Scissor Sisters guitarist, Del Marquis, Sends a Litter To Society With New Music Video!
With the release of his video for Litter To Society, Del Marquis, guitarist for Scissor Sisters, has once again combined his music with visuals that create a truly amazing multi-sensory experience.
Litter To Society is the title track and first single off Marquis’ newly released album. Directed by Embryoroom, the video flashes a constant barrage of black-and-white images across the screen as Marquis walks through different cityscapes. The internal struggle of an artist attempting to define himself in a world of distractions is evident through the scenes portrayed.
Following the recent release of his two EPs, Hothouse in December and Character Assassination in March, Litter To Society is the next step in Marquis’ exploration of dark-themed pop music, and the video continues to develop that trend.
DAN KOSUB KICKS OFF SUMMER TOUR ON CANADA DAY
On his debut album Reservoir, Canadian singer/songwriter Dan Kosub evokes an evocative pop/alternative sound, reminiscent of Matthew Sweet, James Blunt and the Barenaked Ladies. Hitting the road this summer, he will share his musical talents with audiences across the country from Toronto to Victoria kicking off on Canada Day with an intimate show at the Cameron House.
After relocating to Toronto, ON from Victoria, BC in 2006, Kosub wrote over 50 songs, including ten new tunes for his debut album Reservoir.
The album features stand out tracks "Blue & Grey" and "I’ll Never Know,"
as well as the environmentally conscious "Gone by 2040."
“Lyrically, I run the gamut of things that are a part of me; politics, social issues, stories, and of course the painfully confessional,”
explains Kosub. “Employing new writing methods make songwriting consistently fulfilling. Elliott Smith advocated searching for new ways of developing song ideas, which often leaves me more stimulated than a good idea alone.”
“Blue & Grey” the albums first single and video, deals with the upswing of seasonal affective disorder, which Kosub suffers from. “It’s about the early signs of spring that re-ignite a passion for life you forgot existed for the last six months,” he says. “The last line of the song is the most telling of where I was when I wrote it… “let in the light” … I was living alone in a dark basement apartment at the tail end of winter, going stir crazy.”
“Gone by 2040” was inspired by a CBC article about scientists speculating the polar ice caps may be melted by 2040. “Climate change is a substantial threat,” Kosub explains, “yet whenever the nightmarish scenarios are discussed I find it very surreal. The song imagines the future of this potential catastrophe as no longer an imminent threat, but an irreversible fact of day to day life.”
Kosub draws on both formal and informal musical training, having graduated in 2006 from The Canadian College of Performing Arts in Victoria, BC, where he studied performance in multiple disciplines.
While attending, he was a featured vocal soloist with the Victoria Symphony and was awarded the Bill and Margaret Bender Voice Scholarship.
“Artists that directly influence my sound are ones who are boldly dynamic and in a frequent state of reinvention;” says Kosub, “they write, produce, and perform in one vein, and then shamelessly change direction on a dime, often at the height of their popularity. When I was a kid, it was The Smashing Pumpkins, Dylan and Radiohead, these days; it’s more Springsteen and Tom Waits. That’s why my album ranges from epic to stripped down and confessional.”
Kosub is eager to get out on the road this summer to perform live and continue to work on new music. The album has full instrumentation and production; however, he will be going with a more intimate acoustic approach for the tour.
“I never get bored of performing, because I believe the work’s never done,” says Kosub, “there’s always room to grow and something new to discover, even in songs that I’ve played thousands of times.”

REPO! The Genetic Opera Witness The Phenomenon For Yourselves!
REPO! The Genetic Opera is the modern day “little engine that could.” Critics panned it, too many tried to bury it, the Razzies awarded it and THOUSANDS are clamoring for it. Icons of Fright’s Spooky Dan couldn’t help but notice the massive stir REPO! is causing globally and traveled nationwide to capture it on film in a 4 minute mini-documentary: www.iconsoffright.com/Video.html.
Ohgr, REPO!’s Pavi Largo, explains the movement as “a passion project embraced by the very audience it was meant for. Never better a turning of the screw back into a stuffed shirt mentality of forced propagandized drool. This is handmade, fan made, retribution. Pavi says ‘it’s-a perfect!’”
Throughout history, it took years for something “cult” to incubate into full fledged “phenomenon.” In today’s digital age, cyber-speed has quickened the process. Forums buzz and message boards overflow with requests for more REPO!. Independent theater chains across the country are answering fans’ pleas for more REPO!. The film once buried by critics is now being booked on the silver screen due to overwhelming fan demand. Everywhere from Salem, MA to San Jose, CA fans are launching social sites, connecting clusters of REPO! fans, and REPO! armies, armed with shadowcasts, are popping up everywhere. See attached graphic for REPO!’s summer 2009 screenings.
Spooky Dan elates, “The camaraderie amongst the fans that is unrivaled in recent history. Fans are becoming friends as strangers traveling hundreds of miles just to see a film, and along the way a family is being born. Since the tour ended the Repo Army (the fan-club) has doubled in size, and it just keeps getting bigger!”
REPO! The Genetic Opera: In the no-so-distant future, a worldwide epidemic of organ failures devastates the planet. Out of the tragedy, a savior emerges: GENECO, a biotech company that offers organ transplants…for a price. Those who miss their payments are scheduled for repossession and hunted by THE REPO MAN. By fusing ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW and BLADE RUNNER, this futuristic tale of horror modernizes the "rock opera" genre with original music and rich, dark production design.
This rock opera boasts an entirely original soundtrack that blends equal parts goth and punk rock to form an eerie and powerful musical narrative and features vocal performances by an amazing cast; Paris Hilton, Bill Moseley, Sarah Brightman, Anthony Stewart Head, Alexa Vega, Paul Sorvino, Ohgr and more. Instrumentals and score provided by an all-star lineup that features performances from Joan Jett (who cameos in the film), Richard Patrick (Filter), Stephen Perkins (Jane’s Addiction), Clown (Slipknot), Ray Luzier (Army of Anyone), Brian Young (David Lee Roth’s band), Sonny Moore (From First to Last), Richard Fortus (Guns & Roses), David J (Bauhaus/Love & Rockets), Daniel Ash (Love & Rockets), Blasko (Ozzy Osbourne), Tommy Clefetus (Rob Zombie’s band), Melora Creager (Rasputina). Also lending her voice to the soundtrack is the edgy pop star Poe.
Introducing Kate Earl EP Coming June 9th
Kate Earl.. you may or may not have heard of her but she is putting out an EP on the 9th of June on Universal Republic/Casablanca Music.
She is a very thoughtful and hardworking artist located in LA, by the way of Alaska. Some draw comparisons to Lily Allen
but she likes to lean towards artists such as Cat Power, and Feist. Her single "Melody" is available for streaming and
her entire EP can be heard at KateEarl.com.
She has loads of video blogs that she titles "Life Of Kate" where you can get to know more about this adoarable Filipino Alaskian.
Also check out this live, stripped down video of her single "Melody."
And now a few words from Kate Earl herself…
I have so many hours of dreaming logged in at my parents gas station in Chugiak, Alaska. Ring up a customer- dream,
stock the shelves-dream, mop the floors- dream, plow the snow-dream… I had spent my whole life in this remote town
asking the question “what am i gonna do with myself if i stay here?” so as soon as I had saved enough for a ticket and a guitar
I moved to LA.I needed to find out… my Dutch/Welsh father dropped out of 6th grade to survive the Great Depression
by picking cotton for bowls of beans until he lied about his age to serve during the Korean War to support his parents… he was a self
made man…he built our gas station with his own hands…he taught me to follow my bliss… my Filipino mother who left her parents
to board in another town and walked miles in the rain with a banana leaf for an umbrella to go to school, having sewed her own uniform
and cooked her meals on a little fire as a child, believed in the american dream and made a new life in alaska with greater possibilities
for her children…she taught me that wit, intuition, resolve and improvisation can go a long way…
the rest is left to fate or luck or the combustion of our individual spark.
With common sense, hard work and manual labor my upbringing at the gas station, pursuing music was a luxury,
it was not hard for me to save a lump of change and go to the city…did the Hollywood thing hittin the streets with the demo
I made at my friends house…at the time those were the only songs i had written…I mean I had played piano and sang in church
since I was yay high but I was going by the seat of my pants, figuring out my sound as I wrote…since Fate Is The Hunter
I have been developing my sound under the guidance of Tommy Mottola…
I’m in good hands, after all he is “the architect of dreams”.
THE SOUNDS Premier New Featured Album Stream, Crossing The Rubicon, on Myspace!
The Sounds manage to walk the fine line of authentic uber-rockness without ever crossing into something ridiculous. They look so cool it hurts. They’re the band you always wanted to be in." – Paper Magazine
"Sweden’s hottest export…Exultant, effervescent, an unapologetic blend of Blondie, Missing Persons, and New Order…” – Giant Magazine
Download The Sounds’ “Dorchester Hotel” mp3 here: http://download.themusebox.net/mp3/the_sounds_dorchester_hotel.mp3
Just a few short days away from the official release of their highly anticipated new album, Crossing The Rubicon, The Sounds are giving a full-album sneak preview to its Myspace fans. Rotating both on the main page of Myspace (worldwide!) and featured on the music page, The Sounds are a prime example of what can really be done with Generation Y music fans across the globe!
In the midst of a full tour with Gwen Stefani’s newly reformed No Doubt, the raw energy and electro dance beats that comes from The Sounds new album is one of epic proportions. As their music has always been quite illuminating and undoubtedly constructed quite a movement a few years ago with the like of The Killers, Bloc Party, The Bravery and other staple dance-rock bands, the Sounds’ new album takes this energy and transcends it into a new breed of dance-rock – one that refreshes the ears and cleanses the soul to breathe some much needed new life into the electro-rock sound.
THE DUDES – Blood Guts Bruises Cuts
Blood Guts Bruises Cuts may not be for the faint of heart, but as the new album title by The Dudes, ears everywhere should take notice and tune in. Out on June 2nd via LOADmusic/EMI, Blood Guts Bruises Cuts stays true to the rock and roll soul sound that has propelled The Dudes out of the Calgary independent music scene and into the national spotlight.
“The Dudes – now strikingly tight showmen with a full arsenal of future-classic rock songs up their sleeves – have set their eyes on moving beyond the local stage…a rock band capable of taking on the world at large.” – FFWD Weekly
Sharing tour stages with the likes of Pride Tiger, Two Hours Traffic and Ladyhawk, The Dudes also earned marquee status at events including JunoFest, Sled Island, and V-Fest. They’ve been voted Calgary’s favourite band of 2006, 2007, and 2008 by FFWD readers, landed prominent spots in film (‘Freezer Burn’ starring Crispin Glover and Tom Green), television (‘Heartland’, ‘House Party’), and commercial use (Rogers mp3 phone ad).
Showing enormous artistic growth, Blood Guts Bruises Cuts, produced by Jeff Dawson (Daniel Powter, State of Shock) and mixed by Mike Fraser (Franz Ferdinand, AC/DC), introduces the perfect emotional blend of Al Green and Flaming Lips – soul music and early 1990’s distortion. We just call it awesome.
“With all pistons firing, this is a leaner, meaner Dudes.” – Beatroute Magazine
Stay tuned for tour dates but in the meantime you’re lucky if you can catch The Dudes first here:

Pete Yorn & Scarlett Johansson Duet on Break Up, Available Sept 8, 2009
In 2006, critically acclaimed singer/songwriter Pete Yorn contacted actress and Atco recording artist Scarlett Johansson with the idea to record a duets album in the spirit of Serge Gainsbourg’s 1960s recordings with Brigitte Bardot. “I was having a strange week of insomnia and when I finally passed out, it came to me in a dream,” says Yorn. “I woke up and the whole thing was in my head, fully formed.” Johansson was intrigued by Yorn’s out-of-the-blue invitation. “It sounded like an interesting little adventure,” she explains. “The idea of two people vocalizing their relationship through duets.”
On September 8, Atco Records, an imprint of Rhino Entertainment, presents the resulting work, Pete Yorn & Scarlett Johansson BREAK UP, a deeply emotive yet hook-filled song cycle about a tempestuous relationship. A free stream of ‘Relator’ is available now at www.thebreakupalbum.com Prior to the release of BREAK UP, Yorn will release his fourth studio album, Back and Fourth, on June 23.
Break Up includes eight original compositions by Yorn, ranging in tone from the lilting opener “Relator” to the disarming, retro/futuristic “I Don’t Know What to Do” to the climactic “Someday.” Completing the collection is a powerful interpretation of the art-rock classic “I Am the Cosmos” by the late Chris Bell, co-founder of quintessential cult band Big Star. Produced by Sunny Levine, with Yorn and Max Goldblatt as executive producers, the album features contributions from guitarist Robert Francis; bassist Giuseppe Patane; and violinist Amir Yaghmai, with Goldblatt on banjo, synth bass and backing vocals, and Levine handling programming and mixing.
Predating Johansson’s debut album, Anywhere I Lay My Head, by nearly two years; Break Up was conceived and recorded in 2006, in Levine’s garage studio. “I always thought of it as just a small project between friends,” explains Johansson. “I’ve loved the album ever since I heard it completed. It perfectly captured where I was in my life at the time.” Yorn was as protective of Break Up as a father of his daughter, playing it for no one until last year.
When those close to him finally heard Break Up, the overwhelming response convinced Yorn that it was simply too strong a work to remain under lock and key.

Special One-Time Screening – Cineplex Theatres to Screen the 40th Anniversary of Woodstock Film in Hi-Definition Monday, June 8th
On the weekend of August 15th, 1969, an estimated 400,000 people descended on the 600-acre dairy farm in Bethel, New York, for a three-day concert billed as the Woodstock Music and Art Fair. On Monday, August 18th, each member of the Woodstock Nation melted back into their lives after witnessing legendary performances by the Who, Santana, Janis Joplin, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Joe Cocker, Sly and the Family Stone, Jimi Hendrix and, in only their second live show together, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. This musical event would become the most important rock festival of our times, defining an entire generation.
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of this historic weekend, Rhino Canada has partnered with Warner Home Video and Cineplex Entertainment for a special one night only presentation of the award winning documentary Woodstock. On Monday June 8th music fans will have a chance to watch a HD, newly remastered version of the complete four hour director’s cut at select Cineplex Entertainment theatres across Canada. Advance tickets will be on sale at participating theatres and online at www.cineplex.com <http://www.cineplex.com/> on Friday, May 29th.
“The music, artists and spirit of Woodstock resonate as strongly today as in 1969. We’re certain the film will strike a chord with those who remember, and may have even attended, Woodstock, but we also believe the music — some in extended cuts — will appeal to today’s youth generation who not only love rock music but are equally as committed now to the values surrounding Woodstock, like spirit of community, caring for the environment and idealistic change.” — Jeff Baker, WHV’s Executive VP and General Manager, Theatrical Catalog
“I think that this screening will allow people to come as close as possible to experiencing Woodstock as it was. The fact that it will be shown in HD on the big screen with great theatre sound, to me, is the best way to hear the music that changed lives.” – Ken Berry, Director Strategic Marketing Rhino Canada.
“We are pleased to partner with Rhino Canada and Warner Home Video to bring the music and spirit of Woodstock to our theatre guests across the country,” said Pat Marshall, Vice President, Communications and Investor Relations, Cineplex Entertainment. “Experiencing the concert on our big screens surrounded in digital sound is a great way for old and new fans alike to capture these historic performances and celebrate the 40th anniversary.”

