehouse’ , and strong concert reviews. Foghat has also reached a whole generation of young fans due to their all-time classic road anthem, “Slow Ride,” being the first song on the popular ‘Guitar Hero III’ videogame, in addition to recently being sung by Adam Lambert and Allison Iraheta on ‘American Idol’ to millions of viewers, as well as being used in various commercials (Honda Odyssey, Carl’s Jr, Ace Hardware) and movies ( ‘Wild Hogs’). And Foghat refuses to stand still, as the group continues to tour – as evidenced by their live summer and fall schedule – and is hard at work on a blues CD and a new DVD, both of which will be issued by the end of year.

With an exciting schedule of upcoming releases from the likes of Quincy Jones, Ted Nugent, Black Crowes, Jethro Tull, Gary Moore, Jason Aldean, The Chieftains, and Willie Nelson, 2009 is shaping up to be the year of the ‘Rock!
Hippiefest to Feature Rock Legends from the 60’s and 70’s!
"If you’re looking for a little ‘Good Lovin’ this summer where everyone will be ‘Happy Together’ and spreading ‘Joy To The World,’ then Hippiefest is just the ticket," touts Hippiefest tour creator Toby Ludwig. "This festival is for people who weren’t around in the ’60s and ’70s or were and just can’t seem to remember… Bring your parents, your grandparents and your kids. Come be a Hippie for a day!"
On Tuesday, July 21st, the fourth annual Hippiefest tour ("A Concert for Peace & Love") will kick off at the DTE Energy Music Theatre in Auburn Hills, Michigan with a line-up that will feature such stellar performers from the sixties and seventies as Chuck Negron formerly of Three Dog Night, Felix Cavaliere of the Rascals, The Turtles featuring Flo & Eddie, Badfinger featuring Joey Molland and Mountain featuring Leslie West & Corky Laing.
The Miami Herald called the event "A taste of Woodstock without the mud and bad acid" while Newsday said that Hippiefest was "Guaranteed to get boomers misty-eyed enough to fog up their bifocals."
The New York Post summed it up by saying, "No shoes, no shirt, no problem."
It’s easy to see why Hippiefest will, once again, be an evening full of good times and greatest hits as this year’s main artists and their respective bands have amassed a collective total of over three dozen Top Twenty singles with seven of those hitting number one on the U.S. charts.
"I’m so looking forward to performing with the fine artists participating in this year’s Hippiefest and singing my 1971 Song of the Year, ‘Joy To The World,’ " states Chuck Negron, formerly the singer of Three Dog Night. The band — who were easily one of America’s most successful bands of the late sixties and early seventies — had eighteen consecutive Top 20 hits and twenty consecutive Top 40 hits, ultimately selling over ninety million albums total worldwide. Three of their songs — "Mama Told Me Not To Come," "Joy To The World" and "Black and White" — hit number one on the charts. Other Top Ten hits included, "One," "Easy To Be Hard," "Eli’s Coming," "Liar," "Old Fashioned Love Song," "Never Been To Spain," "Shambala" and "The Show Must Go On."
Felix Cavaliere of the Rascals also has an incredible catalog of popular songs to choose from… As the vocalist and keyboard player for the group Steven Van Zandt called, "the first rock band in the world" (Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremonies in 1997), Cavaliere and the (Young) Rascals had three number one hits — "Good Lovin’," "Groovin’ " and "People Got To Be Free" — among several Top 20 classics as "A Girl Like You," "I’ve Been Lonely Too Long," "You Better Run," "It’s Wonderful," "A Beautiful Morning" and "How Can I Be Sure" (the latter two of which were Top 5).
The Turtles first hit the scene in 1965 with their rendition of the Bob Dylan-penned song, "It Ain’t Me Babe," which landed in the Top 10. However, it wasn’t until two years later that they would release their massive number one hit, "Happy Together." The song remains a staple on classic rock radio more than forty years later… The band would go on to record such other Top 10 hits as "She’d Rather Be With Me," "Elenore" and "You Showed Me." Original vocalists Mark Volman (Flo) and Howard Kaylan (Eddie) — who host the Hippiefest shows — have carried on the classic music of the band since its inception and the two still perform dozens of dates a year together as The Turtles featuring Flo & Eddie. "The Turtles — a.k.a. Flo and Eddie — are really looking forward to performing and hosting on this year’s Hippiefest tour," states Kaylan. "Every year, the shows just keep getting better, the audiences are hipper and the concerts take us all back to a happier time. We are, once again, proud and happy to be a part of history. We have a ton of surprises this summer, too!"
