Nashville Pussy has recently released their new album titled FROM HELL TO TEXAS and when I woke up this particular morning on the day of the show it really felt like I was in hell. At least if hell is an extreme amount of snow combined with hazardous northern winds that do their best to torture the crap out of you if you even dare to think about putting your nose outside the door. Well, the day could only get better and it sure did. It has been a  long time ago since I last saw the band live on stage and my expectations were really high. Supersuckers were also headlining and the club in which the show would take place was  the one and only Kulturbolaget located in downtown Malmoe.

Unfortunately the bands played on the exact same night as the legendary AC/DC stood on stage in Stockholm which the low turnout of people that attended the show could tell. However the amount of people increased the closer to kick off that it got and almost everyone in the club was dressed in Nashville Pussy t-shirts. Originally it was said that Supersuckers were going to open the night but the schedule had been changed so the first band out on stage was Nashville Pussy.

Blaine Cartwright – lead vocals, guitar

Ruyter Suys – lead guitar

Karen Cuda – bass

Jeremy Thompson – drums

The band kicked off the show with “Speed Machine”, “Piece Of Ass” and “High As Hell”. It was full speed ahead from the beginning. Nashville Pussy is a tight and well oiled mean machine that totally ran over the crowd. Cartwright had his cowboy hat on and looked as cool as only he can. On each side of him stood bass player Cuda and guitarist Suys. Suys must be one of the better female guitarists in the world right now; she’s absolutely one of the most energetic ones. She ran around on the stage like a whirlwind and threw herself on the floor and posed with her guitar during the entire show. Luckily more people showed up to see the band but it sure was a very calm and well behaved audience. Everyone stood mostly still and listened to the music and I didn’t experience any pushing or shoving at all.

After the third song Cartwright talked to the audience for the first time and he said that it was nice to be in Malmoe again and then he introduced the next song which was “Good Night For A Heartattack” taken from their previous album GET SOME. Cartwright sounded just as hoarse as on the albums and he completed Suys lead guitar riffs with some steady rhythm guitar lines. The show moved on with highlights as “Drunk Daddy” and “Come On Come On”. Then Cartwright talked a little about the new album and said that the next song on the set list was taken from that album. He introduced “Ain’t Your Business”. Cartwright also asked us if we were familiar with a guy called Danko Jones and everyone screamed yes. Well, he said, I have recorded a duet with Jones on the album and Cartwright said that Jones sang much better than he did. The next song Cartwright said was a story of how things get when you’re doing too much drugs, it’s called “I’m So High” and it was that song that was recorded together with Canadian rocker Danko Jones.

“Hate And Whiskey” followed and because this was the last show in Scandinavia the band wanted the crowd to scream along in the next song, which was a song about yearning to come home, it was “Late Grate USA”. I thought the band sounded heavier and more aggressive live and the songs also went a lot faster that they do on the album. The cover “Nutbush City Limits” followed in which Suys did a guitar solo and Cartwright did some kind of dance on the stage. He also wanted the audience to clap and sing along in the song which the crowd did. “Struttin Cock” and “The Bitched Kicked Me Out” followed and then Cartwright wondered if we had heard the band’s debut album LET THEM EAT PUSSY… everyone in the venue screamed YES and the band kicked off the song “Snake Eyes” taken from their debut album. “Go Motherfucker Go” was another brilliant song that was played which was followed by “Rock’n’roll Outlaw”. Cartwright said that after the show before you go home please come to the merchandise stand and meet us and talk to us. We will sign all things you have and you can buy some t-shirts and stuff. Then they kicked of the evening’s last song “You’re Going Down”. When the last note had faded out all of the members walked off stage.

Unfortunately, the band couldn’t do any encores because they had already gone over their amount of playing time and it was time for Supersuckers to go on stage. I noticed that many, like me, went home after having seen Nashville Pussy. The band did a great show and it was really fun to see these white trash southern rockers again.

The band kept their promise and at the end of the show they were came out to meet and greet with the fans. Not many rock stars do that nowadays and the band should get credit for doing that. I really hope that Nashville Pussy are gonna come back to Malmoe and Sweden soon because this show really made me eager to hear more of them.