LYNYRD SKYNYRD ANNOUNCE ALBUM TITLE AND RELEASE DATE
Loud & Proud/Roadrunner Records announced today the title and release date for the new album from legendary American rock outfit Lynyrd Skynyrd. God & Guns will be released on Septmber 29th. The new album features 13 tracks embodying Skynyrd’s classic sound. It was recorded in Nashville with legendary producer Bob Marlette. The first single from the album, “Still Unbroken,” will be shipping to rock radio in July, and will be accompanied by a new video, set to shoot in Nashville next month. God & Guns marks the first set of new studio material since 2003’s Vicious Cycle.
Lynyrd Skynyrd will be co-headlining the Rock Rebels Tour this summer across the U.S. with their good friend Kid Rock.
2009 marks a key point in Lynyrd Skynyrd’s storied career. The band has enjoyed continued success and visibility in the past few years including a recent Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction. Their American rock anthem “Sweet Home Alabama” has passed the 2 million mark in downloaded ringtones. Their last single, “Red White & Blue” reached #1 on the Rock Charts. Last summer, the band co-headlined one of the most successful tours of the year on their inaugural run with Kid Rock. High profile appearances, including the show closer at last year’s VH1 Fashion Rocks helped to expose the band to a younger audience. With a catalog of over 60 albums and sales beyond 30 million, Lynyrd Skynyrd remains a major cultural icon that appeals to all generations.
TANTRIC: ‘Mind Control’ Set For Release July 21
TANTRIC–Hugo Ferreira (lead vocals, keyboards), Joe Pessia (guitars), Erik Leonhardt (bass and vocals), Marcus Ratzenboeck (violin), Richie Monica (drums)–will be releasing their fourth album, MIND CONTROL, July 21 on the Silent Majority Group label (through Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group). It was produced by Brett Hestla (Creed, Framing Hanley, Dark New Day) and is the follow-up to 2008’s THE END BEGINS, which produced the Top Five Rock hit, “Down and Out.”
TANTRIC was formed from the ashes of Platinum acoustic rock band Days of the New. After scores of U.S. tours, multiple Rock hits including ”Breakdown,” “Mourning,” “Astounded,” “Hey Now,” and “Down and Out,” TANTRIC has grown into a mainstay at the Rock radio formats. While the band’s recurrent tracks continue to enjoy plenty of radio play, their fourth album, MIND CONTROL, is being greeted by early listeners as their “heaviest and hookiest” work to date. The title track—the album’s first single–will surely become, yet again, another rock radio staple. A video will hit the TV and Internet airwaves in the next few weeks.
MIND CONTROL is sure to follow in the footsteps of THE END BEGINS, which Billboard described as: “…remarkable…a well-realized blend of post-grunge rock, crafty melodies and pop finesse, sans overt commercial pandering.”
In touring news, look for the band to launch a full-scale summer tour in July. Details are forthcoming.
SPIDER ROCKETS NEW RELEASE AND TOURDATES ANNOUNCED
Crafting a sound that pushes the line between elegance and aggression, New Jersey-based Spider Rockets has completed work on a self-titled release that is a follow-up to 2007’s buzz-worthy ‘Ever After.’ Comprised of band members Helena Cos on vocals, Johnny Nap on lead guitar, Bones Hackett on bass guitar and Dan Prestup on drums, Spider Rockets has built a large and loyal fan base on the strength of a must-see live show which has seen the group open for many renowned national acts.
‘Spider Rockets’ will be released on Tuesday, May 19th digitally through iTunes (http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/stat?id=K0LAt12arp8&offerid=78941&type=3&subid=0&tmpid=1826&RD_PARM1=http%3A%2F%2Fphobos.apple.com%2FWebObjects%2FMZStore.woa%2Fwa%2FviewAlbum%3Fp%3D311439223%26s%3D143441%26partnerId%253D30), Napster, Rhapsody, emusic, Amazon, Best Buy, Puretracks, FYE and other digital portals. The same day, the group will open for Duff McKagan’s Loaded at the Gramercy Theater in NYC (the Spider Rockets’ set time is 8:00-8:30pm).
"We recorded with Eric Rachel at Trax East in New Jersey," explains Helena about the sessions that comprise ‘Spider Rockets.’ "It was pretty stressful as we knew we had a lot to accomplish and were on the clock for all of it with a lot of concentration on every instrument and each layer of sound." The result is an impressively consistent release from beginning to end, which showcases the quartet’s trademark modern rock sound that manages to be both melodic and muscular. "This one has been well planned and thought out as collaboration between the musicians and the engineer," adds Bones. "Every song can hook you in just as much as the last. I don’t feel like there is any filler content at all on this album." Johnny adds "I think the quality of the recording and the music on this CD has taken us to a new place as a band and I’m very excited about it." Dan agrees "it was a phenomenal experience working with Eric. I feel between us and him in the studio, some great stuff happe ned."
But according to Helena, there are already some new tracks that are her favorites. "I really like the chorus on the song ‘Kiss You Dead.’ It’s strong and the subject: love and hate makes it compelling. ‘Disease’ has a catchy main riff—how it starts at beginning of the song, launches into the chorus and the energy that builds up to the end. ‘Let it Go’ has a twisting, flowing feel that pulls you in—it shows a different side of us, the guitar and bass bring this song to a different place with a cool Middle Eastern vibe." Johnny adds, "yeah, I really like ‘Predator’—it has a such a hypnotic verse that propels the song really well into a driving chorus." Dan includes, "one of my favorites is ‘Everything.’ It has such a cool dark energy to it and I love the melody."
As with their past releases, the group plan to tour heavily behind ‘Spider Rockets,’ with Bones confirming that "fans can always expect a tight energetic show from us. Simply put, we are in our element when on stage." With the new album already quite an impressive accomplishment, somehow, even greater things seem in store for Spider Rockets.

2009 Panty Schmooze
The women of Toronto’s Music Industry and friends are once again joining together to hold the 7th Annual Panty Schmooze, a not-for-profit networking event to gather donations and raise money for the women and children of both Julliette’s Place and The Red Door Family Shelter.
It all began with a simple request in early 2003 from one friend to another. Women’s shelters in the GTA were in urgent need of clothing donations. When asked to clean out her closet for anything useable, Heather Ostertag, the Panty Schmooze founder, responded with "It is hard to get past a phrase like "we will accept donations of everything – even used underwear." And with this in mind…the Panty Schmooze was born.
This year’s Panty Schmooze will be hosted by John Filomena, host of Citytv’s Inside Fashion. Live performances by Canadian artists Aaron Pritchett, Divine Brown and God Made Me Funky will have attendees rockin’. Other special guests include CHUM FM’s Ingrid Schumacher, Z103.5’s Ashley Greco, and Virgin 99.9’s Taylor Kaye!
Even the smallest contribution makes each day that much easier.
Your gift of $10…is the approximate cost of the daily transportation needs of a woman in the shelter.
Your gift of $20…provides a woman and her child with 3 healthy and wholesome meals a day!
Your gift of $40…helps provide the supplies for a day of recreational programming with the children.
Your gift of $80…helps a victim of domestic violence receive one hour of specialized trauma counseling, to address the core issues of self confidence, fear and isolation.
As you can see, every dollar counts.
Join us for a great evening of entertainment, fabulous door prizes, and an opportunity to win auction and raffle items.
Venue: Palais Royale, 1601 Lakeshore Blvd., Toronto, ON
Date: Monday June 1st, 2009 5:30-8:30pm

PORCUPINE TREE SIGNS TO ROADRUNNER RECORDS
Roadrunner Records is pleased to announce the signing of British progressive rock band PORCUPINE TREE, one of the most difficult-to-categorize yet innovative bands making music today. The band’s music ranges from psychedelic trip-hop to progressive rock, and a compendium of other sounds in between. Porcupine Tree have already been a part of the international Roadrunner family; they have been signed to Roadrunner Europe since 2006 and are now transitioning to all territories outside Japan.
Senior VP of A&R for Roadrunner Monte Conner says, "Porcupine Tree have been making vital and important music for many years now but over the last few years in particular, that music has been reaching many new ears. Roadrunner hopes to not only continue that growth here in the U.S. but accelerate it and expose the world to the massive talent this band has. I am honored to welcome Steven Wilson and Porcupine Tree to the Roadrunner fold."
The band is fronted by singer/guitarist Steven Wilson, who, in addition to his critical acclaim with Porcupine Tree, is also known for his work producing other artists, such as Swedish progressive metal group (and now labelmates) Opeth and Norwegian chanteuse Anja Garbarek. Porcupine Tree have released three albums through Lava/Atlantic: In Absentia, Deadwing, and the Grammy-nominated Fear of a Blank Planet, which was recognized as "Best Surround Sound" album in 2007.
The album will contain a 50 minute long continuous song cycle, along with three additional “shorter” songs. Roadrunner plans to release the album on September 22nd. The band will embark on a U.S. tour to coincide with the album hitting stores.