If you want to hear some great music, here it is… "Come and Get It!"
From 1970 to 1972, Badfinger had three Top 10 songs with "Come and Get It," "No Matter What" and "Day After Day" as well as a Top 20 hit with "Baby Blue." The band was the very first to sign with the Beatles label, Apple Records. Badfinger featuring Joey Molland (vocals, guitars, keyboards) continues to perform the band’s timeless music and is excited to be a part of this year’s summer tour. "I’m very happy to have been invited back for my fourth Hippiefest tour," comments Molland. "The shows are great fun for both the audiences and artists alike… I love to watch these great stars like Felix Cavaliere and The Turtles performing some of their biggest hits. I get a chance to make new friends and catch up with old ones. The audiences are great! They come in the thousands to remember those Hippie days and we performers use the energy they bring… It’s a blast!"
Does anybody remember Woodstock?
Some do and some don’t… even if they were there!
It was here on Saturday, August 16, 1969 that the music masses first became aware of Mountain, who performed an hour-long set of twelve songs between appearances by Canned Heat and Janis Joplin. That special performance marked only their fourth engagement as a band. Here it is, forty years later, and Leslie West (vocals, guitars) and Corky Laing (drums) are still bringing it loud and clear with a variety of songs including their Top 40 hit, "Mississippi Queen."
"For myself, this is forty years of true rock," says Mountain founder Leslie West. "This summer is special and so are the people that come to see us… I hope it rocks for everyone! We will get it on!"
Also to perform on various dates are Denny Laine formerly of the Moody Blues and Wings (he was the singer of the Moody Blues’ first Top 10 hit, "Go Now"), Mitch Ryder of the Detroit Wheels ("Devil With The Blue Dress On" and "Sock It To Me Baby"), Brewer & Shipley ("One Toke Over The Line") and Vanilla Fudge’s Mark Stein and Vince Martel ("You Keep Me Hangin’ On").
The Hippiefest tour — which captures the spirit of Woodstock and other great music festivals of the era — will land in nineteen cities for twenty performances throughout the United States including Detroit, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Minneapolis, Tulsa, Dallas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Diego and Fort Lauderdale (please see below for full itinerary).
Hippiefest is once again being presented by Toby Ludwig and Ron Hausfeld of Flower Power Concerts, Inc..
Let the sun shine in and have some psychedelic fun this summer!
All is groovy.

THE BLACK CROWES Announce Release of NEW CD, with Free Second Album for Fans
THE BLACK CROWES will release their new studio CD, Before the Frost… on September 1, 2009.
A second album, titled …Until The Freeze, will be given away for free exclusively through a unique download code which is included in Before The Frost… as a “thank you” to their fans for two decades of continued support.
Before the Frost…, and its corresponding free album …Until The Freeze, were recorded over a series of five nights at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, NY. Although both are studio albums, all the new material was performed and recorded in front of an intimate audience of the band’s fans, making them a part of The Black Crowes musical history.
The innovative technique of inviting fans into the studio to become part of the process during recording is a rare experience.
Before the Frost… features eleven new and previously unreleased Black Crowes songs including Good Morning Captain, I Ain’t Hiding, Been a Long Time (Waiting on Love), and other original songs that will serve to spotlight the bands ability to make emotional connections through their music. The free album …Until The Freeze is a nine-song collection featuring eight new original Black Crowes songs plus a cover version of the Stephen Stills classic So Many Times.
A limited edition vinyl release of Before The Frost…Until The Freeze, featuring all 20 tracks, will also be available on
September 1, 2009.
Chris Robinson conceived the concept of Before the Frost…Until The Freeze.
“I think we fulfilled a musical commitment to continue on the golden road of artistic independence. Approaching 20 years into our careers, we still are ambitious enough to push ourselves to create something unique that we have never done before.”
Critical acclaim and popular success has seen THE BLACK CROWES sell over 20 million albums worldwide. As they approach their upcoming 20th anniversary of the release of one of rock’s most influential records, Shake Your Money Maker, which produced such hits as Jealous Again, She Talks To Angels and Hard to Handle, they are time and again hailed as one of Rock and Roll’s best live acts.
