Napalm Death
I’ve never been a big fan of this band, but after reading the book ‘Choosing Death: An Improbable History…’ by Albert Mudrian, I’ve come to recognise how influential Napalm Death really were in the early days of death metal and grindcore. Cited as inspiration and influence from all over the globe, from Miami to Stockholm, the four lads only had to make the short trip from Birmingham to kick some arse, and they left Bloodstock’s well and truly kicked. Barney’s spastic contortions lent some menace and threat of violence (he also went off on several rants about sexism, racism, religion and politics), while Shane Embury pounded his bass with the vigour of someone half his age. Awesome live band, even if the music isn’t to my taste.

I only caught a little of Soilwork before rushing off to interview Matt Barlow, but from what I saw, they may even have topped their performance at Wacken a month and a half ago. The crowd went absolutely bananas, even in the drizzle that threatened to get worse.