Eagle Rock Receives Historical Album Of The Year Award For Albert Collins CD
The honors just keep coming for Eagle Rock Entertainment in 2009. The 30th Annual Blues Music Awards named the Albert Collins: Live at Montreux 1992 CD (released March 4, 2008) as "Historical Album Of The Year".
Held Thursday, May 7 at the Cook Convention Center in Memphis, TN, the Blues Music Awards brings together performers, industry representatives and fans to celebrate blues music and the impact it has had on American culture. Acquiring such success at this event is truly an honor, and Eagle is proud to accept this award.
"It is gratifying that the blues community understands the great work we are doing with our partner, The Montreux Jazz Festival in bringing the highest quality performance series from this esteemed festival to the home entertainment market. This award is a wonderful acknowledgement of respect to Albert Collins’ legacy in the blues world," states Mike Carden, President of Operations North America, Eagle Rock Entertainment.
This magnificent album captures the blues guitar legend giving his all to the Montreux stage. Collins, also known as "The Ice Man," spent forty years influencing a vast array of artists and guitar greats. Live at Montreux 1992, was also released with a DVD companion. Collins passed away the year after this performance was recorded.
This wasn’t the only honor that Eagle received that night. The Albert Collins DVD installment was also nominated for the "DVD Of The Year" award, along with Carlos Santana’s Carlos Santana Plays Blues at Montreux 2004 (released April 2008). Gary Moore’s Bad For You Baby (released October 2008) was up for "Rock Blues Album Of The Year".
Another addition to the label’s shining stature, Eagle has recently enjoyed success with it’s Jeff Beck Performing This Week…Live From Ronnie Scott’s DVD and Black Label Society’s Skullage CD/DVD package. Both entered the Canadian Music DVD SoundScan charts in the Top 5 (Jeff Beck Performing This Week… entered at #2 and Black Label Society Skullage at #5). Clearly, Eagle is cranking out the hits, and more success is sure to come with the releases they’ve got brewing for the summer.
The Legends Are Among Us
“If My Bloody Valentine swallowed Peter, Bjorn and John, it might sound something like this.” – QUIET COLOR
"The noise is almost overbearing, but like a Tarantino movie, it compels you to handle it for the sake of its accompanied beauty." – POPDRIVEL
Fans of My Bloody Valentine, M83, Animal Collective, Panda Bear, Stereolab and The Jesus and Mary Chain – look no further!
The man behind Stockholm-based The Legends, Johan Angergård, (Club 8, Pallers, Acid House Kings) has been known to take his audience for quite a ride. With jarring shifts in musical direction since 2003, The Legends are notorious for being resilient to change, unwilling to compromise their sound while relentlessly confusing and annoying his audience along the way.
The Legends’ forthcoming album "Over and Over,” recorded in a decrepit basement in South-Central Stockholm, marks yet a new creative turn for the band, mixing hypnotic washes of distorted synths with sweet, bouncy melodies that echo off walls of feedback and loud, shimmering guitars. Pulling influences from his own angst-driven life, the album mirrors Johan’s own personal changes and growth during the time in which it was written, starting dark and stormy and finishing with a brighter end. Combining a modern mix of white noise and vibrant melodies, “Over and Over” pulls influences ranging from the Beach Boys to 60’s girl-pop, with indie, ambient and krautrock sounds that resonate throughout the record.
The album’s first single "Seconds Away,” released this past November, was described as ‘The noisiest pop single to ever come out of Sweden’ and has already generated considerable buzz worldwide, staying at No.1 on Elbo.ws for nearly three weeks!
"Hot damn! After a couple quick listens, I can safely say that Johan a.k.a. The Legends achieved what Stephen Merritt tried and failed to do with the last Magnetic Fields record" – THE SOUND OF INDIE
While the recording process of “Over and Over” starts in a dark, black hole of noisy, angst-driven pop it gradually lets in more light, letting the last song written bear obvious signs of hope. The result is a multifaceted album well kept together by a love for mixing noise and experimental sounds with vibrant pop melodies – this is undoubtedly the strongest and most innovative Legends album to date. Take the single “Always the Same,” where you’ll hear unexpected flourishes of white noise seamlessly driven into a pure Phil Spector, with a fuzzed-out style paired with captivating, sugar-pop vocals courtesy of Liane Moccia (of the now defunct Brooklyn band Tralala).
Besides help from the obvious components like broken amplifiers, a multitude of guitar pedals, vintage synthesizers, and organs, The Legends has also teamed up with a number of other favorite musicians: Henrik of the dark electro duo Pallers adds warped keyboards to “Monday to Saturday,” while Philip trades his vocal duties in The Mary Onettes for drums on “You Won” with band-mate Karolina (Club 8) contributing her airy vocals to a number of tracks throughout “Over and Over.”
"…it comes as no surprise that the tracks are catchy as hell and the production is amazing. While one might expect sugary sweetness, the new single adds a bit of dementia" – SPACEFOOD
Changing sound from album to album is bound to be commercial suicide, but The Legends couldn’t care less. Strangely enough, that has paid off. Even though albums have ranged and changed from a mix of Motown, C-86, and synthpop to today’s noise pop and expansive production, the reason might not be so far off. There is indeed a common thread which links The Legends’ music from one album to the next- “I only follow my heart, my taste in music and write about what’s on my mind. For good or bad, my view on life and my taste in music hasn’t really changed over the years. I listened to Depeche Mode and was obsessed by death when I was 8 years old. I listened to The Smiths and was obsessed by death when I was 13. And neither has changed that much until this day.”
Where their debut “Up Against The Legends” left us, “Over and Over” quickly takes the lead and surpasses what one can hope for in an album – “It grows on you like ivy. With each subsequent listen, the album reveals more and more of itself through small, unexpected flourishes of sound that gradually accrue more than enough personality to fill the band-shaped hole” (Pitchfork). The Legends’ “Over and Over” translates vintage styles into an entirely new context that you will undoubtedly want listen to, well, over and over.
“There might not be any other way to describe the manipulated feedback involved in this track, other than something of a semi-functioning hairdryer accompanied by a coin-operated car wash vacuum cleaner, but if you can think of something fun we would be more than interested to hear it. This is beautiful noise that leaves us rather smitten." – MILKMILK LEMONADE
LOOK OUT FOR THE LEGENDS VISITING THE US THIS SPRING!
Keep a look out for Johan Angergård as he visits the US this spring. Joined by Jonas Färm (Starlet) on guitar, Martin Nordvall, (singer of The Sweet Serenades) in bass, Jonathan Hummelman, (drummer of The High Heeled Honeys) on drums, and Karolina Komstedt (vocalist of Club 8) on background vocals and percussion. One show that must not to be missed!
‘David Bowie: VH1 Storytellers’ to be released July 14 (Virgin/EMI)
David Bowie appeared on “VH1 Storytellers” on August 23, 1999, and his episode is remembered by fans as a highlight of VH1’s acclaimed performance series. On July 14, Virgin/EMI will release David Bowie: VH1 Storytellers on CD/DVD and for digital audio purchase from all major digital service providers. The CD/DVD features audio and video for Bowie’s televised performance of eight songs, plus bonus video of four performances taped during his “Storytellers” session, but not aired in the show’s original broadcast.
The digital audio release also includes the eight originally televised songs and the four bonus performances.
Featuring intimate performances accompanied by personal stories and recollections by a diverse array of top music stars, each one-hour episode of “VH1 Storytellers” takes viewers behind the scenes with a single artist or group, including Ray Davies (whose 1996 appearance launched the series), Elvis Costello, Coldplay, R.E.M., Pearl Jam and Kanye West. To date, more than 60 episodes of “VH1 Storytellers” have aired on VH1.
“We were used to dealing with legendary musicians,” says “VH1 Storytellers” Executive Producer, Bill Flanagan, in his liner notes essay for the new Bowie release. “Still, landing David Bowie was more than a big booking. There’s no way to say this without being corny: it was an honor. Bowie has a unique place in rock & roll. He is not only one of the most influential musicians of the era, he does nothing unless he is fully committed. He never phones it in.”
Flanagan continues, “Bowie’s ‘Storytellers’ was a unique theatrical event, a sort of off-Broadway ‘Evening with the Artist’ in which a great songwriter used bits and pieces from his life and career to show us all the roads leading up to a single moment, a complement to his current album but also a performance strong enough to stand on its own: a compelling introduction to David Bowie for the uninitiated and a fresh experience for the long time fan.”

