2008, Dine Alone records

Rating: 4/5

Brant Bjork is the drummer for Fu-Manchu as well as a founding member of Kyuss. PUNK ROCK GUILT is his 6th solo release and was recorded 100% Analog giving the listener that warm and classic feel.

This disc creates a mood of mellowness with its bass and drum heavy melodies. It has that late 60’s and early 70’s heavy rock sound to it mixed with a bit of trippy psychedelia. The entire disc however is not a pure flashback to one particular style. On “Dr. Special” there is some real funky bass lines going on, this is carried on in “This Place” as well. The upfront bass and drums remain a constant and the guitar tone is just perfectly balanced to blend in. It has that warmth that is missing in allot of today’s rock music. The prime example of this is in the song “Shocked By The Static” which is the perfect mix of all instruments. Easily this could have come out in ’74 or last week even and been a massive hit. It is a modern classic.

PUNK ROCK GUILT may take a couple spins to get into but once you get into it you’ll love it.
