Brian Wilson

That Lucky Old Sun (DVD)

2009, Capitol Records

Rating: 4/5

Founding Beach Boy, Brian Wilson returned to Capitol Records this past year to record and release THAT LUCKY OLD SUN to high praise from both fans and critics. This DVD documents his return to his former label with a live in studio performance of the album recorded in May of last year.

Backed by an assortment of musicians Brian performs the new album in it’s entirety with the utmost perfection. His voice hasn’t lost any of its charm or character over the years and he still sounds amazing. Once you hear the new album or this DVD you cannot deny the fact that he was the major factor in The Beach Boys’ sound. With songs like “Going Home” and the title track you cannot help but be brought into the Southern California world of surf, sand and sun.

The bonus documentary; “Going Home” and the additional material such as behind the scenes give the viewer a better insight and a glimpse of the man, the legend that is Brian Wilson.

An excellent release for any and all fans of Brian’s work both solo and with The Beach Boys. This is easily his strongest release in many years and hopefully a sign of things to come.