Meat Puppets- "Sewn Together" garners RAVES
Thank you Jesus for the Kirkwood brothers. Sewn Together is one of the top five best albums I’ve heard so far this year and more importantly, it is yet another step in The Meat Puppets’ journey of greatness." – THE TRIPWIRE
"Sewn Together, which is a wonderfully satisfying work. Somehow, it all does get sewn together in a mix of styles that’s both head-spinning and earthily rocking." – LA WEEKLY
"Sewn Together is reminiscent of the glory days of the Meat Puppets." – FILTER
" 3 1/2 Stars… The interplay of Curt’s drowsy vocals and freaky guitar can still induce vertiginous spells — witness the dreamy yet insistent "Blanket of Weeds" — while the snappy "Love Mountain" reveals the clever pop craftsman behind his woozy persona." – SPIN
"Sewn Together’s songs demonstrate that the once purveyors of grunge are still adept songwriters." – AOL SPINNER
"The number of ingredients found in a Meat Puppets record is impressive, but the way the band blends those pieces is what’s truly astonishing. At its best, Arizona’s Meat Puppets makes you think there are no boundaries between punk, country, and pop. The appropriately named "Sewn Together" finds Curt Kirkwood and his brother Cris Kirkwood crafting mongrel music as fine as anything in the band’s catalog." – BOSTON GLOBE
Everyone from Nirvana to Pavement to Stone Temple Pilots cite Meat Puppets as one of the most significant American bands.
The highly influential Meat Puppets started as a punk rock band, but established their own unique style, blending punk with country and psychedelic rock. Meat Puppets later gained significant exposure when the Kirkwood brothers served as guest musicians on Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged performance in 1993. The band’s subsequent album Too High to Die went gold, selling over 500,000 albums, and became their most successful release. The band reunited in 2006.
Recorded at The Saltmine in Phoenix, Arizona in winter 2009, the album features the Kirkwood brothers, Cris and Curt, with drummer Ted Marcus.

AUTHOR GREG PRATO’S NEW ROCK BOOK!
In addition to being the author of three well-received books (2008’s ‘A Devil on One Shoulder and an Angel on the Other: The Story of Shannon Hoon and Blind Melon’ and ‘Touched By Magic: The Tommy Bolin Story,’ plus 2009’s ‘Grunge is Dead: The Oral History of Seattle Rock Music’), writer Greg Prato also regularly contributes to several websites and magazines. His latest book, ‘No Schlock…Just Rock!’ (released through Lulu.com) collects most of Greg’s writing for the UK-based mags Classic Rock, Guitarist, Metal Hammer, and Record Collector, between a five-year span (2003-2008).
Separated into three sections according to genre – "Classic Rock," "Heavy Metal," and "Punk/Alt-Rock" – the 276-page book includes features that cover the entire histories of some of Greg’s favorite bands – Faith No More, Bad Brains, Soundgarden, the Meat Puppets, the Raspberries, and the no-holds-barred tale of G.G. Allin. Also included are articles/interviews on Rush, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Steely Dan, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Cheap Trick, the Ramones, and Queens of the Stone Age, among many other fascinating rock n’ rollers (even William Shatner!). You’ll also find the three articles that eventually led to Greg’s Melon, Bolin, and Grunge books.
‘No Schlock…Just Rock!’ is the next best thing to experiencing live rock n’ roll – minus getting fleeced for parking, unsanitary restrooms, and having some drunk nudnik screaming in your ear. Or as the author suggests in the book’s foreword, "Kick back, relax, adjust your iPod to the appropriate artist, read on, and most importantly…LONG LIVE ROCK N’ ROLL!!!"

Now, for the first time, in a beautifully packaged 4-DVD boxed set, the highly successful crime drama comes to home video. B.B. King/Live At Montreux 1993/Blu-ray & DVD
Perhaps the greatest living bluesman, B.B. King was 68 when he appeared at Montreux in 1993 to wow the faithful. And he didn’t disappoint. Both DVD and Blu-ray contain his classic 16-song set. The Blu-ray has an exclusive three-song bonus ("Why I Sing The Blues," "When Love Comes To Town," and "Guess Who") from his Montreux appearance 13 years later in 2006 at the age of 81.
Deep Purple/History, Hits & Highlights/2DVD
A double-disc of dynamic proportions, as this most classic of Hard Rock bands kicks out the jams from across the broad spectrum of its career. Following the release of frontman Ian Gillan’s new studio album One Eye To Morocco (March 31 – Eagle Records), this set goes back to his and Deep Purple’s roots and best moments. Getting their start in the late ’60s, this heavy rock band has had a fantastic career, and this 2DVD highlights some of their most memorable moments.
Ted Nugent/Motor City Mayhem/DVD, Blu-ray & 2CD
Ted Nugent’s one dangerous character, especially when he has a guitar in his hands! In fact, he’s been bringing his raucous brand of Rock ‘N’ Roll to the worldwide masses for 40 years. On July 4, 2008, he celebrated his 6,000th show at the DTE Energy Music Centre in Detroit. This Motor City homecoming, with over 20 thousand fans in attendance, was so bombastic that it needs to be released on three formats! Look for this powerhouse show to be released on CD, DVD, and Blu-ray.
John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers & Friends/The 70th Birthday Concert/Blu-ray
When legendary British bluesman John Mayall throws a party, you just know the guestlist is going to be something special! Released for the first time on Blu-ray, this Liverpool, England event garnered international attention, constituting the much-anticipated reunion of Mayall and his former lead guitarist Eric Clapton. Rolling Stone Mick Taylor joined the party and trombonist Chris Barber brought the house down! It doesn’t get much better than this: the entire two and a half hour show…now presented in the stunningly-precise Blu-ray format.
Black Crowes/Warpaint Live/DVD
Filmed last March at The Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles, Warpaint Live (17 songs in 103 minutes) proves once again that the Black Crowes are one of the all-time great live rock bands (check out past Eagle Rock releases Freak ‘N’ Roll…Into The Fog and The Robinson Brothers’ Live at the Roxy). Performing the entire Warpaint album, as well as past BC nuggets and previously-unreleased covers (including the Rolling Stones’ "Torn And Frayed"), the Robinson brothers are at their best.
Rory Gallagher/Crest of a Wave: The Best Of Rory Gallagher/2CD
Rory Gallagher (1948-1995) is remembered most for the searing lead guitar lines he burned on stages all over the world. This 2CD (following the release of the Live in Cork DVD on March 17) features material culled from the blues-rock master’s greatest albums, with some live material thrown in. Be it blues or rock, this is a fond remembrance of an artist who was cut down way too early.
Jamiroquai/Live At Montreux 2007/Blu-ray
Call it funk, disco, acid jazz, soul, pop, electronic or rock, Great Britain’s Jamiroquai is definitely an eclectic entity that can rouse up any crowd at any time. The Grammy-Award winning innovators hit the scene in 1996, when their debut Travelling Without Moving sold over 2.5 million copies. This diverse group, fronted by soul-infused vocalist Jason "Jay" Kay, hit up Montreux in 2007, and added a much different flavor to the jazz festival. Originally released on DVD in October 2007, fans will soon be able to enjoy this uninhibited set of joyous grooves in the Blu-ray format.
Tracey Ullman/Tracey Takes On…/3DVD
The one-woman comedic dynamo and eight-time Emmy Award-winner takes on a number of subjects and celebrities in her HBO series, Tracey Takes On… This boxed set of laughs includes her final two seasons. Guest stars include Hugh Laurie, Julie Kavner, Cheech Marin, Michael McKean, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Corbin Bernsen and more.
Black Crowes/Warpaint Live/Blu-ray
Having been released as a 2CD set on April 28 and out on DVD June 30, the stunning Warpaint Live concert will be available to experience with all the visual attention-to-detail that only Blu-ray can provide.
Jethro Tull/Living With The Past/DVD-CD & CD
There is no mistaking the Jethro Tull sound. Their eclectic blend of rock, folk, and wild flute improvisation has made them a staple in the classic rock circuit. Look for another fantastic live performance by the group (following other Eagle-released material such as the Live at Montreux 2003 CD and DVD and Jack In The Green DVD) to hit stores this summer.
Quincy Jones/A 75th Birthday Celebration/2DVD & Blu Ray
Quincy Jones is undeniably one of the most prolific creative forces that has ever graced the art of recorded music. An acclaimed arranger, producer, composer, and bandleader, Jones has worked in the realms of R&B, soul, gospel, and classical music. It is only appropriate that this 75th birthday should be a celebration of the amazing works that he has composed and the artists he has nurtured. Featuring performances by Herbie Hancock, Al Jarreau, Chaka Khan, Lee Ritenour and many others, this is a 2DVD and Blu-ray set not be missed.
Gary Moore/Essential Montreux/5CD
Gary Moore has been busting out some mean rockin’ blues and boogie in a career that dates back to the 1960s. After his days in Thin Lizzy, he established a stellar solo career, and has left his mark on the Montreux stage several times. Pulled from five separate appearances at the acclaimed festival (1990, 1995, 1997, 1999, and 2001), this 5CD boxed set, with 6 hours of material, captures the magnitude, the riffage and the majesty of this most revered lead guitarist.
THE MOODY BLUES: LIVE AT THE ISLE OF WIGHT FESTIVAL On DVD May 26
Eagle Vision, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Eagle Rock Entertainment, will release The Moody Blues: Live At The Isle Of Wight Festival 1970 on DVD for the first time on May 26.
This is the legendary much talked-about 79-minute 11-song performance, where The Moody Blues-at the height of their popularity and creativity-totally entranced the hippie audience on a hot night in August off the coast of England. Bonus material includes a 20-minute documentary keying in on the behind-the-scenes machinations that took place before, during and after this remarkable event.
This historic Classic Rock set stands complete and unexpurgated as performed by guitarist/vocalist Justin Hayward, bassist/vocalist John Lodge, vocalist/flutist Ray Thomas, drummer Graeme Edge and keyboardist/vocalist Mike Pinder. Touring in support of A Question Of Balance album, The Moody Blues, at this point in time, had had four albums all in the Top 5 U.K. (with two #1’s). The audience on this night topped half a million. It was an era that will never be duplicated.
This is one of the most indelible, groundbreaking and iconic live performances of the Classic Rock era. The Isle Of Wight Festival itself is one of the most cherished fests in rock history. It debuted in 1968, continues today, and is most famous for its 1970 lineup that included ELP, Tull, Hendrix, Baez, Kristofferson, Miles, Sly, The Doors, The Who, Moodies and more. The Moody Blues: Live At The Isle Of Wight Festival 1970 has been heard but not seen. Until now…when it all comes stunningly alive on this DVD.