THE BLACK CROWES are: Chris Robinson (vocals), Rich Robinson (guitar, vocals), Steve Gorman (drums), Sven Pipien (bass), Adam MacDougall (keyboards) and Luther Dickinson (guitar).

JET SET DATE FOR WORLDWIDE PRIORITY RELEASE OF HIGHLY ANTICIPATED NEW ALBUM
JET, the Australian rockers will release their highly anticipated Shaka Rock on August 25 on their newly created Real Horrorshow Records through the Five Seven Music imprint with distribution and services through EMI Label Services in the US, UK and Canada and by EMI in the rest of the world under license. This global priority will feature a worldwide coordinated plan of converging marketing, touring, publicity promotion, sales, distribution and other support from EMI and Five Seven Music. This move reunites the band with EMI and key members of the team that originally broke them out of Australia in 2003.
After four million albums sold worldwide and four Top Ten Modern Rock and Rock hits (including the #1 “Cold Hard Bitch”), the authentic Australian rockers have returned to form with an album that parallels their smash, Get Born, which produced hits like “Are Your Gonna Be My Girl” and “Cold Hard Bitch.” The new album closes the gap between the raw roots of Get Born and the grace and melody of Shine On which together went on to make JET an international band of style and substance. Shaka Rock captures the charisma and energy of classic rock and roll with just enough punk swagger and contemporary flair to create something uniquely JET. The single “She’s A Genius” goes to radio on June 22 and a viral video for the track “K.I.A.” is making its way around the internet.
The JET album builds upon a deal announced last month between EMI and The Eleven Seven Music Group in which EMI will release and market The Eleven Seven Music Group’s roster in the UK and Europe. In addition to those territories, EMI Label Services will work with imprint Five Seven Music to release the JET album in the US and Canada and the rest of the world including support from EMI’s promotion, merchandising, digital and physical distribution, licensing, synchronization and brand partnerships teams.
Real Horrorshow Records/Five Seven Music are part of a new modern rock division of the top rock label confab, The Eleven Seven Music Group whose roster includes Buckcherry, Mötley Crüe, Drowning Pool, Trapt and others is also home to Eleven Seven Music, named #1 Independent Rock Label (2008) by Mediabase and the rock label of the year by industry trade FMQB (2008).
“JET is a band that transcends borders, which is why they are one of the handful of modern artists with a global footprint due to their compelling music and presence. We are thrilled to launch our imprint Five Seven Music with Shaka Rock in conjunction with JET’s Realhorrorshow Records as well as to launch our first major project with our partners at EMI Music around the world,” notes Allen Kovac, Founder and CEO of The Eleven Seven Music Group and the band’s manager.
“We’re thrilled to work with JET and Allen’s team to bring this stellar album to the world,” said Ronn Werre, EMI Music’s Chief Operating Officer, North America & Mexico, and President, Music Services worldwide. “They’ve made a fantastic record and our team around the world is ready to connect the band with both existing and new fans on a variety of platforms in some very innovative ways.”
“I can say that the band are thrilled with Shaka Rock in every conceivable way, and excited to know that we are 100% in control of every element of our career at this point with the new set-up. Releasing the record on our own Real Horrorshow Records in conjunction with Allen Kovac and his team at Five Seven, and working with EMI worldwide, the band have never felt stronger. We’ve had a don’t think twice attitude throughout the making of this record which continues as we get ready to release it,” says JET’s Chris Cester.
FIREHOUSE GUITARIST BILL LEVERTY RELEASES NEW CD
With his guitar work as a member of FireHouse, Bill Leverty set the rock world ablaze with his fiery riffs and solos. But Leverty is no one-trick pony, as evidenced by his new solo release, ‘Deep South.’ Instead of focusing on the arena-ready rockers that his full-time band specializes in, ‘Deep South’ is steeped in tough blues and southern rock sounds – bringing to mind such legendary names as ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and the Allman Brothers. "When you hear the songs in context, you’ll hear that this is not a typical hard rock/heavy metal album," explains Leverty. "On this one, I tried to let the music tell ME how to sound, not the other way around. There are so many different instruments on this album that I have never recorded before. This album is a chance for me to stretch out as a musician, singer, producer and engineer."
