The Tom Fun Orchestra

You Will Land With A Thud

2008, Company House Records

Rating: 3/5

Traditional music mixed with Rock n’ Roll is the best way to describe Nova Scotia’s The Tom Fun Orchestra in simple terms.

Singer Ian MacDougall’s voice is rough which adds character and uniqueness to the band giving them that old smoky pub band feel. This pub band feel is rampant throughout the disc and you can easily envision yourself in a pub with your mates watching them while sharing a few pints. The music is upbeat and each song tells a little story as most traditional songs do. One of the standouts on the disc is “Rum & Tequila” with its party feel to it.

Overall a fairly decent disc that will grow on you over time if you don’t get it on the first round.