THE BLACK CROWES: WARPAINT LIVE
~2CD Set Out Now; DVD & Blu-ray In June/July~
Specializing in a free-spirited, blues-infused form of rock ‘n’ roll, The Black Crowes are an essential piece of rock music history. Eagle Rock Entertainment is proud to announce the release of Warpaint Live on DVD (June 30) and Blu-ray (July 14); currently available is the Warpaint Live 2CD set from the rock luminaries, released May 5 on Eagle Records.
After ten years of touring around the world and 20 million records sold, The Black Crowes took a five year hiatus. In 2005 the band re-united and re-ignited. Three years later, they released Warpaint, their first new studio album in seven years. Warpaint Live is a celebration of this new album, performed before a sold-out Los Angeles crowd. The first live Black Crowes release since 2006’s critically acclaimed Freak ‘n’ Roll…Into The Fog CD and DVD (Eagle Rock), they took this fresh work of art and allowed fans to experience this new album in its entirety live, with extended versions of the Warpaint tracks. Throwing in a few classic songs, such as "Bad Luck Blue Eyes Goodbye", as well as some previously unreleased covers, The Black Crowes deliver, proving that they are one of the most powerful and best live rock ‘n’ roll acts around.

George Harrison – ‘Let It Roll: Songs by George Harrison’ Tracklist Confirmed
Capitol/EMI confirms the tracklist for George Harrison’s first-ever career-spanning solo hits collection, Let It Roll: Songs by George Harrison. To be released June 16 (June 15 internationally), the CD’s special packaging includes a 28-page booklet featuring previously unseen and rare photos, and newly-written liner notes by Warren Zanes. The collection’s 19 tracks have been digitally remastered by Giles Martin at EMI’s Abbey Road Studios, and will be available in CD and digital formats.
“Let It Roll: Songs by George Harrison is a gathering of material that takes us far into the territory that was ultimately a place unique to George Harrison,” writes Warren Zanes in his liner notes essay for the new collection.
This collection is the first to span Harrison’s entire solo recording career, including the #1 Billboard Pop singles “My Sweet Lord,” “Isn’t It A Pity,” “Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth),” and “Got My Mind Set On You." Let It Roll also features live recordings of three timeless Harrison-penned Beatles songs, “Something,” “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” and “Here Comes The Sun,” from his 1971 all-star Concert For Bangladesh benefit at Madison Square Garden.
“The keyhole into the world of George Harrison is the music itself. Yet his songs and the accomplishments for which he’s remembered are inextricably bound—and those accomplishments are, without question, eclectic in scope,” Zanes writes.
George Harrison is a twice-inducted member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as a solo artist and as a member of The Beatles, and an 11-time Grammy Award winner for his recordings with The Beatles, Traveling Wilburys, and as a solo artist. On April 14, Harrison was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles.

KANSAS VETS LAUNCH NATIVE WINDOW DEBUT ALBUM
Longtime Kansas fans may have a hard time dealing with the fact that the group’s two main songwriters, Steve Walsh (singer/keyboards/synths) and Kerry Livgren (guitar/ keyboards/synths) have stated that they are done writing any more album worth’s of new material for the group. But it’s time to rejoice, as Native Window – which is essentially Kansas minus Walsh – will certainly help fill this void, with a self-titled debut, issued June 23rd via StarCity Records (run by Jeff Glixman, who produced some of Kansas best-selling releases).
"It was a bit presumptuous of us to assume we could write a whole CD of music, considering we did not have song one when we started," explains Kansas/Native Window drummer, Phil Ehart. "We wrote songs ourselves, collaborated with other writers, and even found some outside songs."
"Without Steve singing, without keyboards, it is fundamentally different from Kansas right out of the box," adds guitarist Richard Williams. "A conscious effort was made to not sound like, write like, or emulate anything Kansas would do. Kansas already does that just fine."
Produced by Steve Rawls and Native Window, and recorded at Real 2 Reel Studios over a two-year span, the ‘new’ group (which is comprised of Ehart and Williams, plus singer/bassist Billy Greer, and violinist David Ragsdale) has picked up where Kansas left off musically, especially after judging from the melodic rock anthems heard throughout the disc. And all this happened despite the band members being entirely uncertain what the material would ultimately sound like. "That was the exciting part…we had no idea what it would sound like! We had one criteria – the song had to sound good acoustically. If it sounded good with just acoustic guitar and vocals, then we developed it from there."
Questions also arose regarding the group’s vocal and lyrical makeup, but once again, everything fell nicely into place. "We could all carry a tune and sing in pitch, but could we actually sound good together? It took some work to get over the hump of singing harmonies, but once we did, you couldn’t shut us up! The lyrics were a total group effort. Someone would have a title, a one liner, a chorus, and the lyrics just sprung from there. Sometimes Billy would have a bunch of lyrical ideas, and we’d brainstorm from there."
When asked to pick a favorite track of the album, Ragsdale ran into some difficulty limiting it to just one. "All of them, and why not? Seriously, though, I really like the mood of ‘Miss Me’, and how it develops and returns. ‘Blood In the Water’ makes me grin a bit as well." Greer offered his own praise about the project, as well. "The writing and recording process on this project was more rewarding and fun than any I have been involved in a very long time. Vocally, this was one of the most challenging and rewarding CD’s I have ever recorded!"
The day after ‘Native Window’ arrives, the group will be appearing on the renowned nationally syndicated radio show, Rockline – on Wednesday, June 24th – followed by a summer’s worth of tour dates, opening up for…Kansas! And for those who wonder how the launching of Native Window sits with the only missing member of Kansas, Ehart is willing to put any speculation to rest. "Steve has been very supportive of Native Window since it’s inception. He has wished us the best since day one."

The Audition Self-Titled Album Out Now
The Audition are from Chicago and just released their new record this week, "Self-Titled Album." They have been on tour with the likes of Plain White T’s, Spitalfield, The Academy Is, Jack’s Mannequin, 30 Seconds To Mars, and Boys Like Girls. They were even featured on MTV’s TRL when MTV played music videos. Remember that? This record was produced by Mark Trombino (JIMMY EAT WORLD, BLINK 182). No frills, no fakery, just rock ‘n’ roll. Chock full of those familiar sing-along choruses and rear-shaking riffs, the album ranges from fast-paced dance-pop with uncontrollable hooks like those in “My Temperature’s Rising” to lyrically intense and mellow as heard in “It’s Gonna Be Hard (When I’m Gone)” “These songs are fun and catchy, but not contrived or predictable,” says O’Connor. His statement holds true as every song on the album gives off an entirely different vibe, merging only to create the magical melting pot that is Self-Titled Album. Following suit to those bands whose third albums shaped their entire career, THE AUDITION are poised and ready to kick it up a notch. O’Conner adds, “We love music above all things in this world. We have never forgotten why we started doing this and will never forget why we still do it every day. We have been a band for four years and the ‘honeymoon’ isn’t over yet…” It’s only the beginning.