In addition to supplying guitar, Leverty also handles lead vocal duties, as well as incorporating such uncommon instruments as a guitarelele and dobro into the mix. Instead of whipping up a batch of tunes that replicate the sounds of the south, Leverty opted to go right to the source. "Most of these songs have been around for about 100 years," says Leverty. "I have a great new appreciation for the American music of the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, and I wanted to put my twist on it." Featured is the album-opening "Trouble So Hard" (of which was made popular by Moby, who sampled some of the original in his hit single, "Natural Blues"), as well as the album’s first video, "Boll Weevil," the sweet acoustic strum of "Walk Beside Me," the muscular blues rock of "Samson and Delilah," and a finger-snappin’ jazzy reading of the Ray Charles classic, "Hit the Road Jack" (which includes some impressive piano playing from Leverty, as well as vocals from his wife, Kris). Additionally, Le verty’s grandfather’s artwork adjourns the album’s front cover.
You will find yourself playing this album over and over again. It is destined to become a classic, possibly creating a new musical swath, and the CD belongs in the collection of every person who loves music, especially guitar. The album is very deep, and it seems Leverty has aptly entitled it, ‘Deep South.’

The Gaslight Anthem Fall 2009 Tour
New Brunswick, New Jersey’s The Gaslight Anthem have announced initial tour dates today for their Fall 2009 North American tour, with more cities and dates expected to be confirmed in the weeks to come.
The Gaslight Anthem have been a band for three-and-a-half years now and in that short amount of time they’ve become one of rock music’s most celebrated acts, spurring a cultish fan base with their original and heartfelt soul-inflected punk. The band recently completed a highly successful headlining tour with sold out shows across North America, including Webster Hall in New York, the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver BC, the Trocadero in Philadelphia, the Bottom Lounge in Chicago and two nights at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ. Their dynamic live show has gained further attention following standout performances at this year’s Coachella, Sasquatch and Harvest of Hope festivals. Gaslight is now set to perform at Lollapalooza and All Points West this summer and recently graced the cover of Alternative Press magazine.
Since the release of THE ’59 SOUND in August of last year, the band has received accolades from the likes of Pitchfork, NPR, SPIN and Rolling Stone, not to mention critical acclaim overseas from publications such as NME, Kerrang!, Exclaim!, VISIONS, Rock Sound, Big Cheese and Q Magazine.
Currently on tour in the UK and Europe, where they will be direct support for Social Distortion for three shows in Germany and open for Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band at Hyde Park in London on June 28th, the band will also be performing at a variety of festivals including Fuji Rock in Japan, Glastonbury, and the Reading and Leeds Festivals. The band’s Fall tour being announced today marks the band’s last headline run before they head into the studio later this year to record their follow-up to THE ’59 SOUND.
Gaslight’s headline Fall tour features Murder By Death as direct support. The lineup will be rounded out by a rotating group of great bands, including The Loved Ones, Jesse Malin, Frank Turner, Broadway Calls, and Ninja Gun.

Rhino Marks Woodstock Festival’s 40th Anniversary With A 6-CD Boxed Set
Much has been written about the significance of the Woodstock Music & Art Fair as a cultural event. Ironically, what has been least examined up to now is the very thing that brought nearly half a million together in 1969: the music itself. As the historic festival marks its 40-year anniversary, Rhino presents WOODSTOCK 40, a 78-song, six-CD collection that features the most comprehensive collection ever available of artists that performed at the original festival sequenced in chronological order of performance featuring 38 previously unreleased recordings, including The Grateful Dead, The Who, Tim Hardin, Jefferson Airplane, Country Joe & The Fish, amongst others. WOODSTOCK 40 will be available August 18, 2009.
To assemble the most comprehensive document of the myth-steeped weekend, the boxed set’s co-producer Andy Zax pored over every inch of multi-track tape in search of the strongest parts of each of the 33 sets. “The way we approached all of the material was as if it was some cinéma verité documentary—the raw record of the event,” Zax says. In addition to the music, the set offers considerable amount of ancillary material sprinkled throughout the discs—stage announcements, lysergic babble, the sounds of rain, a cameo appearance by Abbie Hoffman, and the graciousness of Max Yasgur’s address to the crowd heard for the first time in it’s entirety.
Another significant byproduct of WOODSTOCK 40 is that, by virtue of its size and rigorously chronological sequence, it gets closer to a sense of the performances as they occurred in real time than any previous compilation. For the first time, the complete and accurate set lists will be available in the boxed set’s booklet. Some Woodstock aficionados will be taken aback by the actual order of the performances, which differs from both various written accounts and from Michael Wadleigh’s film Woodstock, which takes certain liberties with chronology in order to maintain its narrative flow.
In addition to the boxed set, this past Tuesday saw Rhino reissuing the long out-of-print MUSIC FROM THE ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK AND MORE: WOODSTOCK and WOODSTOCK TWO simultaneously with Warner Home Video’s reissue of the documentary film Woodstock. Originally released in 1970 as a triple-LP, MUSIC FROM THE ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK AND MORE: WOODSTOCK topped Billboard’s pop album chart for four weeks, and was a Top 20 R&B album as well.
Following the chart-topping, multiplatinum success of the original soundtrack, 1971’s WOODSTOCK TWO served up even more peace and music. Originally released as a double-LP, it expands the listening experience with 16 additional performances. Each set was remastered from the original analog soundboard tapes from the historic
1969 concert, and feature rare photos and new liner notes.

Hit The Lights To Release Digital EP "Coast To Coast" On June 23rd * On Warped Tour All Summer
Fresh off the 2009 Alternative Press Tour, Hit The Lights will be releasing the digital only EP Coast To Coast on June 23rd. The EP features two new songs, two covers and two acoustic tracks from the bands growing catalog. Says lead singer Nick Thompson “we did this to give out fans a little something to hold them over until we drop a new record in 2010, it was a chance to try some new things. We hope everyone enjoys it as much as we enjoyed making it.”
Entering the studio this time gave the band a chance to work with some producers they have greatly admired. The track “Pulse” was recorded with Mark Trombino (Blink 182, Jimmy Eat World) and the title tracks “Coast To Coast" was done with John Feldmann (The Used, Story Of The Year). Hit The Lights also chose a few covers “Drive Onto Me” by Elliot and “Snowbirds And Townies” by Further Seems Forever. “We feel like both covers are from bands we think everyone who listens to Hit The Lights should know” says Thompson.

Warner Music Canada to Release "Love Lies" Single From Deborah Bonham, Sister of Legendary Led Zeppelin Drummer
Warner Music Canada will be servicing the Deborah Bonham single “Love Lies” to radio stations across Canada today, Tuesday, June 2, 2009. The song is taken from the British-rock singer-songwriter’s North American debut album Duchess. The album is currently available in Canada.
With thirteen soulful songs (twelve of which were written by Deborah), Duchess was co-produced by Deborah and Glen Skinner and features her ace band, made up of former Humble Pie drummer Jerry Shirley, bassist Ian Rowley, keyboardist Gerard Louis and guitarist Peter Bullick.
Former Free and Bad Company vocalist Paul Rodgers and John Bonham’s son Jason Bonham (a noted drummer in his own right) are heard on the stand-out track “Hold On” while other highlights include the bluesy “Pretty Thing,” “Duchess & the Shufflemeister,” the ballad “Love You So,” the folk-flavored “Chains” and the country-tinged “Blue” (the latter with veteran pedal steel ace BJ Cole). Also featured is “The Old Hyde Revisited,” a new, live-in-the-studio version of the title track from Bonham’s ’04 U.K. album The Old Hyde. The song is a moving tribute to her father John Henry Bonham, Sr. and brothers John and Michael, who all passed away within years of each other.
Deborah Bonham first got the urge to perform when she was six years old and saw her brother in concert with Led Zeppelin. After his untimely death in 1980, she set out to cultivate her own branch of the Bonham family tree’s musical heritage. Her U.K. debut For You And The Moon was critically praised, and a second album, The Old Hyde, followed. With Duchess, Bonham claims her standing as rock royalty and comes into her own as an artist.