Grateful Dead offshoot project the Rhythm Devils release DVD
COME ON A MAGICAL JOURNEY WITH THE RHYTHM DEVILS’ ‘CONCERT EXPERIENCE,’ AS THIS EXPERIENCE IS UNLIKE ANY OTHER CONCERT.
Certainly one of the more intriguing Grateful Dead offshoot projects is the Rhythm Devils. Led by long-time Dead drummers Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart, the duo enlisted Phish bassist Mike Gordon into their ranks in 2006 (rounding out the line-up are also guitarist Steve Kimock, percussionist Sikiru Adepoju and former Deep Banana Blackout vocalist Jen Durkin), and recently issued their first-ever DVD, ‘Concert Experience.’ Directed by Jeff Glixman and Jim Gentile, ‘Concert Experience’ is a two-DVD set (and 24 page hardcover book) – disc one features concert footage from Chicago, Illinois, and Sayerville, New Jersey recorded in October 2006, featuring all original compositions with lyrics by Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter. Each song is represented visually with graphics, images, and effects that complement the music – a collection of ‘video vignettes,’ if you will. Disc two features behind the scenes interviews, soundcheck footage, and excerpts from various live concer ts.
Starting in the mid-to-late 1970s, and continuing until the Grateful Dead’s last concert in 1995, most Grateful Dead concerts featured an extended segment during the second set of improvisational drumming and percussion by Hart and Kreutzmann who took over the stage as a duo (with occasional guests). This segment was variously known to fans as "Rhythm Devils," "Drums," or conversationally as "The Drums." It was usually followed in post-1979 concerts by another extended improvisation by the rest of the band, usually without the drummers, which was known as "Space." The "Rhythm Devils" segment of a Grateful Dead concert almost always segued out of a full-band song, and the "Space" segment almost invariably would segue into the beginnings of another full-band song as the drummers resumed their thrones with the rest of the band.
This first run of ‘Concert Experience’ DVDs comes with a free download card for one credit, and the audio is available on fizzkicks.com/rhythmdevils. Via this link you can stream full audio, and download the track you want. The rest of the album is available for download, as well. Describing the concert experience as a "72 minute magic carpet ride through time and space," Glixman mixed the performance in 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound at the StarCity Recording Studios in Bethlehem, PA. Now fans will be able to soak up the full ‘Concert Experience’ of the Rhythm Devils, in the comfort of their own homes. "It is an experience," says Hart about ‘Concert Experience.’ "Hopefully it will take you to some kind of a place that will create some kind of good, and you will do some good things with the energy that you would get from being part of that experience. When I look at it, I smile; it makes me feel good and it is uplifting. That is what I would hope you take from it."

THE HOOTERS TO DOMINATE THE SUMMER 2009 LIVE MUSIC SCENE WITH THE RELEASE OF "BOTH SIDES LIVE"
The Hooters are poised to dominate the summer 2009 live-music scene with the release of their first internationally available double-live CD. Both Sides Live will be available for sale in the US on July 21st, 2009 with distribution by Megaforce. Internationally, the CD will be released this week.
Since last years critically acclaimed release, Time Stands Still, demand for more music from this well loved band remains high. This new collection, Both Sides Live, creatively combined the demand for a new release, the penchant to hear some of the old songs and the fans enthusiastic appetite for high-end live recordings both acoustic and electric. Both Sides Live offers inspired live performances of The Hooters best known songs including break-through tracks, ‘And We Danced’, ‘The Boys of Summer’, ‘All You Zombies’ and ‘I’m Alive.’
“Recording these shows was a labor of love, as they say,” comments Eric Bazilian, “We loved doing both sets, showcasing all of the many layers of the Hooters and really, both experiences were so different. The acoustic set was such an intimate experience with the fans, very emotional and the electric set was just so much fun. I think fans are going to love both CDs played right next to each other!”
“Our friend, violinist Ann Marie Calhoun, came down to play with us and it just added another dimension to what we were trying to accomplish with the shows. The Hooters have always been about great songwriting, great live performances and lots of surprises and Both Sides Live delivers on all fronts.” Adds Rob Hyman.
Produced by Eric Bazilian and Rob Hyman, with technical assistance from Rick Chertoff and Paul Hammond, Both Sides Live showcases the band’s heart-of-a-nation charisma and is a side-by-side presentation of The Hooters live onstage, and live in an intimate studio setting. The release of Both Sides Live will see the band take hold of old and new fans alike.
Upon opening the CD, fans will be happy to see the two discs sitting side by side:
Disc One, ‘The Electric Factory’ captures the joyful energy of the band’s two sold-out shows, at Philadelphia’s legendary Electric Factory. Introduced to the crowd by Philly’s own beloved DJ, WMMR’s Pierre Robert, as ‘musical treasures’ and ‘roving ambassadors’, the band treats the crowd to high-energy sets of its best-known songs.
Disc Two, ‘The Secret Sessions (Acoustic)’ captures a moment in time, the band gathered in the studio to record an intimate acoustic concert, as an overview of their music, for a few close friends and associates. Michael Tearson of Sirius Radio describes the feeling of this special live studio performance as ‘warm, exhilarating and downright excellent’.
Both Sides Live boasts the dense, musically adventurous sound that has made The Hooters a staple of the east-coast rock scene. The Hooters create a style of music that can withstand the passage of time and maintains its relevancy through the sheer simplicity of superior craftsmanship.
With the emphasis on the juxtaposition of the live vs. the acoustic, Both Sides Live is a nostalgic shot through the heart. Iconic tracks such as ‘And We Danced’, and ‘The Boys of Summer’ are spirited pop excursions, and the musical gem ‘‘All You Zombies’ brings listeners back to the summer of 1985 when the band first performed the song for thousands of fans at the historic Philadelphia LIVE AID Concert.
The release of Both Sides Live will lay the groundwork for a string of tour dates, both in the US and across parts of Europe. The Hooters On Tour will include the sixth annual open-air concert at Heide-Park in Soltau, Germany on September 5th, 2009. Additional US tour markets will be announced soon.
“…. unlike some artists who think staying relevant means running from what makes you unique, The Hooters weren’t afraid to make use of what they do best.” The NY Daily News
“… with their patented (and oft imitated) mix of town and country flavors, with beautifully finessed song constructions and rootsy, folksy sonic textures (spunky mandolin, swirling keyboards, exploding guitar lines).“ Philadelphia Daily News
GENIE ORIGINAL SONG WINNER DR SHIVA PLANS AMAL SOUNDTRACK
“I am extremely honoured, being the first Indian Canadian Composer to receive this prestigious award,” Dr. Shiva says “it’s indescribable to be recognized in this way.” Music composer, writer, director, conductor and singer, Ramier Siva-Nandan (Dr. Shiva) has been fascinated by films and music since childhood and had his dreams come true, with the 2009 Genie Award for Best Original Song for “Rahi Nagufta” from the film AMAL.
Those involved in the film were not prepared for the demand as the limited dvd release in January 2009 through Amazon and Chapters sold out the first day and a soundtrack album for the film is now in the works due to the demand and response to the music, specifically the featured song. Both the DVD of Amal and the soundtrack album will be commercially released very soon. The soundtrack album will include some of the best tracks from the feature and the short version of the film, in addition to the Genie award winning song.
Dr. Shiva was asked by Toronto director Richie Mehta to score the feature version of Amal which originally was a short film released in 2004. “The film had a compelling storyline and tremendous potential for a music score,” explains Dr. Shiva who also has an acting part in the film. The feature length film Amal shot in New Delhi, India in 2006 premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival 2007 and went on to win over 20 international awards at major film festivals.
Amal was nominated for six 2009 Genie Awards including Best Motion Picture, Achievement in Direction, Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role (Rupinder Nagra), Adapted Screenplay, Achievement in Overall Sound and the Achievement in Music Original Song in which Dr. Shiva won. The Genie Awards are presented by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television and are often called the Canadian Oscar Awards.
“The song is from a genre of music called "Ghazal" a 12th century style of singing,” Dr. Shiva explains, “it was written by a 18th century poet called Mir Taki Mir and I chose it since it was the most appropriate song for the character of G K Jayaram in the film played by Naseeruddin Shah, so I composed and sung it to suit his character.” Dr. Shiva adds that “the rest of the films music is into three genres namely the classical Indian music for the old characters, folk Indian music pertaining to the north for the main character and his pals and western music.”