GEORGE THOROGOOD & THE DESTROYERS RETURN TO CAPITOL/EMI TO UNLEASH ‘THE DIRTY DOZEN,’ A NEW ALBUM PAIRING NEW STUDIO RECORDINGS WITH FAN FAVORITES & RARITIES, ON JULY 28
Thorogood & The Destroyers to Tour to More Than 30 U.S. Cities This Summer, Including Several Co-Headlining Dates with Jonny Lang
George Thorogood & The Destroyers have returned to Capitol/EMI for the July 28 release of The Dirty Dozen, a scorching new blues-rock album pairing six new studio recordings with six classic fan favorites, including three popular tracks that were previously out-of-print in the U.S. The album will be widely available on CD and digitally, and it will also be exclusively available for purchase on vinyl LP from www.georgethorogood.com <http://www.georgethorogood.com/> and at the band’s concerts on tour.
Thorogood & The Destroyers will travel to more than 30 U.S. cities this summer on a tour that includes 22 co-headlining dates with Jonny Lang.
The Dirty Dozen features Thorogood’s signature blues-rock vocals and guitar playing on 12 songs, many of which were written by a who’s-who of American blues legends, including Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley, “Sleepy”
John Estes, Chuck Berry, Howlin’ Wolf, and Willie Dixon. The album’s new recordings and fan favorites are grouped as LP-inspired “sides.”
“I’m a big fan of vinyl,” says George Thorogood, “It’s important to me to make The Dirty Dozen available on LP, and I definitely had vinyl in mind as one of the formats for this release when we were recording the new tracks. When we started sequencing the track list, I thought it would be fun to group the songs like an LP, for all of the formats – vinyl, CD, and digital – just as they would be placed for a classic vinyl album. So the new recordings are Side One and the rare tracks are Side Two.”
Launching the new recordings on Side One of The Dirty Dozen is Willie Dixon’s swaggering “Tail Dragger,” vividly illustrated by Thorogood’s vocals and guitar, followed by his new take on John Hammond’s version of "Sleepy" John Estes’ “Drop Down Mama,” a rocking jam that’s driven by Thorogood’s muscular guitar playing. Also on Side One are Thorogood’s new recordings of Muddy Waters’ “Born Lover,” Bo Diddley’s “Let Me Pass,” “Twenty Dollar Gig,” by Mickey Bones, and The Holmes Brothers’
“Run Myself Out Of Town.”
Side Two’s fan favorites open with Thorogood’s previously out-of-print guitar and sax-propelled take on Willie Dixon and Howlin’ Wolf’s “Howlin’ For My Baby,” followed by Howlin’ Wolf’s “Highway 49,” a bona fide juke joint roof-raiser loaded with slide-laden guitar riffs. Side Two also features two other previously out-of-print tracks: Chuck Berry’
s “Hello Little Girl” and country standard “Six Days On The Road.”
“Treat Her Right” and “Blue Highway” are also included.
For more than 30 years, George Thorogood & The Destroyers have been a powerful force in blues rock music. Since releasing their self-titled debut album in 1977, they have toured and performed with many of blues’
most legendary artists, including Hound Dog Taylor, John Lee Hooker, B.B. King, Willie Dixon, Bo Diddley, Albert Collins, Johnny Johnson, John Hammond, Elvin Bishop, Eddie Shaw and Buddy Guy.
George Thorogood & The Destroyers released their self-titled debut album in 1977 and quickly established themselves as radio favorites and as a touring machine. They signed with EMI for their major label debut, 1982’
s, Bad To The Bone, and they recorded seven studio albums during their tenure with the label, departing after 1997’s Rockin’ My Life Away.
Described as “the world’s greatest bar band,” the group has had tremendous success with Thorogood’s original compositions like “You Talk Too Much,” “I Drink Alone” and of course “Bad To The Bone;” he’s also had hits with covers of iconic blues-rock songs like “Who Do You Love”
(Bo Diddley), “Move It On Over” (Hank Williams) and “One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer” (John Lee Hooker). 2004’s Greatest Hits: 30 Years Of Rock was Billboard’s #1 Blues Album in 2004 and 2005, and the band’s 12th studio album, 2006’s The Hard Stuff, hit #2 on Billboard’s Blues chart.
“It feels like a homecoming for me, to be back with Capitol/EMI for The Dirty Dozen,” says Thorogood. “This album is also a homecoming of sorts for us – it’s a real rocker, full of songs we’ve always loved playing, including some that our fans have told us they like a lot but haven’t been available for a while. We’re definitely going to be playing some of these songs on our tour. I’m ready to mix it up and crank it up, and we look forward to seeing everyone at the shows this summer.”