Original Creed Line-up Plan Summer Tour & New Album
Creed, one of the most successful rock bands of the past decade, has announced all four of the original band members are back together for a summer tour and new album. Since their formation, Creed has sold close to thirty-five million albums and millions of concert tickets.
The songwriting team of Stapp and Tremonti are considered one of the most prolific in rock history. Their collaborations delivered numerous chart-topping records that are a testament to the enormity and success of Creed. The band was the first act to have seven consecutive number one rock radio singles, four of which came off of the debut album. Their third album, Weathered, tied The Beatles Anthology, for the most consecutive weeks at Number One on Billboard’s Top 200 chart (eight weeks since the beginning of the SoundScan era (1991).
The band’s debut, My Own Prison, was released on August 26, 1997 and has sold over six million copies in the U.S. The follow-up, Human Clay, was distributed on September 28, 1999 and certified Diamond for sales in excess of 11 million copies. The band’s last studio album, Weathered, was released on November 20, 2001 and sold six million plus. In November 2004, Creed Greatest Hits was released, and has sold two million copies. The band was voted Favorite Group in 2003 on the People’s Choice Awards and won numerous American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards and others including the Grammy Award for best Rock Song in 2001 for “With Arms Wide Open.”
On reuniting, guitarist Mark Tremonti stated, “We’re all very excited to reconnect with our fans and each other after six long years." Drummer Scott Phillips added, “Our career as Creed came to a very abrupt and unforeseen ending. After reflecting on some of the greatest personal and professional moments of our lives, we’ve come to realize that we are still very capable of continuing that career and our friendship on a grander scale than ever before." Bassist Brian Marshall continues, “This is a development we are all happy about. It has been a long time since the four of us have taken the stage together, and without hesitation or reservation this is something all of us are in to. The anticipation to get back out there is electrifying. Singer Scott Stapp concluded, “Its amazing how life can change and bring you full circle. Time gave us all a chance to reflect, grow and gain a deeper appreciation of our friendships, artistic chemistry, passion for music, and sincere love for our fans! It’s rare in life to get a second chance to make a first impression and we embrace the opportunity. We all believe the BEST IS YET TO COME!”
The band has also teamed with I Love All Access to provide a variety of VIP ticket packages for the tour, including premium seats, meet and greets, photo ops, parties and more. For more information visit www.ILoveAllAccess.com .

KANSAS TO CELEBRATE 35TH ANNIVERSARY WITH LIVE SYMPHONIC DVD AND TOUR
All these years later, Kansas still rule the classic rock radio airwaves, and continue to put on simply spellbinding shows of the highest caliber. And what better way to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the release of Kansas’ self-titled 1974 debut than with a live DVD, ‘There’s Know Place Like Home,’ which will be released on August 4th. A hi-def for Blu-ray release (mixed in 5.1 surround sound), the show was filmed on February 7th of this year in their home state (at Washburn University’s White Concert Hall), and was certainly not your average affair. For this show, the group – which includes singer/keyboardist Steve Walsh, guitarist Rich Williams, violinist David Ragsdale, bassist Billy Greer, and drummer Phil Ehart – was united with former members Kerry Livgren (guitar/keyboards) and Steve Morse (guitar), as well as the 50-piece Washburn University Orchestra.
When asked how it was to play alongside an orchestra, Ehart responds, "It’s always an adventure. Adding another 50 people to your ‘band’ can always prove eventful. Our biggest memories are usually of certain symphonies that look down their noses at our music. What’s funny about this is that those symphonies are usually the ones that have the most trouble playing our scores!" And when the topic of playing with Livgren and Morse comes up, Williams gets downright philosophical. "Very comfortable…like loose fitting underwear." Comprised of a solid track listing that includes fine renditions of Kansas classics ("Dust in the Wind," "Carry On Wayward Son," etc.) and fan favorites ("Hold On," "On the Other Side," etc.), ‘There’s Know Place Like Home’ will surely go down as one of the group’s best-ever live performances.
In addition to the DVD’s release, Kansas will appear on the popular syndicated radio show, Rockline, on Wednesday, August 5th, from 11:30pm to 1:00am. The group will also be supporting the DVD’s release with a summer’s worth of tour dates. And if that wasn’t enough, Kansas’ members (save Walsh) are preparing the debut release of their new side band, Native Window, which will issue their self-titled album on June 23rd, and "open" for Kansas on the summer tour. And as far as Kansas’ popularity, it continues to flourish, as their classic ballad, "Dust in the Wind" recently obtained gold status as a digital download, while their classic rocker, "Carry On Wayward Son," is featured on the games ‘Guitar Hero II’ and ‘Rock Band II.’ "They still get a lot of attention, still get a lot of airplay," says Williams about the enduring popularity of Kansas’ songs. "They have retained a relevance through the years, that only a small percent of recordings do." With the release of ‘There’s Kn ow Place Like Home’ and the supporting tour, Kansas will prove this theory as fact once again this summer.
KANSAS Tour dates with Native Window for 2009:
06/13/09 Joplin MO Landreth Park
07/24/09 Merced CA Fair
08/23/09 Rochester, MN Mayo Civic Center

ORANGE SKY CONFIRMED TO ROCK WITH KING’S X, IN SUPPORT OF LATEST RELEASE, ‘DAT IZ VOODOO’
Port of Spain, Trinidad may not be the first city music fans think of when the discussion of ‘hot rockspots’ comes up. But if the sophomore effort from Orange Sky, ‘Dat Iz Voodoo,’ is a representation of the local talent, it may soon join the likes of New York, Seattle, and London, as the group (which is comprised of singer/lead guitarist Nigel Rojas, rhythm guitarist Joel Beazer, bassist Nicholas Rojas, keyboardist Richard Hall, and drummer Obasi Springer) will be opening up a string of Texas dates with metal legends King’s X. "We have always loved King’s X, some of us since the early ’90s,” says Rojas. “We did one opening slot for them last year, in Kentucky, and got to meet Doug and the guys personally. They put on an incredible live show and we are honored to be able to share the stage with them."
The style that Orange Sky specialize in is quite varied…yet rocking. Perhaps a fan once gave the group the highest compliment, by gushing, “You guys sound and perform like if the Wailers and Black Sabbath had a baby.” “I call our sound ‘rock and roll’,” says Nigel. “We emulate everything – hard rock, soft rock, punk, reggae, and metal, so I think the term rock and roll covers all these styles, and does not create an expectation from the potential listener of us being too metal, too reggae, too hard, or too soft. Our overall style offers all these soundscapes, colors, and emotions.”
‘Dat Iz Voodoo,’ released via StarCity Records, represents a rebirth of sorts for Orange Sky, and proves that the group’s critically acclaimed debut, 2006’s ‘Upstairs,’ was no fluke. Case in point, the album-opening riff monger “Yesterdays and Tomorrows,” the thrashy “Psycho World,” the industrial-strength reggae-rock of “Is There Anybody There?” (which is a barely recognizable cover of a Scorpions song), and the crunching funk-metal riffs of “Dark Room.” But there is one song specifically that stands out for Nigel. “I would say ‘Alone,’ because it is a blast from the past – we all like to think of it as a song we could share on the radio.” A dozen songs in all, guaranteed to get fists pumping and moshpits swirling – with a couple of lighters-in-the-air/arm-around-your-girl moments in between.
And while ‘Dat Iz Voodoo’ is a fine stylistic showcase for the group, the quintet promises fans that they will take it to the next level on the album’s ensuing tour. “Orange Sky live is one hell of a bad ass, fist pumping, heart melting, hilarious, thought provoking assault on the nervous system! Within an hour, our show will turn everyone exposed to us into our new friends and future Orange Sky seed sowers. Sounds arrogant? Not intended, just what we know what we are capable of – ask anyone who has been there. We seriously rock!”
